The topic is about merchant codes, and how states like California and New York are potentially looking at tracking them for firearm retailers so they can track that you bought a firearm. The problem with this is with retailers like Bass Pro, it would be almost impossible to track whether you bought a firearm or an item like a boat when using merchant codes, so it would be an incredibly hard thing to do. Hard rain, on and off lighting, and high winds made for a somewhat miserable hunt. Group after group checked out the spread until finally a group came close enough to shoot at. We pulled up to shoot and Brayden finally got to kill his first duck! He apparently was in squirrel city, every direction he looked it was squirrel, squirrel, squirrel! Brayden waited for a while and eventually had a couple deer swing through by him. Today's show opens up with Brad diving into his recent ground hunting adventures. He saw 8 deer in a couple hours but unfortunately most of them were outside of bow range. The odd thing is the two small bucks were fighting in January, which is definitely odd for this part of the country! He thought about making a stalk on them while they were tied up but decided not to make the push. The deer are showing back up to the property now but very sporadically, with the season winding down he's on the clock to put a deer on the ground this season. We then swap over to Brayden who tells us all about an interesting deer trip. He went back to a stand where he killed a couple deer earlier this season. With an injured shoulder he decided to use Phil's crossbow to make this bow hunt a little easier for him. With a very deery morning deer activity was almost assured. Today's show opens up with Brad going over his recent weekend hunting. It's been quite slow with only one older mature buck on camera, and hardly any deer moving during daylight hours! He decided to give a hunt a go anyway but unfortunately it was very slow, besides the fact that a whole bus load of squirrels decided to play tag around his stand. His biggest problem is that he has absolutely no cover at all in the tree he's in, which has made his spot very difficult to hunt. Today's show opens up with Brad diving into his recent trip to Kentucky to visit family and do a little gun hunting. He starts out with his morning headed up the mountain in his car, where he quickly ran out of cell reception. He headed in and took a separate route than he normally would, when all of a sudden he started getting a no oil warning on his car! He made a quick loop back downhill but lost power on the way, so he had no other choice but to start downhill on foot! Today's show opens with Dan diving into his recent camping and hunting trip to Land Between the Lakes. He has been scouting this place all Fall leading up to the opener of rifle season with quite a few really nice bucks on camera. He covers his entire trip including what deer he saw and why he passed on certain ones. Today's show opens with Arica's recent hunting expenditures. It's been a little slow go but on a recent hunt for the first time ever she heard a buck grunting coming through the woods. Heart pounding excitement kicked in as she heard him coming closer through the woods. A doe walked right past her so she's super excited waiting on this buck to come right through where the doe did. The buck grunting edges closer through the woods and finally comes to light – unfortunately it's a button buck!! Next up Brayden talks about his recent hunting trip with Phil on a private farm that really just wants them to take some deer off of it. After tree hopping for a while he finally got settled in when not long after he got a text from Phil that a buck was coming across the field. Brayden drug some Tink's 69 on the way in and Phil's buck came in right on a line following the trail. Phil let an arrow fly on this buck and got a good blood trail to start with. Unfortunately, it started to dry up as the trail went on, all the way up to a neighboring property. He let it set overnight and after connecting with the land owner next door he continued his search but unfortunately came up empty handed. Jacob covers a whole week of outdoor stories that he's had the pleasure to collect here lately. His first story goes in depth of him chasing whitetail during bow season. The absolute perfect scenario comes to fruition with a really nice 8-point working a scrape line directly up to him. Today's show opens with us talking about gear searching on GunBroker.com. Dan daydreams about a new .30-.30 that he's had his eyes on for a while. We talk about maintenance for our outdoor equipment for this upcoming hunting season, it can get pretty expensive quickly if you're not careful! Brad talks about putting time in behind the bow in preparation for his upcoming hunting season, he had to swap out his sight but he's still shooting pretty consistent groups out to 30 yards which is as far as he'll be shooting on his hunting spot. Brad's new hunting spot is a tree farm that has some positive outlook for this season, almost like clockwork every afternoon at 6:00 PM it's a deer party! Brad's first day in the stand was a super interesting one, deer were absolutely everywhere all evening. Brayden loves taking youth out hunting and really believes it's one of the most rewarding things you can do as an outdoorsman although he does have a few spots that are off limits for the newbies! Derek talks about not shooting the first buck he sees in Kentucky, with only one buck tag he'd like to draw his season out. However, he has been kept pretty busy lately with waterfowl, bear, and whitetail in other states that may change for this season. He talks about his upcoming bear and deer hunt in Tennessee that he has been scouting for all summer long. We open up with Jacob telling us about his first day in the woods which didn't go exactly as planned. Running late to the woods it seemed like everything was being thrown at him. He tells us about driving through a complete downpour that eased up right as he pulled into the woods, unfortunately it caught up to him and unfortunately ruined the entire hunt so instead he pulled the plug and decided to wait until the next day.   Next up Brayden goes in depth on his saddle setup for this upcoming season. He covers his new pack for carrying in his saddle equipment. He completely changed his setup for this season with a unique way to carry his climbing sticks in so they aren't constantly in the way which allows him to go in with a smaller pack. He then dives into going over getting his bow back after being completely restrung this summer. He needed to shoot his bow around a hundred times before the final fine tune, can you guys guess how many times he shot it on the first day out? Let's just say..mistakes were made. The second time out he realized a major difference in his bow that could've caused some really serious issues if not fixed before season! Crisis majorly averted.   Dan covers another trip scouting to Land Between the Lakes in Western Kentucky. He saw a good bit of deer sign but not a ton of rubs or scrapes in his first location to scout. The second spot looked a little more promising and he felt very good about it.  In this week's [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we talk all about the upcoming deer season, it's definitely crunch time. Brayden talks about moving trail cameras to new spots to hopefully catch some real big mature whitetails coming through to hopefully pattern before season opener. Jacob speaks on his recent trip to Toccoa River in Georgia that he cannot recommend enough for a fun fishing trip. He fished both the upper and lower parts of Lake Blue Ridge catching some nice trout while wading in abnormally shallow water that he couldn't quite figure out why the fish were hanging out in it. The next day he goes on a float trip with a group of guys, and it was absolutely painfully slow. Pro-tip make sure you float when the dam is turned on to make the trip go at a decent speed.  Wrapping up the episode Dan updates us on his upcoming total eclipse plans for next year after searching high and low for a reasonable AirBnB. His awesome plans include being on a kayak in the middle of the lake for the eclipse, talk about an awesome experience! In this week's [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we talk about our recent fishing trip to North Carolina with Jason from Timber Ninja Outdoors. We made a quick dash to North Carolina, arriving at the campsite at night where a whole can of worms was opened. Did we mention that it was wet? They had a LOT to learn about bowfishing because it turns out normal bow shooting doesn't translate over very well. We rented an AirBnB, ate like kings, attended Walleye Fest, and had a blast. We motored up to Canadian waters and saw a ton of boats but still managed to catch piles of fish. This may not be hunters or anglers doing it and it's not the fault of the state wildlife agency; so who is creating these messes and what can we do about it? Arica took her kids pond fishing and they got into some panfish. They're planning a trip up to Michigan and are hoping to target pike, bass, and more. School gets out soon and they'll be camping hard until the end of summer. Dan Johnson from Sportsmen's Empire raises a great question about kids' age and camping: how young is too young to take a big trip to somewhere like Yellowstone? At a young age, are they able to get around and will they even remember it? Can you train and condition kids to prepare for a big trip and long hikes? In this week's [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we wrapped up our turkey hunting season. Arica got out again. She did some yelping, scouted around, had some hens come in, and heard a few gobbles. She tried to work the hens wondering if they would get the gobblers to follow. How do deer and turkey use different senses? How important is a locator call for finding longbeards? Why do turkeys shock gobble? Brayden and Phil got back out on their private piece. They had some birds on camera and gave it one final shot. They fooled with some hens but didn't find any toms. In this week's [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we've got a special guest with Chris Powell of Houndsman XP. We talk a little bit about our turkey season and Chris mentions he does some traditional flintlock hunting. Several of us are currently reading “The Frontiersman” by Allen W. Eckert, and we compare how tough traditional hunters were and how soft the modern hunter has become. We also get into a few tidbits of classic American history, including a bunch about Daniel Boone and local Kentuckiana lore.  While we're on the subject of American history, we talked to Chris about hunting dogs. The settlers used dogs for everything from hunting big game to defending against attackers, but these hounds were a little different than the ones we see today. In this week's [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we start off very uncensored and share some of our silly nicknames … find out how Arica got herself some extra unwanted attention on a forum years ago. She went turkey hunting after spotting a few birds on her property. She slipped in and did some calling but the tom was henned up and wouldn't break away … or so she thought. He came back on his own a little later on and she put the stalk on him but he got away from her again. She leaned on her calling and got him talking and then she set the call down. He gobbled a bunch but never came back in. She got one more chance and got close but may have spooked him. Brayden and Phil have continued to get after it exploring a ton of ground but are having trouble getting a bird to commit. They've been finding birds but encountering some challenging scenarios. Dan Johnson is back on and gives some great advice for how/when you can get more aggressive when getting under roosted turkeys. We talk about some other late season tactics as the hunting gets tougher.  Jacob got out and got aggressive too but it backfired on him. He accidentally set up too close to roosted birds and had to make a move to spin around but got busted by two toms. He moved into another spot but this time ran into a deer and a turkey that scattered away hard. It was a tough way to end his season, but now he's confident next year will be better because he knows where the birds are hanging out. We also tease out some ideas of how you might be able to work a bird that was scared away. Arica found a deer fawn in her yard. This is pretty early so the team ponders the whole sequence of the rut and poses some thought provoking questions. How can trail cams help predict peak rut? We close the show with some random silliness. What is Derby pie? We all share our favorite pie and ice cream flavors. We talk about some of the etiquette when encountering other groups and how to make strategic changes of plans when hunting public grounds. In this week's [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we're continuing our talks about turkey hunting. This time, Dan, Chris, and Jacob got out on a public piece. They heard some gobbles and had a nice setup but ran into some issues with other hunters. They finished the day with some scouting and got a great lead for where to set up next time. We talk about etiquette when hunting turkeys on public land and how to handle other groups in the woods. Sometimes it's better to have a chat and work together. How do you adapt and adjust when Plan A falls apart? We swap a few stories of the good, bag, and ugly on this troublesome topic. We also discuss some of the key differences between hunting public and private land.  Brayden got out again and hunted an area he's seen turkeys with lots of good sign. They were getting into their setup and then he realized he forgot one major item at home! They changed plans and managed to bring in a bird in the end, but didn't punch the tag. They set up under a widowmaker and had a lively chance encounter with a woodpecker. How effective is scratching and scraping for bringing in turkeys? Derek mentions a hot tip for where to find turkeys late-morning/mid-day after other hunters have been pushing them around. He got out and heard a lot of birds talking in the trees. It's a tough spot to get in and set up but he made it work. He got a group to come in, they made a ton of noise but ended up getting hung up. He talks through the decision-making process and how to handle a multi-bird situation. He's still struggling with something from that hunt … is it better to move slowly and quietly when a bird is close or move so quick it won't have time to understand what's happening?
