According to Oxford dictionary, fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. Fear is real....God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, andof love, and of a sound mind.

Your ex's schizoaffective episodes keep getting court-approved showtime with your special-needs child, despite restraining orders. It's Feedback Friday! And in case you didn't already know it, Jordan Harbinger (@JordanHarbinger) and Gabriel Mizrahi (@GabeMizrahi) banter and take your comments and questions for Feedback Friday right here every week! If you want us to answer your question, register your feedback, or tell your story on one of our upcoming weekly Feedback Friday episodes, drop us a line at friday@jordanharbinger.com. Now let's dive in! On This Week's Feedback Friday, We Discuss: You're raising a special-needs child in Norway while locked in an endless dance with a legal system that keeps inviting your ex — who has a documented history of violent psychotic episodes — to waltz back into your lives despite restraining orders. How do you protect your child when the system seems determined to tango with danger? You're watching L.A.'s recent wildfire coverage from your Northern California community, where neighbors still camp in RVs after losing everything to even larger infernos. It's like screaming into the void while celebrities get prime-time attention for their lost pool houses. How do you process this disparity in coverage and support? Your professor treats student assistants like Victorian servants, dismisses them mid-sentence, and weaponizes awkward silences. How do you co-exist with someone who has such authority while preserving your dignity? Diagnosed with paranoid personality disorder 20 years ago, your mother, once grounded in reality, now believes you've infected her brain with parasites and refuses to leave her house or see doctors. It's like watching someone slowly slip through your fingers while the legal system shrugs. How do you help someone who sees such help as a threat? Recommendation of the Week: Audit your medicine expiration dates. After three years of orchestrating your life around your rescue dog's careful medical routine, you've had to say goodbye. Like a cruel cosmic joke, it caps off two years of personal earthquakes — layoffs, moves, heartbreaks. Seemingly sharing in the act of mourning, your other dog howls at the pawprint box. How do you rebuild when grief keeps redecorating? Have any questions, comments, or stories you'd like to share with us? Drop us a line at friday@jordanharbinger.com! Does Illinois really need a new flag? Or is the old "seal on a bedsheet" good enough? In this Under Rocks Extra, we call on our favorite expert, self-proclaimed state symbologist and Illinois Enthusiast John Kokoris to review the options the state's flag commission is offering. And he is, respectfully, not pleased.

A Supreme Court spouse (hereafter "Mrs. Alito") hangs a flag upside down. Accusation of traitorousness ensure. Plus, a unionization vote fails in Alabama, or did it really just pre-succeed? And hundreds of years ago we didn't have GPS, Hinge, Tiles, trackers, or asprin, but we did have magic, as practiced by Cunning Folk. We're joined by Tabitha Stanmore the author of Cunning Folk: Life in the Era of Practical Magic. The previous commander-in-chief, Donald Trump, recently made clear his intentions, insisting that before their initial face-off in June, incumbent President Biden should be subject to a drug test. This demand comes after Trump, not for the first time, expressed doubts over Biden's physical and cognitive capabilities during his public addresses. The questioning of Biden's condition during his State of the Union address is not an opinion held by Trump alone. Rep. Greg Murphy is in agreement, with observations made during Biden's speech in March fuelling the suspicion. In light of these doubts, both Trump and Biden have consented to a duo of debates. Slated to be aired on mainstream media outlets CNN and ABC, the first of these encounters is just a little over a month away. In his signature style, Trump maintained the importance of acting fairly – a belief undeniably shared by many conservatives – during a recently held dinner event. Vexed as he may be by potential bias, Trump is prepared to confront such challenges head-on.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week Meredith & Tess indulge in one of their favorite pastimes: complaining about other people! There are of course the usual suspects: your social media trolls, your IRL Karens, your low-level authority figures on a power trip, etc. But there are also the less obviously tiresome twits who think every comedy sketch Boredwalk posts to social media is a documentary, or that every song Taylor Swift and countless other musicians write are 100% autobiographical descriptions of their life experiences, or that creative work more broadly — including the clothes and tools and furniture we all buy and use every day — just poofed into existence with zero forethought or intention or years of training and practice behind their genesis. It's enough to make those of us who DO recognize the work behind the stuff we take for granted want to scream as we walk into the ocean. Meredith then discusses her recent efforts to reverse Boredwalk's fortunes, both practical and magical, before Tess shares some dispatches from the aforementioned Land of Social Media Trolls. If only we could transfer our curses to them! Our hosts then read and react to fan responses to the recent Question of the Day "What do you wish you didn't like?" before sharing their own. They wrap up the episode by trading answers to questions from the Delve Deck Venting and Joy Editions: "What is the dumbest thing people spend money on?" and "What were the best things about your teen years?" If you think the Delve Deck questions and the conversations they sparked sound fun, head over to Boredwalk.com and pick up sets for yourself! The South Carolina senator Tim Scott likes to point to himself as an example of racial progress in America. But in a recent story for The New Yorker, Robert Samuels looked into Scott's personal story—in many ways a messier tale than the one he tells—and into the ways that the “concave mirror shaped by his own experience” distorts Scott's view of politics. Samuels joins Tyler Foggatt to discuss Scott's Presidential run, and what he reveals about the Republican Party's relationship to race and racism.
