In this episode, the Team chats with Haley Moore, VP of Design, about her career path from designer to manager and how she came to terms with embracing her natural ability to lead projects and being comfortable managing a team of very skilled designers. She discusses taking leaps in her career in order to not lean away from her natural skillsets, even if they are hard to recognize, and being ok with the concept of not being the best at something. Haley also discusses the traits and qualities she looks for when hiring a new designer, including how to share a bit of yourself with your interviewers. Kristen discusses Bigfoot (again), and Haley unwinds with snacks on the floor to deal with burnout.Host, Producer, & Editor - Mark CelaHost, Director, & Script Writer - Kristen PericleousHost, Social Media Manager, Social Media Content Creator, & Editor - Dan LawsonHost, Website Director - Lauren DeMarks

Have you ever watched an artist wrestle with their inner demons as they try to capture something ethereal on the canvas? It's this very struggle between ego and insecurity that we unravel in our latest episode, where we uncover how artists balance confidence with vulnerability. We discuss the critical role of ego—not as a symbol of arrogance but as a beacon of assurance—and how this impacts an artist's interaction with the art world. Join us and a panel of artists as we share candid experiences of wrestling with self-doubt, all while boldly owning the title of 'artist' with pride and authenticity. This episode also peels back the layers of complex emotions tied to visibility and recognition in the art world. Imagine the double-edged sword of yearning for acclaim, while simultaneously standing naked to public critique—it's a vulnerability we all know too well, but one that can lead to growth. We navigate the art of celebrating personal achievements, leaning on the strength of a supportive community, and managing the green-eyed monster of jealousy with grace. Our guests open up about the transformative power of encouragement and how fostering connectivity elevates not just individual artists, but the entire creative ecosystem. Finally, we take you on a journey to the seclusion and inspiration of artist residencies like Pooch Cove, where the environment shapes spirit and practice. Through personal stories, we reflect on how spaces like these can catalyze profound shifts in artistic perspectives, illustrated by our own encounters with the vastness of nature and a community that feels like an instant family. We wrap up with heartfelt gratitude to the residencies that have rekindled our creative flames and tease the promise of upcoming museum visits and interviews. If you're an artist or just fascinated by the creative process, this episode is a palette of emotions and revelations not to be missed.Artists in the episode:@tynathanclark @Moksananda@francis.beaty@audreycha.art@jaclyn_gordyan@giannatesone@allisonhudsonart@bonny_thomassen_art (present but not in the episode)Send us a message - we would love to hear from you!Make sure to follow us on Instagram here:@justmakeartpodcast @tynathanclark @nathanterborg

Brandon Sánchez Mejia stood at a giant wall in UC Berkeley's Worth Ryder Art Gallery and couldn't believe his eyes. In front of him were 150 black-and-white photos of men's bodies in all sorts of poses and from all sorts of angles. It was his senior thesis project, "A Masculine Vulnerability," and it was out for the world to see."It came from this idea that as men, we are not allowed to show skin as scars or emotions or weakness," said Sánchez, who will graduate from Berkeley this May with a bachelor's degree in art practice.Sánchez's cohort is part of the Department of Art of Practice's 100th year, a milestone that department chair Ronald Rael said is cause for celebration."There have been moments in art practice's history when it was unclear that art should be at a university at all," said Rael, a professor of architecture and affiliated faculty in art. "And here we are, at 100 years, and it's one of the most popular majors on campus."Listen to the episode and read the transcript on Berkeley News (news.berkeley.edu). This is a companion podcast to a feature story about Sánchez, published earlier this month on Berkeley News. There, you can view more photos and read about about how Sánchez's mom made him stay inside for a year as a teenager in El Salvador out of fear he'd join a gang. And how, against his mom's wishes and without any money of his own, he decided to pursue an education — no matter what it took. UC Berkeley photo by Keegan Houser. Music by Blue Dot Sessions. I met Beth MG in person at a group modeling event earlier this year and I just had to interview her for the podcast! Beth is very acrobatic, and I learned during our conversation that she did gymnastics as a kid. Art school was inspirational for Beth, even though she didn't feel confident in her artistic skills, the experience of class brought her into the modeling world. Photography students asked her to be their subject over and over, and she enjoyed some of the creative projects... posted some images on Fetlife, and found her first modeling gig that way! The rest is history, and you can learn more about the progression of Beth's modeling, her past relationships, her rising phoenix moment and more! We've spent years as students and actually become good. So, how does 5 years feel like a tug of war? I've been fighting with myself for control while the judges are the ones listening to this episode today. The judges, successful or not, get to sit comfortably at my expense. She didn't make it after university. She has a degree and works minimum wage? She majored in arts, that's why? What I choose to do next, is finally up to me and maybe that's scary but freeing. This episodes will feel like being ok in the dark but needing a flashlight just to be sure you made the right decision and ironically this is how we Art Students feel. So I guess here's to being freely lost, confidently (post grad).

We're wrapping up our Beatlestravaganza with the later years of Mr. John Lennon. We really rip open the onion that is this complicated human and discuss how to truly separate the artist from the art. We also realize that each Beatle tells the same story, but completely differently and talk about how being a rad dad reflects poorly on the kids. Here we are at the end, and we feel pretty confident that our opinions on these 4 are pretty solid. And we never want to read another book about them.Want to support your favorite beer drinkin' babes? Check out our Patreon!Listen to all the great podcasts over on the Pantheon Network!
