Mason Paine - 0:01: Summer travel season is right around the corner and Google's chief technology and trends expert Craig Ewer joins me to share travel hacks and explain how AI tools can help make planning your trip a whole lot easier. Thanks for joining me Craig. Craig Ewer - 0:15: Glad to be here. Thank you. Mason Paine - 0:16: Tell me, what have been some of the trends when it comes to travel so far? Craig Ewer - 0:21: Well, a lot of people are looking for help with their travel plans on Google and in fact we've seen a number of all time high searches this year. One of those is kids passports. So it looks like people are really interested in traveling abroad with their families, also couples trips. So romantic getaways seem to be top of mind. We've also seen that cheap summer vacations are trending right now. So I do think people are interested in traveling on a budget. Mason Paine - 0:45: Has road trips been something that's pinging high? Craig Ewer - 0:48: You know, we always see lots of interest in road trip and in fact there are several national parks that are seeing a lot of searches. Yellowstone, Yosemite and Glacier national park are all top trending national parks this year. Mason Paine - 1:01: Now when it comes to any type of traveling, you have to plan something. Is there any particular way that Google helps you plan for these trips? Craig Ewer - 1:09: Yes. You know, you can actually go right to Google, search and type in something like create an itinerary for Costa Rica that's four days long and has a focus on nature. And you're going to get right in the search results an AI generated sample itinerary that'll lay out day by day suggestions for where to eat, places to see, tours you can take. And we show all of that on a map. So it's really easy to click around and see photos, reviews, that type of thing. And then from there it's really up to you how you want to make the trip your own. Mason Paine - 1:37: Is it something that you've tried recently? I'm just curious if you have experience with it. Craig Ewer - 1:42: Definitely. You know, I'm actually looking to go to Mexico around Labor Day and Oaxaca in particular. I said I'm going to Oaxaca for about four or five nights. I'm really interested in food and the local culture and immediately I got a bunch of great suggestions. And then from there, you know, you click out these websites, these travel blogs, you can get really great expert advice that way. Another tool that's worth mentioning is Gemini, which is Google's personal AI assistant and that's more of a chat experience and you can get really specific there with your questions as well. So one thing I love to do is get advice on my packing list, you can say, I'm going to these different locations over the course of a week, let's say. And then say, hey, you know, tell me what should I pack to account for all the different weather I might encounter? And we'll give you all of that advice right in one easy place. So it makes it really simple to get inspiration and help with your planning. Mason Paine - 2:31: I'm so happy you talked about Gemini. What's the difference between Gemini and Google Assistant? Craig Ewer - 2:36: Gemini is really AI powered. Right. It's the future of what we're doing in terms of giving you assistance with AI. So Gemini does have the ability to interact with voi...

Find out what the world was searching for in April with Google Trends expert Charity Mhende. From the marathon craze sweeping New York to the viral return of the Ice Bucket Challenge and the unexpected surge in pickled foods. You can visit Trends.google.com for all of your search needsYou can like Google on Facebook at: Facebook.com/GoogleFollow Google on Twitter at: Twitter.com/Google http://masonverapaine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/1.-Charity-Mhende-April-Google-Trends.mp3 Trends Transcription Announcer – 0:00: Mason Vera Paine. Mason Paine – 0:01: The month of April has come to an end and Google trends expert Charity Mende speaks about this past month's top trends. Thanks for joining me, Charity. Charity Mhende – 0:09: Thanks for having me. Mason Paine – 0:11: So tell me, month of April, what was all trending? Charity Mhende – 0:14: The month was super busy and of course, one of my favorite topics that's been trending is marathons. The past weekend in New York, people just ran the Brooklyn half. So we've seen a lot of interest in topics around sports. One of the top trending questions was, do people who run marathons know they don't have to? That was the top trending related question. And actually people were also searching for things like do people walk marathons? Do people run marathons without stopping? So it was all about the sports this past month. Mason Paine – 0:49: I'm curious, was there any particular shoe that was trending for marathons? I'm guessing you can't just use anything. Charity Mhende – 0:55: Well, people actually come to Google every day to search different topics and, you know, marathons and running was definitely one of them. But one of the interesting ones that was also coming up is gifting. People were searching for lots of different apparel related gifting searches in the run up to things like Mother's Day. So one of the things that I loved seeing was that people were searching for things like Mother's Day gift ideas, graduation gift ideas, and wedding present gift ideas all spiking by 5,000%. So I know I'm eyeing up some running shoes for my mom because she's out there trying to get her steps. Mason Paine – 1:33: In, you know, for my mom, I've kind of stopped trying to get her things because she gets her own things. And apparently she's a better shopper for herself than I am. And she always gets upset when I get her stuff. So I'm like, you know what I told my sister this year? We should just take her shopping and then we should go somewhere really fancy to eat afterwards. Right. Like making an experience. Charity Mhende – 1:57: That sounds like a great idea. And actually, you know, one of the things that I love about Google shopping is like, it makes shopping super easy. Specifically if your mom's looking for any deals or if you wanted to get her something for Mother's Day on a very specific budget, you can actually go on shopping.google.com and there is a personalized deal page that shows you different options that she might like, but also you might point her to it so she can make the shopping journey easy for herself. Mason Paine – 2:25: Absolutely. And also talking about spending money. Coachella. Coachella was in April. Was there any trends for that we. Charity Mhende – 2:32: Saw a lot of interest within the whole Coachella bracket. Specifically, it saw the highest search interest in the past month than it's ever been since 2018. People were also searching for Addison Rae, which rose by 650% after her surprise appearance. And her Coachella outfit was also a breakout search. Mason Paine – 2:54: I'm a little curious. Have you ever been to Coachella? Charity Mhende – 2:57: I unfortunately have not. The one Coachella that I should have gone to was the one that Beyonce went to because that looked like it was phenomenal. Mason Paine – 3:05: Isn't it always in hindsight? Like this year I was like, ah, you know,

Hansen, a retired Danish police officer, loaded up his basket at the supermarket, carefully checking each product to avoid buying anything made in the United States. No more Coca-Cola, no more California Zinfandel wine or almonds. On his recent shopping trip, Hansen returned home with dates from Iran. It shocked him to realize that he now perceives the United States as a greater threat than Iran. "Trump really looks like a bully who tries in every way to intimidate, threaten others to get his way," he told The Associated Press. "I will fight against that kind of thing." Hansen is just one supporter of a growing movement across Europe and Canada to boycott U.S. products. People are joining Facebook groups where they exchange ideas about how to avoid U.S. products and find alternatives. Feelings are especially strong across the Nordic region—and possibly strongest in Denmark, given Trump's threats to seize Greenland. Google Trends showed a spike in searches for the terms "Boycott USA" and "Boycott America" as Trump announced new tariffs, with the top regions including Denmark, Canada and France. At the same time, a global backlash is also building against Tesla as the brand becomes tied to Trump, with plunging sales in Europe and Canada. In Germany, police were investigating after four Teslas were set on fire. Responding to consumer demand, Denmark's largest supermarket chain, the Salling Group, created a star-shaped label this March to mark European-made goods sold in its stores. CEO Anders Hagh said it's not a boycott, but a response to consumers demanding a way to easily avoid American products. "Our stores will continue to have brands on the shelves from all over the world, and it will always be up to customers to choose. The new label is only an additional service for customers who want to buy goods with European labels," he said in a LinkedIn post. This article was provided by The Associated Press.
During President Donald Trump's first months in office, he signed more than 120 executive orders. The Financial Times reports that more than 100 legal challenges have been filed against these, including by federal judges.Former president Joe Biden signed 162 orders during his 4-year term. During Trump's term from 2017 to 2021, he signed 220 orders. In eight years, Barack Obama signed 277 and George W. Bush signed 291.Tensions between the executive and judicial branches have come as the executive orders extend presidential power, including in cases involving deportation without due process, freedom of speech, state's rights, elections, federal aid, governmental operations, and federal governmental regulation. Some of Trump's orders– like firing of federal workers based on recommendations of the Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency– have been upheld by the US Supreme Court.Others, like altering birthright citizenship and banning transgender people in the military, have been blocked by multiple federal judges. It's not unusual for the judicial branch to prevent oversteps in executive power. A Supreme Court vote blocked former President Barack Obama's executive orders to grant legal status to four million immigrants who had lived in the US for more than five years in 2016.But legal experts say the number of orders issued, their scope, and the number that have been challenged are unusual.Different political analysts and court experts have issued opinions about whether the United States is in a constitutional crisis. Google Trends indicates public interest in the issue has increased since January. This week, we'll ask legal experts for their analysis on the balance of governmental powers and the impact of recent executive actions on constitutional rights. On this week's Noon Edition, we'll host a discussion about the perceived threats to the Constitution and civil liberties by the Trump administration and the state of Indiana. This Noon Edition will be held at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. This event is free and open to the public. Guests should arrive to Room 121 by 11:30am for the live hour-long radio broadcast beginning at noon.Call-in questions will not be available during this episode, but we'll take questions from the audience in attendance as well as through email at news@indianapublicmedia.org. E per me significa Search Ecosystem Optimization. Quelle spariranno.
Join me as I chat with Justin Mares, Founder of Kettle and Fire, as he explains his methodical approach to validating Kettle and Fire before fully launching it in 2014-2015. He created a basic landing page with a PayPal checkout to test if people would pay $29.99 for bone broth, achieving a 30% conversion rate despite having no actual product. The conversation highlights how modern AI tools have dramatically lowered barriers to entry for entrepreneurs testing new business ideasTimestamps:• 00:00 - Intro• 01:05 - The Scale of Kettle and Fire• 01:20 - The Initial Idea and Inspiration• 02:16 - Validating Market Demand• 04:03 - Addressing Skepticism on Market Research• 06:00 - Testing Pricing and Demand• 08:48 - Bing Ads and Early Revenue• 12:22 - Leveraging AI for Business Today• 13:42 - Finding Passion-Driven Problems• 15:28 - Identifying Trends and Tools• 20:15 - ChatGPT 4o for Initial Product DesignKey Points• Justin shares how he validated and launched Kettle and Fire, now a nine-figure bone broth business• He used a minimal landing page, Fiverr logo, and Bing ads to test market demand before creating the product• The validation process focused on identifying if enough people wanted the product and if they would pay enough1) The "Day Zero" validation strategy that worked:Justin wanted bone broth for his own health but couldn't find it online. Before creating anything, he asked two critical questions:• How many people actually want this?• Will they pay enough to make it a viable business?Smart validation = less risk.2) Finding your TRUE market size:Justin didn't rely on gut feeling. He went where his potential customers hung out:• Paleo forums• CrossFit communities• Reddit threads• Mark's Daily AppleHe found FANATIC engagement around bone broth recipes, sourcing, and benefits3) The Google Trends hack Justin checked macro trends to confirm his micro observations. He wasn't looking to build a 9-figure business at 24 - just wanted to make $10K/month with his brother.Simple math: A few thousand customers spending a few hundred dollars a year = viable business.4) The $15 MVP that ACTUALLY validated demand:• $9.99 domain ([bonebroths.com](http://bonebroths.com/))• $5 logo from Fiverr• Basic landing page on UnbounceNo product. No fancy design. Just a simple page highlighting benefits that his target audience cared about:- Healing leaky gut- Convenience- Organic ingredients5) The GENIUS pricing strategy:Justin priced at $29.99 for 16oz - 6X MORE than grocery store broth! His thinking: "If people will pay this much for a product they've never tasted from a sketchy landing page, they REALLY want it."High price = strong signal of demand.6) The checkout flow was HILARIOUSLY janky:"Order Now" button → Justin's personal PayPalThat's it. That was the entire checkout. And guess what? PEOPLE STILL BOUGHT IT! After spending just $100 on Bing ads (yes, Bing!), he made nearly $500 in revenue.7) The honest follow-up that built trust:After validating demand, Justin emailed every customer:"We don't have the product yet. I can either refund you in full or give you 50% off when we ship in a few weeks."Most chose the discount, giving him runway to actually create the product.8) From validation to execution:It took 8 months to figure out production and scaling. But because he KNEW people wanted it and would pay for it, he had the confidence to push through the hard parts.9) How would he do it TODAY with AI tools?• Better landing pages using tools like Bolt.new• Sentiment analysis across Reddit/Twitter• AI-generated product designs (as shown in the podcast)10) The bigger lesson for aspiring founders:Focus on problems YOU care deeply about. The best ideas come from the frontier where you're already spending your time.11) AI is LEVELING the playing field:One person with strong conviction + AI tools can now build products that previously required entire teams.12) Want to find YOUR startup idea?Justin's advice:• Find a problem that lights you up• Circle that problem until you find interesting solutions• Validate with real customers willing to pay• Use AI to accelerate everythingLCA helps Fortune 500s and fast-growing startups build their future - from Warner Music to Fortnite to Dropbox. America is a deeply spiritual nation. Over 70% of us say that we feel spiritual in some way. But – at the same time – we're getting less religious. So for people who are spiritual-but-not-religious – what's replacing organized religion? What do they believe – and where does that show up in their day-to-day lives? In Brittany's series called Losing My Religion, It's Been a Minute is going to find out. In her final episode of the series, Brittany is investigating so-called manifestation. It's this popular belied that if you want something badly enough, it'll come to you. You might know this idea by other names, like The Law of Attraction, or The Secret. Manifestation spiked in 2020, according to Google Trends, and it's still riding that wave online. Brittany calls on with Tara Isabella Burton, an author and journalist, and New York Magazine's Rebecca Jennings to get to the bottom of this trend: the appeal of manifestation, its symbiotic relationship with the internet, and why it might make us less aware of our humanity.Want to get to know Brittany? I'm Rachel Fletcher Morgan Stanley's, Head of EMEA Sustainability Research.Arushi Agarwal: And I'm Arushi Agarwal European Sustainability Strategist, based in London.Rachel Fletcher: From kombucha to kimchi, probiotic rich fermented foods have long been staples at health-focused grocers. On the show today, a deeper dive into the future of fermentation technology. Does it hold the key to meeting the world's growing nutrition needs as people live longer, healthier lives? It's Wednesday, 26th of March, at 3 pm in London. Many of you listening may remember hearing about longevity. It's one of our four long-term secular themes that we're following closely at Morgan Stanley; and this year we are looking even more closely at a sub-theme – affordable, healthy nutrition. Arushi, in your recent report, you highlight that traditional agriculture is facing many significant challenges. What are they and how urgent is this situation?Arushi Agarwal: There are four key environmental and social issues that we highlight in the note. Now, the first two, which are related to emissions intensity and resource consumption are quite well known. So traditional agriculture is responsible for almost a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, and it also uses more than 50 percent of the world's land and freshwater resources. What we believe are issues that are less focused on – are related to current agricultural practices and climate change that could affect our ability to serve the rising demand for nutrition. We highlight some studies in the note. One of them states that the produce that we have today has on average 40 percent less nutrition than it did over 80 years ago; and this is due to elevated use of chemicals and decline in soil fertility. Another study that we refer to estimates that average yields could decline by 30 to 50 percent before the end of the century, and this is even in the slowest of the warming scenarios.Rachel Fletcher: I think everyone would agree that there are four very serious issues. Are there potential solutions to these challenges?Arushi Agarwal: Yes, so when we've written about the future of food previously, we've identified alternative proteins, precision agriculture, and seeds technology as possible solutions for improving food security and reducing emissions. If I focus on alternative proteins, this category has so far been dominated by plant-based food, which has seen a moderation in growth due to challenges related to taste and price. However, we still see significant need for alternative proteins, and synthetic biology-led fermentation is a new way to tap into this market. In simple terms, this technology involves growing large amounts of microorganisms in tanks, which can then be harvested and used as a source of protein or other nutrients. We believe this technology can support healthy longevity, provide access to reliable and affordable food, and also fill many of the nutritional gaps that are related to plant-based food.Rachel Fletcher: So how big is the fermentation market and why are we focusing on it right now?Arushi Agarwal: So, we estimate a base case of $30 billion by 2030. This represents a 5,000-kiloton market for fermented proteins. We think the market will develop in two phases. Phase one from 2025 to 2027 will be focused on whey protein and animal nutrition. We are already seeing a few players sell products at competitive prices in these markets. Moving on to phase two from 2028 to 2030, we expect the market will expand to the egg, meat and daily replacement industry. There are a few reasons we think investors should start paying attention now. 2024 was a pivotal year in validating the technology's proof of concept. A lot of companies moved from labs to pilot state. They achieved regulatory approvals to sell their products in markets like U.S. and Singapore, and they also conducted extensive market testing. As this technology scales, we believe the next three years will be critical for commercialization.Rachel Fletcher: So, there's potentially significant growth there, but what's the capital investment needed for this scaling effort?Arushi Agarwal: A lot of CapEx will be required. Scaling of this technology will require large initial CapEx, predominantly in setting up bioreactors or fermentation tanks. Achieving our 2030 base case stamp will require 200 million liters in bioreactor capacity. This equals to an initial investment opportunity of a hundred billion dollars. But once these facilities are all set up, ongoing expenses will focus on input costs for carbon, oxygen, water, nitrogen, and electricity. PWC estimates that 40 to 60 percent of the ongoing costs with this process are associated with electricity, which makes it a key consideration for future commercial investments.Rachel Fletcher: Now we've talked a lot about the potential opportunity and the potential total addressable market, but what about consumer preferences? Do you think they'll be easy to shift?Arushi Agarwal: So, we are already seeing evidence of shifting consumer trends, which we think can be supportive of demand for fermented proteins. An analysis of Google Trends, data shows that since 2019, interest in terms like high protein diet and gut health has increased the most. Some of the products we looked at within the fermentation space not only contain fiber as expected, but they also offer a high degree of protein concentration, a lot of times ranging from 60 to 90 percent.Additionally, food manufacturers are focusing on new format foods that provide more than one use case. For example, free from all types of allergens. Fermentation technology utilizes a very diverse range of microbial species and can provide solutions related to non-allergenic foods.Rachel Fletcher: We've covered a lot today, but I do want to ask a final question around policy support. What's the government's role in developing the alternative proteins market, and what's your outlook around policy in Europe, the U.S., and other key regions, for example?Arushi Agarwal: This is an important question. Growth of fermentation technology hinges on adequate policy support; not just to enable the technology, but also to drive demand for its products. So, in the note, we highlight various instances of ongoing policy support from across the globe. For example, regulatory approvals in the U.S., a cellular agriculture package in Netherlands, plant-based food fund in Denmark, Singapore's 30 by 30 strategy. We believe these will all be critical in boosting the supply side of fermented products. We also mentioned Denmark's upcoming legislation on carbon tax related to agriculture emissions. We believe this could provide an indirect catalyst for demand for fermented goods. Now, whilst these initiatives support the direction of travel for this technology, it's important to acknowledge that more policy support will be needed to create a level playing field versus traditional agriculture, which as we know currently benefits from various subsidies.Rachel Fletcher: Arushi, this has been really interesting. Thanks so much for taking the time to talk.Arushi Agarwal: Thank you, Rachel. It was great speaking with you,Rachel Fletcher: And thanks for listening. We're only one month (not even) into the second Trump administration, and word is we're in the midst of a “constitutional crisis”! So, set your hair on fire, clutch your pearls, and rage tweet!Of course, you know I don't think you should do that.Google Trends indicates that the term “constitutional crisis” really peaked only in the last couple of weeks, and largely peaked in the Washington DC metro area. Outside the Beltway, the term has not gained that much traction. Why? Are average Americans just that disconnected from the impending authoritarian takeover of the Trump-Musk cabal? Do they no longer value the checks and balances of the Constitutional order? No and no.In this episode, I'm going to walk you through the emergence of the “constitutional crisis” term and the narrative around it in the American media space. We'll take a look at how the term has been used, what it's being used to describe, and relevant historical parallels all in an effort to bring perspective and clarity to the “crisis of the moment” that is actually not much of a crisis. From The Archive - Online advertising can feel like navigating a dense forest without a map—especially for businesses trying to sell nationally without the resources of big-name competitors. That's why I invited Krystal Covington, to share her expertise. Originally released in September 2022, Krystal's tips are still relevant today. Together, we explored how businesses can use geo-targeting and smart collaborations to stretch their advertising dollars further and stand out in targeted markets. Here are the highlights of our conversation: Focus Your Efforts With Geo-Targeting Even for businesses that can sell anywhere, narrowing the focus to specific regions can make a big impact. Tools like Google Trends help identify where demand is strongest, allowing companies to allocate their budget effectively. For instance, a $500 geo-targeted ad campaign in high-interest areas can yield better results than a $3,000 national campaign competing against industry giants. Collaborations and Partnerships Pay Off Building "power partnerships" with complementary businesses can expand your reach without blowing your budget. From co-branded sweepstakes to shared promotions, partnerships allow you to tap into each other's audiences and grow your contact lists while creating mutual value. Creative Strategies for Audience Growth Krystal shared her experience using tools like Gleam.io to run contests that reward participants for actions like visiting websites, following social media accounts, or joining email lists. This approach not only engages audiences but also helps both partners grow their visibility in meaningful, measurable ways. Adapt These Strategies Locally or Nationally Whether you're targeting your hometown or a far-off market like Baltimore, the principles are the same. Find either local partners in your target area or collaborate with nearby businesses to enter new regions together.
Despite being around for nearly 100 years, pilates has never been so popular. As previously reported by Glossy, search volume for “pilates” was at an all-time high in January 2004, with small yearly spikes each January since. It wasn't until 2022 that search numbers topped those 2004 numbers before hitting an all-time in January 2023 and then again in January of 2024. However, searches have already topped 2024 numbers during the first week of the new year, according to Google Trends. The highest search numbers are coming from Australia, Singapore, New Zealand and the U.K. The U.S. ranks ninth for searches so far this year. Pilates is a low-impact strength and mobility training practice designed by Joseph Pilates in 1920s Europe to rehab injured WWI veterans. He developed its tenets on a machine crafted from bed springs and wooden boards, which later inspired the "reformer," a machine with straps and springs that's been evolved many times over for pilates practices today. Pilates is also taught on a yoga mat using hand weights, stretchy bands and other props. Partially fueled by celebrity devotees like Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, and propelled by viral fashion trends like 2024's #PinkPilatesPrincess, the exercise modality shows no signs of slowing in 2025. It's something that Australia-based Emma Stallworthy is betting on with 4-year-old pilates rental and digital class subscription company Your Reformer. The company is well-known in Australia and New Zealand markets and, as of September, has officially expanded to the U.S. with its signature $39-per-week in-home reformer bed rentals. They come with more than 800 high-quality training videos on a corresponding app. The company also sells its reformer beds to consumers as well as studios, gyms and hotels. Your Reformer is fully bootstrapped by Stallworthy and her husband and co-founder Ben. The duo started as gym owners in Melbourne. After renting out their gyms' reformer beds during the pandemic, thy sold their gyms and doubled down on this new business. Emma is also a pilates instructor. The company has nearly no competition for reformer rentals. Leaders in the space selling or financing equipment include Stott Pilates, Balanced Body and Merrithew. Your Reformer beds sell for around $2,500, while the reformer bed prices of the aforementioned manufacturers start at around $5,000. Outside of the rentals, the company's reformer sales and corresponding digital classes mak up a unique business model that is best compared to Peloton stationary bikes. Peloton gained massive popularity during the pandemic but later experienced financial distress that led to cuts and the replacement of its CEO in 2024, as reported by CFO Drive. Stallworthy joined the Glossy Beauty Podcast to discuss the company's growth and expansion to the U.S. in September, the secret sauce behind growing its digital class subscriptions, its beauty and wellness partnerships, and the overall rise of autonomous pilates classes.
