La France est le premier pays consommateur de whisky ! Avec le rhum, ce sont les deux spiritueux les plus appréciés des Français, les boissons anisées arrivant en troisième position. Toutefois, derrière chaque verre qui se lève, il y a des enjeux sanitaires et écologiques que l'on ne peut pas négliger. Une étude d'Ipsos sortie en 2022 montre qu'il y a une tendance à consommer “moins mais mieux”. Les premiers freins à la consommation qui ressortent sont le goût et le prix. Les facteurs sanitaires et environnementaux n'apparaissent donc pas comme les plus préoccupants. Pourtant, l'alcool est la deuxième cause de mortalité prématurée en France, et une des premières causes d'hospitalisation. D'un point de vue environnemental, l'étude a mis en avant le fait que les principales attentes des consommateurs à l'égard des entreprises productrices étaient relatives à la réduction du gaspillage et des déchets. Pourtant, la production de spiritueux soulève de nombreuses autres questions, au niveau du transport par exemple, de la grande quantité d'eau nécessaire à la production, de l'usage de pesticides...
