The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations has now suggested in Estimates hearings that over 100,000 people may have had their Centrelink payments unlawfully cancelled under the Targeted Compliance Framework (TCF) – roughly 10 times the number the Department has publicly admitted. Jeremy discusses the hearings, the TCF, the creation of a new complaints service, and how to get support if you are affected by payment suspensions or cancellations.// As part of 3CR's 50th anniversary celebrations, we dive into the station's archives to take you back 26 years to a pivotal protest against the World Economic Forum, 11-13 September 2000, at the Crown Casino Complex in Melbourne. The s11 protest brought disparate organising groups together into a broad coalition against globalisation and multinational domination. 3CR covered the massive public opposition to the WEF and compiled highlights of the broadcasts on an award-winning 12-part CD, Globalisation Unplugged.// Christine Carolan, a member of Save Community Health, joined us again to unpack the recently released 'Review of Cohealth General Practice and Related Services, Final Report March 2026'. The Review was provided to the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, and the Victorian Department of Health in March and released publicly in June. Christine explains what the review found and recommended, why it is so significant, reactions to the report, and what comes next. Save Community Health is a community led campaign that receives no funding and is not affiliated with any political party or group. Contact them via email at savecommunityhealth@gmail.com and find out more on their website. Christine encouraged folks to email Health Minister Harriet Shing (contact details here) to demand that cohealth is appropriately resourced and governed to continue providing vital public health services to Melbourne's community.// Chris Ferric is a Naarm-based painter and portraitist whose artistic practice explores social change, collaboration, and developing accessible practices, as well as a member of Disabled People Against Cuts. They were of a group from Disabled People Against Cuts that addressed the public hearing for the Senate Inquiry into the NDIS Amendment Bill 2026 last week. We spoke with Chris about their experience at the public hearing, the dangers of using AI within the NDIS, and why the inquiry report has been delayed. Disabled People Against Cuts encourages people to meet with their local member and senators to ask them to insist on the withrdrawal of the bill. Macca and Paul talk to David Gibson about a bill introduced into Parliament to address the historic treatment of LGBTI personnel in the Australian Defence Force is being welcomed as a long-overdue step toward justice. The Defence Force Discipline Amendment (RCDVS Implementation) Bill 2026, introduced by Minister for Veterans' Affairs Matt Keogh, will enable eligible Defence personnel convicted solely on the basis of consensual homosexual activity to apply to have those convictions extinguished. “Chair of GRAI (GLBTI Rights in Ageing Inc), David Gibson, said the introduction of the legislation marks an important milestone in recognising the harm caused by past policies that targeted homosexual service members. “As a former Army officer who was discharged back in 1989 because of my sexuality, this is not just policy for me. It is personal,” Gibson said. “Careers were lost. Reputations were damaged. Many former personnel carried that trauma quietly for decades.” The post Sat, 30th, May, 2026: David Gibson, Chair GRAI in Perth, Fmr Army Captain, Dismissed for his Sexuality; Senate inquiry into the Defence Force Discipline Amendment appeared first on Saturday Magazine.

This week, Konrad's Senate inquiry testimony sparked a media firestorm, from "zinger box" clips on ABC to Sky News pundits losing their cool over his Parliament House t-shirt and supposed "grifter" status. While former Treasury Secretary Ken Henry and Senator Jacqui Lambie joined the "Legends List" by demanding the gas cartel "stop the crap" and pay their fair share, Shell executives were absolutely smoked, failing to explain why they paid zero PRRT despite billions in revenue. We're exposing the "Lobbyist Playable Characters" like Angus Taylor while celebrating legends like David Pocock and Ed Husic, all while fueling a $102,000 war chest for our May 8th Newcastle pub crawl to prove we should be taxing gas, not beer. This week, Albo dodges the gas tax question with a masterclass in political deflection, Channel 7 runs cover for fossil fuel interests, and the lobbyist war chest smashes through $96,000. We break down the propaganda playbook, expose corporate media conflicts of interest, and celebrate two massive high court wins that just struck down rigged election laws and anti protest powers. Albo's Gas Tax Dodge: Political Maneuver of the Week Triple J Hack asks the Prime Minister the question every punter wants answered: are you taxing gas exports? Albo responds with peak confused grandpa energy, saying "we'll have the budget next month" while physically turning away to invite the next question. We score the maneuver, break down why he's probably not taxing gas profits at all, and explain why punters should expect a useless windfall profits tax that targets zero dollars in actual profit because Santos and Woodside conveniently make nothing on paper. Channel 7's Fossil Fuel Propaganda Exposed Channel 7 reporter Liam Bartlett ambushes Environment Minister Chris Bowen, demanding he resign over his "renewables obsession". We watch the full unedited exchange, score the political maneuvers, and then reveal that Liam used to work as Global Head of TV Creative Visual at Shell International, Channel 7 is owned by billionaire Kerry Stokes who has major gas interests through SGH Energy and Beach Energy, and both companies pay around 2% to 5% tax while earning billions. Conspiracy or coincidence? Punters decide. High Court Strikes Down Rigged Election Laws & Anti Protest Powers Feel pepped, punters. The high court has struck down Victoria's rigged electoral donation laws that allowed major parties unlimited donations through nominated entities while capping independents at $5,000, and New South Wales anti protest laws that gave one police commissioner the power to block protests across huge chunks of Sydney. Both rulings confirm what punters already knew: politicians rig the system to protect themselves, and the courts are the last line of defense. Nanny State Alert: Cops Fine Superintendent for Riding a Bike South Australia's top traffic cop gets fined for using his phone while riding a 9 kilogram carbon road bike at 20 kilometers an hour after a Karen dug through his Strava and reported him. We sound the nanny state alarm, call out the absurdity of applying one and a half ton car rules to bicycles, and defend the superintendent even though he'd probably give us a ticket for the same thing. Konrad Goes to Canberra: Senate Inquiry Witness Konrad is heading to Canberra to testify as a witness in the Senate inquiry into gas taxes, courtesy of a loaned Polestar 4 from Whipsmart EV leasing. The lobbyist war chest now sits at $96,000, the free sauce campaign launches on Chuffed to put 200 stickered bottles into pie shops across Australia, and punters can now grab free source bottle stickers at punterspolitics.com. Titanic distress signals were seen from a nearby ship—but no rescue came. Why didn't they act? This true story reveals how uncertainty, not distance, changed everything.________________________________________ On April 14th, 1912, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and began to sink.Less than twenty miles away, another ship—the SS Californian—was stopped in the ice.Its crew saw the rockets. They watched for hours. And they did nothing. In this episode of An Ounce, we explore one of the most unsettling aspects of the Titanic disaster—not what people missed, but what they saw… and didn't understand. This is not a story about negligence. It's a story about uncertainty.Because sometimes, the difference between noticing something… and acting on it… isn't distance or darkness. It's doubt.________________________________________ If you value clear, honest storytelling about real events and the patterns behind them, consider subscribing—and share this with someone who appreciates history that makes you think.________________________________________

Throughout the 1990s he reported from Moscow for Green Left Weekly,  His article about reviving the vision of Green Steel in Whyalla prompted this interview. His conclusion is that public ownership isthe best way forward."Profit margins for steel firms are mostly wafer thin, and a buyer for the plant will not be easily found. The chances seem high that the complex, after being modernised at taxpayer expense, will again be sold off for a derisory sum.Worse, there is the real prospect that the only credible-seeming bidder will be another “adventure capitalist” such as Gupta.Re-establishing a viable steel industry in SA requires the kind of financial resources that the private sector is unlikely to want to risk. The only realistic source of this money is the public purse. But if taxpayers are to bear the cost, they are entitled to demand that the assets stay in public ownership.Further, the public are entitled to demand that the steel plant be saved as part of a rational plan that takes in the whole of the Northern Spencer Gulf industrial region, and that stresses new processes and highly productive, clean technologies". https://www.greenleft.org.au/content/why-whyalla-steelworks-must-be-publicly-owned Here's what you can do to support OCEAN's campaign against seismic blasting1. Join John and leading energy researcher Aidan Morrison as they outline why nuclear power should be at the centre of Australia's energy strategy. Aidan argues that modern nuclear technology is safe, and superior to renewables in terms of its reliability and cost. The discussion illuminates the misinformation which has characterised Australia's energy debate, calling for a shake-up in energy governance in order to ensure that policies are based on engineering and economic realities rather than distorted political narratives.   Aidan also debunks the popular belief that Australia's vast land and abundant sunshine make it uniquely suited for a wind and solar-powered grid, pointing out that these energy sources require massive infrastructure investments to be reliable. He suggests that ideological opposition and entrenched interests have prevented a rational discussion on nuclear power, despite its potential to provide affordable, clean, and secure energy.   Aidan Morrison is a leading researcher into Energy Systems and currently the Director of Energy Research at the Centre for Independent Studies. In 2023 he exposed how the famous CSIRO report “GenCost” excluded vast costs required to integrate and firm renewables by treating them as “sunk” costs. In 2024 he was amongst the strongest voices calling for nuclear energy in Australia and was a leading critic of the ‘Integrated System Plan' (or ISP): Australia's blue-print for a transition to an energy system dominated by wind and solar. Following the conclusion of a recent Senate Inquiry into Australia's energy planning and regulation, Aidan reached the conclusion that the ISP is “worse than useless” and declared that trust in Australia energy establishment is now so badly broken that a series of resignations will be required to restore the credibility and respect that regulatory organisations required to administer the energy system.

We explore the pivotal, yet often misunderstood, roles that pharmaceutical companies and the government play in this process and why modern menopause hormone therapy (MHT) hasn't yet made it to the PBS despite public demand.Delving deeper, we contrast MPA, a synthetic progestin, with body-identical progesterone and critique the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee's (PBAC) tendency to group these therapies together. This sheds light on the broader issue of insufficient research funding in women's health. As we look forward, our anticipation builds around the government's response to the Senate Inquiry report and its potential impacts on women's health policy, especially with an upcoming election.
