On this weekly episode, I had to come to terms with the fact that I was a very controlling person. This has been a personal struggle over the years. I had to ask myself why I have such a strong desire to control things and why I am so controlling when I am in relationships. Balance means that we can fully engage in what we need or want to do without that guilt or worry. We have to truly understand our own boundaries and needs so that we have the freedom to pursue all the various roles and identities we have or want to have in life. I had my first major surgery seven days before my thirty-fourth birthday. Often, we talk about the physical pain, But the mental duress was very intense. Being injured and working through the recovery process. There are days when I am exhausted, frightened, and frustrated. When I got home, I felt isolated, depressed, angry, fearful, sad, and ashamed. On this weekly episode, Reacting is a bit different from responding. reacting is instinctive and, reciprocal I struggled when I was a teenager and young adult, having extreme episodes of anger and rage. As I grew, I began to develop the ability to respond. Responding, while technically a reaction, takes into consideration the desired outcome of the interaction. A reaction is about the moment, whereas a response is about the outcome. “Do or do not; there is no try.” Yoda. We do not try, "trying" allows one to lack investment, shows a lack of confidence, and allows a person to be devoid of ownership. Lastly, who taught you about money? are you living check to check? On this weekly episode, If we look back at human evolution and skill-building, there's one thing that's made us evolve, build new skills, and create new habits exceptionally quickly, and that's the fear of being killed. We are no longer the hunted, and since we have sat on the top of the food chain, have we become overly complacent? A 2020 study asked 61 participants to abstain from social media for a week. They report a significant increase in mental well-being and social connectedness after the period of abstinence. Is social media, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram the new drug? Keeping us from sleeping and creating depression, fear, and anxiety, we all need to take a significant break! On this weekly episode, Does your value align with your goals? Playing sports or being in the Military values are always drilled into your head. However, things are changing so quickly. I have now made it a point to ensure that I keep internally checking with myself. Determining that my values are the driving force of my goals. Keeping these two in unity belief will help me with my daily self-discipline. I wake up at 4:30 am on the weekday, and it is not for the weak. However, I have strong credence that your 1st battle of wills every morning is honoring that alarm and waking up and getting your day started. If change is forced upon you, you must resist the temptation to overreact or feel sorry for yourself. Robert Greene. How often do you feel that life is unfair? That something happened that you think should not have happened to you? it is ideal to blame others, but I love the practice of absolute accountability. A Date is a form of courtship, consisting of social activities done by the couple, either alone or with others. There are many versions of dating. The average date cost $97.67. Do we always need to go out to eat? Do the men have to pay? How has online dating affected traditional dating? I aim to eat an elephant beetle first thing, every day, meaning conquering the most challenging, least desirable task first thing in the morning, so I feel a sense of achievement. Why do we wait until the last minute to complete our work in school and work? We do wait all week not writing the paper only to stay up all night drinking several red bulls to turn it on at the 11:59 pm limit? Facts over Feelings. On this weekly episode, natural selection and ‘survival of the fittest,' does it still play a dominant role? There was a time when only the strongest could survive in the wild. Is the quote still true despite the fact that it has been hindered for years due to our greatest fear of being food for wild animals? Nowadays, with the availability of better healthcare, food, heating, and hygiene the number of ‘hazards' we experience in our lives has dramatically reduced. With technology leading the way, my biggest pondering is are we adapting to it in such a way that our humanity is becoming an afterthought. According to Yale researchers, 26 percent of American adults admit to not having read even part of a book within the past year.  Reading is a love of mine that has been nurtured since I was a child. During the summer break, my mother would require one book to be read with a written or verbal book report in order to go outside and play. Reading has so many benefits such as: Mental Stimulation, Stress Reduction, Knowledge, Vocabulary Expansion, Memory Improvement and, Tranquility. There is a phrase that is so common; you may have heard it twice last week, ‘Know thyself!' The phrase has a serious philosophical pedigree: Self-knowledge is important for one's central reason: because it offers us a route to greater happiness and fulfillment. A lack of self-knowledge leaves you open to mishaps and mistaken ambitions. Armed with the right sort of self-knowledge, we have a greater chance of avoiding errors in our dealings with others and in the formulation of our life choices. On this weekly episode, we honor the 1st episode of 2022. As the new year starts, it brings with it a feeling of retrospection. Generally, reflection is a process of exploring and examining ourselves, our perspectives, attributes, experiences, actions, and interactions. It helps us gain insight and see how to move forward. 2021 has passed and as I look back, I am able to stand proud of some of my accomplishments. Naturally, there are also faults and shortcomings that I seek to improve. I'm striving to improve upon 2021, learning from my mistakes while not being hypocritical of my errors. As I reflect, one of my biggest areas for improvement is having empathy for the feelings and emotions of others. I yearn to gain the virtue of acceptance. Being more comfortable with allowing others to have a right to be their own unique, personal view is one of my personal goals this year...Growing to encompass the ability to respectfully observe others as they experience and process their own feelings, thoughts, and opinions. Resisting the urge to change them into the person I want them to be but instead to accept them for who they are. #Westsideonmines is one of my most-used catchphrases... and it means so many things. On this weekly episode, We all have emotional needs. But what exactly is the definition of an emotional need? Emotional needs are feelings or conditions we need to feel happy, fulfilled, or at peace. Without them, we may feel frustrated, hurt, or dissatisfied. Some examples of emotional needs might include feeling appreciated, feeling accomplished, feeling safe, or feeling part of a community. As humans, we seek emotional nourishment as much as food and water. However, I often wonder if it is indeed a birthright to be emotionally nourished. We are currently 4 days always from Thanksgiving. Turkey, Stuffing, Mac and Cheese, Ham, Deviled Eggs, Gravy, Apple Pie, Sweet Potato Pie, Pumpkin Pie oooo MY! The holiday season is advertised as a festive time of the year filled with parties, celebrations, and social gatherings with family and friends. For many people, it is a time filled with sadness, self-reflection, loneliness, and anxiety. Depression may occur at any time of the year, due in large part to stress and anxiety accompanied with the months of November and December may cause even those who are usually content to experience loneliness and a lack of fulfillment.“A spiritual practice is a constant battle within, replacing previous negative conditioning or habituation with new positive conditioning.” Dalai Lama. If we were to be completely honest with ourselves the foundation of most of our issues in life is the byproduct of our self-destructive behavior. Self-destructive behaviors provide relief or even pleasure in the short term but ultimately get in the way of living a life that feels satisfying and fulfilling. Self-destructive behavior may be intentional or subconscious, impulsive or planned. On this weekly episode, The level of success you see in your life has a direct result of your belief system. I'm not talking about religion or philosophy here. Sport, Business, Personal Life self-confidence is vital. We all have talent, skills, training, and tools however these alone will not change one's life. I believe one of the most vital factors is one's ability to overcome obstacles. Is one's self-confidence. Self-work is the fundamental foundation for self-confidence. Ben Simmons believes the Philadelphia 76ers' recent actions are exacerbating his mental health issues, and that the team wants to deem him fit to force him to play, regardless of what he tells the team's mental health therapist. Does Ben Simmons have the right to want to be paid while he is unfit to fulfill his contractual obligations with the 76ers? Why do sensible and rational people seem to lose the ability to act sensibly and rationally when they are in conflict? On this weekly episode, we look at the contrast between good and bad decisions. In a biblical sense, we must atone for these transgressions. This is why bad decisions have such a great cost in comparison with decisions. The bad or poor decisions often alter our path of life in a profound way in comparison with wise decisions. Life is not linear. It doesn't always make sense and expecting a logical progression is folly, especially in the world we live in today. We don't have a set of directions or a secret map that tells us what to do or where to go. Our paths are winding and filled with forks. Sex is an Art. On this 50th episode, I would like to express much gratitude. Thank you for being such amazing listeners. Thank you for allowing me to express my thoughts and beliefs. Less is more but how can this be, We live in a more more world. The ideology can pretty confusing. After all, the words less and more are antonyms: They're one another's the literal opposite. So how could less be more?! We all would like more. More money, more clothes, more gadgets. But could less of something a smaller amount can at times be more beneficial than a large amount of it? There is a beauty within simplicity, how better is such an approach in comparison to one that is more complicated. When is the last time you played? When was the last time you enjoyed a game of tag, when is the last you got on the court, or field, or table? When was the last time you enjoyed a game that you fell in love with as a child? Play has been shown to release endorphins, improve brain functionality, and stimulate creativity. And it can even help to keep us young and feeling energetic. Studies show that play improves memory and stimulates the growth of the cerebral cortex. Do you add value to those around you? Is this a question we ask ourselves often enough? What is value? On this weekly episode, The power of No Wielded wisely, No is an instrument of integrity and a shield against exploitation. It often takes courage to say. It is hard to receive. But setting limits sets us free. No that is an affirmation of self implicitly acknowledges personal responsibility. It says that while each of us interacts with others, and loves, respects, and values those relationships, we do not and cannot allow ourselves always to be influenced by them. The strength we draw from saying No is that it underscores this hard truth of maturity: We are human and we all have limits. No one likes to fail, and that makes perfect sense. Failure doesn't feel good, and it usually costs us a sizable chunk of money, time, and dignity. On top of that, comebacks are exhausting. Here's the thing, though: to some degree, failure is an inevitable part of life. Whether they're big or small, none of us can avoid experiencing setbacks from time to time and that's OK. In fact, it's more than just OK to fail it's necessary. Cognitive distortions are biased perspectives we take on ourselves and the world around us. They are irrational thoughts and beliefs that we unknowingly reinforce over time. These patterns and systems of thought are often subtle–it's difficult to recognize them when they are a regular feature of your day-to-day thoughts. That is why they can be so damaging since it's hard to change what you don't recognize as something that needs to change! On this weekly episode, we celebrate the 5th Anniversary of my father's death. The act of dying is equal in all… Death has no degrees of greater or less; for it has the same limit in all instances, the finishing of life.” Seneca. If we all are going to die and there is nothing that can prevent us from this. What should we do? Should we fight it? Try to run from it? How about we live a life that impacts the world and community around us much longer than the time we have on this earth. Complacency destroys progress. It is one of the only things you can do that cannot be justified into achieving your goal of any kind. Lately, I have been feeling burnt out dealing with work and life but recently I had a meeting with myself and realized that I have become Complacent. This is a dangerous virus that we all struggle with within our day-to-day life. Do you drive and text, how about working on several tasks at the same time? When is the last time you give a task 100% of your focus and attention? Multitasking reduces your efficiency and performance because your brain can only focus on one thing at a time. When we try to do two things at once, our brain lacks the capacity to perform both tasks successfully. Research also shows that, in addition to slowing us down, multitasking lowers our IQ. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it. Why does power corrupt us and how do we acquire power without losing our true self? Techs can create an illusion where our minds swelled into thinking something they are not. We all want to be popular and influential "posting" something on social media and receiving praise and affirmation can be inflated alter our personality, pride can swell withinside of us and the praise of peers can become a hunger that can never quite be sustained. Are we headed to a delusional tech-based society? Lastly, at its most basic definition, failure is a lack of success. Failure can take on many shapes and forms. This kind of love helps drive the shorter relationships but not the longer ones." Creative expression amplifies three significant components Sensation, Emotion, and Knowledge. Creativity is known to decrease depression. Studies in the field of psychological research suggest that engaging in artistic activities significantly decreased negative emotions experienced at a given time, and ultimately reduced depressive episodes. “Creativity offers a release for stress hormones, and for tangled up cognitive and emotional experience.” There's an Arab proverb that states that you should write the bad things that happen to you in the sand so that they can be easily erased from your memory. On this weekly episode, "For everything, there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to break down, and a time to build up, a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak." - King Solomon. A pastor asked us this question on what is the purpose. Is it somthing grand or it is the small moments in our lives each and every day. How does one make seeking and walking in purpose a daily practice? Love isn't always communicated in ways we understand or can respond to. Being able to clearly express why someone is important to us is an important skill to have in any relationship. It is easy to assume that the people we care about already know how much we appreciate them. Living in this mentality, we risk falling into the trap of never expressing the meaningfulness and value a loved one adds to our lives. YES, I am talking about words of Affirmation. Lastly, When we let go, we create space for something new to happen. It's like having a closet of clothes and shoes, things you no longer use or need. Do you even know what's in there? It's essential to stop and take stock of what you really need emotionally, psychologically, physically, and spiritually. On this weekly episode, we reflect on how we are ‘always-on' and how our daily lives are always moving, there is a constant demand to be always busy and to be seen to be busy, and responding to everything immediately, and getting tasks done straight away. It can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed. There is a massive difference between being busy and productive. While the power of Starbucks and energy drinks help us feel like we have an endless amount of energy. We are not designed to always be busy. Our weight fluctuates day-to-day, and daily weighing can lead to discouragement, stress and, quitting of diet and fitness regiment. When we see a higher number on the scale than we saw the day before. Weighing ourselves once a month is a great way to ensure we are staying on track while becoming lost within our fitness journey. Decades of history have shown, though, that although we consider ourselves to be highly rational decision-makers. We are pretty irrational in our decision-making. We aren't so good at figuring out what we want. Our preferences aren't very stable or coherent. We're bad at assessing risks and rewards. On this weekly episode, Progress Theory is the idea that people are motivated by taking steps forward on a consistent basis even if those steps are relatively small in the big picture. This is very true in my time in the US Army during the days of Basic Training, it made me reflect on my children and how I could ask them to clean up but after picking up one thing they would want me to look. After a few words of affirmation, they would happily go back to cleaning. If we have always done things a certain way, it can be difficult to identify a better way to get things done. An outsider's perspective can breathe fresh life and insight into our thinking. In fact, it often takes someone with a different point of view to recognize opportunities for change and strategic advantage. Their perspective can help us to draw different meanings and conclusions from the same set of facts. Lastly, Backward Planning is a process that educators use to design learning experiences and instructional techniques to achieve specific learning goals. One of the biggest factors that determine whether we are successful is effective time management. Without great time management, failure is common. Backward planning lets us know when we need to get started, and also gives timing points along the way to let us know if we need to adjust our plan in order to things done when. We are creatures of habits and when we make a practice giving minimum effort we will fail when maximum effort is required. Words are more powerful than you can imagine, so it is important to choose them wisely. They have the ability to carry us to far-off, amazing places. The words we use, especially when spoken repeatedly, can deepen our feelings and ultimately become our experience. The illusion of control is a cognitive bias that leads us to assume that we have complete control over the outcome of a situation in an instance where we do not. On this weekly episode, we discuss the impact and benefits of volunteering. Giving to others has the ability to improve and maintain positive mental and physical health. It has the ability to reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide us with a sense of purpose. Volunteering has a wonderful return on investment, the more do such an action to greater benefits we shall experience. With all the verses battles being conducted. I present to you one of the most complicated Personally vs Character. While Personality shows what you are outside or what you desire to present to the world, Character reveals what you are inside. As these are directly reflected in a person's attitude, behavior and, conduct. Which one is more important, which has the greater impact, and which one should we focus on the most? Everything we do is practice for something greater than where we currently are. Practice only makes for improvement. – Les Brown. The number one factor in learning any skill is simply the time spent doing it. Talent or interest may help us get started, but what counts in the long run is practice. On this weekly episode, "In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning." —Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning. Over the last year, many of us have experienced trauma. However, out of that trauma, there is a great opportunity for growth. Richard Tedeschi and Lawrence Calhoun coined the term “posttraumatic growth” to capture this phenomenon, defining it as the positive psychological change that is experienced as a result of the struggle with highly challenging life circumstances. Make no doubt: trauma shakes up our world and forces us to evaluate our cherished goals and dreams. Many of our relationships start off in heaven and gradually come back to earth. That is common but not inevitable. Achieving and maintaining positive and joyous human relationships is more difficult than attaining high professional eminence, but it is still possible. The capacity for living is the capacity to make human contacts pleasurable. If we desire a harmonious relationship there must be a long-lasting enjoyment of being in contact with another person. A comfortable, convenient life is not a real life - the more comfortable, the less alive. The most comfortable life is in the grave, Rajneesh. Your comfort zone is a dangerous place. It prevents you from improving, it stops you from achieving all the things you are capable of achieving and it makes you miserable. On this weekly episode, we discuss Fault finding is a universal habit, no matter who we are, where we live, or what our circumstances may be. We are taught not to point fingers at others, but this habit persists. Fault finding is a clever device of the ego. Why is it easier to find fault in others rather than addressing our own personal flaws? “In an age of speed, I began to think, nothing could be more invigorating than going slow. In an age of distraction, nothing can feel more luxurious than paying attention. And in an age of constant movement, nothing is more urgent than sitting still.”Pico Iyer, The Art of Stillness: Adventures in Going Nowhere. On this weekly episode, we discuss reciprocity. While this is not something that can be exact. Due to the nature of one person being able to do what another person cannot. Reciprocity and cooperation are so valuable precisely because we do have various strengths and weaknesses. To create a reciprocal relationship, all partners need to be able to accept responsibility for that creation. The interdependence of a healthy relationship requires that all individuals accept personal responsibility. Tit for Tat theory believes that we will cooperate on the first move and then reciprocates whatever the other player did on the previous move. If they also cooperate on the first move, tit for tat would continue cooperating until they defected. If they defected, tit for tat defected but would switch back to cooperating if their opponent also cooperated. Lastly, we dive into Facts Vs Opinion. In today's society, reactions to events are so quick and predominantly thoughtless that the lines between objective fact and subjective perception begin to blur. On this weekly episode, the habit of meditation is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever learned. Meditation has been shown to have mental benefits, such as improved focus, happiness, memory, self-control, academic performance. Some research on meditation has indicated that it may have other health benefits, including improved metabolism, heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, and more. Most common gym routines focus on moderate-to-high repetition ranges, usually 8-15 reps, to increase the size of a muscle. This is a great workout standard and a wonderful foundation for one’s weight loss and body transformation journey. However, I would like to discuss the idea of lifting heavy for 5 to 8 repetitions, while extremely challenging, can increase muscle strength, size, and muscle definition. While also debunking the myth that women should not lift heavy, or they will create a man like body. On this weekly episode, We all want to in control of our: life, relationship, and career. Here’s the benefit of being in control. We believe it is the most efficient way to live. However, whatever control we think we have is an illusion. 2020 has shown us that we are never actually in control; we only think we are. All we can really control is how we respond. Nothing else. There are benefits of giving up control. Compassionate communication is a skill I have yet to master. I am striving to thoughtful, compassionate in the way that I speak to others, choosing words that impart the perfect balance of empathy and assertiveness. The Indian philosopher J. Krishnamurti once remarked that observing without evaluating is the highest form of human intelligence. Lastly, we discuss Joy vs. Happiness part 1 Joy is an emotion. It’s a simple and light-hearted spark that transcends through your body and leaves feeling good vibrations. It carries no burden or expectations. Happiness also an emotion is usually accompanied by an attachment to an idea, a destination, or experience. As a result, it tends to weigh profoundly heavier on our subconscious. Sacrifice does not mean giving up something for nothing; it means giving up one thing for something else we believe is worth more. We sacrifice in every area of life: work, home, family, relationship. We sacrifice time, money, effort, energy. You cannot get something you want, without giving up something in return. In order to attain something you believe is of greater value, you must give up something that is of great value unto you. Are you willing to sacrifice with a pure heart? Declutter Your Life. Declutter Your Mind. I am reading The Stoic Minimalist by Jacob Martin and one of the first lessons speaks about decluttering your personal space. Let us be honest we all own a lot of shit we don't need and don't use. Our emotional attachment to items makes them very difficult to let go of. Finally, we have to come to terms with the fact that we do not buy what we need, rather we often buy what we want.
