My name is Cutter though you may know me as three beers in a coat on air on HD one and welcome to this episode of, You'll never believe me, But.You'll never believe me, but is a storytelling podcast being produced here at WKNC about lying to me. Every episode I have a guest on and they tell me two stories, one real and one fake, and I have to decide which is real between them. For those of you that are new here, or for those of you that need a quick refresher, I'm gonna run down the three rules we have here, before we get into today's episode. Rule number one, your story should not do significant damage to anyone else or their character. We're not trying to be outwardly mean to anyone other than ourselves. Rule number two, if someone else is featured in your story, you must either have their permission to say their name or use a fake name for them. You agreed to come on the show and tell these stories but unless they agreed to have these stories told just use a fake name. And rule number three, and this is the easiest one all story should start with. You'll never believe me but and then a brief synopsis before starting the story just so we all know what we're getting into. And is a nice little nod to the show's title. So with all that housekeeping stuff out of the way, let's go ahead and get into today's episode. Today's guest is Stacy, a family friend of mine, someone I've known since I was days old and an all around killer lady Stacy, how are you doing today?Stacy 1:24 Well cutter I'm great. And I appreciate the very kind of intro there my friend.Cutter 1:28 Well, it's all true. You are killer. And you have known me since I was days old. Stacy 1:33 Yeah, basically, yes. About three or four days probably.Cutter 1:36 Amazing. Because that's when one of my closest friends your son, one of my closest friends we're four days apart. And that's kind of how we got to know each other him and I and then through that we've just been very close family friends ever since. Stacy 1:49 Absolutely. Cutter 1:50 So we've been on vacations we've gone places we've done a lot. And I have gotten to see truly the depth and breadth of your character, which is why I'm so excited to have you on the show Stacy 1:58 Or scared. Cutter 1:58 Yes, I think both is totally fair. Because I know you pretty well, I'd conjecture and Stacy 2:05 I would say so. Cutter 2:06 I knew a lot of my guests that came on but not as well as I think I know you just because of the quantity of time we spent together which is why I'm excited for you to tell me your stories. Stacy 2:15 Well now we're gonna see if you really do know me or if you just think you know me.Cutter 2:19 That is a great point. Now your stories have a bit of an interesting backstory to them.Stacy 2:24 Yeah.Cutter 2:25 It would have been I I want to say two weeks ago.Stacy 2:28 Two weeks ago, Saturday. Cutter 2:29 You, you came over your family came over to hang out with my family. We're pals like that. We're chums and you came in limping. You've got and this is still true, you've got a cast on your forearm that goes up and over your wrist. Stacy 2:31 Yeah.Cutter 2:36 and your, is it your right leg? Stacy 2:46 Oh, it's my right leg.Cutter 2:47 and your right leg, I I would I think best describe it as a purple tie dye disaster.Stacy 2:54 I think you're kind Cutter 2:55 I think well okay, how would you describe it? Stacy 2:58 Oh my god, it's it looks like an alien has landed on my leg and exploded and purple and bruised gruesomeness it's it's it's very bad. Cutter 3:07 It is gnarly.Stacy 3:08 It, it's bad.Cutter 3:09 And so, and so you came in with this major injury that you would already told the rest of my family about because I had missed an event of some kind. Because I was out of town. And you came in and you were very secretive about it. Stacy 3:21 I was and quite honestly, I'm impressed that no one told you what happened to me. So we have we have definitely kept it under wraps on purpose. So I'm very excited to see what happens today.Cutter 3:32 Yes, I'm very excited. And so yes, this is the main focus of this episode is your crazy injury that has been I mean, it's been what three weeks since you injured yourself?Stacy 3:44 It's been two weeks and I would say that this this big glob on my leg which is officially you know, I know this is medical info but I'm clearly given the clearance to share. It's a hematoma. I don't know if you are familiar with what a hematoma is.Cutter 3:57 Sounds familiar. Stacy 3:58 So essentially, you know, something has happened and now there's hemorrhaging going on. We've got you know, not hemorrhaging that means I'm gonna die, thankfully, and I'm been clear that I'm not throwing any clots, but there's some serious, serious hemorrhaging that has occurred, which is, you know, resulted in about, I don't know, a six inch wide and four inch three to four inch tall blob that has grown on my leg Cutter 4:24 From here and we're sitting probably like six, seven feet apart. Stacy 4:28 Yeah. Cutter 4:28 From here it looks like you have a half a tennis ball taped to the top of your thigh.Stacy 4:33 Well yeah. Which is a little better because I would have called it at least probably grapefruit to cantaloupe size so we're where you know you're doing better things are getting better.Cutter 4:42 Oh my goodness. It's a shame that that is better though I'm glad you are getting better. Hey, if you're hemorrhaging on the inside, that's where the blood's supposed to be.Stacy 4:49 I know, I did learn though that you know, as as one medical professional told me throughout this, you know, your body's designed, I guess unless you hit an artery. Cutter 4:59 Sure. Stacy 4:59 Not to bleed out.Cutter 5:01 yeah, yeah, it's crazy. Stacy 5:02 So uh, there you go. Cutter 5:03 Yeah, tactical redundancy. That's amazing. I'm very excited again. Yes, my family has kept this secret, secret from me. And I haven't asked because I didn't want to ruin the sanctity of this experience getting to hear these stories for the first time. But I think honestly, they would have been more angry at me for even trying to get them to tell me honestly. Stacy 5:22 Okay, good. They're good people. I'll keep them. Cutter 5:23 They are. I'm glad I don't have a choice. I'm glad that you feel that way. Well, you know how the show ...

So with all that housekeeping stuff out of the way, let's go ahead and get into today's episode. Today's guest is Caitlin WKNC, DJ content creator and all around awesome person that I have wanted to have on my show for a while. Caitlin, how are you doing? Caitlin 1:27 I'm good. How are you?Cutter 1:29 I'm doing wonderful. I'm so glad to get you in the studio because you were here a lot. But I don't see you around. I think our hours just don't line up.Caitlin 1:36 Yeah, I just I kind of float around. I'm, I'm so awkward. I'm very active in the discord. But when I come in here, like I kind of just do my thing. And then I leave like I rarely ever say hi to anybody unless like they say hi to me because I don't, I feel like I'm intruding. Like sometimes I'll say hi to Jamie. Sure. Lovely advisor, but I kind of just float in, float out.Cutter 1:57 YeahCaitlin 1:57 You know how it isCutter 1:57 Absolutely no, I do the same thing. I come in and I come in, you're now in my little cave that I basically every time I show up, I say hi to Jamie normally cuz she's right out there on the way in. We'll chat for a few minutes. And then I will close the door and sit here and edit or record or do whatever in my little cave. And it's so nice. Well, I'm honored to have you on you are a phenomenal storyteller in writing. Because you write a lot of the blog posts that we have at WKNCCaitlin 2:25 Thank you. Yeah, I am a content creator here for the blog. Um, I don't know, it's always just come naturally to me. I love telling stories. But when I tell them out loud, I'm like, notorious for like going back and be like, wait, but I forgot. I have to tell like this whole backstory. So I have practice telling my story today so that I have it in somewhat of a linear order. I was like doing it to my roommate, like over and over again last night while she was cleaning her room, and she was like, I've heard these stories a million times and I was like sorry. But yeah, writing is my preferred medium but..Cutter 2:57 sure. Caitlin 2:58 You know, it's always fun to try something new.Cutter 3:01 I'm glad that you'll try something new. I've been reading a lot of your blog posts in preparation just to get a glimpse. And it's I don't know, I'm just very excited to have you on because if it's anything like your writing, I am super stoked. To have you tell me these stories. Caitlin 3:15 Thank you. I appreciate it. Cutter 3:16 Yeah, no pressure, but Caitlin 3:18 no pressure. But if your stories aren't good, your firedCutter 3:20 but if you're, yeah, I can't fire you are way above me on that chain. I'm pretty sure you could fire me if you really wanted to. Caitlin 3:28 I don't think so. Maybe.Cutter 3:30 we won't explore that. Well, unless you have any questions for me. I'd say let's just jump into your stories. Caitlin 3:37 Okay. Cutter 3:38 All right. Caitlin. Take it away.Caitlin 3:41 You'll never believe me. But one time I served Panthers player Luke Kuechly at a restaurant and I didn't realize it was him.Cutter 3:48 Oh my goodness. Okay. I'm gonna be honest with you I'm a big Panthers fan. I love football. I have grown up being a Panthers fan. And Luke Kuechly was my idol when I played football for like a few years in middle school or sorry, a year in middle school. So I am That's amazing. By the way. Yeah, please. How do we get there?Caitlin 4:08 Yeah, so in high school, I worked at this like, restaurant obviously. I worked at this restaurant, it was like a quick service restaurant, kind of like a Panera type setup. Like you walk in, you go up to register, somebody takes your order. They give you like a number or a pager. You sit down and then we bring your food out to you Cutter 4:28 Amazing sure. Caitlin 4:29 So it's not like a waiter or waitress type situation, Cutter 4:31 Right.Caitlin 4:32 And in this particular shift, I'm, I'm working at the end register Oh, and I should say, um, I work in a shopping center that was right across from another shopping center that had a bouji gym. Okay, and people would come in in work out clothes and athleisure all the time. Cutter 4:50 Sure, sure. Yeah. Caitlin 4:51 So, you know, something I was used to and not something I was super ever fazed byCutter 4:56 right and where'd you go to high school?Caitlin 4:58 Um, I am from Charlotte so I went to high school at Ardey Kell.Cutter 5:02 Oh, hey, I know I have family who went Ardey Kell so awesome. Caitlin 5:06 Wow. Okay, we can talk about that later. Cutter 5:07 Yeah absolutely.Caitlin 5:10 So I yeah, so I was used to the gym people coming in at that end register so like, it would be odd for like somebody else working like on the line to like come up to me to talk to me because we're kind of busy it was like dinner time and I was kinda like off like a little bit to the side like just by myself right so I'm taking people's orders and stuff. This gym bro Cutter 5:35 Sure yeah, Caitlin 5:36 Very buff Cutter 5:36 yeah Caitlin 5:37 comes up. I don't think anything of it. I take his order. You know, he gives me his credit card. I swipe it, I give it back, whatever, like normal interaction Cutter 5:46 Yeah totally. Caitlin 5:46 And whatever. I'm just I take a few more orders. 5-10 minutes later, my ...

Today's guest is Jamie, Student Media Associate Director and more importantly, WKNC advisor and an all around wonderful person. I've had the pleasure of meeting through my time at WKNC. Jamie, how you doing today? Jamie Lynn Gilbert 01:30I'm doing great. And most importantly, I am the number one fan of You'll never believe me. But Cutter 01:35Aww, well thank you very much you have had access to the show for longer than anyone. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 01:41Yes Cutter 01:41What with you giving me my interview for this position and hearing my pitch for this as I desperately begged you to read it over and over again for two weeks straight. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 01:50Yes, I also, I because of my position at WKNC. I get access to the podcast before it becomes live. So I get to listen to it before everyone else. So I get to make my guesses and figure out if I'm right or wrong. And I will say I've said this to you privately. And I will say it to you publicly. I also thought grant was lying in our last episode about his weird trip to Jacksonville on Thanksgiving. So I was with you on that. Cutter 02:20That makes me feel much better. I didn't feel particularly bad about that one. I'll be honest, I was I was pretty convinced I was pretty convinced. But hey, that's what the show is about. What can you do? Jamie, you have in front of you a physical piece of paper, which as a as a young person in 2021 is something that I have rarely ever seen. Is that that's all your notes. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 02:41Yes, I have typed up notes. So I make sure that I hit the high points of each story. Cutter 02:47Mm hmm. May I ask? Are you going to take notes on your notes? You do have a pencil laying beside, Jamie Lynn Gilbert 02:53I am prepared. If I need to take my notes. I am ready. Cutter 02:58Hey, I don't blame you at all. I have thought about doing the same physical paper is so astonishing. I think if if anything were to reveal that you are not a college student, that would be the one what with that and your position of power within NC State Student Media. But I'm very excited because that is a full page of notes from over here Jamie Lynn Gilbert 03:18it is it's bullet points. But but it is Cutter 03:20Hey, plenty of notes. That means plenty of story, which I'm very excited for because we've been talking about getting you on the show as a guest since you read the pitch. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 03:28Yes. Cutter 03:28And you begrudgingly accepted at first you kept trying to pitch to me other people tha you knew to come on the show. And I was about to drop it. I was like okay, maybe she just doesn't want to come on. Maybe she's self conscious about that sort of thing. But I'm glad I kept pushing because I'm so excited to have you on. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 03:43Yeah, I have actually I have been crafting these stories and then re changing them and then changing them again. And then I will tell you, as I a couple days ago, I started writing these out and I changed my fake story again. Their, I've actually put quite a bit of thought into this Cutter 04:02amazing. Well, I'm very excited then because I think the ones that are the most prepared for the ones that are the most exciting sometimes. I mean, not every time naturally. But I know you and I'm I'm very excited to get into the story. So unless you have anything else for me, I'm ready to just jump straight into this. I'm very excited. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 04:19I'm ready too Cutter 04:20All right. Well, Jamie, take it away. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 04:23You'll never believe me. But I passed out in front of my entire high school gym class. Cutter 04:28That is exhilarating. I as someone who did take high school gym class kind of recently, would imagine that that would be suboptimal. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 04:38It wasn't my favorite. Cutter 04:42I can't imagine not but yeah, how do we get there? Jamie Lynn Gilbert 04:45Okay, so I kind of have a little history of passing out. Oh, okay. Before we go any further, I do want everyone listening at home to know that I have talked about it with my doctor like I don't have any neurological conditions or anything. It's just something that happens sometimes. So the first time it happened, I was like eight or so. And we were on a field trip to like the local hospital and they went into the blood bank, right? Cutter 05:09Oh, no. Jamie Lynn Gilbert 05:10And so the the nurse pulls out this bag of blood and I'm like, cool, right? Then she pulls out this bag of plasma. I'm out. I ...

How are you? Cutter 1:30 I'm doing wonderful. I'm so glad to have you in. You are the resident Social Media Manager here if that's correct. Grant 1:36 Yep. I'm the promotions director. So I work with a lot of venues locally to get there, there's stuff on our social media for money. And I also shitpost just constantly because, well, fun fact. Now we're not bleeding followers anymore, because every time I know you were saying this earlier, the whole the whole vision is every time someone sees a tweet from WKNC. I want them to be like, ooh, another one another, another banger. Cutter 2:03 Another banger. I did see that. I did see that one get posted. I like that one. Grant 2:07 Thank you. Thank you. Cutter 2:08 But no, I you know, you do a great job. And you've actually promoted some of this podcast in the past, which I'm so grateful that I get to have you on. Grant 2:16 I'm certainly going to promote this one. Cutter 2:17 I would hope so. I would hope so. I yeah. honored to have you as a guest. Well, Grant, this is not your first time listening to the podcast. Grant 2:28 No it is not. Cutter 2:28 You are well aware of how this works. Because you've been keeping up with it for a while you were the first person to reach out to me when I posted a call for people to come in and come on my show. Grant 2:40 I love hearing myself talk.Cutter 2:42 Hey, I don't blame, you know, I, I'm just so I'm so glad that we can make this happen. Because you were you were the first person to jump on that. And I'm glad that we could get this scheduled. Because I just you know, I appreciate you and appreciate you being interested in the show. So I want to reward you by having you on. Grant 2:56 Thank you. I feel very rewarded.Cutter 3:00 All right. Well, Grant, if you you know how the show works. If you have any lingering questions before we get into it. Ask them now or we'll go ahead and get started with your first story.Grant 3:10 I'm all good. I don't think I have any questions. Cutter 3:13 All right, well, then we will go ahead and get started. Grant, take it away. Grant 3:17 You will never believe me. But I thought I was going on a date a couple years ago and I wound up almost dying in a world thatCutter 3:25 That sounds okay, there's a lot to start with. I have so many questions and I'm gonna guess you're gonna answer like five of them within the first like, minute, please. How did this all start? Grant 3:36 Alright, so in early High School, there's this girl I was I was talking to and I wanted to get to know more intimately. Cutter 3:45 Sure, sure. Grant 3:46 Yeah. And and so we were talking about you know, at some point going on either a date or just hanging out in general. She was just seemed like a cool person to be friends with too. But one day, just out of nowhere, she she invited me to go like rollerblading. Cutter 4:03 Okay, nice, yeah. Grant 4:04 And so she she had just gotten her license, I believe. I hadn't had my license yet. And I was also like, sophomore, sophomore, junior year. Yeah. And so, obviously, she wasn't the best driver. I don't think anybody who just gets the licenses, but I think it's a little special. Um, like, like, she was like a special case. Kind of not very good at all at the time. I don't know, I haven't talked to her and gotten an update on how good she is at driving since but, uh, so pretty much out of nowhere a little bit later at night. She just asked me if I wanted to go rollerblading with her. And it turns out that her friend was there too. Cutter 4:42 Okay, sure. Grant 4:43 Um, and so I was like, cool. That's, that's fine. But it was also like, already kind of almost like nine or 10 o'clock. Cutter 4:50 Okay, yeahGrant 4:51 around that point. So it was like, okay, Sun's already going down. Cool. Let's Let's see. So I was like, Okay, oh, she's just gonna pick me this someplace in town. Nope. It was like, literally an hour away.Cutter 5:04 an hour away?Grant 5:05 Yeah. So um, yeah, I lived in Wilmington at the time. And it was in Jacksonville, North Carolina, which is Cutter 5:11 oh my goodness, that's far Grant 5:13 I know. I know. Cutter 5:15 And, and she was like, Yeah, I've got I've had my license for like, a month. I could totally make this hour long drive at 9pm Grant 5:21 Yeah, absolutely. No, the thing is, you know, you got to drive back. Cutter 5:28 That's true. Yeah, that's half the trouble. Grant 5:31 Yeah. So yeah, we just sort of, did it. Um,Cutter 5:36 So you made it there safely? Grant 5:38 So I believe we made it there somewhat safely. Yeah. Cutter 5:41 Okay, sureGrant 5:42 I mean, I think there was something that I don't know she might have like, almost like gone at a red light or something and really freaked out but like, other than that, she was kind of okay.Cutter 5:53 Sure, sure.Grant 5:56 the place that we went there. The place we went to it, I cannot express enough how shady it was. Cutter 6:03 Oh, yeah. Grant 6:04 Anybody who has ever been to Jacksonvil...
You'll Never Believe Me But… is a lighthearted storytelling podcast about what's real, what's fake, and what's funny. Guests come on and tell two stories, one real one fake, and laugh and joke about it with host Cutter as they enjoy storytelling while he tries to figure out which story is the real one.EPISODE TRANSCRIPT:Provided by Otter.aiCutter 0:00 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening everyone. My name is cutter the you may know me as three bears in a coat on air on HD one, and welcome to this episode of, You'll never believe me, but. "You'll never believe me, but" is a storytelling podcast being produced here at WKNC about lying to me, every episode I have a guest on and they tell me two stories one real and one fake, and I have to decide which is real between them. For those of you that are new here, or for those of you that need a quick refresher, I'm gonna run down the three rules we have here before we get into today's episode. Rule number one, your story should not do significant damage to anyone else or their character. We're not trying to be outwardly mean to anyone other than ourselves. Rule number two, if someone else is featured in the story, you must either have their permission to say their name or use fake name for them. You agreed to come on the show and tell these stories but unless they agreed to have these stories told, just use a fake name. And rule number three, and this is the easiest one. All stories should start with. You'll never believe me but and then a brief synopsis before starting the story just so we all know what we're getting into, and it is a nice little nod to the show's title. So with all of that housekeeping stuff out of the way, let's go ahead and get into today's episode. Today's guest is Amanda a friend of the station and someone I'm excited to get to know as this is the first time that we've met Amanda, how are you doing today?Amanda 1:31 I'm Great. I'm really excited to be here. I was a college radio nerd myself. So it's wonderful to be in a studio again.Cutter 1:39 Awesome. Where did you go to college and what radio station?Amanda 1:42 Undergrad, I went to George Washington University. So in DC, and we had very very, This is so much cooler, we had very little bandwidth to get very far. So I don't think even all the dorms were covered by the radio station. Definitely did not have the listenership that WKNC has.Cutter 2:04 Yeah, I'm very lucky. WKNC is sizable. And it's got a long enough history that I think that that definitely helps. That's awesome. Well, I'm very glad to have you back in the studio, then. I was told that you have rehearsed your stories over a long drive on the way down. Can you tell me a little bit more about that?Amanda 2:25 Absolutely. So I live in Michigan, technically. And I used to live here in Raleigh and work at NC State. But now I live in Michigan, and I am here visiting. And so we went to Atlantic Beach for last couple of days. And that was pretty incredible. Yeah, I got a little beach time and it was good. It wasn't busy. So that was especially nice. Oh, so yeah, had some time on the beach and swimming. And Patrick caught two sharks, which was very exciting. Little baby sharks, Cutter 2:54 And that is your boyfriend? Amanda 2:55 My boyfriend. Yep. Cutter 2:56 Awesome. That's awesome. And so on the way back from Atlantic say to hear you rehearse your stories with Patrick, is that true?Amanda 3:04 We listened to the second episode of this podcast, which was wonderful. Cutter 3:08 Thank you. Thank you.Amanda 3:10 It was great to hear. And so we listened to that. And I just was like, Okay, I had a bunch of different ideas, and just kind of narrowed them down and talk through what was you know, what was going to be most believable as my fake story.Cutter 3:26 I feel like that's a lot of pressure on me now. Like, like, the stakes are so high. Everyone's getting so into it, which I am all for, by the way.Amanda 3:33 Absolutely, absolutely, it is a great challenge. It's like, storytelling is so much more challenging than I ever thought it was. Anyway, I you know, I think I'm a natural storyteller, but I had to prepare for The Moth one time, I did The Moth on NPR. Cutter 3:49 Oh wow, Amazing. Amanda 3:51 And it was incredibly mentally challenging. Just they, you know, you can't do use any notes at all. And my story was about 12 minutes. And so you just would, you know, practice with picturing what was happening and talking about it. And it was a grand challenge. But but really fun. So I'm excited to be here. This is a really fun idea. And I like can't wait till I get to guess about yours.Cutter 4:17 Oh I am very excited. I think that that's gonna be the most interesting is to see the development of it over time by the end of the season. So you, you talked about the moth, you do a lot of speaking Is that right? What all, Where all do you speak? What all do you do?Amanda 4:32 So I speak a lot to medical students and nursing students and just to regular groups of people and teach them about different medical topics, mostly about ovarian cancer. And I'm also always just kind of working on projects that, you know, put me where I'm trying to raise awareness or as an advocate for a particular political issue. I do a lot of work on policy. and things like that, too. SoCutter 5:01 amazing. That's impressive. Well, I'm honored to have a NPR featured Storyteller here on my podcast. Unless you have any questions for me, we can go ahead and jump right into it. I'm very excited.Amanda 5:13 Sounds good. You will never believe me. But I was diagnosed with cancer on a trip to Nicaragua. And they had to get me to the hospital by emergency boat.Cutter 5:23 Emergency boat is amazing. And wow, I don't even know where to start with that. unpacking it, I think the best place to start is just to let you tell the story.Amanda 5:35 Absolutely. So in my, my professional career, I've always run service and leadership centers at different universities. So like, helping nerds save the world is kind of my specialty. And I love getting to take students abroad on service trips, you know, often, it's called, like Alternative Breaks at different schools and things like that. So a lot of people have done programs like that. We have them here at NC State. Amazing to go on to. And I got one summer, I had an incredible experience where I got to take 15 of my Stanford students at the time abroad to Nicaragua for like, about 8 weeks. Cutter 6:18 Oh, my goodness, that's a long time. Amanda 6:20 It was pretty much the whole summer. And the really cool part was it was all themed around, like natural medicine. And just understanding kind of medicine in the context of this developing country, and in this different context. And so a lot of these students were really intense type a pre med students. So even preparing to travel with them was sometimes challenging, Cutter 6:46 I would imagine. Yeah. Amanda 6:48 Even down to like, what do you pack becomes like a whole exercise. Being prepared and everything but, you know, you get to know people really well, during an experience like that.Cutter 7:00 Absolutely, I mean, eight weeks is a long time long timeAmanda 7:03

Today's guest is Maddie, a good friend of mine at the station and WKNC's general manager who does a ton for the station. Maddie, how you doing? Maddie 01:29I'm doing pretty well. Thanks for having me. This is excitingCutter 01:31Thank you for coming on the podcast and being my first guest ever. I'm so excited that it got to be you. Are you pumped to tell me your two stories? Maddie 01:41Oh, yes, definitely.Cutter 01:42Very interested. I was told a little birdie told me that you were coming up with stories during your cycling class. Is that true?Maddie 01:50Okay, that's partially true. The thing is, like, I came up with them over the weekend, but you know, like, since one is fake, I'm going to have to make it seem real, you know. So I need to like elaborate on the details for that story. And I was talking with Jamie about that, who's the station advisor, like an hour or two ago, right before I left for my class. And so my class was a gym class where we ride bikes for an hour and get really sweaty. So while I was doing that, I was ironing out the details to my fake story. So yes, I guess that's partially true. Cutter 02:23That is awesome. I'm very excited to see if your stories are cycling inspired or not. That is unfortunate. But if it is the gig as well, unless you have any other questions for me, we will go ahead and get started.Maddie 02:36I don't think so. Cutter 02:36All right, then take it away.Maddie 02:40You'll never believe me but I got stuck in the washing machine when I was playing hide and seek with my brothers as a young child. So I say that but it might actually be like somewhat believable because kids are like stupid.Cutter 02:54Yeah, kids are really dumb. Maddie 02:55Ya know, Yeah.Cutter 02:57So I want to get this out of the way. I so my family was very adamant that I was not to go in the washing machine as a child, they that was something that hammered in to me a ton. So is that the same for you before we get into how you got stuck?Maddie 03:11 I don't think Well, I mean, you say that How much did they have to like tell you not to get into the washing machine? Cutter 03:19Okay, well, it did come up like, way more than it should have I was definitely a little bit of like a monkey like child as I was just like flying around everywhere. All right. And so the washing machine was always one of those things where I was like, ooh, let's get inside and spin around. Okay, that's me. Please tell me how you got stuck in the washing machine.Maddie 03:42Well, we were playing hide and seek I don't know are you like an only child Do you have a younger sibling?Cutter 03:46No I've got a younger siblingMaddie 03:47Did you play hide and seek as a kid? Cutter 03:49I didMaddie 03:50Yeah, we used to do that all the time. And this is I'm not gonna say completely out of my memory range but I was definitely younger than 10 so this story is more like based off of what my mom has told me because I don't remember a lot of it. Maybe blocked half of it out because it was like a traumatic experience and stuff but as children my two younger brothers they're twins and two years below me we played hide and seek a lot we had like a fairly big house I guess so lots of places to hide and stuff but Cutter 04:21absolutelyMaddie 04:22 you know when you play hide and seek you just oh you shouldn't go in the washing machine and like you said I feel like I'm sure my mom or dad was like hey guys when you play hide and seek don't go on the washing machine but maybe it should have been drilled in my head more because I was like, let's go into the washing machine. And I saw like it's a pretty good hiding spot. I feel like I'm in this house. I don't know like if this is no I feel like it's pretty standard like the washing machine was was its own room like it had its own door and you could like walk in there and fit in there and stuff. And I remember also during Hide and Seek they were like the laundry hampers kind of And we'd all we'd often hide in those or even just like kind of behind the door, but then leave the door open and stuff like that. But I guess this one time I decided to amp it up a bit and be like, it's washing machine time. And like I said, I was really young. I don't know how old six, seven. I don't know. But I apparently got stuck in the washing machine. I again, like because this was so long ago. I don't remember a lot of it. But I probably sat there for a while like, Oh, sure. 10, 20, 30 minutes, maybe more just waiting for someone to come and find me. But I guess like, it's a good thing that no one found me because that means I picked a really good hiding spot. Yeah. I think what happened is like they couldn't find me, um, my brothers that is and I guess like how we play...

My name is Cutter, though you may know me as Three Bears in a Coat on-air on HD-1, and welcome to the very first episode of, "You'll never believe me, but...". "You'll never believe me, but..." is a new podcast being produced here at WKNC. And since it's new, I'm going to break down with all of you what it is what it will sound like and what you can expect moving forward. "You'll never believe me, but..." is a storytelling podcast. Every week, I'll have on to a new guest and they will tell me two stories, one of them real, and one of them fake. And the ultimate goal after some laughing and some having a good time, I'm not going to make it super rigid. I don't want them to just tell me two stories statically and then ask questions. So I'm going to butt in, we're going to joke around. But the ultimate goal is that after they tell me these two stories, that I will have to guess which of them is real, and which of them is fake, they will of course reveal after that. And that should spark some fun conversation. So with that out of the way, let me get the housekeeping stuff done before we jump into my own two stories that I'm going to tell here on this episode. So that every episode when I have guests on, they can guess which of my two stories is real and fake, this housekeeping stuff will go over at the top of every episode for any new listeners. But we're all new listeners today. So I figured I'll go over it in-depth now. Cutter 1:29 So for the structure for what each episode is going to look like, I'm gonna bring on a guest, I'm going to introduce them, and we're gonna have a quick conversation about who they are, what they do. And then I'll have them launch into their first of their two stories. Again, like I said, it's not just pure storytelling with no jokes or no butting in, it will be a good time. It'll be personal. It'll be fun. And then we'll have a brief recap. We'll laugh about it. Before we do the exact same thing with the second story. After we go over that one, we I will ask some questions and make my conviction as to which of the two of them is true. They'll tell me if I'm right, if I'm wrong, hopefully I'm more right than wrong. And then that should spark some fun conversation about what does that mean for the true story? And what does that mean? Where do they come up with the fake story? Then we will take a pause and I will let them listen to my two stories that I'm going to tell right here right now on this very first episode of this podcast, we'll get to laugh about it. We'll come back on the mic. And you'll get to hear their reaction, their questions, and then we will have them make their guess but I will not reveal it until the end of the season when we have a nice little recap to tie everything together. because that'd be no fun. Because then someone could listen to that episode, come on, and then be right. That's pretty lame, then I will thank the guests and we will segue out. That is all for our structure. Cutter 2:46 Our rules. We only have three rules here. And you'll never believe me, but and they're all pretty simple. Number one, your story should not do significant damage to someone or their character. I feel like this is pretty obvious. We're not trying to be extraordinarily mean here. And the story that I tell is going to be either disparaging to me or no one. Rule number two, if someone else is featured in the story, you must either have their consent to say their name, or use a fake name, you agreed to come on this podcast and tell the stories, they did not agree to have the story told so unless you get consent from them just use a fake name. It'll make everything a lot easier. And I think it will make everyone a little bit more comfortable. And rule number three, the final rule on the podcast and this one should be pretty easy to remember. All stories must start with You'll never believe me, but and then a brief synopsis before starting the story. So if your story is about that one time, the mall flooded while you were there and you had to swim out to your car. Your story would start with You'll never believe me. But one time the mall flooded and I had to swim out to my car. Pretty simple. Sounds good. Great. Cutter 3:49 Let's get into my first story. You'll never believe me. But during finals week, I knew someone who broke his hand late at night. And I had to drive him to the hospital the night before an exam. So Justin lived a few doors down from me and I do want to say this off the rip. Right? He's fine. He's okay. Everything ended up being alright. And I do want to I want to preface with that. Okay, now I can get into it. Justin, we'll call him Justin. He lived a few doors down from me. And I got a call late one night. I want to say it was like Tuesday night during finals week. It was the night before my econ exam. And he calls me which is weird. He never calls me and I was still awake. I was finishing up some studying. I was doing some last minute cramming, which I know is like not the best for my econ final the next afternoon. And he calls me and I pick up the phone. I'm like, hey, Justin, what's up? He is. Oh, it's hes a little little paniced, right a little more paniced than I can do justice but he goes Oh, can you come to my room real quick. I think I need help. I kind of messed up my hand and I was like Oh crap. Okay, yeah, absolutely hang up on him and run you know, however many doors like three doors down and throw open the door luckily it's unlocked because he's in there in his hand is like under neath. So we have blinds in all the dorms at state. And he'd managed somehow to he was like closing the blinds or changing them around or opening them or something. And he had managed to, in pulling on the string had pulled down the entire metal box attached to the top of the window onto his hand. Right. And it had landed on his hand, even from from just like a few minutes in there, you can tell that it was not the greatest there was a little bit of blood, and I was like, oh, okay, kind of starting to panic, right go into, let me help you, let me take care of you mode. Cutter 5:50 I immediately go over and help them lift it off, because you can't really lift it off with with the hand that's being crushed. And he doesn't quite have enough with the other hand, so I go over there, I help them lift them off. And run back to my room, I have a first aid kit in my room. And I go back and I'm you know, using like gauze and bandages and all that just to make sure that it's not bleeding profusely out, right. And so I'm like, Okay, let's just take this, you know, I'm trying to keep a calm demeanor, of course, I'm panicking, but he's the guy with the crushed hands. So I can't really, you know, say too much. And so I'm like, Okay, let's, you know, take care of this, we'll be all right. And, you know, he's saying, oh, it doesn't hurt too bad. And I'm like, okay, maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, but either way, you know, still just trying to make sure that everything's okay. And we call apparently, as we found out, um, because I did a quick Google search because I was curious. NC State University has a like little injury hotline thing. And so we called that. And they basically said, Hey, just go to the nearest urgent care, and they give us the address, they just I just go to the urgent care. can't really do much over the phone can't really do muc...
