Today, on Karl and Crew, we took an inward approach as we kicked off our weekly theme of "Mindset" with a discussion on mind renewal. As followers of Jesus, our minds are renewed as we draw nearer to Him because we shed our worldly thought processes to have Spirit-led thoughts. This transformation is necessary for believers because it allows us to mentally align with God’s will. We learned in Romans 12:2 that the Lord doesn’t want us to conform to the world but to be set apart, and to do this; we have to get rid of those ungodly thoughts. One of our guests, Asheritah Ciuciu, shared with us how she cast down those thoughts and replaced them with the delight of the Lord. Asheritah founded One Thing Alone Ministries and has authored several books, including “Delighting in Jesus- Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned-Out.” Pastor Dr. Erwin Lutzer also shared insight on shifting our thinking to biblical thoughts. Pastor Lutzer is an award-winning author of numerous books, pastor, and speaker. He also is a featured speaker on two radio programs with Moody Church Media. There's a question at the heart of the new book “Delighting in Jesus” that caught my attention: it says, “I know I should read by Bible and pray every day, but I'm just not consistent. For many Christians, ‘daily devotions' and ‘spiritual disciplines' strike guilt and shame in our hearts. But what if we got it all wrong? What if our Christian experience hinges not on perfect spiritual disciplines, but on the perfect love of a Father who delights in us?” This has been a topic I've been interested in for a while now: what does relationship with Jesus really mean. And now there's a new word entering the conversation: delight. We often talk about joy or happiness, but I'm so grateful to my guest today, Asheritah Ciuciu, for focusing in on the word delight. Asheritah is the host of the Prayers of Rest Podcast and author of many books including Full, Bible & Breakfast, Walking with God, and her latest, Delighting in Jesus. In this conversation, Asheritah and I talk about why “delight” is an important word when thinking about our relationship with Jesus, why we don't need to be afraid of being broken, how to build your joy center in your brain, and much more. I want to note too, in the show notes for episode you'll find links to purchase Delighting in Jesus (which I highly recommend) and also a link to a devotional personality quiz that will help you understand better how God created you to feel most connected to him. I hope you enjoy both of these resources. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. It premiered in 2017 and now offers more than 400 episodes. Have you ever felt burdened, broken, or burned out? If so, you’re not alone. This week on The Love Offering podcast, I had the joy of sitting down with bestselling author Asheritah Ciuciu to discuss her new book, Delighting in Jesus: Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned Out. In our conversation, Asheritah shares how life’s challenges—family dynamics, overcommitment, and external pressures—can rob us of the joy God desires for us. But the good news is that joy is not only possible but restorable. Here are some of the takeaways from our time together: Joy is cultivated by spending time with Jesus, who is the ultimate source of delight. Burnout often stems from overcommitment and misplaced priorities, but God offers rhythms of restoration. Neuroplasticity shows us that we can retrain our minds to seek and experience joy through intentional spiritual habits. Asheritah outlines five powerful rhythms for joy: worship, word, whisper, wonder, and walking. This conversation was a gentle reminder that we don’t have to navigate burnout and exhaustion alone. By turning to Jesus and adopting these life-giving rhythms, we can rediscover joy, even in the most difficult seasons. I pray Asheritah’s insights inspire you as much as they did me. Let’s commit to finding joy in Jesus together and allowing His presence to transform our daily lives. With love and gratitude,Rachael P.S. Have you ever desperately wondered: “Where did my joy go? And how do I get it back?” If yes, you're in good company, friend.Today's prayer of REST is based on Jude 1:24-25: 24: "To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen." This season, we're asking God to restore to us the joy of our salvation, and each week we'll base our prayers on a different Bible passage that speaks of joy. Together, we'll ask the Lord to do a new work in our hearts as we: Recite God's GoodnessExpress Our NeedinessSeek His Stillness, and Trust His FaithfulnessThroughout these guided prayers episodes and their corresponding “Behind-the-Scenes Conversations” with Asheritah and Hannah, you'll discover God's promise of delight to His children and learn how to claim His joy as your birthright—the promised fruit from God's Spirit as we invite Him to do His good work in us.This season of Praying for Joy is based on my brand new book – Delighting in Jesus: Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned-Out, which is now available wherever books are sold. What comes to mind when you think about walking with God? Throughout history, God has always desired companionship and friendship with the humans He created in His own image. I like to picture this dynamic of friendship and obedience as Walking with God. Every email, every conference call, every meal prepped, every floor swept has the capacity to hold divine purpose because we are divinely indwelled by God's own Spirit. Even when sin marred humans' relationship with God, He remained undeterred in His desire to walk with us.When we truly understand the privilege of walking with God in our daily lives, our mundane becomes contoured by the divine. Let's turn to the example of Jesus to learn from Him how to joyfully walk with God. Listen in! If you're super busy, overstimulated, and on the path of burnout, the number one thing that will turn that around is… awe and wonder. Does this surprise you too?! It's not checking everything off your list – because eventually more will be added in. It's not a spreadsheet that organizes all the details – because our days often don't go as planned. Instead, the reminder of greatness and beauty is what can stop us in our tracks and shift everything.Think about standing in front of the Grand Canyon, standing at the water's edge and watching the ocean waves, or holding a newborn baby. Whether big or small, when we experience awe and wonder, everything stills and, as a study proves, we discover unexpected joy and healing. Listen in as Asheritah and Hannah dive deep into an honest conversation about how we can have more WONDER in our daily life.MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:My brand new book – Delighting in Jesus: Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned-Out https://amzn.to/3Zb5HAiEphesians 1:17-19Asheritah and Hannah are hosting a FREE Online Book Club starting in January 2025. What image comes to mind when you hear the word prayer? What if prayer became less of a regular spiritual chore and more of a conversational friendship with God? What if God invites us to an ongoing exchange of whispers throughout our day—us whispering to Him and Him whispering right back to our hearts? What if our prayer lives reflected equitable amounts of both talking and listening? In those places in our lives where we feel burdened, broken, or burned-out, God invites us into this rhythm of ongoing communion with Him. And as we commune with God, conversing with Him throughout our day, He will restore our joy. The way we approach reading the Bible NOW is usually not how Jesus Himself approached the Word of God! Yes, a daily “quiet time” is a beautiful thing. But up until about 400 years ago, Christians did not have personal Bibles in their homes! What can we learn from them, and what can we learn from the ways Jesus delighted in the Word? As a human, He took on all the limitations of flesh, which means when He was memorizing Deuteronomy (when Satan tempts Him, Jesus quotes Deuteronomy three times!), He had to learn like every other human child does. In Scripture, we see that Jesus listened to, memorized, sang, spoke, and taught the Word.MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:My brand new book – Delighting in Jesus: Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned-Out https://amzn.to/3Zb5HAiJohn 1:14Romans 6:23Simply Bible: https://www.simplybiblestudy.org/John 5:39John 15:26-27John 16:12-13Join the FREE Online Book Club with Asheritah and Hannah: https://www.delightinginjesus.com/bookclubNow through Christmas, we have thank-you gifts for everyone who orders Delighting in Jesus! We tend to think of worship as the singing that happens in church on Sunday mornings. Some of us enjoy that more than others, and it's easy to dismiss worship as something a worship team does. But the biblical view of worship is actually much broader and encompasses all of life, not just the singing parts. For those in the kingdom of God, all of life is sacred, and all of life is worship. How we live, how we work, how we parent, how we eat, how we love, how we play, how we make out or make up . . . it's all worship. Or, it can be, if it's offered as a gift to the One who made us and delights in us. “Ironically, in suffering I've found the presence of Jesus in a way that is delightful… not in exuberant rejoicing, but in quietly being held, supported, and lifted up when I have nothing left to give.”Your heavenly Father delights in you even when you are at your lowest. In your pain, your heartache, your sorrow and your disappointment… yes, even there, you are wanted and wildly loved. Friend, you don't have to hide or hold back until you don't feel like a burden. You don't have to wait until you're only feeling joyful in order to talk to God. We have a Savior who promises to be near to the brokenhearted, and He longs to hear your lament. In fact, it brings Him joy to come near to you, to work in you, and to work through you.The episode ends with a beautiful prayer, and throughout we talk about the goodness available to us right here and right now (not just one day in heaven!) even in the middle of great suffering, but at the beginning we want you to know: When things are hard, when things fall apart, when you feel burdened by the diagnosis or the endless to-dos or a broken relationship… there is hope, and Hope is holding you in your sorrow.P.S. Don't miss Hannah's powerful story about a prayer that changed her life. What a touching moment and a gentle challenge to go and do the same.MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:My brand new book – Delighting in Jesus: Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned-Out https://amzn.to/3Zb5HAiPhilippians 3:10John 10:101 Corinthians 2:16Patreon prayer partners: https://www.patreon.com/prayersofrestDelightingInJesus.com FREE RESOURCES:✅ JUMPSTART YOUR BIBLE STUDY HABITBible study doesn't have to be complicated or overwhelming. Read your Bible. Pray. Fast. Be in community. Share the Gospel. Worship. Go to church. Tithe. The list goes on and on! Spiritual disciplines can quickly feel like a burden, like something we're failing at, or like one more thing on our to do list.Guess what? You won't find “read your Bible and pray every day” in the Bible! There is no “one right way” to connect with God because God created us one of a kind. All of these things matter, but it's time that we talk about the problem with spiritual disciplines and the FREEDOM that is ours in Christ Jesus. What's more important: How we view God… or how God views us? A.W. Tozer and C.S. Lewis disagreed, and their thoughts sparked a powerful conversation about how too many of us have turned the Good News of the Gospel into “sin management.”What actually IS the Gospel? “Sinners in the hands of an angry God” is one of the most well-known sermons of all time… but from cover to cover of Scripture, from the Garden of Eden to the marriage supper of the Lamb in Revelation, JOY is central to the Gospel. If you're afraid or worried that God is angry with you, if you're anxious because of God's wrath, there's really good news in this truth:Scripture says that Jesus came to make manifest what has always been true about God the Father. What we see in Jesus' life in the gospels – the way that He reaches out to people, the way He sacrificially loves and serves and seeks out the person who is lost, the way that He wept and danced and chose a wedding party for His first miracle – shows us that we have a JOYful God.MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:My brand new book – Delighting in Jesus: Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned-Out https://amzn.to/3Zb5HAiJohn 1:181 Peter 1:3-4Psalm 37:11Matthew 5:5Hebrews 7:25Hebrews 4:14-16Patreon prayer partners: https://www.patreon.com/prayersofrestDelightingInJesus.comThe Bible Project https://bibleproject.com/FREE RESOURCES:✅ JUMPSTART YOUR BIBLE STUDY HABITBible study doesn't have to be complicated or overwhelming. That’s what happens we make prayer a ritual, something we have to do. Something we feel we’ve got to get just right, or it won’t count. That’s religion, and religion always gets in the way of experiencing the love of Jesus. Wife, mom, author, and speaker Asheritah Ciuciu joins the podcast to help us jettison religion and learn to delight in Jesus! Perry shares how he deeply connected with Jesus last Saturday evening but wonders with Asheritah how he can experience that more often. Perry and Asheritah share about how prayer can get in the way of delighting in Jesus. When we look at prayer as a to do list. Then a huge barrier to delighting in Jesus is burnout. What do we do when we have zero energy for prayer? And Lucy, a Perry and Shawna listener asks, “When I stop doing, doing, doing, how do I get past the feeling that I should be doing something?” Asheritah reminds us of the truth that frees us from our frenzy! Also in this episode, Perry shares, “I have learned through my journey how to forgive myself, how to accept the forgiveness that Jesus offers that has no fine print.”Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
What if there was a simple tool that could transform your prayer life? In this episode, Asheritah and her friend Jani Ortlund talk about a simple notebook format that took what Jani calls “a scattered prayer life” and turned it into a powerful conversation with Jesus. They also talk about how to handle times of spiritual dryness, why Jani believes “PUSHY” prayers are Scriptural prayers, and how her mother-in-law's candor invited Jani into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Jani Ortlund, the Vice President of Renewal Ministries, loves connecting women with the Word of God. Serving Christ through writing, speaking and discipling is her chief passion in life. Jani, who podcasts at herestoresmysoul.org, and Ray, the President of Renewal Ministries, have four married children and fifteen grandchildren. Val Marie Paper | Prayer JournalSupport the Show.
