It takes a lot of dedication, hard work and patience to make it in a saturated hunting industry filled with online content creators. There are different avenues many follow during their own growth, and some are better than others. This week our host Sam dives into the mindset of a Brand Ambassador in the outdoor industry. The key takeaways from this episode include setting you and/or your brand apart, developing and cultivating quality relationships, building trust and authenticity, and certainly what NOT to do along the way. Sam views the Brand Ambassador from the perspective of both the creator and the organization and highlights the importance to representing both your affiliates and hunting in general with respect. If you have the words "Brand Ambassador", "Field Staff" or "Pro Staff" next to your name, or if you are thinking about representing an organization in such a capacity, then this is a must listen. Hans and Jason have dedicated their professional lives to the night vision and thermal industry, as well as the the broader night hunting world. Spending so many days, months and years immersed in the industry and sport, they are always looking for ways to make things better, solve problems or simplify things. Today they offer a short wish lists of a few things they'd like to see changed or improved. While this list is by no means all encompassing, it does detail a few of the larger areas where improvement could be made. And while none of these things are simple fixes and likely won't be implemented any time soon, it's still worth discussing them and hopefully some ears are listening in positions that can help make positive changes over time. In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, we bring on special guest Michael Waddell to talk a little bit about the evolution of the hunting industry. Michael's journey began with Realtree years ago where he'd travel and film hunts. It wasn't long until the passion took him to creating Bone Collector and becoming one of the biggest hunting personalities we all know. After being involved in the hunting space for so many years, a lot has changed. From adapting to the new ways of outdoor content or the evolution of hunting whitetails, we thought what better person to talk to than Michael Waddell. We hope you enjoy this episode. It's our somewhat-regular "Industry Insiders" edition, where I talk with leaders and up-and-comers about the business of bird hunting, their company, new products and tech. We also get their advice on taking care of our gear, our dogs, and ourselves. Oh, and these guys are also experts on bird hunting so expect some valuable tips. This week, Fred Bohm of Sage & Braker talks new gun care gear, field-care for our shotguns, and desert quail hunting. This guy lives in the hotbed, Southern Arizona, and earned his spurs by climbing the hills and battling the cholla cactus for elusive Mearns, Gambel's and scaled quail. Phil Francone is the president and founder of Meindl USA, bringing that legacy brand of boots to America. Phil helps us with everything from fitting boots and breaking them in, to care for this most important component of your hunting ensemble. He also spills the beans on a brand-new boot model. "Handle It" covers some helpful puppy-care stuff you may not have thought about, and you listeners weigh in with how your dogs are doing so far this season. And it's all brought to you by Sage & Braker Mercantile, Pointer shotguns, LandTrust.com, @midwayusa, #midwayusa, Midway USA, Mid Valley Clays and Shooting School, TrulockChokes, HiViz shooting systems, Purina Pro Plan Sport and FindBirdHuntingSpots.com.
Today's show opens with us talking about the upcoming cold front creeping in. We all can not wait until the weather is dropping and we'll all be in the woods as soon as possible. Hopefully the coming dip in temperature makes the big deer move. We then pivot to Brad telling us about his recent podcasting experience with Matt Rinella. Him and Matt sit down to debate social media and its place in the hunting industry. One of the biggest discussions they had was over land usage in both private and public land. Listen in to this episode Sponsored by GunBroker.com to hear Brad dive into some of the topics he covered during his time on the podcast with Matt Rinella. Brad talks about the power of social media in the outdoor industry. While it can definitely be shown in an unfavorable light he believes social media plays a huge role in educating non-hunters about hunting. Anti-hunting groups have become experts in social media and using it against the hunting industry oftentimes leading the general population wrong by using catchy content to sway uninformed people their direction. We talk about how we can get people into hunting without having to post grip and grin photos after a successful hunt. How do you guys feel about social media use when related to hunting? Make sure to check out this episode to listen to our conversation on keeping the hunting industry in good favor with the non-hunting public. Chuck and the CC crew have talked ad nauseam about how things are going in the hunting world. Now that we have done this for over 20 years combined we have seen the ebbs and flows but the state of the industry right now is.......how do you say...off. It is at a crossroads. There is nowhere for good content to live and the content that is out there is throw away content. On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Charmaine Leath, an outdoorswoman whose passion for the outdoors led her to make a name for herself in the outdoor industry and has allowed her to hunt and fish all over the world. Charmaine is based out of Southwest Colorado but hunts and fishes worldwide. She grew up in a small oilfield town in New Mexico, spending most of her childhood with horses and in the outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping. After graduating she moved around the country working as a medical aesthetician and fiddled with photography. She would make yearly tips home to hunt and fish with her dad but ended up settling down in a small country town in Colorado in her late 20s which is when she really dove deep into making her outdoor dreams come true. Charmaine didn't come from money and didn't have an “in” in the outdoor industry. Despite not having a connection she dove in feet first. She already had an eye and love for photography and she wanted to partner and represent companies whose passion and desire she could align with and whose gear and values matched hers. Her first partnership was with SKRE Gear and from there she continued to grow in the outdoors gaining more brands, sponsorships, traveling and hunting more and working expos and events.
