My upcoming golf journey in my 50's, where my winter 2024 index is around 5.0 and my goal is to get to scratch handicap. For once in my golfing life, I'm not going to rely on hope to improve my game. I will introduce my improvement strategies, ranging from fitness & nutrition to mental game to practice plans (offseason and in-season).
My season has started, and it's nowhere like the comfortable simulator. I am struggling to incorporate my swing changes into real action and I'm still getting used to some new clubs. To top it off, I'm preparing for my first non-club tournament ever and a little over a week. I'm going to do a deep dive into the rounds of Masters Legends Fred Couples and Bernhard Langer (there's plenty of Rory content out there). We will delve into how these 65+ year olds tackled a 7500+ yard course and nearly made the cut. Then, we will see how you can use this information to improve your golf game.I used datagolf.com, Arccos web searches, Masters app, and the Decade app for the data discussed.Drop me a line and let's talk golf!Music credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch
I'm excited to share my journey over the off-season to gain clubhead speed across the bag without speed training. This involves mobility, strength, and tempo. I'll share the programs and apps that I used. I can't wait until the season starts and I can start playing from the tips for the first time ever!Music credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch
In this short episode, we'll discuss what is great about winter simulator play and where you should be cautious when thinking about translating performance to the course.Music credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch

This is a recap of the long weekend golf in Calgary, which was met with extreme wind, cold, and even snow. With these conditions came some pretty bad back pain. The second part is related to handicap indices by age, and pondering what happens in the 50's to cause the decline in top performance numbers. Then, we will start talking about how to combat some of these issues with muscle loss.Music credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://longevity.stanford.edu/lifestyle/2023/04/11/stop-the-clock-the-shocking-truth-about-age-related-muscle-loss-and-steps-to-fight-back/https://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch

After a horrible opening weekend of golf, it was time to re-group and use the statistics to direct my practice sessions. It paid off, as my 4 scores thusfar have been progressively getting better. With more focus on the golf and less on collecting accurate statistics, my golf scores improved.Bonus: check out the Tiger 5 explanation and comparison near the end.Music credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch
7 months of preparation - nutrition, fitness, simulator time, and mental game. How often do you watch golf on TV, and no matter how far they hit from, they are knocking it to 3 feet. Well, these are the best shots of the best players having their best weeks.I will add a bit of realism to the equation, where I will talk about my shot distribution and then the average PGA tour pro, as I realize that I'm not really that bad. Managing expectations will be the key to remain calm throughout the round, which will hopefully lead to better decision making and lower scores. Please visit my YouTube channel for the visuals discussed in the episode.https://youtu.be/Le9RzGUHscsMusic credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch
Now that the Masters Sunday winner is a foregone conclusion, it's time to get serious about my own game. What makes Scottie special - he has all the skill and doesn't make as many glaring mistakes as his competitors. That's what I want to strive towards. This episode talks to the specific areas of the practice plan with the very limited amount of time that I have to practice. By focusing on my weakest areas, I will devise specific plans to improve upon them. NOW, the moment you've been waiting for - GOLF!I will compare my statistics to the massive database of scratch handicaps, and what 5 handicaps improved upon to get to scratch. This episode points to where I feel that each of those valuable 5 strokes will come from, and future episodes will talk to the HOW!Please subscribe to my YouTube channel in the bio, as I will be putting more detailed information there.Music credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch

The food that we put in our bodies is likely the most important factor in health, and therefore body function. When trying to improve in golf, millimeters of club face matter, and hence any nagging inflammation from improper food intake will impact on-course performance.Join me as I introduce some concepts of what to eat, when to eat, and what to get tested for to maintain your golf goals well past 50.Music credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch
Provide a brief introduction to myself, Paul Nayyar. When did I start this silly sport? What did I do to get better in the past (hint: not much)? What facets am I looking to improve to shave 5 shots off of my index this year?Future episodes will highlight my personal plan and, once the season starts in cold Canada, provide insights into my progress.Music credit: Time Slips By - Go By Ocean_Ryan McCaffreyhttps://www.youtube.com/@Seniortoscratch-------https://www.instagram.com/senior_to_scratch/#-------https://twitter.com/seniortoscratch
