In this encore episode, we discuss the role of histamine within the gastrointestinal tract, detailing its regulation of gastric acid secretion and impact on intestinal motility. We examine how histamine-producing enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells, mast cells, and gut microbiota contribute to histaminergic signaling, and how enzymatic degradation via diamine oxidase (DAO) maintains homeostasis. Additionally, we discuss histamine intolerance, highlighting the impacts of dysbiosis (as well as SIBO or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and intestinal barrier dysfunction on DAO insufficiency and histamine accumulation.Topics: 1. Introduction to Histamine & the Gastrointestinal Tract- Role in digestion and motility- Impact of intestinal conditions such as SIBO  2. Histamine as a Biogenic Amine- Definition and classification- L-histidine and histidine decarboxylase (HDC)- Presence in various tissues, including the GI tract 3. Sources of Histamine in the Gut- Enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells in the stomach- Mast cells in the lamina propria- Histamine-producing gut bacteria 4. Histamine's Role in Digestion & Gastric Acid Secretion- Interaction with parietal cells in the stomach- Activation of proton pumps via H₂ receptor binding- Maintenance of acidic pH for digestion- Importance of proper pH within the stomach for protecting against pathogenic microbes- Impact on downstream gut microbiota balance (e.g., SIBO) 5. Histamine & Intestinal Motility- Modulation of gut motility via H₁ and H₃ receptors- H₁ receptor activation leading to contractions (diarrhea, cramping)- H₃ receptor-mediated inhibition of neurotransmitter release (bloating, slow motility) 6. Histamine Intolerance: Definition & Mechanisms- Diamine Oxidase and histamine breakdown- DAO secretion by enterocytes (intestinal epithelial cells)- Enzymatic breakdown of histamine before absorption 7. Factors That Can Affect DAO Activity- Genetic Polymorphisms: AOC1 gene, reduced DAO expression- Cofactor Deficiencies: Copper, vitamin B6, and vitamin C as essential DAO cofactors- Importance of intestinal lining integrity for DAO production- Conditions leading to or associated with enterocyte damage- Intestinal dysbiosis and histamine accumulation- Intestinal dysbiosis & epithelial/enterocyte damage- Suppression of DAO production due to epithelial dysfunction- Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) & Histamine 8. Symptoms of Histamine Intolerance- Gastrointestinal symptoms (bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux...)- Systemic symptoms (dizziness, flushing, migraines...) 9. Egal ob Forschung zu Medikamenten oder zur Frage, wie schnell sich das Virus in der Bevölkerung ausbreitet: Studien zum Coronavirus kamen während der Pandemie hauptsächlich aus Ländern wie UK oder Israel. Was müsste anders laufen beim nächsten Mal? Adam Parker's story begins in the bustling corporate environment of London. The high-stress lifestyle took its toll, manifesting in poor digestion, anxiety, and low testosterone. Symptoms like hair loss and muscle loss not only affected his physical health but also his confidence and emotional well-being. Conventional medical treatments—ranging from steroid creams to antidepressants—offered temporary relief but failed to address the root cause. The Shift to Holistic Health Dissatisfied with allopathic solutions, Adam explored functional and holistic approaches. He experimented with various supplements and biohacks but found limited improvement. The game-changer came unexpectedly: a liver cleanse that highlighted the profound impact of detoxification. Adam realized that true healing involved removing toxins, not just adding nutrients. Key Insights on Detoxification Detox as a Pillar of Health: Detoxification is one of several pillars, alongside nutrition, sleep, community, and spiritual connection. Modern life exposes us to unprecedented levels of toxins, making detoxification essential. Individualized Detox Pathways: Everyone's detoxification journey is unique. Factors such as genetics, lifestyle, and childhood environment influence how effectively one can eliminate toxins. Understanding these factors helps tailor the detox process. Mind-Body Connection: Adam emphasizes the mental aspect of detox. Our belief systems and mindset play crucial roles in overall health. Controlling external inputs — such as avoiding mainstream news — can help maintain positive mental energy. The Detoxification Process Toxin Storage: The body stores toxins in layers—blood, fat, tissue, and organs. When overwhelmed, it opts to store toxins rather than eliminate them. Herxheimer Reactions: Detoxing can temporarily cause flu-like symptoms as toxins release. Retracement reactions can also resurface old symptoms and emotions. Role of Binders: Substances like bentonite clay and zeolite help bind and safely remove toxins. Gut and Liver Health: The Foundations Colon Health: Importance: The colon is a primary detoxification pathway. Regular bowel movements are essential (at least once daily). Methods: Traditional colonics are effective but costly. Enzyme-based cleanses, like Zen Cleanse, efficiently remove mucoid plaque, reducing inflammation and improving nutrient absorption. Liver Health: Central Role: The liver performs over 500 functions and processes all toxins. Supporting liver health is crucial for overall detoxification. Approaches: Basic support includes herbs like milk thistle and dandelion root. Deeper cleanses address the liver's core issues, crucial in a world filled with heavy metals, EMFs, and chemical overloads. Practical Steps for Detox and Wellness Clean Your Environment: Assess personal care products, air quality, and EMF exposure. Gut-Healing Foods: Introduce bone broth, fermented foods, and other gut-friendly items. Balance and Flexibility: Build a strong foundation, but allow occasional indulgences. Adam Parker's Philosophy: Empowerment and Critical Thinking Adam's mission is to educate clients, empowering them to share knowledge with their families. He encourages skepticism—questioning mainstream narratives and even his advice. Intuition and personal research are key to making informed decisions about health. Final Thoughts: The Holistic Path to Health Detoxification is more than a physical cleanse; it's a comprehensive journey involving the mind, body, and emotions. With dedication and a systematic approach, it can transform well-being. True health recovery requires self-awareness, education, and an unwavering commitment to the process—values at the core of Adam Parker's philosophy.   EPISODE RESOURCES: Instagram

We're more disconnected from Nature and our intuition than ever. We've forgotten how to connect to our innate wisdom and how to honor the cycles of nature, whether it's the seasons, our moon cycle or the cycles of the day. It's harder than ever to know how to nourish our bodies, what to do when we are sick, and we're overstimulated through technology and fear all day everyday.  My goal is to help you quiet down the internal and external noises that prevent you from having clear communication with your inner knowing and learning the subtle language of your body, to find a space of inner and outer alignment, and manifest from that place.   Eva Hooft's Website: https://www.evahooft.com/   Work With Me: Mineral Balancing HTMA Consultation: https://www.integrativethoughts.com/category/all-products  My Instagram: @integrativematt My Website: Integrativethoughts.com   Advertisements:   Viva Rays: Use Code ITP for a Discount https://vivarays.com/   Zeolite Labs Zeocharge: Use Code ITP for 10% off https://www.zeolitelabs.com/product-page/zeocharge?ref=ITP Magnesium Breakthrough: Use Code integrativethoughts10 for 10% OFF https://bioptimizers.com/shop/products/magnesium-breakthrough Just Thrive: Use Code ITP15 for 15% off https://justthrivehealth.com/discount/ITP15 Therasage: Use Code Coffman10 for 10% off https://www.therasage.com/discount/COFFMAN10?rfsn=6763480.4aed7f&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=6763480.4aed7f   Chapters: 00:00 Introduction and Background 06:33 The Influence of Emotional Health on Physical Health 16:21 The Transformative Power of Enzyme-Based Cleanses 23:19 The Importance of Grounding and Balance in Health 28:22 Balancing the Physical and Non-Physical Aspects of Well-being 29:22 The Release of Liver Flukes and Parasites during Liver Cleanses 30:19 The Importance of Balancing the Internal Ecosystem 34:52 The Risks of Excessive Liver Flushing and Fasting 38:12 Supporting the Nervous System for Effective Detoxification 41:29 The Benefits of Mineral Balancing and Gut Cleansing 49:46 The Dangers of Neuroticism and Over-Reliance on Biohacking 53:53 The Dangers of Excessive Biohacking and the Importance of Listening to the Body 58:18 The Impact of Emotional Health on Relationships and Overall Well-being 01:06:50 The Role of Emotional Release and Processing in Healing and Transformation 01:09:16 Integrating Emotional Work with Physical Detoxification for Profound Healing 01:14:17 Clearing Subconscious Beliefs and Traumas for Inner Conflict Resolution   Takeaways: Emotional and psychological factors can have a significant impact on physical health. Enzyme-based cleanses, such as the Zen Cleanse, can be transformative for gut health and overall well-being. Grounding and balance are important in one's approach to health and detoxification. Addressing the emotional, mental, and energetic levels is just as important as focusing on the physical body for overall well-being. Liver cleanses can lead to the release of liver flukes and parasites, but it's crucial to balance and change the internal ecosystem before addressing parasites. Excessive liver flushing and fasting may have potential risks and can deplete the body of essential fluids and minerals. Supporting the nervous system is essential for effective detoxification and overall health. Mineral balancing and gut cleansing can be beneficial before embarking on more intense detox protocols. The health industry's obsession with biohacking practices can lead to neuroticism and over-reliance on external interventions. Excessive biohacking practices can be dangerous and lead to physical and emotional harm. Listening to the body's needs and finding a balance between different practices is crucial for overall well-being. Emotional release and processing are essential for healing and transformation, as stored emotions and trauma can impact physical health. Integrating emotional work with physical detoxification can lead to profound healing and increased energy. Clearing subconscious beliefs and traumas from the body can help resolve inner conflicts and improve relationships with oneself and others.   Keywords: health space, modeling industry, emotional health, physical health, detoxification, enzyme-based cleanses, Zen Cleanse, gut health, grounding, balance, physical body, emotional work, mental work, energetic level, liver cleanses, liver flukes, parasites, internal ecosystem, nervous system, mineral balancing, gut cleansing, fasting, detox, biohacking, biohacking, dangers, listening to the body, cold plunges, emotional release, processing, subconscious beliefs, traumas, physical detoxification, healing, transformation

Movers and Shakers: a podcast about life with Parkinson's

Every hero needs a sidekick: Batman and Robin, the Lone Ranger and Tonto, Ronald McDonald and Grimace. And, in Parkinson's world, if Levodopa is the crime-fighting vigilante, then enzyme blockers (or inhibitors) are keeping the seats warm in the Batmobile. To discuss the vital role that this group of drugs play, the Movers and Shakers are joined in the pub by Professor Peter Jenner, a pharmacological expert, and Lynn Guldin, a new PhD student looking into Parkinson's treatments.Presented by Rory Cellan-Jones, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Mark Mardell, Paul Mayhew-Archer, Sir Nicholas Mostyn and Jeremy Paxman.Produced and edited by Nick Hilton for Podot.Sound mixing by Ewan Cameron.Music by Alex Stobbs.Artwork by Till Lukat.PR by Sally Jones. Some debate that synthetic organic chemistry strategies have become stale, but Dr. Todd Hyster of Princeton University's Hyster Lab disagrees.Todd fell in love with organic chemistry early in his education, but it wasn't until he got turned on to enzyme catalysis that he found his true calling. He's built a career using engineered enzymes to facilitate chemical transformations that would otherwise not be possible. Specifically, he and his team focus on photo-enzymatic catalysis where they use a combination of light and engineered proteins to drive new chemical transformations.Join us to learn about his work, the methods involved, and the types of transformations being accomplished, which is beyond enantioselective synthesis, by the way. This stimulating conversation delves into the tactical and philosophical aspects of the synthetic chemistry, enzyme catalysis, and even the realities of academic funding and industry collaboration. Related episodes: Season 3, Ep.2: Making impossible moleculesSeason 2, Ep.3: Rethinking catalysisBonus content!Access bonus content curated by this episode's guest by visiting www.thermofisher.com/chemistry-podcast for links to recent publications, podcasts, books, videos and more.View the video of this episode on www.thermofisher.com/chemistry-podcast.A free thank you gift for our listeners! Request your free Bringing Chemistry to Life t-shirt on our episode website.Use code BCTLisn3R in September, and cHeMcas+ng in October We read every email so please share your questions and feedback with us! Do you sometimes experience stomach issues after you eat? Are you familiar with enzymes and why are they so important to our bodies? Today on the show Lisa talks with Lita Lee, Ph.D. She is a chemist, enzyme therapist, nutritionist, author, and lecturer who has been in private practice for several decades. Her book is “The Enzyme Cure.” Dr. Lee talks about plant enzymes – what they are, how they can help us, and how they may be the most overlooked link to our good health. The right plant enzymes can help reverse asthma, cancer, diabetes, herpes, kidney stones, menopausal symptoms, weight problems, and dozens of other common disorders. Dr. Lee also discusses the dangers of microwaving food and how the radiation alters the vitamins and nutrients in the food. She talks about fluoride in our waters and how that causes disease. She also addresses diabetes and explains how white sugars are detrimental to our health, as well as why there is an epidemic of thyroid disorders. She suggests eating raw organic foods, coconut oil, and whole foods, which are all excellent for our health. She asks us to find out what enzyme we may be lacking and then suggests taking a multiple digestive enzyme. Dr. Lee received a doctorate in chemistry in 1967 from the University of Colorado in Boulder and spent the early years of her career as a research chemist at SRI International in Menlo Park, California. Her interest in nutrition, environmental health, and natural organic foods led her from the chemistry laboratory into clinical practice in 1984. Dr. Lee's strong scientific background qualifies her work as an enzyme therapist, particularly her specialty of developing nutritional protocols for balancing body chemistry, with a focus on enzyme nutrition, hormonal balancing, diet, and protection from environmental toxins.   Info: LitaLee.com

[originally published on Patreon January 5, 2024] Today I'm joined by Reid (@seriations) to continue our conversation about Ira 'the Unicorn' Einhorn. We get into Einhorn's relationship to Andrija Puharich, his involvement with Earth Day, Bell Telephone company, and the development of "Einhorn's Network". Reid explains the importance of the Diebold Corporation and how this all might be a sophisticated method of OSINT and espionage, among whatever else it may have been. Note: in the episode, Reid said that he hadn't nailed down the name of the guy who introduced Einhorn, and mistakenly said that Geller was introduced via an American army attaché. Reid later found that this was Paul Henshaw, the head biophysicist for the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1947, Henshaw was on the US scientific team that studied radiation after-effects in Hiroshima. This same Henshaw introduced Ira Einhorn to Andrija Puharich. Geller was introduced to Puharich by Itzhak Bentov, an Israeli scientist, army officer, and mystic.
