We also talk about how to handle hate and people trying to impose their opinions on us.We discuss why men often struggle with anger and how it stems from fear of being disrespected or unheard. And how women express anger differently than men. Women often use emotional manipulation, while men tend to use more physical forms of expression. We touch on the importance of living in the moment and how constantly thinking ahead can fuel anxiety, not living. And finally, we dive into why people often push away things they don't think they deserve.
I'm sitting down with my Midwest besties for an episode full of laughs, wild stories, and real talk! We dive into some of our funniest and most embarrassing memories, like how detasseling corn was one of the worst jobs we had growing up and how I got mono from it. We also share our favorite Midwest spots. Then we get into serious topics like relationships. Three of us have been through divorce and one of us broke off an engagement. We talk about why women often stay in relationships they know aren't right for them, how to weigh the risks of staying vs. leaving, and how sometimes we're drawn to “bad boys” thinking we can change them (spoiler alert: we can't). We get real about finding the self-respect to walk away from toxic relationships and how those failed relationships can make it harder to accept love in future ones. Plus, we open up about the fear of starting over and why it can be so scary to move on.
I'm joined by Lauren Fortney, a licensed counselor and trauma specialist. We discuss how many women struggle with anxiety and negative self-talk, and Lauren shares ways to shift these patterns, emphasizing the importance of self-kindness. Despite these challenges, she kept pushing forward, knowing that meeting the right people could help her succeed especially since there were no women mentors to guide her. She shares how men would often try to set up meetings with her in their hotel rooms, and recalls a "Pretty Woman"-style story with no strings attached. Now, I've learned to hold my self-worth high, not worry about others' opinions, and demand the respect I deserve. I'm sharing the tips that helped me grow my self-esteem and transform my life.
