Season 4, Episode 8 - April 2026 The April episode is here. This month we're proudly sponsored by the Almuerzo, Valencia's greatest invention. No corporate sponsor would have us probably, so we went with something we actually believe in. We run through everything we published in March, including our big two-part series on the real running costs of owning a property in Valencia. Part one covers electricity and why Spain's renewable energy story is actually good news for your bills. Part two covers everything else: IBI, gas, water, community fees, internet, insurance, pools, gardens. Real numbers for a city apartment and a house with a pool. We also talk about the property market. Americans now make up around two-thirds of our transactions, which is remarkable. The global chaos, the Iran situation, tariffs, oil prices. None of it has slowed things down here. If anything, it's pushing more people our way. The main interview this month is with Teresa Villaseca, one of our clients who's setting up a business in Valencia helping Americans abroad with their US tax returns. If you're American and thinking of moving here, or you're already here and confused about FBAR, FATCA and why the IRS hasn't forgotten about you, this is essential listening. The US is one of only two countries that taxes citizens on worldwide income regardless of where they live. The other one is Eritrea. Good company to be in US, good company. And we finish with our getting-to-know-the-team segment. This month it's Paul's turn. Can he juggle or ride a unicycle? Can he paint your portrait in oils or your walls with emulsion? And is he really from Cork or is it just an affectation? This week, actor Milo Ventimiglia — known for 'This Is Us,' 'Gilmore Girls' and 'Heroes' — tells us why he chose to star in a new Christian movie, playing real-life worship artist Tim Timmons, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer over 20 years ago and is still defying the odds today. In RELEVANT Buzz, the crew recaps the Super Bowl — including the incredible story of Seahawks coach Mike McDonald, who followed God's calling to leave the corporate world to take an unpaid internship in coaching. And now 12 years later, it's led to a Super Bowl championship. We also dig into a new study revealing that Gen Z is statistically dumber than their parents (and why that's significant). Plus, Jesse forces the crew to watch the Carman movie trailer, and at the end of the show, we have Ask the Cast! And of course Jesse and Derek have some strong thoughts on Ring cameras and drones.Highlights:01:28 — The Olympics and Derek's New Drone04:59 — Ring Cameras Have Ruined Jesse's Hypothetical Heist06:18 — The Dark Knight Predicted the Ring Camera Era09:20 — Apple Is Buying Tech That Can Hear Your Silent Speech16:29 — RELEVANT BUZZ19:31 — Coach Mike McDonald: From Accountant to Super Bowl Champion23:04 — New Study: Gen Z Is Scoring Lower on IQ Tests Than Their Parents24:40 — The Lost Art of Daydreaming & Why Boredom Matters30:09 — Milo Ventimiglia on ‘I Can Only Imagine 2'33:24 — Jesse Makes the Crew Watch the Carman Movie Trailer (Live Reaction)37:47 — SLICES38:11 — Man Cited for Juggling Fire on a Unicycle in a Crosswalk41:11 — Man Breaks Into Little Caesars After Hours & Starts Selling Pizzas43:09 — ASK THE CAST44:05 — What Belief Have You Changed Your Mind On?45:46 — Boundaries You Didn't Know You Could Set46:40 — What Today Would Shock Yourself 10 Years Ago?47:18 — Podcast Voice vs. Real Voice49:48 — Who Has the Worst Music Taste on the Crew?51:04 — Why Jesse Is a Terrible Texter52:55 — NBA All-Star Weekend: Does Anyone Care?53:59 — Outro & YouTube Growth UpdateAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Kelli Jackson was first on the podcast in 2019. In that conversation, she shared how she transformed herself from (and I quote) an “unassuming middle age, overweight, unfit accountant who smoked” and who couldn't ride a unicycle into an athlete and adventurer who planned to ride a unicycle around the world! This time, Kelli returned to share her most recent adventure - becoming the first Westerner to ride a unicycle inside North Korea!I have never met or spoken with someone who has been to North Korea so I was very excited to hear about it.

Can you juggle? If you're a communications pro today, you'd better learn how. Just when you think you've got a good rhythm going, someone tosses you another responsibility. Maybe it's a new social platform. Maybe it's a cultural shift that changes how your audience thinks. Maybe it's AI lighting everything on fire. But you can handle it. In this episode of The Trending Communicator, host Dan Nestle sits down with Abenaa (Abby) Hayes, founder and CEO of Elysee Consulting, who's been perfecting this professional juggling act for over two decades, helping executives and organizations navigate inclusion and social impact communications without losing their footing. She doesn't just help companies say the right things; she helps them figure out how to authentically live their values in a fractured landscape where performative statements can and do backfire often. What happens when the inclusion specialist walks out of the room? Ask American Eagle about their Sydney Sweeney campaign. Or better yet, listen as Abby breaks down why having the right people in the room matters more than ever, and why those people shouldn't be treated like cops, but as strategic advisors who help you achieve what you actually want to achieve. This conversation goes way beyond the DEI acronym to explore what it really means to show up authentically when everyone's watching, everyone's got an opinion, and the stakes keep getting higher. Listen in and hear about... Why "showing up" means more than just posting something and walking away How the fractured media landscape requires meeting audiences where they actually are (hint: it's not always the New York Times) The real reason former journalists are becoming PR's secret weapon Why AI literacy isn't optional anymore—the people who know AI are coming for your job How to navigate inclusion without becoming the content police The American Eagle case study and what happens when brainstorms escape into the wild Why curiosity might be your only real competitive advantage Notable Quotes On the Importance of Inclusion: "To me that's ultimately what it's about. And if I just look at the demographics, both of the US and globally, like we're truly operating in a multicultural and multiethnic world." - Abenaa Hayes [11:40 → 12:02] On the Evolution of Media Relations: "Media relations is no longer the be all end all in terms of not only driving awareness but cultivating credibility. Right. You've got to take literally like a multi step approach in order to drive ultimately what I call brand engagement." - Abenaa Hayes [36:20 → 37:15] On AI Literacy: "If you're really looking to future proof a career, your competency and know how to navigate everything that's coming, you have to actually understand how to use it and also be fluent in it." - Abenaa Hayes [50:03 → 51:50] On AI in Communication: "My contention is that none of this is going to take your job because your job itself is going to be so much different that if you lose your job, it's kind of on you." - Dan Nestle [56:41 → 57:41] Resources and Links Dan Nestle Inquisitive Communications | Website The Trending Communicator | Website Communications Trends from Trending Communicators | Dan Nestle's Substack Dan Nestle | LinkedIn Abenaa (Abby) Hayes Elysee Consulting | Website Abenaa Hayes | LinkedIn Timestamps 0:00 Intro: Juggling priorities as communicators 5:30 Abena Hayes: Navigating inclusion and social impact 11:39 The importance of authentic inclusion efforts 18:02 Media relations in a fractured landscape 25:01 Storytelling's role in effective communication 31:38 AI literacy and its impact on careers 38:15 The future of communications jobs 44:26 Generative AI and earned media strategies 50:02 Critical thinking in the age of AI 54:39 AI as a tool, not a replacement 1:00:36 The evolving role of communications professionals 1:06:32 Curiosity as a key skill for communicators (Notes co-created by Human Dan, Claude, and Flowsend.ai ) Learn more about your ad choices. When most 18-year-olds finish college, they start to think about university or starting a career. Not Ed Pratt. Aged 19, he set off from his front door on a unicycle – and three years later he'd circumnavigated the globe. Yes, you read that correctly: he rode around the entire world on one wheel.Just like Joff Summerfield from earlier on this year, Ed's sense of adventure and remarkable stories from the road made for a fascinating chat – and, of course, Rob's mind was blown.Since we spoke to Ed, he's completed another incredible challenge: following the River Thames from source to sea – without leaving it once! The show opens with Godfrey reuniting with his old friend Jason “Mayhem” Miller and then telling a story of the time he had to fight someone outside the Comedy Cellar. This leads to a discussion about how great fighters - Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali & Adam Carolla - started boxing. Then Adam recounts the many run-ins with his childhood bully, Chris Dittman. After that Adam tests Godfrey's knowledge of old TV theme songs and they bond over their shared appreciation of Thin Lizzy. Next, Jayson “Mayhem” Miller begs to read the news including stories about Nvidia employees having to work insanely long hours but not quitting because of the “lavish” pay, LeBron James not allowing son Bronny to call him “Dad” on the court, a lonely dolphin attacking people in Japan, and an epic cobra vs. mongoose fight on an airport runway in India. Then, Godfrey talks about working with Robert Wagner on “A Dennis the Menace Christmas” which leads them down a long rabbit hole of TV & movie references and discussing what makes Godfrey able to retain information so well.
