Bryan Kohberger's defense attorney, Anne Taylor, accused the FBI of interfering with defense witness Gabriella Vargas, a genetic-genealogy expert who had questioned aspects of the investigative genetic genealogy used to identify Kohberger. Taylor told the court that two FBI agents had visited Vargas at her home and questioned her about her testimony after she appeared for the defense. Taylor argued that the encounter had intimidated the witness and potentially undermined Kohberger's due-process rights by placing federal pressure on someone assisting his legal team.Latah County prosecutor Bill Thompson disputed the suggestion that the FBI had improperly targeted Vargas. He said investigators had contacted her because questions had emerged about whether her testimony accurately reflected her expertise and opinions, characterizing the interview as a legitimate investigative step rather than witness tampering.
