Sermon Title: "God's Faithfulness Through Our Failures: Lessons from Abram's Journey" I. Introduction: Learning from Abram's Journey A. Brief Recap of Genesis 12: Abram's failure to trust God during the famine and his decision to go to Egypt. Highlight the consequences of relying on his own understanding rather than God's guidance. Emphasize how these actions led to personal compromise and family tension. B. Transition to Genesis 13: Despite Abram's failures, God remains faithful. God's grace is not thwarted by human error; He continues His plan of redemption. II. Choosing Faith over Fear (Genesis 13:1-4) A. Returning to the Place of Worship: After leaving Egypt, Abram returns to Bethel, where he had previously built an altar. Discuss the significance of “returning” and how it symbolizes repentance and realignment with God's will. B. Worship as a Response to God's Deliverance: God delivers Abram and Sarai from Egypt, and Abram's response is worship. The proper response to God's mercy and grace is worship and gratitude, not guilt or shame. III. The Test of Generosity and Trust (Genesis 13:5-13) A. Conflict Between Abram and Lot: The land cannot support both Abram's and Lot's herds, leading to tension. Rather than escalate the conflict, Abram offers Lot the first choice of land. B. Lot's Worldly Decision: Lot chooses the fertile plains of Jordan, which are near the sinful city of Sodom. Discuss how Lot's decision reflects worldly desires and how it foreshadows future trouble. C. Abram's Faith in God's Provision: Abram's willingness to let Lot choose first shows his growing faith in God's promises. Abram trusts that God will provide, no matter the outcome. IV. God's Reaffirmation of His Promise (Genesis 13:14-18) A. God's Assurance After Separation from Lot: God reaffirms His promise to Abram after he parts ways with Lot. God invites Abram to “look in every direction” and promises him descendants as numerous as the dust of the earth. B. Building Another Altar: Abram's response to God's reaffirmation is worship once again—he builds another altar. Emphasize the pattern of worship in Abram's life and how it reflects a heart aligned with God. V. Application: Trusting in God's Faithfulness Despite Our Failures A. Return to God After Failure: Like Abram, we often fail in trusting God, but He is always ready to welcome us back when we repent. Returning to where we last encountered God's presence and favor is crucial. B. Choose Faith Over Selfish Gain: Lot's choice represents a focus on temporary, worldly gain, whereas Abram's choice reflects eternal values. Encourage the congregation to choose God's path, even if it seems less favorable by worldly standards. C. Rejoice in God's Unchanging Faithfulness: God's faithfulness to Abram, despite his missteps, should remind us of God's unwavering commitment to His promises. Reference Philippians 1:6 and C.H. Spurgeon's quote on God's continuous work in our lives. VI. Conclusion: God's Faithfulness and Our Response A. God's Goodness in the Midst of Our Failures: Even when we fail, God's goodness remains. He does not abandon His children but works all things for His glory. B. Call to Action: Repent of areas where we have tried to “help” God by taking matters into our own hands. Trust in His timing and His promises, just as Abram learned to do. C. Encouragement and Hope: God's plans are not thwarted by our failures. Walk confidently, knowing that He who began a good work in you will see it through to completion.

I try to go through some of the highlights of the week-long investigation that I just returned from, but keep in mind the details and my memory on some things is a bit blurry as I got into Ohio at 3:15am today. Just know that this trip did not disappoint and many incredible things happened, many of which we captured and many which we did not. It had everything: ghosts, creatures, lights, and lots of cinnamon rolls. www.ryansingercomedy.comwww.patreon.com/ryansinger@rysing@ryansingecomedy - TikTok

Episode 351: Building Multi-Million Dollar Businesses with Skip Thaler, Part IV Episode Notes In our three-part podcast series, Skip Thaler generously shared what it took for him and his family to build several multi-million-dollar businesses. Today you will learn the confluence of events that led to Skip's decision to sell his 25-rental properties. The properties he and Jill worked so hard to acquire, fix up, and rent out. You will find out how our prior podcast conversations played a part in selling his last 7-bundled properties to one buyer. Skip dives into how he made the decision and how it affected his wife, Jill, and their three adult-children: Tim, George, and Sara. You will also hear Skip's concerns for future landlords with rental properties in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. There are long-term consequences to the social unrest and violence after George Floyd's murder and a Renter Protection Ordinance passed by the Minneapolis City Council that went into effect on June 1, 2020. Plus, I found new rules for screening renters in effect for 2023. Read it HERE. In 2021, another life-changing decision was made. Skip and Jill moved to Bonita Springs, Florida. Find out why moving from Lakeville, Minnesota to Florida made sense. A Brief Recap of Skip's Multi-Million Dollar Businesses Skip's first job out of school was in sales with IBM. He left there to start as a manufacturer representative; a business selling Fleetwood tires. That led to the most successful Fleetwood Franchise in the United States. Skip created a brokerage business to sell discontinued and blemished tires that grew into $13M in yearly sales. This financial success positioned him to merge his company with Tires Plus, combining the sales volume to $25M. At Tires Plus, Skip worked to help grow the business to $50M, selling his ownership in 1991 to his two business partners. Semi-retirement allowed Skip to pursue his love of sailing and found an international tire wholesale business, Intercontinental Marketing Corporation (IMC), while upholding his 5-year United States non-compete agreement. IMC is the birthplace of three pledges Skip made to himself. No more hiring of W-2 employees. IMC will not carry accounts receivable. He will not own inventory. Keeping faithful to his three promises, Skip prepared his company for George, his son, to join him in 1998 to learn the tire trading business. They diversified into motorcycle tires and used truck tires (casings) for retreaders. That business generated more than $10M in sales. Uniquely positioned in the marketplace, they kept their expenses under 8% of their gross profit, so 92 cents out of every dollar went to the bottom line. In 2012, his other son, Tim, joined the business as Skip transitioned into a new business. The business of acquiring brownstone apartment buildings in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Skip acquired 25 buildings with more than 400 apartment units. In our third podcast conversation, we learned that in December 2019, Skip purchased his 25th and last acquisition, an 8-unit complex Brownstone apartment building built in 1890 by the Cathedral in St. Paul, Minnesota. Skip enjoyed 20+ years of renovating and restoring these 100-year-old apartment complexes making each complex a standout in the neighborhood. He describes himself as the opposite of a slum lord investing to make everything appealing, from the curbside to each building's inside. Skip's attention to detail was apparent with the purchase of his 25th property, too. Original photographs from the late 1800s of the Brownstone properties were adorned in the hallways and entryways, giving a personalized touch. Beautifully landscaped yards with Mum-filled planters outside the buildings in the fall changed seasonally to make tenants feel good. New vintage lightwork, 100% wool carpets, restoring the house, and preserving past woodwork are a few examples of Skip's effort for each tenant to feel they have a nice place to live in.

The excitement that boils up inside of when the notification hits that a pair of shoes is being delivered, and then the pure joy that washes over me when my phone dings that the shoes are here and the Ring goes off that they have been delivered. Man, it is like Christmas! I have not even the open shoes and…oh new the smell of new Kicks!! I tear open the box. I slowly peek in to see how Jordan and the Team have designed the shoebox: is it a classic OG style, white, something new? Then I carefully open and look to see which tissue paper has been chosen to protect my beauties as I am engulfed by the only smell that beats new car smell: New Kick! I study every angle of the shoe and pour over the details. As the euphoria is at an all time high, I know yet again that the photos and videos online NEVER did the Js justice!Where the hell am I going with this? Do you know your worth?Robin Wilson, Founder of SVP Agency and all around kick ass boss babe, posted this the other day and wanted to not only reiterate it, but scream it: “Stop low balling your business to satisfy cheap people. They pay full price for Jordan's and Michael Kors they can pay you too.” As someone who buys those Js, yes!!Oddly enough, I had the exact same conversation with another friend about a week prior on the same topic. Why are so many of us lowering to accommodate others, especially when companies are making record profits. You know if you are worth it, so ask for it. Lowering your cost, means you are lowering the value of you and your worth. Stop it. Whether it is Nike/Jordan raising the price of their shoes, chicken that is double, the photographer that costs more, everything costs more, those that are damn good at what they do will cost more.Follow Jarrod Kilway on LinkedIn: https://bit.ly/3HScyUwConnect with BZ Consultants Group: https://qrco.de/bcqqFo0:00 Start2:54 Jarrod Kilway Episode Recap: My Takeaways3:24 First Takeaway: Keep Growing, Learning Everyday, & Never Stay Stagnant3:49 Second Takeaway: The Present and Future of EVs4:14 Third Takeaway: Not Thinking Only For Here and Now - Think About Future5:44 Brief Recap of Nike Mishap and How I Benefited5:58 Do We Know Our Worth? Besides the two titanic games with Gonzaga beating UCLA and Duke edging out the Bulldogs in a possible Final Four preview, there were some other noteworthy games during Thanksgiving weekend. Dayton stunning Kansas at the buzzer was a fun game, and how Baylor won in the Bahamas spoke volumes. That and a special anniversary took place on Sunday in this short podcast. Show Notes [0:01:01] Episode Summary & Intro Machoman, Koolaid Man, or Wolfman Jack? [0:02:04] Communication Round 2 Brief Recap of the Last Episode Real Time Communication vs Asynchronous We started collocated, in-office and transitioned to remote work. Benefits of Synchronous Communication While is it so alluring to maintain? Let's be honest, real time communication is easier. But is it better? There's an Idea That Moving Fast is Superior to Being Methodical & Intentional That idea is wrong, and here's why. Fast often equals “move quickly...and break things”. Communicating Asynchronously is Something You Have to Learn A skill like any other. We Often Confuse Activity with Progress The truth is, you can be active but not get anything done. Asynchronous Communication Tends to be More Thoughtful, More Crafted Be reading something, you get to sit down and really process communication. [0:10:58] Asynchronous Communication as a Tool to Level the Playing Field How asynchronous communication benefits those who process communication atypically: neuro divergence, or otherwise on the spectrum. Not a speed typist? Asynchronous communication is a massive boon. Here's why. [0:13:33] How Can We Set Guardrails & Best Practices for Asynchronous Expectations? It takes practice. Not just writing but reading asynchronously. It requires mutual respect. There should be shared understanding on a general timeframe of when you should hear a response. But sometimes just commenting that you're still processing the last response and formulating your answer is key. Silence is seen as approval, for better and worse. [0:17:20] There is a Cost to Real TIme A one hour real time conversation isn't “just a hour”, it's four hours of business time taken. When you move it asynchronous, it doesn't take a hour of everyone's time; it's more thoughtful, and can allow those involved to come to solutions even quicker with little practice and training. Real time is expensive. We're not saying you should never have real time conversations. We are saying you should make sure they're worth it. You want to combat the “this meeting could have been an email” notion. [0:19:01] Should we be All Asynchronous All the Time? The cost of asynchronous is a breakdown in real human connection. Left unchecked, this leads to work becoming soulless and transactional. Connection is a fundamental piece. It's not one or the other. It's about identifying the proper communication method for a given topic, task, idea, etc. It's not ‘either or', it's ‘yes and'. There is something to be said for asynchronous communication making it too easy not to intentionally document things. This is less than great. Be mindful of what needs to be documented. [0:22:55] Additional Challenges Real time communication has the potential to steal the party's best time to get ‘deep work' done. Ask your team members when their preferred times to do deep work is, and schedule meetings around this time, not during it. Don't steal productive time from team members...unless the meeting is innately conducive to (and dependent on) their role specific productivity. [0:26:59] Be Thoughtful About Your Communication Consider the following for your meetings and communication in general: What is the best way to go about this particular communication? (Synchronous or asynchronous?) What's the best time? What is the subject matter? What do we need to get out of it? Who needs to be here and why? Communication is the hardest thing to do correctly and effectively in your business. But it's also the most important thing to figure out today. Next Time on AIB How to Do it All Better!

Knights Templar have a romanticized and exotic imagery attached to them. But reality is different from the lore that surrounds them. Annie Sargent and Elyse Rivin talk about it in this episode of the podcast. The movie by Ridley Scott The Kingdom of Heaven is a great example of a romanticized version of the Knights Templar. But is is based on real people and things could have happened the way he showed it in this excellent movie. The events happened so long ago we have to fill in a lot of stories. What is for sure is that Knights Templar were a reflection of their times and what was happening in French culture at the time. Let's talk about their amazing rise and precipitous fall. Sat 24 Feb 2018 ✏️ Authentic Adhkār from the Qur’an & Sunnah: Lesson 6: The Virtues of verse Ayatul-Kursi (2:255), Suratul Ikhlaas (The Purity) and other chapters • Brief Recap of previous lessons • This lesson will cover the virtue of Ayatul Kursi (the verse which mentions the footstool of Allah, 2:255), Chapter Al-Ikhlaas (The Purity) and other chapters o Previous lessons have mentioned that certain chapters of the Qur’an have specific virtues, e.g. we covered Chapter Al-Fatiha (The Opening) in lesson 5 • The greatest verse of the Quran is Ayatul kursi (Chapter Al-Baqarah (The Cow), verse 255) o Ubayy b. Ka'b said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: O Abu' al-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: Allah and His Apostle (ﷺ) know best. He again said: Abu'l-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. Thereupon he struck me on my breast and said: May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu'l-Mundhir!” [Sahih Muslim] o What is the reason for the high status of Ayatul kursi? This is due to the meanings of tawhid (Islamic monotheism) and praise upon Allah that it carries. It mentions the attributes of Might and Majesty of Allah. o Ayatul kursi has 5 names of Allah and over 20 attributes of Allah and this is more than any one verse in the Qur’an o Shayk ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said there is not a single ayah of the qur’an which incorporates that which ayatul kursi incorporates o Due to this great virtue of this verse, a person who reads ayatul kursi at night, then Allah will place a guardian upon him/her until dawn and no shaitan (satan) will approach him/her: Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle ordered me to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing from the foodstuff. I caught him and said, "I will take you to Allah's Apostle!" Then Abu Huraira described the whole narration and said: That person said (to me), "(Please don't take me to Allah's Apostle and I will tell you a few words by which Allah will benefit you.) When you go to your bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi, (2.255) for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn." (When the Prophet heard the story) he said (to me), "He (who came to you at night) told you the truth although he is a liar; and it was Satan." [Sahih Al-Bukhari] o Hadith of Abu umamah that the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said “whoever reads Ayahtul kursi at the end of each the obligatory prayers, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except that he dies” [Reported in Sunan an-Nasa'i] o Ibnul Qayyim mentioned that Shaykh ul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah would always recite Ayatul kursi at the end of each of the obligatory prayers • Chapter Al-Ikhlaas (The Purity) also has a great virtue; o The reward for reciting this chapter is equal to that of a third of the qur’an o How is this (i.e. Suratul Ikhlas being equivalent to a 1/3 of the Qur’an) the case? There are generally 3 topics in the Qur’an, these are; tawhid (monotheism), rulings (e.g. halal, haram) stories of the Prophets or those of the past. Some of the scholars say since Suratul-Ikhlaas purely incorporates tawhid then this is why is has the reward for reciting a third of the Qur’an. o It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al Khudri that: A man heard another man reciting "Say: He is Allah, (the) One" and repeating it. When morning came he went to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and told him about that. The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, it is equal to one-third of the Quran." [Related by Sunan an-Nasa'i] For rest of Summary go to AlhudaBolton.com
Sunday 21 Jan ✏️ Remedying the Heavy and Tight Chest Lesson 2: Causes of weakness or strength in Eemaan, what happens to the heart when one sins? • Brief Recap of lesson 1 • Without Tawhid the heart cannot experience true tranquillity • No amount of wealth will grant tranquillity • How is it possible for a heart to have relaxation without that heart recognising the lord which has created it? How can one have peace without knowing the purpose for which he/she is created? o Anecdote of one waking up on an aeroplane, not knowing where he/she is going or why he/she is on that plane to begin with, the first thing one would want to know is “why am I here?” even before wanting to know how • Tawhid increases and decrease and this is affected by knowledge and patience o Your chest will be expanded in proportion to how strong your tawhid is and vice versa • Ibn Qayyim mentioned in another book concerning which group of people have the most perfect of Tawhid o NOTE: Tawhid has a basis/foundation, what is this? o NOTE: after the foundation of tawhid, there is the perfection of Tawhid, brief recap (see Lesson 1) o NOTE: the importance of staying away from the major sins, not persistently committing minor sins and accompanying that with seeking forgiveness o Recap of who are the best of the people in perfection of Tawhid, (see Lesson 1) • Shaikh Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaami says the above (i.e. Tawhid and Eemaan increasing and decreasing) is something a person is aware of by himself from own experience • Ibn Qayyim states a person’s soul fluctuates between commanding with evil, self reproaching and commanding with good. These are symptoms of strength or weakness of Eemaan • Causes of a person’s Eemaan and Tawhid becoming weak: o Turning away from Allah subhaanahu wata’aalaa. o Allah will test you with situations where you have an option to obey or disobey Allah with your hand, eye, speech etc o NOTE: after disobeying Allah, the soul of a believer becomes regretful and tight • Causes of a person’s Eemaan and Tawhid becoming strong: o Obeying Allah o NOTE: this must be done in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Performing Bidah is not obeying Allah. • Note: in the above, when mentioning strength or weakness of Tawhid, Eemaan is also mentioned, why is this? Are the identical? o This is because the essence of Eemaan is magnifying and glorifying your Lord and having Love for your Lord o These qualities (i.e. magnifying and loving Allah), if they are present in the heart it will naturally produce Tawhid • Ibn Qayyim mentions the verse: “Is he whose breast Allah has opened to Islam, so that he is in light from His Lord (as he who is non-Muslim)? So, woe to those whose hearts are hardened against remembrance of Allah! They are in plain error!” [39:22] o This is a favour and a blessing from Allah o This type of person, whom Allah has opened his chest to Islam and being conscious of Allah, he/she worships Allah as though he sees him (although one cannot see Allah in this world) o The one in whose heart Allah places light, then Allah gives him/her the sense of being close to Allah o When this type of person experiences sinning and weakness of eemaan, then this person will experience symptoms in his/her heart of a sense of loneliness as he/she has sinned against the one who was close to him/her and who placed light in your heart. The One you escape back to in such a situation is Allah as he is the only one who can save you from the evil of your own sin and the one who can restore that light in your heart. Free Will and Compatibilism. In this episode of Meta Treks, part two of a two-part discussion about free will vs. determinism in Star Trek, hosts Mike Morrison and Zachary Fruhling weigh different possible meanings of free will as responses to the threat of causal determinism in Star Trek. Are Captain Kirk and Captain Archer radically free as existentialism holds? Is free will an indispensable concept as pragmatism holds? As Captain Kirk, Captain Sisko, and Captain Janeway learn to embrace their own unique destinies, do they become genuine examples of the compatibility of free will and determinism in Star Trek? And what exactly would Picard do with his free will if he were stuck in a blue shirt? Hosts Mike Morrison and Zachary Fruhling wrestle with these philosophical questions and more, through the lens of Star Trek.
