Nathalie launched the Peruvians of USA podcast on July 28, 2020 with the goal to share the diversity of the Peruvian immigrant experience in the U.S., and explore what it means to be Peruvian in another country. She wants the podcast to serve as a collection of memories - as many of us are first-generation immigrants. Episodes are released every other week and the interviews are conducted in español, English, or Spanglish. The stories shared are deeply personal and each gives a new meaning to what it means to be a Peruvian immigrant. Nathalie hopes the audience listens with an open mind and heart. YERRRR! Welcome back to a new episode of Oye Mi Gente! Podcast. This week, we’re going to be doing things a little different. A while back, I had a discussion with my mom about our own immigration story and what led us to leave everything and everyone behind for a better life. Initially, this was supposed to be put out last year, but the more I listened to the recording, the More overprotective I became, not just of my mom but of my country and my story as well. Which made me think about our own generational traumas, and how it affects the way we speak about our stories. Living with Bi-Polar 2: The Myths & Misconceptions of Bipolar Disorder

YERRRR! Last week’s Episode was all about my struggles living with Bipolar 2 disorder. On this week’s episode, I’ll be busting all the myths and misconceptions about Bipolar disorder. The reason I’m so passionate talking about this subject is because of the negativity that surrounds mental health disorder. What the media displays, the music we listen to, the movies we watch, the conversations we have. We’re so quick to call someone crazy and bipolar when they don't display the characteristics society has placed on us. We take these mental disorders and use them to belittle and insult. This is why it took me so long to talk about it and how it affects my way of life. But I’m not scared anymore. YERRRR! Welcome back to the 4th season Of Oye Mi Gente! Podcast Thank you so much for sticking with us through another season. This week's episode is super personal to me.  Join me as I have this heart to heart talk with myself while at the sametime try to debunk a whole bunch of myths and misconceptions about people living with Bipolar Disorder.  Bipolar disorder is a neurobiological brain disorder that affects approximately 2.3 million Americans today, or almost 1 percent of the population. Although bipolar disorder usually begins in adolescence or early adulthood, it can sometimes start in early childhood or as late as age 40 or 50. Bipolar II is similar to Bipolar I disorder, with moods cycling between high and low over time. However, in bipolar II disorder, the "up" moods never reach full-blown mania. The less-intense elevated moods in bipolar II disorder are called hypomanic episodes, or hypomania. It is not as extreme as a manic period. A person affected by bipolar II disorder has had at least one hypomanic episode in his or her life. Most people with bipolar II disorder suffer more often from episodes of depression. This is where the term "manic depression" comes from. Bianca Martinez is an extremely proud two-spirit, queer, gender nonconforming Boricua warrior, mental health advocate and self proclaimed bruja by way of New York. Bianca is a co-producer of a new media platform called eres.you and the host of its video podcast eres.Tea Talks. A creative, educator, facilitator and activist, Bianca has spent much of their years working with youth and using their online presence to share resources and intimate stories about their own experiences battling mental illness. A poet by design, Bianca is a lover of all things nature and believes beauty can be found in the darkest of corners. Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a condition characterized by difficulties regulating emotion. This means that people who experience BPD feel emotions intensely and for extended periods of time, and it is harder for them to return to a stable baseline after an emotionally triggering event. The cause of borderline personality disorder isn't well understood. Diagnosis is made based on symptoms. Treatments include talk therapy or, in some cases, medications.  It’s estimated that 1.4% of the adult U.S. population experiences BPD. Nearly 75% of people diagnosed with BPD are women. Recent research suggests that men may be equally affected by BPD, but are commonly misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, PTSD or depression.  Borderline personality disorder (BPD) manifests in many different ways, but for the purposes of diagnosis, mental health professionals group the symptoms into nine major categories. In order to be diagnosed with BPD, you must show signs of at least five of these symptoms. Furthermore, the symptoms must be long-standing (usually beginning in adolescence) and impact many areas of your life. Symptoms of BPD include: Fear of abandonment.  Unstable relationships.  Unclear or shifting self-image.  Impulsive, self-destructive behaviors. Self-harm.  Extreme emotional swings.  Chronic feelings of emptiness.  Explosive anger.  Feeling suspicious or out of touch with reality.

Her clothing, paintings, photography, film, music and sculpture are reflective of the spiritual and symbolic artistry of ancient Indigenous warrior masks that gives the viewer or wearer strength and/or a grounded sense of self.  The colors she creates in her paintings & clothing comes from her two thousand year old ancestral practice and/or methodology of crusting the color formation of rocks combined with a binder to connect and create a connection with the essence of the people that surround her during the moment of creation. PeruvianDurags’ believes that learning and teaching is fluid and thereby in constant flux.  As a result, she can often be found teaching battered men & women “calm” through art therapy, and impromptu live art performances. On today's episode we start our discussion on Immigration with what happen to the Atlanta based rapper 21 Savage. After his arrest at the hands on ICE, the rapper faces a complex and punitive series of challenges.  Today, our immigration system is broken, and everybody knows it. Families who enter our country the right way and play by the rules watch others flout the rules. Business owners who offer their workers good wages benefits see the competition exploit undocumented immigrants by paying them far less. All of us take offense to anyone who reaps the rewards of living in America without taking on the responsibilities of living in America. And undocumented immigrants who desperately want to embrace those responsibilities see little option but to remain in the shadows, or risk their families being torn apart. Deportation can happen to anyone, rather they're celebrities or not. Migrating into the US is definitely not a easy affordable task.
