Adventure Journal brings their expertise to geek about gear, share their adventures, and chit chat about the outdoors.
The Adventure Journal Podcast is a must-listen for any outdoor enthusiast. As a long-time fan of the Adventure Journal in its various forms, including the blog and print publication, I was thrilled to hear that they had launched a podcast. This podcast covers everything from hiking and biking to surfing, skiing, camping, and more. If you love adventure and exploring the great outdoors, this is definitely a podcast worth following.
One of the best aspects of The Adventure Journal Podcast is the wealth of knowledge and experience that the hosts bring to each episode. They are all seasoned outdoor writers who have been involved in the industry for years. Their passion for adventure shines through in every conversation and their genuine love for the wilderness is contagious. The conversations are thought-provoking and cover a diverse range of topics under the single theme of loving the outdoors.
Another great aspect of this podcast is the relaxed and conversational tone that it takes. The hosts have a great vibe together and their camaraderie comes through in their discussions. It feels like you're sitting around a campfire with friends, sharing stories and experiences. This laid-back approach makes it easy to listen to and enjoy, even if you're not familiar with all of the activities they discuss.
In terms of drawbacks, there really isn't much to say. Since it's still a new podcast, there aren't many episodes available yet. However, based on the first episode alone, it's clear that this podcast has potential to become something truly special.
In conclusion, The Adventure Journal Podcast is a must-listen for anyone who loves adventure and exploring the outdoors. With knowledgeable hosts who bring their own unique perspectives to each episode, this podcast offers something for everyone interested in outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, surfing, skiing, camping, and more. Whether you're an experienced adventurer or just starting out on your outdoor journey, this podcast will inspire you to get outside and explore.

Denise Joi is one of four pilots for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, where she flies a small Cessna between soaring Rocky Mountain peaks, conducting wildlife surveys and -- more dangerous and dramatic -- fish drops, stocking pristine alpine lakes with trout and grayling. We spoke with her about her incredible job, but also her amazing short film "Fight or Flight" that shows the real reason she pursued flying and how that pursuit helped heal trauma. From the 1970s on, backpacking reigned supreme. Every outdoor person backpacked, or so it seemed. In a 2012 AJ poll, readers told us they preferred backpacking to car camping 9 to 1. But in the last decade, something changed. Car camping rebranded itself as overlanding and was suddenly cool. Today, backpacking seems to have lost its vibe. But has it? In this episode of the Adventure Journal podcast, we're taking a stand on a pursuit loved by millions. Is backpacking overrated? Underrated? Let's go down this trail and see where we end up. In February 1959 in Russia, nine young ski tourers failed to return from an expedition to the Ural Mountains. Weeks and months later, when searchers finally found their bodies, the evidence—their tent, manner of dress, footprints in the snow, and strange injuries—didn't come close to offering a logical explanation. After 64 years, the mystery has only deepened. Did the KGB kill them? Was it a Russian weapons test gone awry? UFOs? In this week's Adventure Journal podcast, we try to solve the eerie case of the Dyatlov Pass event. “Well, you're not hardcore unless you live hardcore,” sang Jack Black in “School of Rock.” In this episode, taking a cue from our pal Jack, we tackle core-ness: What does it mean to be core? Why do we care if we're perceived as hardcore or not? Does it signify anything? In Book Club, Stephen Casimiro takes us on a trip through Diane Cook's The New Wilderness. It's a semi-post-apocalyptic tale of a group of people chosen to live in the last stretch of wilderness in the country, as urban civilization decays. Post-apocalyptic mindbenders are catnip for Stephen, and maybe this one will be for you too. In a trip to the Gear Shed, Justin Housman talks up Patagonia's new line of neoprene-free wetsuits. Even if you don't surf, it's a fascinating look at how Patagonia is trying to clean up the toxic wetsuit industry, a business that is surprisingly dirty. Plus, it's just a great wetsuit. All that and more general outdoor talk goodness. Did you have one seminal experience that set you on a life of adventure? Or did you come to your adventurousness gradually? Adventure Journal founder and editor Stephen Casimiro and senior editor Justin Housman unpack their first major adventures, tackling how and why the restless hunger to explore gets under our skin. Also, in Over/Under, they take a stand on whether the American Northeast is overrated as an adventure destination. In gear, Casimiro's new canvas tent is a game changer for him—can it be for you, too? Plus, a review of the new novel by one of our favorite authors, Peter Heller, The Last Ranger. And probably lots more we're forgetting.
