Alix discusses how she experienced abuse during her childhood and how she was also bullied at school. Alix was 12 years old when she was diagnosed with Autism. Alix explains in detail her sensory overload struggles which could lead to a strong negative reaction, but explains she has become more tolerant to it as she has got older. Alix also discusses her previous experience with therapy and how she found this difficult as she began to feel vulnerable again.     Dr. Becky Spelman talks with Ryan Stevens also known on social media as 'Tourette Lad Official' and 'The Boy who Tics'. Ryan is known to have one of the most extreme cases of Tourettes in the UK. Ryan's diagnosis is now known as 'Severe, complex, abnormal Tourettes syndrome', Ryan explains his Tourette's began as a sore throat and severe headaches when he was 14 years old , Ryan was officially diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome when he was 21 years old by a neurologist. Dr. Becky discusses with Ryan his early life experiences and when he first noticed the symptoms begin. Ryan also explains his experiences with bullying and strangers making fun of his condition, which has lead to him also experiencing social anxiety because of this. Ryan describes his tics as uncontrollable and explains his treatment journey. Ryan is about to undergo Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with a Neuropsychologist, which helps individuals practice strategies to delay the tics as much as possible, in order to decrease the tics overtime. Ryan also suffers from Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) after his Tic Attacks, which leads to Ryan having difficulty walking. As well as this, Ryan also suffers from Dissociation Identity Disorder (DID). Jamie was training to become a pilot in America when his plane engine caught fire during a training flight, the fire reached the cockpit and Jamie managed to get the aircraft to a lower level and get himself onto the wing of the plane and jump to save his own life. Jamie officially states that he 63% third degree burns as well as facial trauma and internal injuries from secondary impact. Jamie was hospitalised in Florida and placed into a drug induced coma. Jamie then returned to the UK once stable to continue his treatment with the NHS at multiple burns units and specialists within hospitals. After more than 60 operations to recover from his very serious physical injuries, Jamie discusses the psychological impact of the accident.Jamie explains that he knew instantly the level of trauma he has just faced, and has fully conscious memories of the incident itself. Jamie explains for the first year, he was dealing with the trauma day by day and explained he was dealing with it well. Jamie then became depressed and was offered Psychological help which Jamie initially didn't believe he needed but explains he found this process very insightful. Jamie explains his depression was massively impacting his motivation to achieve smalls goals such as; learning to walk again and writing. Since Jamie's incident and overcoming his injuries he has retrained as a pilot, run marathons, climbed mountains and much more. Euthanasia is only legal in some countries and these laws tend to vary, in the UK Euthanasia is illegal and considered murder or manslaughter and carries the maximum penalty of life imprisonment, however, the act of ending your own life (suicide) is not considered illegal in the UK. Today Dr. Becky Spelman talks to Alex Pandolfo and Sara Starkey who both have different experiences with assisted suicide. Alex is 66 years old and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease 6 years ago. Alex has made the huge decision to travel to Switzerland to end his life when he feels the time is right and to avoid major suffering from his terminal illness. Alex has been a longterm supporter of Euthanasia and believes for him it is the right decision to avoid suffering or pain. Sara Starkey travelled to Switzerland with her husband to end his life after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Sara discusses her husband's difficult decision- making process to end his life through assisted death. Sara is now a campaigner and supporter for Euthanasia, as she explains she has not had to watch someone she loves deteriorate or suffer in pain.

Laura has grown up and spent her childhood in Lebanon, Beirut. Although she currently lives in London and is due to start her Doctorate training in Clinical Psychology in London she still often visits Beirut to visit her family and friends. Laura explains she felt the first explosion but she thought it was an earthquake, and then it passed, but then the second explosion happened which had more of a detrimental impact. Laura explained the glass windows shattered over her as she was sat on her sofa, and she started to question 'am I alive right now?', Laura said she froze at the time and was screaming and crying but dissociated from the events at the time. Laura explained the event like a 'war zone'.Laura encourages her friends and family to talk about the traumatic event, due to Laura's Psychological understanding and background she understood the importance of opening up about the event and making sense of what happened. Becky goes onto discuss how her and her ex- husband met through her own theatre school in Northamptonshire. Becky describes her ex- husband at the beginning of their relationship as "the knight in shining armer" and was ticking all the boxes for her. Becky describes their decision to get married as very quick and explains she often made decisions in their relationship with her heart over her head. Four days before their wedding Becky found out she was pregnant although her ex- husband had been told he was unable to have children. Things started to take a turn in their relationship the day after they got married and during their wedding reception. Becky goes onto explain the red flags she ignored at the time and would question herself and thought she was being paranoid. Her ex- husband would start to show controlling behaviours in relation to Becky's family and the theatre school, and became verbally abusive. After Becky gave birth to her twins, things started to take a more dramatic turn and he physically attacked Becky, he was convicted of GBH. Becky explains instances where he would chase her with a knife in his hand. Becky says she became emotionally numb. Kevin was diagnosed with epilepsy and put onto medication to manage this, however, this medication had unknowingly suppressed Kevins bipolar disorder and when he was taken offer this medication it lead to his first mental breakdown at the age of 17 years old where he experienced his first paranoia episode. Kevin explains his entire experience the day he travelled to the golden gate bridge in San Francisco to make his life ending jump. He explains he was hearing voices in his head telling him to 'end his life'. Kevin survived the fall and was saved from drowning by the coast guards. Kevin explains his regret the moment he made that jump from the bridge, but describes his survival as a miracle. Jue was told by doctors she was extremely lucky to be alive, however post- accident Jue suffered from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)- an aggressive, relentless and high ranking pain condition. After 12 months of suffering, Jue developed sepsis and immediately agreed to amputation of her arm below the elbow.Jue went from hating herself and having no self worth as a result of her amputation to having tremendous self compassion which has allowed her to help others. On today’s episode Dr. Becky interviews Alex Skeel domestic abuse survivor whose near-fatal abuse at the hands of his girlfriend, Jordan attracted widespread media coverage due to the extreme nature of the abuse. Alex’s girlfriend controlled, beat, stabbed, starved and tortured him, leaving him with severed tendons and burns. She also prevented him from receiving medical treatment for injuries she inflicted. When Alex was finally removed from the situation doctors told him that he had been 10 days from dying because he’d been denied food for so long and his injuries were so bad. Alex's ex girlfriend is now serving 7 and a half years in prison. This is a candid conversation between Dr. Becky and Alex, it’s not a therapy session but they talk about the psychological impact of the events Alex has experienced.
