The More Sibyl Podcast Presents: 정체성을 되찾기 위한 여정| The One with William - From Manning to Edoziem: An African-American Man's Journey to Redeeming Identity and Homecoming to the Igbo Nation: Episode 9 (2023)This week's podcast episode featured William Edoziem and his wife, Hailey, who came over to share their story. William was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, and studied African and African-American studies at Indiana State University. He describes himself as a son of God, a follower of Jesus, a poet, a human rights activist, an occasional dancer, and a music junkie. He is passionate about empowering BIPOC and other marginalized communities by ensuring their voices are heard. As a fellow Nigerian, I was particularly interested in his journey of discovering his roots.During our conversation, we talked about what it was like for William growing up, how he felt when he discovered his Igbo heritage, and what it's like tracing his roots. We also discussed his decision to change his last name, which he had wanted to do since high school. It was fascinating to hear about Hailey's perspective on the journey and how she has supported him along the way.As William is a vocal Christian, we also touched on his faith and how it intersects with his identity. We ended the episode with a naming ceremony, making it unique. William changed his surname from Manning to Edoziem, Hailey received an Igbo name, and so did their son. Overall, it was a wonderful conversation that explored culture, identity, and faith.Connect with William: IG: @iamwilledoziem; Facebook: William Edoziem

On this weekly episode, Antonio Tavaris Brown Sr. is a professional American football player. He has overcome tremendous odds to play basketball at the highest level. Being raised in Liberty City, Miami, Brown attended Miami Norland High School. He played college football at Central Michigan University. However Antonio Tavaris Brown has been a trending topic due to his tantrum that was displayed so that the entire world could witness an African American Man with a lack of self-control. Furthermore, this highlights a pattern of misconduct by Brown. The Stoic position on what is within our control is one's thoughts, emotions, desires, choices, and actions. To be in control is to self-govern and we do not need police or laws to govern ourselves while they do have the influence. We have the tendency to be obese about things that lie outside of our control. Meet some of the black men that are breaking down barriers and changing the game in the Massachusetts cannabis industry. On this episode Reginald Stanfield broke the news that his company JustinCredible Cultivation was approved for licenses making him the first black-owned cultivation business in the state, only the second black owned cannabis business, as well as the first non-social equity to open their doors. Seun Adedeji is the founder and CEO of Elev8. As the youngest African American Man in the US, to Own a Cannabis Dispensary, Seun has been on the front lines of the legalization process in multiple states. He brings significant commercial real estate experience to Elev8, as a real estate investor and landlord. Reginald Stanfield is the CEO and head horticulturist at JustinCredible Cultivation. Born and raised a natural farmer, Reginald spent every summer on his grandparents farm in North Carolina. From the time he could walk he worked alongside his grandfather cultivating tobacco, tomatoes, corn, watermelon and other vegetative crops. Upon graduating from Bowie State University with a B.S in Finance, Reginald quit his job as an financial manager at a medium sized minority owned business specializing in government contracts, to start his first business. Shortly after, he realized that his true passion was to develop and elevate others. He saw tremendous opportunity to do just that by creating a company that would go on to support, develop and brand start-up's, thus giving them a pathway to become dominating businesses in their respective industriess. In 2013 Reginald saw another opportunity to leverage his background in horticulture (and novice skills in botany), combined with his strong business acumen, to begin to lay the groundwork for what is now JustinCredible Cultivation. Being a true student of the game, Reginald quickly gained the knack to cultivate cannabis and over the next six years he studied and mastered the art of growing classic strains like Blueberry, White Widow, Durban Poison and even breeding his own strains. Content Warning: The following story contains content that may be distressing to some viewers. Protests have erupted in the US state of Georgia, after a black man was shot dead by police in the capital Atlanta. Twenty-seven year-old Rayshard Brooks was fatally shot during an altercation with police following a failed breath test outside a Wendy's restaurant on Friday night. The city's police chief has quit and the officer involved has been fired. Mr Brooks' killing has added yet more fuel to the fire of nationwide protests calling for an end to racism and police brutality - demonstrations which were sparked by the killing of George Floyd by a white policeman three weeks ago. On Monday afternoon (NZT) an autopsy revealed Rayshard Brooks died from organ damage and blood loss from two gunshot wounds to the back. Our Worldwatch reporter Annabel Reid has more.
When a newborn child comes out of the womb into this world, what happens is that their body senses that there is no supply of oxygen and start stimulating the lungs to start functioning. This manifests in the form of a cry as the baby ask for its first breath. Breathing is something that most of us don’t even think because breathing is second nature but we know it is essential to life. (Genenis 2:7) "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." The very breath in our lungs is the breath of God “I Can’t Breath” is the slogan associated with the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States. When I think of that slogan I see three different implications In the natural or physical world, the words “ I can’t breath” are that last words of two African American Man that I know of that was suffocated while in police custody. Their fundamental right to breathe which can’t be given my NO man was taken away from them. Culturally, these same words signify the oppression of the African American community for the past 400 yrs. When we take the time to open our eyes we will notice that even black country like Africa experience oppression of their people Spiritually, these same words signify the absence of the Holy Spirit. The breath of life! This a cry to our Father in heaven. In this episode, we will discuss the role of a FOC in this season, the plan of the enemy, and how we out to respond as followers of Christ. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/shirley-p/support

There are quite a few fires burning today across America, both literally and figuratively --- and there's still a pandemic underway. We'll get to all of it on this edition of In Depth. We start in Minneapolis, a city overflowing with anger and grief after the death of an African American man at the hands of a police officer. After violent protests, will things remain calm today? And why does this same incident keep playing out over over again in cities across the country? President Trump, after complaining about Twitter slapping a fact check tag on his Tweets, says he'll sign an executive order today that would make it easier for the government to regulate social media. How does a couple more *years* of social distancing, limited capacity in stores and restaurants and face-mask-wearing sound to you? That's the guidance from public health officials who are warning that the coronavirus has not, and will not, simply go away. We'll talk with one business owner who's sick of the restrictions..........and he's asking customers that come into his store to take OFF their masks. And then we head to New Zealand, where the last hospitalized COVID patient has been discharged----what are they doing right that we keep getting wrong? Understanding Betrayal - Rape, Childhood Sexual Violence, and Incest 2020 BLACK PODCASTI
This is a very special podcast as we hear from an African American man talk about witnessing the emotional, healthcare, and economic toll of being sabotaged and betrayed by my family over 45 yearsHe watched my family protect my father, a sexual predator, because he had status and power, and my family's reputation and imagine in the community and church had higher value than me, the Sacrificial Child I knew my family disliked me, but listening to Maurice allowed me to see their hatred, their betrayal, all because I refused to shut up, to stop talking, to tear down the walls of silence, secrets, and shame.Their hatred and fear of me increased when they found out I was writing a memoir which would detail the violence and betrayal Maurice is my hero, for 45 years he been a constant in my life. The one person I could talk to, cry with, talk about my fears of hurting my son when I told him the truth of our shared paternity, he is my son and my brotherMaurice did what we all need, he remained in my life, he called and checked in on me, he allowed me to believe I was worthy of living
