The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the UniverseJesus was one of the most misunderstood figures in history. From the beginning of his life, through the grace of the virgin birth until His death, many people, including his own followers found it difficult in understanding his mission and purpose. Everyday we choose which king we will serve: the false kings of power, pride, ego, and comfort or Jesus Christ, the King, who reigns from the Cross. We approach the altar of grace wholeheartedly and say. Join us as we tackle the tricky topic of grief and children. A few weeks ago, a reader whose husband had died under tragic circumstances asked for resources on how to navigate grief with her four children. So I invited my pastor Wit (Rick Witmer) on to share from the perspective of a biblical counselor. In this episode, he introduces the idea of “trellissing” grief in a way that helps our kids make sense of it biblically. We also chat about more practical tools (like using the acronym GRIEFS) to guide our interactions with our kids as they are mourning. The biblical principles we discuss in this episode are helpful for any parent navigating grief with their children, but they also apply to numerous other aspects of parenting. So even if you're not dealing with this exact topic, I encourage you to listen in. Guest Info:Rick Witmer: Sylvania Church PastorGo Buy His Book: Walking With God When I'm AfraidDon't Forget to Use the Code: ABBIE25 For 25% Off At Checkout!Sponsor Info:Voetberg Music AcademyVoetberg Music Academy provides online, at home, shareable lessons so that your kids can pursue their musical passions without stress or hassle.Use Code: MISFORMAMA20 For 20% Off Of Each Month That You're Enrolled!Bible References:Matthew 5:171 Corinthians 15:54-55Revelation 211 Thessalonians 4:13Hebrews 6:19Matthew 20:18Hebrews 13:52 Corinthians 2Romans 5:3-51 Peter 1:3-92 Timothy 3:16-172 Corinthians 12:9Psalm 112:6-7Matthew 6:33John 16:33Psalm 34:18Romans 8:28Psalm 56:3Psalm 42:5Psalm 742 Corinthians 11 Corinthians 15:262 Corinthians 4:17Psalm 46:1Romans 15:141 Thessalonians 5:17Galatians 6:2Links:The Gentleness ChallengePenny Reward SystemPaint & ProseM Is for MamaPenny Reward System

These psalms not only reflect his personal journey but also point forward to Christ as the fulfillment of his every prayer and longing. We'll see Jesus foreshadowed as the Righteous Sufferer, the Good Shepherd, and the King of Glory. To deepen our understanding of these well-known scriptures, we'll explore related passages throughout the Bible. In this episode, we explore the dangers of operating with guile. It's important to understand what guile truly is—and to avoid it at all costs. In the Bible, guile refers to deceit, cunning, and dishonesty. It is often contrasted with the virtue of being without guile, which reflects innocence, honesty, and integrity. To be ruthlessly honest with ourselves and others is to live free of guile.Definitions: Guile: insidious cunning in attaining a goal; crafty or artful deception; duplicity. Deceit:  the action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth.Scriptures:Gen. 27, Gen. 25:31-34, Gen. 3:1-3Psalm 24:3-5Prov. 26:24-26I Peter 2:1-3, I Peter 2:21-24John 1:45-49Mark 7:21-23Matt. 15:18Jesus considered that absence of guile to be remarkable, presumably because itis so rare. God literally created our brains to be wired for joy and delight. It's not only in Scripture… we see this is true in brain science, too! Today's behind-the-scenes conversation is practical, fascinating, and truly has the power to change your life. If that sounds like a lofty statement, listen in and don't miss the part about training our new baby neurons to move from the fear center to the JOY center. This part of your brain can be the size of a walnut or grow to be the size of a softball (yes, a softball!)... and who doesn't want a larger amount of joy?!MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:My brand new book – Delighting in Jesus: Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned-Out https://amzn.to/3Zb5HAiPsalm 35:1-3Psalm 43:1Psalm 59:1-3Psalm 74:1Psalm 69: 29-33Psalm 62:5Psalm 63:1Psalm 34:1-5A guided prayer that corresponds with Psalm 34:5, which says: “Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.” https://www.instagram.com/p/DBRRofxxD23/Exodus 33:11Exodus 34:352 Corinthians 3:18Psalm 84:10DelightingInJesus.comPatreon prayer partners: https://www.patreon.com/prayersofrestFREE RESOURCES:✅ JUMPSTART YOUR BIBLE STUDY HABITBible study doesn't have to be complicated or overwhelming. Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary TimeThe movie Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, tells the story of a well respected general in the Roman Army, who sets out to exact vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery. Maximus fights for his freedom and those he has become friends with as fellow Gladiators. The theme of this Sunday's readings are about battle. Our first reading from the book of Daniel mentions a call to “Michael, the great prince, guardian of your people.” St. Michael and the angels go into battle on our behalf to fight for our spiritual freedom as we do not contend primarily with the flesh and blood, but with the principalities and powers of the underworld. May God grant us final perseverance in staying strong in our faith. Scripture Readings for November 17, 2024Daniel 12:1-3Psalm 16:5, 8-11Hebrews 10:11-14, 18Mark 13:24-32

In this episode we talk about how the Bible is a means to the end of knowing Jesus more intimately, and we look at one specific practice we can do to approach the Scriptures this way.NET footnote on Psalm 23:6 and the word "follow" (or "pursue"): "The use of רָדַף (radaf, “pursue, chase”) with טוֹב וָחֶסֶד (tov vakhesed, “goodness and faithfulness”) as subject is ironic. This is the only place in the entire OT where either of these nouns appears as the subject of this verb רָדַף (radaf, “pursue”). This verb is often used to describe the hostile actions of enemies. One might expect the psalmist's enemies (see v. 5) to chase him, but ironically God's “goodness and faithfulness” (which are personified and stand by metonymy for God himself) pursue him instead. The word “pursue” is used outside of its normal context in an ironic manner and creates a unique, but pleasant word picture of God's favor (or a kind God) “chasing down” the one whom he loves."Scriptures referenced:Matthew 15:8John 17:3John 6:63Psalm 127:1Psalm 27:8Matthew 11:28Psalm 138:3Psalm 9:1-2Psalm 8:3-4Psalm 1:2-3Psalm 18:28-29Psalm 51:10Psalm 30:11-12Psalm 13:1-6Psalm 10:1Psalm 27:10Psalm 7:1-2Psalm 46:1-3Psalm 147:10-11Psalm 143:7-12Psalm 63:1-4, 8Psalm 139:1-16Psalm 23**CORRECTIONS/CLARIFICATIONS**I said the guy who disciples me had me write on the front cover, "I read this book to know Jesus more." What's more important: How we view God… or how God views us? A.W. Tozer and C.S. Every Christian must grasp the understanding that they should nourish themselves with the sustenance He provides rather than merely satisfying worldly cravings. Despite the inherent inclination within us towards pursuits that result in death, we are presented with the opportunity to embrace the life-giving bread!04/28/2024 - Sunday NightScriptures Used (In Order of Occurrence):John 62 Kings 4Galatians 5:19-211 Corinthians 6:9-11Matthew 6:9-13Revelation 21:8John 14:2-3Psalm 1:1-3II Peter 1:4Psalm 85:10

I meant to say "temptation to think or feel something" (implying something contrary to the Word of God). Obviously, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with thinking and feeling. God Himself thinks and feels. Rather, the point is what we are thinking about and if our feelings are godly.Support the showIf you feel so led, you can support the podcast by clicking HERE or by clicking the "Support the show" button above.
