Salut à vous, C'est une histoire qui ressemble à tant d'autres. Celle d'un peuple dit "autochtone", spolié, privé de ses terres, de sa langue. Elle est universelle, et pourtant à chaque fois particulière. Celle d'aujourd'hui est racontée par la jeune poétesse Jacinta Kerketta, née en 1985 dans une tribu Adivasi, au Nord-Est de l'Inde. Ses poèmes sont ceux de son peuple, de ses combats, de ses traumas, de son histoire. Ce n'est pas de la poésie pour faire joli, mais pour témoigner, et ne rien lâcher. Ce recueil, Angor (qui veut dire "braise, colère") a paru en 2020 aux éditions Banyan, dans une traduction de Annie Montaut. Bonne écoute ! Nous sommes le 8 décembre 1965, à Rome, sur la place Saint-Pierre. Après trois longues années, le Concile Vatican II a enfin terminé ses travaux. Les cardinaux, les évêques et les prêtres sont souriants à la sortie de la messe du pape Paul VI qui clôture cet événement dont Charles de Gaulle disait qu’il avait été "le plus important du XXe siècle". Même si nous sommes à la fin de l’automne, le ciel est bleu. D’ailleurs, tout le monde considère l’événement comme un nouveau Printemps pour l’Eglise catholique. Un texte symbolise cette journée ensoleillée: la Constitution pastorale dont les deux premiers mots Gaudium et Spes signifient La joie et les espoirs. On en oublierait presque que juste après ces deux mots, suivent deux autres mots : Luctus et Angor, c’est-à-dire les angoisses et les peurs. Et il est vrai, qu’après cette journée ensoleillée, l’Eglise allait donner l’image d’une institution qui a peur d’elle-même. Trois années plus tard, la révolution de 1968 n’épargne pas l’église… En 1969, le journaliste Jacques Duquesne fait un état des lieux du catholicisme dans un article de l’hebdomadaire L’Express. Les fidèles écrit-il, « osent à peine dire qu’ils croient en Dieu. Ils ont abandonné tout prosélytisme. Ils subissent simplement celui des autres : les idéologies, les modes, les slogans. Lorsqu’ils se tournent vers leurs prêtres, ils découvrent des hommes hantés par l’idée d’accéder à ce monde du travail qu’eux, laïcs, connaissent bien. Et qu’ils jugent monotone. […] Pourtant, ils ont le sentiment de garder dans le secret de leur cœur un jeu de valeurs, une explication du monde plus solide qu’on ne le croit. Mais ils ne savent comment les formuler. Plus qu’une crise de la foi, c’est une crise du langage. Les mots ne transmettent plus rien. » Interrogé par Christophe Dickès, l'historien Guillaume Cuchet propose de comprendre comment ce processus de déchristianisation s’est développé dans son livre Comment notre monde a cessé d'être chrétien: quelle est la part du Concile Vatican II dans ce mouvement ? Ne doit-on pas chercher des causes bien plus lointaines à ce phénomène? En somme, la sociologie du catholicisme a-t-elle évolué avant les années soixante, dans la période d’après-guerre ? L'invité: Guillaume Cuchet est professeur d’histoire contemporaine à l’université Paris-Est Créteil. Il a notamment publié Penser le christianisme au XIXe siècle.
