Welcome back to the NSG Indie Game Roundup, our monthly series featuring indie games news, plus game demos and new release discussions. We may be almost through summer, but the gaming news continues to flow, for better or worse. We dig into some big indie game news stories from the past month, plus a little internet discourse, as a treat. As usual, we also have a ton of awesome game demos and new releases to tell you about! Make sure you stay through the end of the roundup because we have a very special bonus segment at the end, where we got to chat with our dear friends Cognitive Clips and Cecilie about this year's Games for Change Festival. They shared some great highlights from this year's event, some of which you can watch at the links in the show notes. Also, huge thanks to our newest Patreon supporters! Cecilie and Jesper Conrad describe how illness, travel, and questioning convention led their family from a more or less traditional path in Denmark—through a Freinet-inspired free school—to a fully unschooled, nomadic life. They explain how unschooling developed through practical choices, legal frameworks, and value-based reflection rather than ideology.

In a time when Jewish trauma is being weaponized and used to justify the Israeli genocide against Palestinians, the book An Anti-Zionist Path to Embodied Jewish Healing: Somatic Practices to Heal Historical Wounds, Unlearn Oppression, and Create a Liberated World to Come presents a liberatory model for Jewish healing firmly rooted in Jewish spiritual values. In this book based conversation the panel discusses the intersection of healing and activism that can make our organizing movements more healing and our healing more political to strengthen our collective work for a free Palestine and a Jewishness beyond Zionism. Over the last year and a half, many of us activists and organizers have felt hopeless, despairing, and angry that we have not been able to stop this genocidal violence being carried out in our names. Sometimes we take these feelings out on each other by being overly critical and unkind, which leads to fractures inside our movements. At this time of rising fascism when the Trump administration is exploiting the fractures on the Left to create division, we can incorporate body-based healing to strengthen our collective power that moves us closer to a liberated world and a free Palestine. Wendy Elisheva Somerson (Wes) is a queer non-binary, disabled, cat- loving Ashkenazi Jewish somatic healer, writer, activist, and visual artist residing on Duwamish and Coast Salish land. One of the founders of the Seattle chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace, they have been active in Palestinian solidarity work for more than two decades. As a politicized healer, Wes works at the intersection of personal and collective healing with individuals, groups, and organizations. They are the creator and facilitator of Ruach, an ongoing anti-Zionist, body-based Jewish healing group. Cecilie Surasky is the Director of Communications and Narrative at the Othering & Belonging Institute (OBI) at UC Berkeley, a global research and advocacy organization focused on understanding the structures of exclusion and building a world where all people belong. Cecilie's career spans decades of mobilizing politically marginalized communities, and she's proud of her role in building a co-liberation movement as the founding communications and later deputy director of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP). She draws from her own family's journey with traumatic grief, belonging and resilience. Penny Rosenwasser, Ph.D., is a lifelong heartfelt rabble-rouser for justice. A queer/lesbian white Jewish intersectional feminist, Penny is author of the award-winning Hope into Practice, Jewish women choosing justice despite our fears. She was a founding Board member and early leader of Jewish Voice for Peace, co-teaches an Antisemitism/Anti-Arabism class with a Palestinian colleague at City College of San Francisco, and serves on the Advisory Council of the Center for Jewish Nonviolence. An educator, public speaker, fundraiser and facilitator, Penny organized events for the Middle East Children's Alliance for 32 years and is a racial justice leader at Kehilla synagogue. Send us a textWhat if our traditional education system is fundamentally misaligned with how humans naturally learn? Jesper and Cecilie Conrad continue their conversation with Jamie Rumble, exploring the philosophy and practice of unschooling within a nomadic lifestyle.Jamie shares how his background, including influences from Paulo Freire and the concept of eco-pedagogy, shapes his approach to teaching and learning. The discussion challenges the traditional structure of schooling, contrasting prescribed curricula with the emergent, curiosity-driven learning that happens in real life. Cecilie and Jesper explain why their family chooses not to worry about global crises like climate change and instead focus on adaptability, freedom, and the ability to hold discomfort and uncertainty. They describe how living on the road exposes their children to different cultures and environments, building emotional intelligence and cultural humility. The episode examines the pitfalls of seeking “teachable moments” and questions the idea that adults should determine what children need to learn.Reflection, dialogue, and presence are highlighted as essential elements of education. The conversation closes with a discussion of planetary citizenship, beauty, and the importance of navigating both challenges and joys with intention and love.
Send us a textWe got an email from Jamie Rumble... "I'm a Master of Education student at Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia, Canada. For my thesis, I'm researching how digital nomads are adapting their lifestyles in response to climate change, and what insights their experiences might offer for future education and planetary citizenship." We thought it could be an interesting talk and said yes, given that we could use the recording for our podcast. In this episode, we, Cecilie and Jesper Conrad, sit down with researcher Jamie Rumble to discuss our seven years as a nomadic family. We explain why we sold our house and chose to travel full-time with our three kids and two dogs, sharing what freedom really means to us.We delve into the details of world schooling, explaining why we prioritise values, ethics, and adaptability over traditional school subjects. We talk about building and maintaining community while always on the move, and why we often say that “the adventure is the people.” We challenge the Instagram version of digital nomadism and share the practical realities of this life, from constant planning to the sacrifices involved. We also discuss privilege and the reasons we chose not to follow the conventional school system. This episode offers a glimpse into what it's like to live as a nomadic family and the deliberate choices we make about engaging with the world.

Send us a textWhen Jack Stewart turned off the internet, he discovered that digital connection often acts as a “social appetite suppressant”—satisfying on the surface, but not deeply nourishing. In this conversation, Jack explains how removing online distractions led him to seek out in-person connection, from literally knocking on neighbors' doors to organizing his own book and writing salons. We discuss the qualitative difference between digital admirers and real friends, and why meaningful conversations rarely happen through casual online chat. Jack outlines how he created formal spaces—book clubs, writing groups, salons—to foster intellectual depth and genuine community. The discussion moves to Jack's research on “common pool resources,” and the practical lessons from Nobel Prize winner Eleanor Ostrom's work on how communities can successfully govern shared spaces. We explore what makes a community sustainable, including trust, collective rule-making, and how conflict is resolved without defaulting to authority or privatization.Cecilie and Jesper share their own experiences with offline community-building and the Scandinavian tradition of “hygge” as an egalitarian way of sharing space. The episode finishes with a reflection on what it really takes to build trust, give comfort, and create belonging in a world shaped by digital isolation.
Cecilie nægter at tømme skraldespanden. Medvirkende: Julia Lahme & Cecilie Nielsen. Ekspert: Jytte Vikkelsøe. Vært: Sebastian Lynggaard. Producer: Cæcilie Helena Denman-Gretoft. Musik: "Hold up" Beyonce Redaktør: Andreas Jeppesen.

In this SAND Community Gathering (January 2025), journalist Naomi Klein and trauma expert Dr. Gabor Maté explored the complex intersection of collective trauma, political power, and memory in a discussion moderated by Cecilie Surasky. Drawing from Naomi's recent analysis of how trauma has been weaponized in current conflicts, and Gabor's deep understanding of trauma's psychological impacts, their conversation examined how media narratives and political rhetoric weaponize fear and trauma to gain public support for military and political crimes. The discussion addressed the troubling speed at which the Oct 7 Jewish trauma is now converted into a spectacle through virtual reality experiences, museum exhibitions, and immersive memorials, while questioning who gets to control these narratives and to what end. Together, they explored alternatives for remembering that might lead toward healing rather than perpetuating cycles of violence. We hear from several Community Gathering audience members with their questions in the second half of the episode. Gabor Maté, M.D. is a specialist on trauma, addiction, stress and childhood development. After 20 years of family practice and palliative care experience, Dr. Maté worked for over a decade in Vancouver's Downtown East Side with patients challenged by drug addiction and mental illness. For his groundbreaking medical work and writing he has been awarded the Order of Canada, his country's highest civilian distinction, and the Civic Merit Award from his hometown, Vancouver. Gabor is also the creator of a psychotherapeutic approach, Compassionate Inquiry, now studied by thousands of therapists, physicians, counselors, and others in over 80 countries. Naomi Klein is an award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author. She is a columnist with The Guardian. In 2018 she was named the inaugural Gloria Steinem Endowed Chair at Rutgers University and is now Honorary Professor of Media and Climate at Rutgers. In September 2021 she joined the University of British Columbia as UBC Professor of Climate Justice (tenured) and co-director of the Centre for Climate Justice. Cecilie Surasky is the Director of Communications and Narrative at the Othering & Belonging Institute (OBI), where she leads an incredible team focused on integrating strategic communications and narrative strategies. With a background in Religious Studies and Semiotics, Cecilie views all narratives as sacred, and believes that leaders, for better or worse, often serve as modern-day high priests. As former deputy director of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) she led impactful campaigns aimed at building a co-liberation movement and garnering support for Palestinian human rights.
