Do you ever feel really anxious about a potential health issue? Maybe you Google your symptoms frequently. Or maybe you ask for constant reassurance or just keep checking on the same spot that hurts to see if it feels better. Health anxiety is a common problem but sometimes people are embarrassed to talk about. But, there are some strategies that can help you regain control over your time and mental energy so you stop worrying about your health. Some of the things I talk about are: The four ways health anxiety shows up "Cyberchondria," and the research showing how quickly an everyday symptom turns into something rare and terrifying in your search results. Last week, we talked about how unresolved trauma can keep our nervous systems stuck in a constant state of alert, even when we're no longer in danger. So the question naturally becomes:What can we do in those moments when we feel our stress or anxiety taking over? The truth is, stress itself isn't the enemy.Life will always bring deadlines, difficult conversations, and unexpected challenges. The problem is when our bodies never get the chance to recover.Instead of completing the stress response, many of us simply distract ourselves, with our phones, food, work, or endless busyness, while our nervous system remains switched on. Over time, that chronic stress can affect our physical health, cloud our thinking, and make it harder to show up well in our relationships. In this week's episode, I'm sharing one of my favorite practical tools: a simple breathing technique called the physiological sigh. It takes less than 90 seconds, can be done almost anywhere, and helps calm your nervous system by completing your body's stress response. I'll also share a simple framework for understanding stress so you can begin responding to it with more confidence, rather than just reacting to it.Episode Timestamps00:50 — Why stress is normal (and why chronic stress isn't)01:27 — A simple technique to calm your nervous system in real time03:10 — What animals can teach us about completing the stress response04:17 — Why distractions don't actually reduce stress05:20 — A simple framework for managing stress anywhere07:12 — The science behind the physiological sigh09:06 — How to practice the breathing technique correctly10:40 — When to use it in everyday lifeThe goal isn't to eliminate stress. It's to give your body the chance to recover from it.Sometimes, creating more calm doesn't require changing your circumstances, it starts with taking one intentional breath. If you'd like to go deeper...The physiological sigh is one powerful tool—but it's just one piece of the puzzle.Inside our free Relationship Mastery for Physicians community on Skool, we share practical tools to help you regulate your nervous system, strengthen your relationships, and become less reactive to life's everyday stressors. If you'd like to continue learning alongside us, we'd love to have you join.Join the community here:https://www.skool.com/relationshipmastery4physiciansI hope to see you there.

Hi Parents! In today's episode, I'm joined by Monica Packer, host of the About Progress podcast, certified habits and identity coach, and author of Sticky Habits: A Woman's Guide to Reclaim Happiness, Ditch Perfectionism, and Create Habits That Last. Monica shares powerful insight into how perfectionism and all-or-nothing thinking show up in both teens and adults, and why this mindset often fuels anxiety, avoidance, and emotional overwhelm. We talk about what she calls the “Hidden Habit Saboteur” and how it quietly impacts motivation, confidence, and follow-through in teens who feel like anything less than perfect is failure.  We also explore how parents can shift the way they respond to mistakes, grades, and setbacks by helping teens see them as part of growth rather than evidence of failure. Monica shares practical ways to model progress over perfection at home so teens can build confidence through lived experience, not pressure. If you've ever watched your teen shut down because something felt too overwhelming or avoid trying altogether because they were afraid of not doing it right, this episode will give you a new lens for understanding what's really going on underneath the behaviour. Craig is the founder of Arizona Integrative Hypnotherapy and has spent over a decade helping people work with the subconscious mind to shift patterns around stress, anxiety, trauma, and confidence through clinical hypnotherapy and neuroscience-based techniques.   What You Will Learn in This Episode: Why the subconscious mind governs nearly all of our behaviors and how to bridge the gap between your logical goals and emotional reactions. How childhood survival strategies (like staying "small" or "quiet") become outdated "computer code" in adulthood and how to rewrite them. Why hypnosis isn't about losing control or "barking like a dog," but rather quieting the conscious mind to access your internal healing power. Today on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme, “Get It Off (Clutter and Time Management).” We were joined by Asheritah Ciuciu, who walked us through how to build a meaningful devotional life with God—not just gaining knowledge about Him, but developing a personal relationship with Him. Asheritah is a national speaker, bestselling author, and founder of One Thing Alone Ministries. You can find her on YouTube through Delighting in Jesus: Guided Prayers and Bible Study Tips. She is also the author of “Unwrapping the Names of Jesus: An Advent Journal.” We also spoke with Dr. Charles Stone about how to de-stress, identify negative emotions, and begin working through them. Dr. Stone recently completed his role as lead pastor of West Park Church in London, Ontario, Canada, a multicultural congregation with over a thousand attendees, and now serves as a coach consultant to pastors and leaders. He is also the author of “Stress Less: 9 Habits from the Bible and Brain Science to Build Resilience and Reduce Anxiety.” Jordan Raynor joined us to discuss how to maximize productivity in a humble, Christ-like way. Jordan is a leading voice in the faith and work movement and has helped millions connect the gospel to their work. He is the author of “Redeeming Your Time: 7 Biblical Principles for Being Purposeful, Present, and Wildly Productive.” Jordan serves as the Executive Chairman of Threshold 360, a venture-backed tech startup he previously led as CEO. Rest is something every human needs to thrive, experience joy, feel happiness, build healthy relationships, achieve success, and have a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Rest is not just a luxury; it's an essential part of maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle. With mounting pressures from various facets of life, from work to family commitments, tapping into different forms of rest everyone needs to reduce anxiety and improve overall well-being. Understanding the True Meaning of Rest Rest goes beyond merely sleeping or taking a break from physical activities. It encompasses nurturing your mind, body, soul, and spirit to rejuvenate and restore your energy levels. Unlike a day at the spa, rest is about creating daily habits that allow you to live less stressed and more fulfilled lives. No one is exempt from needing rest. Rest is an integral part of overall health and wellness. The Seven Types of Rest to Reduce Anxiety Understanding the diverse types of rest helps individuals tailor their self-care practices. There are seven primary types of rest: physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, social, sensory, and creative. Each type addresses unique aspects of your daily life, providing a comprehensive approach to reducing anxiety and promoting peace, longevity, strong relationships, and success in parenting and career. Rest is crucial for mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being. Physical Rest Physical rest is often perceived as sleep, yet it also includes activities that enhance circulation and muscle relaxation, such as posture correction, stretching, or taking leisurely walks. Sleep is a restorative process. However, deep restorative sleep can not be achieved without rest. Everyone needs to adopt a habit of rest to achieve the sleep levels needed to restore cells throughout the body. Mental Rest Meanwhile, mental rest involves quieting a racing mind, which might include taking breaks to let your thoughts settle or practicing mindfulness. Nervous system regulation is also important for mental rest. Moving the brain from a place of fight, flight, freeze, or fawn into a space of being able to access the pre-frontal cortex for better decision making will help you achieve mental rest. It is about quieting the mind, which has control over the brain, to allow the brain to heal and restore and rejuvenate the neural pathways. Spiritual Rest Spiritual rest involves cultivating a sense of belonging and purpose, often through spiritual practices like prayer or meditation. Connection with friends and Bible studies are additional ways you can rest spiritually. Having prayer partners is another way to rest spiritually. Read the Full Show Notes and Access All Links. Sweta shares her personal journey—including her own health crisis from sleep deprivation—and invites listeners to rethink what “healthy” means, to embrace change, and to use small, evidence-based Ayurvedic practices to reconnect with their bodies and minds. Discover the power of mindful rest, redefining traditions, and tapping into your childlike joy—even amid life's challenges. This practical discussion includes how grief shows up in many forms, the importance of customized self-care, and how to prioritize joy and adaptability, especially during stressful seasons. Quotes: “A little bit of stress can motivate us, but when it turns chronic, that's when life feels overwhelming.” “Most people have forgotten how great it feels to feel good—they mistake constant discomfort for normal.” “Redefine what holidays and traditions mean to you; change is the essence of life.” Resources: Visit Sweta Vikram's Website Connect with Sweta Vikram on LinkedIn Watch Sweta Vikram on Youtube
