This episode begins by explaining what causes this to happen even when you think you are taking in plenty of water. https://www.eatingwell.com/article/8034255/sneaky-reasons-youre-dehydrated-nothing-to-do-with-water/ Have you ever felt stuck? May you've felt stuck in a job or a relationship or maybe you are stuck trying to come up with a new idea. Sooner or later, we all feel stuck. Dr. Peter Attia visits Google to discuss his book "Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity.” The book is a guide to living better and longer, and reveals a new approach to preventing chronic disease and extending long-term health. For all its successes, mainstream medicine has failed to make much progress against the diseases of aging that kill most people: heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and type 2 diabetes. Too often, it intervenes with treatments that are too late to help, prolonging lifespan at the expense of healthspan, or quality of life. Dr. Attia believes we must replace this outdated framework with a personalized, proactive strategy for longevity, one where we take action now, rather than waiting. This is not “biohacking,” it's science: a well-founded strategic and tactical approach to extending lifespan while also improving our physical, cognitive, and emotional health. Dr. Attia's aim is less to tell you what to do and more to help you learn how to think about long-term health, in order to create the best plan for you as an individual. Aging and longevity are far more malleable than we think; our fate is not set in stone. With the right roadmap, you can plot a different path for your life, one that lets you outlive your genes to make each decade better than the one before. Vedran preporučuje knjige: Material World: A Substantial Story of Our Past and Future, Ed Conway (pijesak, sol, bakar, željezo, nafta, litij) The Perfect Weapon: War, Sabotage, and Fear in the Cyber Age, David Sanger (cyber) This Is How They Tell Me The World Ends, Nicole Perlorth (cyber) The Coming Wave: Technology, Power, and the Twenty-First Century's Greatest Dilemma, Mustafa Suleyman (o revoluciji u kojoj smo sada) Off Menu: The Secret Science of Food and Dining, Nell McShane Wulfhart (samo Audible, jako zanimljivo za ekipu koja voli klopati) Dosta Adam Granta - Originals, Think Again (broadly, leadership) How the World Really Works: How Science Can Set Us Straight on Our Past, Present and Future, Vaclav Smil (facts, facts, facts :)) Chip War: The Quest to Dominate the World's Most Critical Technology, Chris Miller (a must za svakoga u tehnologiji) Never Finished: Unshackle Your Mind and Win the War Within, David Goggins (možda malo granična, ali jako dobra priča o pomicanju ljudskih granica, iako David Goggins ima jaaaaako puno problema kao osoba) Flying Blind: The 737 MAX Tragedy and the Fall of Boeing, Peter Robison (za napraviti Boeing 737 treba manje od 9 dana, a random fact, izvrsna knjiga o promjeni kulture i utjecaju toga; imam puno tih povezanih s avijacijom, tehnologijom etc, ali ova je nekako poslovno zanimljiva također) Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity, Peter Attia MD, Bill Gifford (najdraža mi knjiga 2023.) In our never-ending quest for the fountain of youth, people will try all sorts of gimmicks and products that promise eternal vitality and radiance. However, true longevity isn't about chasing fads - it's about understanding the science of how our bodies age and making lifestyle choices that promote healthspan as well as lifespan. My guest today is Bill Gifford, an author who has dedicated years to researching this fascinating topic. Bill has teamed up with Dr. Peter Attia to author the runaway hit called 'Outlive: The Science & Art of Longevity' - a manifesto that has sold over a million copies by redefining how we approach healthcare and pursue wellness over merely treating diseases." One of the book's central theses is that "The way we approach healthcare must undergo a fundamental shift from Medicine 2.0 to what they're calling Medicine 3.0. Medicine 2.0 is about diagnosing and treating illnesses, while Medicine 3.0 is about preventing disease and promoting wellness, ultimately extending not only lifespan, but also healthspan. Get ready to take some notes, because today's conversation will be a roadmap for taking charge of your longevity. For more podcasts, visit www.kathysmith.com/podcast.

Here at Empire Building, we're all about building a big business, and more importantly, a bigger life. So today we dive into how to live a big, long, healthy, robust life. We are talking Blue Zones.Blue Zones are parts of the world where people live the longest. Dan Buettner came up with the term while studying the places that have the highest life expectancy or with the highest proportions of people who reach age 100: Barbagia region of Sardinia; Ikaria, Greece; Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica; Seventh Day Adventists in Loma Linda California; and Okinawa, Japan. In this episode, we review the 9 daily habits that Dan identified across these communities. They are: Move naturally, have purpose, down shift, eat to 80% full, stick to a plant-based diet, drink alcohol moderately, belong to a community, put your family first, and find your circle of support. We dive into the details of each one and talk about how we can find space for them in our own lives as Empire Builders.Resources:Learn more at the Blue Zones Project Listen to Simon Sinek's podcast episode with Dan Buettner Read Peter Attia's book “Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity” Connect on Instagram:Seychelle Van Poole: @seychellevpSarah Reynolds: @sarahreynoldsojiWendy Papasan: @wendypapasanKymber Lovett-Menkiti: @kymbermenkitiTiffany Fykes: @tiffanyfykesProduced by NOVA Media

In this episode of the Books for Men podcast, host Douglas Vigliotti discusses the book Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity by Peter Attia, MD. Vigliotti explains that the book has gained tremendous popularity due to Attia's large following and widespread promotion, but in no way, does that lower the importance of the work itself. He describes Outlive as “required reading” for anybody serious about their health and well-being. Vigliotti clarifies that the book focuses on getting the most out of one's mind, body, and life—not becoming superhuman. He discusses Attia's philosophy of proactive healthcare, contrasting it with the reactive approach of traditional medicine, specifically in reducing the risk of the four horsemen: cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and metabolic disorders. Vigliotti highlights the uber-importance of exercise, sleep, and emotional and mental health in promoting longevity. He concludes by encouraging listeners to share the podcast, connect with him on Instagram @douglasvigliotti, and visit the website for more information. If you enjoyed this episode, please consider supporting the podcast. In this moment, longevity expert and author of ‘Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity', Dr Peter Attia discusses ‘Medicine 3.0'. Most people in today's world will die from lifestyle diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. In fact, Dr Attia says that our life expectancy hasn't greatly increased since the 1800s, medicine just means we don't die from infectious diseases. To live longer and better in our later years, Dr Attia says that we need a new playbook, or what he calls ‘Medicine 3.0'. This relies on taking preventative steps very early in life, as the risk of lifestyle diseases compound throughout our life. Dr Attia argues that while doctors practising traditional medicine are very aware of the risk of doing certain treatments, but often ignore the cost of not taking action to prevent future problems. Dr Attia believes that too often we worry about our health too late in life, when the problems start and the risk of taking action is higher. Instead, he argues, that if we take action when we are younger we have so much potential to change the trajectory of our lives. He says that we should start worrying about our future health now, and should think about it the same way as we think about saving for retirement, if we invest now we will thank ourselves later. Imagine yourself in the last decade of your life. What would you like to be able to do? I'm talking about the simple stuff, such as walking up a flight of stairs without losing your breath or picking up your grandchild. How about being able to stand up unaided, after sitting comfortably on the floor? Or simply being able to get yourself on and off the toilet with ease? It's so easy to assume these everyday movements will still be easy when we're old. But my guest this week wants us to get real to the fact they probably won't – unless we take action now.Dr Peter Attia is a medical doctor and founder of the Early Medical Practice, a private clinic in America, which helps patients lengthen their lifespan and improve their ‘healthspan'. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller: Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity. In our first conversation (Ep 356) Peter explained how years of research have shown him that physical activity is the number one predictor of longevity. In this new episode, we unpack what that means and what strategies you can use to live a long and healthy life.Peter explains a concept that he calls the Centenarian Decathlon – a novel, but specific way of thinking about the various forms of movement we might require IF we want to be strong, fit, and active in our later years. He explains you need to be a good generalist with a high peak cardiorespiratory fitness, a wide aerobic base, functional strength, and good levels of stability, and why each of those metrics is important and how we can start improving them.If you're in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s – then training today for your twilight years might seem too distant a goal to feel motivating. If you're active now, it's easy to think you'll be fine by then. But, Peter says, you're kidding yourself if you think that your day-to-day function will not decline, as you get older. And, so he wants to empower us and demonstrate what we need to do today, to ensure we will have the life we want later. We also cover resistance training, Zone 2 training, grip strength, and foot strength, training for teenagers, training for women around menopause and so much more. This is an insightful episode, full of practical advice and wisdom. I hope you enjoy listening.Support the podcast and enjoy Ad-Free episodes. We spend too much of our health care focus on lifespan and not enough on healthspan--the quality of our life as we get older. So argues Dr. Peter Attia, author of Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity. Attia speaks with EconTalk's Russ Roberts about what kills us, what slows us down as we age, and the weapons we have to allow us to live better and longer.
In this journal club episode, my guest is Stanford and Johns Hopkins-trained physician, Dr. Peter Attia, M.D., who is also the host of The Drive podcast and the author of the bestselling book "Outlive: The Science & Art of Longevity." We each present a scientific paper and discuss the findings' strengths, weaknesses and actionable takeaways. First, we discuss an article that addresses whether taking the drug metformin can enhance longevity. Then, we discuss an article on belief effects (similar to placebo effects), showing how the effects of a drug on the brain and cognition depend on one's belief about the dose of the drug taken, not the actual dose. Our conversation also highlights how to read, interpret and critique scientific studies. This episode ought to be of interest to those curious about health and longevity, medicine and psychology and for anyone seeking to better understand how to read and digest scientific findings. Most of us want to stay alive — and healthy — for as long as possible. But how to actually do that, given all the obstacles? What advice should we listen to? How do we find the time and motivation to follow it? And how do we do so without succumbing to what has been called the “subtle aggression of self improvement”?Today, we are launching an ambitious three-week series to tackle these questions. We are bringing on top experts from science and Buddhism who will talk about how to eat better, exercise smarter, and extend your lifespan. Guest number one is Dr. Peter Attia. He has trained at Stanford University, Johns Hopkins, and the National Institutes of Health. He's the host of a popular health and fitness podcast called The Drive and the author of a new book called Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity. In this episode we talk about:Why Peter kind of hates the word ‘longevity'The definitions of ‘lifespan' and ‘healthspan'–and what we can do in five key areas to increase bothThe importance of exercise, including what types of exercise to do, how to measure your fitness, and how even a little bit of weekly exercise can go a very long wayThe roles our genes play in our lifespan and our healthspanThe importance of nutrition, including Peter's top tips, his personal evolution, and his take on intuitive eatingHow to get better sleep (and when to stop tracking it)How to think about pharmaceutical tools, incl. a discussion of how to make sense of the crowded and unregulated supplement marketThe importance of emotional health, including a raw story from Peter about how he came to understand the importance of mental health, and why he believes tending to your emotional health makes all of the other health levers easier to pull.Full Shownotes: https://www.tenpercent.com/tph/podcast-episode/dr-peter-attia-608See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
