Reconstruction Lecture By Dr. Bobby J. Donaldson Dr. Donaldson is Currently, Professor Donaldson leads the Center for Civil Rights History and Research, housed in the Hollings Special Collections Library. He also serves as the lead scholar for Columbia SC 63: Our Story Matters, a documentary history initiative that chronicles the struggle for civil rights and social justice in Columbia. Presently, Donaldson is completing a monograph entitled “‘In Our Own Defense': New Negro Intellectuals in the Jim Crow South.” The project critiques the varied and often competing rhetorical, ideological, and political strategies black intellectuals in Georgia employed as they battled white supremacy and negotiated African Americans' precarious “place” in both the South and the nation. He is also conducting research on a biography of William Jefferson White, a political activist, Baptist minister and journalist, who founded Morehouse College in 1867. ASCAC provides a body of knowledge that continuously contributes to the rescue, reconstruction, and restoration of African history and culture. Our purpose is to promote the study of African civilizations for the development of an African world view. Our aim is to build African centered study groups and strengthen existing institutions. Our goal is to provide excellence in all dimensions of our association. Our strategy is to use our accumulated knowledge for the liberation of African people wherever they may be. Our commitment is to the truth. Our achievements and accomplishments will provide the resources necessary for ASCAC to grow and be recognized as a world class African organization.
Descriptors such as jungle music, negro music, jazz...African American Classical Music. Black Classical Music. Spirit Music...and African Rhythms...have been attached to the vibrational human expressions, that once organized into various rhythms, notes, and harmonies become what we have come to call—music. The deep structures that organize these vibrations have purpose. They have origin. They have life. They represent life. They aide us through life. They are bridges between and expressions of worlds seen and worlds unseen. They are all around us. Exploring the form and functions of African rhythms and all that they contribute to our world are part and parcel of understanding the interconnections between the material and nonmaterial, and how they inform each other. This past April 2019, at the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilization's (ASCAC) meeting held at Medgar Evers College in New York, a discussion titled African Rhythms: A Workshop on Cultural Continuity and the Future of Jazz, was developed to explore what was laid out above. Who you will hear next in order of speaker, the wide-ranging discussion from this meeting: George Turner is a longtime activist from Brooklyn, NY and currently serves on the Board of ASCAC. Hank Williams is a jazz writer and radio host and professor at Lehman College. Dr. Anyabwile Love is an assistant professor of Black Studies at the Community College of Philadelphia and a scholar of John Coltrane. Dr. Josh Myers (AWNP Collective, is assistant professor of Africans Studies at Howard University. Our show was produced today in solidarity with the Native/Indigenous, African, and Afro Descendant communities at Standing Rock; Venezuela; Cooperation Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi; Brazil; the Avalon Village in Detroit; Colombia; Kenya; Palestine; South Africa; and Ghana and other places who are fighting for the protection of our land for the benefit of all peoples!

So as many of our regular listeners know, I was given the opportunity to present at this years ASCAC (Association for the Study of Classical Afrikan Civilizations) Conference. My talk was entitled SPIRITUAL WARFARE: RECLAIMING OUR ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC AFRIKAN SPIRITUALITY BY DETACHING THE AFRIKAN SOUL FROM CHRISTIANITY. Due to time constraints I was not able to deliver the entire 21 page presentation therefore it was HEAVILY truncated. Tonight, I will give the entire talk. Shortly thereafter, I will take this talk and fuse it with the powerpoint presentation I had & place it on our youtube page, so everyone will have the whole thing & have a nice warehouse of REFERENCED, RESEARCHED information for you, dear listeners, to be able to, as Boukman of the Haitian Revolution told the people of Haiti before they defeated the french, THROW AWAY THE IMAGE OF THE WHITE MAN'S GOD. I will also share my reflections on the conference as a whole. This hopefully will be a highly downloaded show.
The incomparable DR. GREG KIMATHI CARR, head of Howard's Afro-american studies department will be LIVE on our show tonight to speak & answer your questions. He will answer questions about ASCAC, its future & its relevance to the global Afrikan community; deconstruct the MYTHOLOGY of moorish-ness superceding Afrikaness; why we must identify as Afrikans to save ourselves in the immediate future & what that identification does for us, and many more insights will be shared by this 'new jack scholar.' CALL IN WITH YOUR QUESTIONS 760-454-1111 & press 1 to be placed in the call queue to be heard on AFRIKA'S REASCENTION!!!!
Tuesday thru Saturday @9pm est, we will be sharing lectures, past interviews, kwk. of our guest for Sunday Feb 19, DR. GREG KIMATHI CARR, the chair of the Afro-american studies department at Howard University. This GETTING TO KNOW DR. GREG KIMATHI CARR SERIES is to acquaint or better acquaint all of our listeners with the thoughts & ideas of Baba Kimathi so YOU will have magnificent questions to ask as YOU call in @ 760-454-1111 on sunday feb 19th @ 9pm est. Our 1st selection is from the recent 2011 ASCAC Conference entitled SMART POWER in the Era of Africana Studies. I would like to thank voxunion.com for archiving it & sharing it with the Afrika's Reascention listening audience.
Baba Jedi Shemsu Jhwty (aka Dr. Jacob Carruthers) in an ASCAC lecture he did back in the 1990's (gregorian calendar) talked about a classification of individuals within the stolen Afrikan camps, that get little attention. These black-skinned individuals, SOUND Afrocentric & pro-Black, but when one really, really listens to their rhetoric, all they are really doing is demanding inclusion on their terms within the caucasoid reality. They will scream to wear Afrikan clothes, have Afrikan styled hair, have Afrikan cultural names within the caucasoid reality--AND THAT IS THE TOTALITY OF THEIR FIGHT! They are not about nation building...they may just want to be seen as Afrikan (surface level cultural structure only) and will loudly protest for certain things, only within caucasoid reality. There is another faction of this ilk, who really don't want ANYTHING to do with this--as they would say--"Afrikan shyt." They vocally question anyone who professes a return to Afrikan cultural ways to move forward, because they themselves fear & hate Afrika & deeply still--while sounding Afrocentric all at the same time--want acceptance from & within caucasoid society & reality. Both of these variants of Militant Integrationalists are usually hard to spot. It takes a discerning ear as well as clarity of the Afrikan world view to spot these ProBlack/Afrocentric IMPOSTERS out. The hope of this show will be to share the descriptions & how you can spot these imposters and properly steer away from them.
Today, if the Wu Tang interview doesn't happen, we might actually pull something from the archives, maybe my interview with Dr. Lonnie Smith or Donald Harrison. It didn't happen. Instead we spoke to Robert H. King, former political prisoner, Angola 3, and author of the new autobiography, "From the Bottom of the Heap" (PM Press). We also spoke to Gail Shaw, MD, co-founder of itsabouttimebpp.com, an archive and educational organization dedicated to the preservation of Black Pather Party history. They updated us on Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox's cases. Plus Herman's health. I was to speak to Christian Scott, musician currently in town at Yoshi's Jack London Square, and we'll have to reschedule during his California Tour. The New Orleans native, is on tour with a new CD/DVD "Live at Newport," wonderful product! We closed the show with a track dedicated to Scott's dear friend, who was killed on his wedding day, "Died in Love." Friday, Dec. 5 is still up in the air. What I know for sure is we'll be speaking to someone from ASCAC regarding the conference, maybe Cecil Brown about his Pen Oakland Award. Tune in, it's always fun. I would love to have Sister Souljah on the air. She's here this weekend. We'll also be speaking with honorees and devorah major, who will deliver the key note address at Pen Oakland Awards; other guests include Peter Fitzsimon, who is curator of the Jazz Heritage Center, and the Lush Life Gallery in San Francisco, along with John Handy, muscian and scholar, Lewis Watts, photographer and professor, and Raja Rahim, vocalist. The morning show concludes with a conversation with Boots of the Coup.
