We'll be back with a whole new season of How God Works on March 9th. But in the meantime, we wanted to share shows from our archives that speak to some of the most pressing challenges we're all facing today. It's only February, and already this has been an intense year. So if you're feeling stressed today, how about… a breather? It's no accident that the Hebrew word for breath is the same as the word for spirit (ruach). Breath doesn't just give us life: it helps regulate everything from vital organ functions to cognition and emotional states. That's why spiritual traditions the world over incorporate it as a practice to help heal body and mind and walk the path towards peace.Join us as we explore the breath's connection to our nervous system with psychologist and neuroscientist Stephen Porges, creator of Polyvagal Theory. We'll also learn about the spiritual roots of breathwork and try out a few techniques with noted yoga, qigong and meditation teacher Amelia Barili.Learn more about Dr. Stephen Porges's work and Polyvagal Theory on his website, and be sure to check out his new book, co-authored with Seth Porges: Our Polyvagal World: How Safety and Trauma Change Us.Dr. Amelia Barili is faculty at the UCB Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and professor emerita from the University of California at Berkeley. Learn more about her work on her website and check out her YouTube channel the new paradigms. We also highly recommend the book Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art, by James Nestor.

It's time for another brand new episode of Can't Be Contained! Today, I'm honoured to be joined by author, breathwork facilitator, and founder of the Living Proof Institute, Sachin Patel! Sachin sits down with me this week to share his journey into the world of breathwork, which began with his Wim Hof training in 2018.    We discuss the holistic benefits of breathwork, including its impact on physical health, mental clarity, and emotional well-being. Together, Sachin and I delve into the science behind breathwork, as he highlights how it can aid in detoxification, improve metabolic health, and even assist with issues such as snoring or chronic pain. Our conversation touches on often overlooked contributors to quality of life, including stimulating the vagus nerve. These elements, when harnessed correctly can have profound effects on maintaining optimal health.    Sachin and I get into:  ➤ Identifying dysfunctional breathing ➤ Optimizing light exposure to our circadian rhythm ➤ Lung capacity as a predictor of lifespan   Though breathwork seems simple at first glance, it's an immensely sophisticated practice that holds tremendous power to impact one's everyday life. So whether you're simply looking to deepen your existing breathwork practice, or you're new to it altogether, Sachin has the wisdom you need to transform your health from the inside out!    So put those headphones on, breathe in, and listen.    And don't forget to check out the Pause Facilitator Training program, found HERE! The palate and tongue don't just affect things like eating and speaking. These parts of our bodies are central to health, and in this episode, we discuss the connection of how these parts of our mouth affect the growth and look of our entire face, how we breathe well (or not), if we have negative health outcomes like sleep apnea, and how it can contribute to behavioral problems like ADHD.This episode is sponsored by:Redmond Salt >> Click here and use code HEALTHYMOTHER to save 15% on your order.Needed >> Click here and use code HEALTHYMOTHER to save 20% off your first order.Resources from this episode:Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art, by James NestorHealthy as a Mother episode #12 A Deep Dive on Lip and Tongue TiesHealthy as a Mother episode #32: The Vital Importance of Baby's Position During Birth with Ann Gilligan, RN, LNC, RYPTLearn more about Dr. Dan Bruce at Boise Integrative DentistryThe ALF Approach: Changing the Face of Orthodontics, by Tasha Turzo-MooreMewing Habit Trainers to look into: Myobrace, Myomunchee, Vivos, Healthy StartDr Morgan's Natural Cold and Flu Remedies courseStay Connected With Us:Healthy As A Mother: www.healthyasamother.comInstagram: @healthyasamotherpodcastDr. Leah: www.womanhoodwellness.comInstagram: @drleahgordonDr. Morgan: www.milkmedicine.comInstagram: @morganmacdermott

It's a seismic shift that has the potential to fundamentally change the way we approach not only pediatric dental care, but total health for our children. Airway-centric dentistry focuses on the root causes and can address the underlying issues that lead to sleep apnea, snoring, sleep deprivation, and yes, cavities and tooth decay. Driven first by her intuition as a mother to children with chronic health issues, Dr. Lauren Ballinger, who is a board-certified pediatric dentist, was not satisfied by the traditional Western medicine options of addressing the symptoms. She knew there was a better way, and there was no going back. Dr. Lauren experienced what she describes as her "breakthrough," leaving her family's practice to take a great leap on a new venture: Good To Grow Airway Pediatric Dentistry. The approach is leading to excellent health outcomes for patients and she hopes the health and dental establishment will take the steps to support the growth of airway-centric dentistry within the dental community. In this episode we also cover: the fundamentals of the airway approach compared to the a symptom-based (tooth-focused) approach, the importance of breathing through the nose rather than the mouth, the importance for deep sleep for children and brain growth, the concept of increasing the boney border of an airway, the American Dental Association (ADA) gradually warming up to airway-centered dentistry, Dr. Lauren essentially reinventing her career at a time when many are considering their path to retirement, relearning from Native American traditions from the 18th century to improve airway health for children, and following her mission to truly help people the best way she knows how. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Lauren Ballinger, DDS, CSOM (certified specialist in orafacial myology).  Book references in this interview: Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor Shut Your Mouth and Save Your Life by George Catlin Dr. Lauren Ballinger is a Board Certified pediatric dentist who, after 15 years at her family's traditional pediatric dental practice, left to open her own practice to help prevent children's suffering - before it happens. Good to Grow Airway Centric Pediatric Dentistry and Frenectomy Center is a sanctuary for families everywhere. Good to Grow is completely devoted to proper airway and dental wellness, the prevention of disease, and true collaborative care amongst the childrens' doctors and family. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/john-krol/support

It's no accident that the Hebrew word for breath is the same as the word for spirit (ruach). Breath doesn't just give us life: it helps regulate everything from vital organ functions to cognition and emotional states. That's why spiritual traditions the world over incorporate it as a practice to help heal body and mind and walk the path towards peace. Join us as we explore the breath's connection to our nervous system with psychologist and neuroscientist Stephen Porges, creator of Polyvagal Theory. We'll also learn about the spiritual roots of breathwork and try out a few techniques with noted yoga, qigong and meditation teacher Amelia Barili. Learn more about Dr. Stephen Porges's work and Polyvagal Theory on his website, and be sure to check out his new book, co-authored with Seth Porges: Our Polyvagal World: How Safety and Trauma Change Us. Dr.

Think about it as 20% down, 20% down, 20% down. And maybe you're left with 40% to tackle this life. Imagine that you wake up every day and you're already with these obstacles, it's going to be a tough journey through self-transformation because you're going to have to face all this before you can move from that." - Pavel Stuchlik Are EMFs Toxic? "Think about EMFs as toxins. If you take enough toxins, it will kill you. And that's what Dr. Mercola is warning about that the EMFs are the new cigarettes and it's worse because you can't see it. Open wide everybody – today's episode takes us back into the mighty mouth for a special exploration of all things oral health with my own personal dentists and world class experts in the field, Drs. Stuart M. Nunnelly and Candice Owens. We're reminded of the stark truths about fluoride and modern dentistry before learning all about parasites, deleterious dead teeth, and the many serious risks presented by root canal procedures, the long list of which being the main reason why Drs. Nunnelly and Owens do not currently offer the otherwise widely accepted treatment at their practice here in Texas. But it's not all gloom, doom, and decay in this one. Their holistic approach to dentistry, steeped in the wisdom of two research legends which we give a nod to, is one we can all root for.
