The U.S. Coast guard says it is still investigating the cause of a catastrophic implosion that destroyed the Titan submersible on a dive in the North Atlantic, killing all five passengers onboard. Titan was built and operated by Everett-based OceanGate. The company was a player in the nascent deep sea tourism industry, shuttling people to the site of the Titanic wreck at a cost of $250,000 a ticket. A new article in WIRED magazine details that, for years before Titan disappeared, engineers and experts in the submersible industry had warned OceanGate, and its CEO Stockton Rush, that Titan had potentially fatal design problems. The St. John's Morning Show from CBC Radio Nfld. and Labrador (Highlights)
The Titan submersible was headed 38-hundred metres down below, to the sea wreckage of the Titanic. Among the five on-board: Stockton Rush -- the CEO of OceanGate Expeditions, which built the submersible. And when contact was lost with the Titan, international media descended on St. John's harbour. And that's where Morning Show reporter Darrell Roberts went live this morning, where he spoke with Ryan Cooke, who was heavily involved with reporting the story.
June 18, 2023 was supposed to be a great day for Stockton Rush. He was piloting his Titan submersible down to see the wreckage of the RMS Titanic with Paul-Henri Nargeolet and three paying crewmembers aboard; Hamish Harding as well as Shahzada and Suleman Dawood. The three had paid a total of $750,000 for the opportunity. Rush wanted to get people down to the depths to feel the excitement he did whenever he went. Unfortunately, the sub was lost and after a huge search and recue effort was launched, many wanted to know what had gone wrong...
With apologies for the absense of new material, I'm a bit under it and overwhelmed - not much unlike the passengers of the OceanGate Titan Submersible just under a year ago! This is a piece of bonus content which I described as "a somewhat rushed minisode that once again turned out to be not so mini". It was based on the best evidence and understanding of events that was available at the time. I think I can safely say no much has changed since then, so I stand by it. I also stand by some substantially backed-up billionaire bashing.I did my best to cut through the social media clutter and applied my own math as best I could - but the fact about this disaster is it is unprescidented. We're talking about physics and hydrodynamics at levels we have zero experience with, and no real way to test, or reason to try. So many things had to go wrong for this to happen, and I will happily singing-telegram-style deliver the blame directly to Stockton Rush's door.In this new episode, you will learn:• Just how fascinatingly irresponsible Stockton Rush was• Why making fun of dead billionaires is good for you• Exactly how unbelievably nightmarish the last trip of the Titan wasThere will be math and science and gelatinous goo, all for you my loyal listeners.Speaking of Bonus Content. At a depth of 10,000 feet (approximately 3,048 meters) under the surface of the ocean, immense pressure is exerted due to the weight of the water above. This depth is part of the oceanic zone known as the bathyal zone, characterized by its significant darkness, cold temperatures, and high pressure environment. The pressure at this depth is quite staggering, reaching approximately 1,086 pounds per square inch (psi) or 750 times the atmospheric pressure at sea level. To put it into perspective, imagine the weight of a small car pressing down on an area the size of your fingertip. The primary contributor to this pressure is the hydrostatic pressure, resulting from the weight of the water column above.Every additional 33 feet (10 meters) of depth adds another atmosphere (14.7 psi) of pressure. Thus, at 10,000 feet, the pressure is equivalent to around 320 atmospheres or 4,674 psi.Such intense pressure poses numerous challenges for any object or organism at this depth. It necessitates specialized equipment and technology for human exploration, including submarines or remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). These vessels must be constructed with robust materials capable of withstanding the immense forces and preventing structural collapse. For marine life, surviving at these depths requires unique adaptations. Deep-sea organisms have evolved to withstand the extreme pressure, either through specialized body structures or adaptations that enable them to maintain internal pressure similar to their surroundings. For example, deep-sea fish often have flexible bodies and gel-filled organs that prevent them from being crushed under the pressure. In summary, the pressure at 10,000 feet beneath the ocean's surface is incredibly high, exerting forces hundreds of times greater than atmospheric pressure at sea level. This extreme pressure creates a challenging environment for exploration and demands remarkable adaptations for the survival of marine life.Yet knowing all of that and being aware of the risk people were taking by embarking on one of his adventures, he continued to stay the course using an experimental submersible that was bound for disaster and in this episode we hear from an ex engineer who worked on the project and rang the alarm bells way back in 2018.(commercial at 11:30)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:'I feared OceanGate CEO Stockon Rush' ego quest would KILL him and crew before Titanic sub tragedy' | Daily Mail OnlineThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5003294/advertisement

The CEO and creator of OceanGate, Stockton Rush is coming under heavy criticism in the wake of the disaster that saw his DIY submersible implode during it's descent to the wreckage of the Titanic.Rush, who was also aboard the doomed vessel, was allegedly hawking discounted trips on the trip that ended in disaster and also tried to woo one potential client by flying to meet him in Las Vegas using an experimental plane. The potential client, who was supposed to be in the seats that ended up occupied by Mr. Dawood and his son, says that after his son did some research and after he looked into things, he decided to pass because of safety concerns. This comes as Coast Guard and other international parties have announced an investigation into what happened that might also carry criminal penalities for some of those involved with the company and the trip.(commercial at 10:45)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:'Predatory' Titan sub boss Stockton Rush was 'hunting for rich clients to endorse doomed expedition' | Daily Mail OnlineThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5080327/advertisement

After five people perished on a controversial submersible dive to the wreckage of the Titanic in June, we got to thinking about what genuine undersea exploration looks like. In this episode, we speak with Tony Perrottet, who profiled the late OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush for Smithsonian magazine in 2019, about our ancient fascination with exploring hostile environments. Then we're joined by Susan Casey, who has written four best-selling books about the ocean and its creatures, the newest of which is The Underworld: Journeys to the Depths of the Ocean. Susan tells us why understanding the ocean is key to humanity's survival, and how, while serious research and shipwreck tourism may have some overlap, they remain two very different things. " Stockton Rush, the founder of OceanGate, was a tireless advocate of the Titan and its carbon-fiber design. He insisted the design was ""way safer"" than SCUBA diving and angrily dismissed warnings from experts and former employees about the Titan's design. The story of Oceangate submersible Titan continues to unfold in the aftermath of the disaster and the more we learn the more it seems certain that the tragedy was avoidable. Especially considering the warnings that Stockton Rush, the CEO and the pilot of the doomed submersible, ignored from many of his well respected peers about the safety and suitability of the titan vessel. In this episode we continue to learn more about Stockton Rush and his attitude when it came to safety and regulation and unfortunately, none of it it is flattering.(commercial at 11:20)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Stockton Rush, OceanGate Recklessness Was Open Secret Nobody Could Quell (insider.com)This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5080327/advertisement
[00:30] Constitutional Supreme Court Rulings Anger Radical Left (38 minutes) The Supreme Court session ended last week with three big rulings—striking down affirmative action, overturning Joe Biden's unconstitutional student loan forgiveness plan, and confirming that the government cannot force businesses to create things that violate the owners religious beliefs. These rulings all upheld the Constitution, but the left immediately claimed the rulings were unreasonable, partisan decisions by Trump appointees. [38:40] Deep Sea Lawlessness (17 minutes) “Woke” lawlessness has infiltrated science and engineering, as shown by the recent tragic implosion of OceanGate's submersible. CEO Stockton Rush believed that regulation stifled innovation and refused to listen to warnings from experts that the Titan submersible violated settled engineering principles. Violating physical laws will lead to destruction—but real creativity is achieved by working within the law.
We are learning a lot more about the designer and creator of the Titan submersible in the wake of the disaster that unfolded on June 18th and all of it has put Stockton Rush in a bad light. From cutting corners on materials to pitching the trip as being as safe as walking across the street, it would seem that just about everything Stockton Rush said about his submersible and it's sea worthiness was nothing but a marketing campaign. In this episode, we hear once again, from Stockton Rush own moth, about how the glue he used on the hull was like peanut butter and how there wasn't a lot of room for error if the hull failed. According to a passenger who rode on the doomed submarine during a previous trip, they were hit with technical problems surrounding the battery. This situation led to Stockton Rush alerting the passengers that they might have to stay on the ocean floor for 24 hours waiting for the situation to rectify itself. Thankfully, that never came to pass, but it was just one of many red flags that were present leading up to this ill fated voyage.(commercial at 7:47)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Titan passenger says OceanGate CEO told them to SLEEP when they got stuck at bottom of Atlantic | Daily Mail OnlineThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5080327/advertisement

After the Titan submersible imploded last week, Matthew Gavin Frank's journey to the depths with Karl Stanley, a friend of Stockton Rush's, took on a new meaning. (Frank rode in Stanley's sub in February of this year; his essay, in which Frank meditates on the eternal dangers and allure of deep-sea exploration, went online the day after the OceanGate sub went missing.) He discusses Stanley's warnings to Rush, mass fear, and whether he regrets his experience. On Sunday June 18th 2023, OceanGate's Titanic-bound submersible, The Titan, went missing with five people on board. Hamish Harding, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman Dawood, and Stockton Rush, the CEO of the tour organizer, OceanGate Expeditions, all unfortunately died in the craft. The world waited for a miracle to happen, as rescue workers worked fiercely around the clock to hopefully locate the missing submersible. Having only approximately 96 hours of air supply was a horrifying thought as the world waited and hoped for a miracle. However, details soon emerged that the Titan Submersible suffered a “catastrophic implosion,” killing everyone on board. According to reports, a remotely operated vehicle found the tail cone of the Titan about 1,600 feet away from the bow of the shipwreck. Now questions are rising concerning the safety measures compromised. Were corners cut while preparing this submersible to reach the depth of roughly 13,000 feet where the Titanic now lies? Titanic Expert, Bill Willard, joins us to discuss what may have actually occurred on board the OceanGate's submersible. So, strap in and let's take a in-depth look into this catastrophic disaster of the Titanic-Bound submersible from OceanGate here on Crime & Entertainment. To be in attendance at the Titanic convention this year at the Luxor check the link here.https://www.voyagesexploretitanic.com/ Like us on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/crimeandente...Follow us on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/crimenenter...Listen on Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/4T67Bs5...Listen on Apple Music - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Listen on Stitcher - https://www.stitcher.com/show/crime-e...Listen on Google Podcast - https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0...Listen on Amazon Music - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/9cd...

The CEO and creator of OceanGate, Stockton Rush is coming under heavy criticism in the wake of the disaster that saw his DIY submersible implode during it's descent to the wreckage of the Titanic. Rush, who was also aboard the doomed vessel, was allegedly hawking discounted trips on the trip that ended in disaster and also tried to woo one potential client by flying to meet him in Las Vegas using an experimental plane. The potential client, who was supposed to be in the seats that ended up occupied by Mr. Dawood and his son, says that after his son did some research and after he looked into things, he decided to pass because of safety concerns. This comes as Coast Guard and other international parties have announced an investigation into what happened that might also carry criminal penalities for some of those involved with the company and the trip. "Our rule is, we risk capital — we don't risk people." That was the guiding principle for Everett-Wash.-based OceanGate, as described by its CEO, Stockton Rush, at the GeekWire Summit in October 2022. Rush's engineering decisions, and his tolerance for risk, as reflected in his comments at our event, are getting new scrutiny after the apparent implosion of OceanGate's Titan submersible, near the site of the Titanic wreck deep under the North Atlantic Ocean this week, killing Rush and four others on board. On this episode of the GeekWire Podcast, we're joined by Alan Boyle, GeekWire contributing editor, who has been covering OceanGate for the past seven years. He tells the story of Stockton Rush and the company, discusses the tragedy of the past week, and contemplates what's next for OceanGate and the larger world of ocean and space exploration. Now what? In this episode, we're going to talk about what really happened in the Titanic submarine tragedy, how the number of memes mocking the whole escapade is endless, and why this whole bizarre story captured so much of our attention. Highlights: ● “There was even some social commentary, where a number of people pointed out the contrast between the massive search and rescue effort that involved planes, ships, a submarine, and sub-sea robot capable of descending all the way to the ocean floor with the relatively measured and almost hesitant response to a recently capsized boat carrying hundreds of migrants in the Mediterranean.” ● “There's now charges that the Navy knew that the submarine had exploded days ago and that the whole search and rescue operation was basically one big sham.” ● “The whole escapade has shed fresh light on how the super-rich not only regularly avail themselves of adventures that, precisely because of their cost, remain inaccessible to all but the wealthiest individuals, but how frankly woke some of these adventures are.” ● “Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate and the tour guide on the ill-fated submersible believed that a younger sub-pilot or platform operator who was a minority could somehow be more of an inspiration to those involved in OceanGate. Color, not competence, seemed to be this woke CEO's concern.” Timestamps: [00:49] What happened to the Titanic submarine tragedy [03:03] On the four-day ordeal search and on the number of memes mocking the whole escapade [07:03] What is really going on here - why this whole bizarre story captured so much of our attention Resources: ● Start the 24/7 Protection of Your Home and Equity Today! The passengers of the Titanic submersible are now believed dead after the U.S. Coast Guard found the debris deep in the Atlantic "consistent with a catastrophic implosion of the vessel." OceanGate Expeditions released a statement, expressing condolences to the friends and families of the Titan passengers, Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood, Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet. Tom Maddox of Underwater Forensic Investigators joins the Rundown Evening Edition once more to share his expertise as a member of the 2005 Titanic submarine expedition. He breaks down what may have led to the Titan's catastrophic failure, if the bodies will ever be found, and grieves the loss, calling it "one that we have expected but hoped would not come true." By and large, Americans simply want to be left alone so that they can go about their lives in peace. Unfortunately, a segment of the population is determined to shove their agenda down people's throats. There's only so much regular Americans can take before they've had enough, and it seems like we are quickly approaching that threshold. The OceanGate Titanic sub search is continuing with hope dwindling rapidly. In a recently released video, the OceanGate CEO, Stockton Rush, said he didn't want to hire “50-year-old white guys” because they weren't “inspirational.” Was this tragic situation avoidable? Is this the end result of hiring for diversity instead of meritocracy? Elon Musk deemed the LGBT term “cisgender” and “cis” to be slurs when used on Twitter. While no one wants to police speech, it does seem fair that neither side should be able to call the other derogatory names. A Pfizer rep admitted that researchers didn't test for COVID transmission, claiming they were moving at the “speed of science.” Being in a rush simply isn't an acceptable answer to one of the biggest scientific blunders in history. James O'Keefe got a BlackRock rep on camera admitting to buying politicians, sometimes for as little as $10,000. The Pentagon said an “accounting error” resulted in finding $6 billion more in aid to Ukraine. What kind of “accounting error” overlooks that much money? Is there nothing better we could have used those additional funds for? We're joined by Sky Corban, political commentator and content creator, to find out how he's using humor to relay truth and how he got started making content.
