If the gospel is truly good news, why does it matter so much what we believe? In this episode, we take a closer look at what the gospel actually is—and what it isn't. Many people assume Christianity is about improving behavior, following religious rules, or proving our loyalty through performance. But the gospel message is not about what we do for God—it's about what Christ has already done for us. We explore the difference between salvation and discipleship, what it means to obey the gospel by faith, and why belief is not the same thing as understanding everything. The Bible is honest about the human condition: none of us is naturally fit for God's family, and none of us can solve the problem of sin on our own. That's why God Himself provided the solution through Jesus. We also address a common question: if salvation is by faith alone, can someone walk away from it? Scripture offers both deep assurance and serious warning—reminding us that while salvation is secure in Christ, faith is more than a one-time decision. It is an ongoing trust and allegiance. The gospel is not advice. It's an announcement. And it changes everything.

Elon Musk Says Stop Saving for Retirement Because of A.I. (Good Advice?)

The Power Of Zero Show

David McKnight dissects Elon Musk's recent claims that, because of AI robotics and automation, the future will have such hyperabundance that ordinary people may no longer need to save for retirement.  In Musk's future, robots are going to do all the work, AI will create prosperity, and society will provide everything you need at a little or no – cost. While David likes Musk's vision for the future, he doesn't agree with him on this one. When examined through the lens of economics, government obligations, and retirement realities, Musk's idea of the future collapses. David identifies five specific reasons why that will happen. The first reason, and perhaps the biggest flaw in Musk's argument, is that AI productivity doesn't automatically translate into personal wealth.  David points out that, during major technological revolutions, productivity increases faster than wages, capital investors capture most of the gains, and wealth becomes more concentrated at the top. In the most optimistic AI scenarios, economists say that it takes decades for productivity gains to spread to the entire population; if they ever do. The second reason why Musk's predictions won't probably come true has to do with the fact that AI won't fix the U.S. national debt or entitlement crisis. The U.S. has $40 trillion in national debt, which is projected to grow $2 trillion per year over the next 10 years (with annual interest payments already over $1 trillion per year). Furthermore, the Social Security Trust Fund is forecasted to run out in 2033, while the Medicare Trust Fund in 2031, and 10,000 baby boomers retire every day. Yet, no rapid explosion of AI innovation will change any of this. The third pet peeve David has with Elon Musk's predictions is that AI has no built-in mechanism for sharing wealth.  "Musk's argument hinges on the idea that AI abundance will automatically be shared, but it won't. Here's how this will likely go down: the profits of AI companies will flow to shareholders, and governments will collect very little from that activity", says David. The fourth reason why David disagrees with Musk's views for the future is that universal basic income is NOT a retirement plan. The final reason why Musk is wrong about the need to save for retirement is that AI increases lifespans which, in turn, increases retirement costs. Any major economist studying debt trajectories seems to agree: tax rates in the future are likely to be much higher than they are today. The current status quo is where the power of your retirement strategy becomes indispensable.  Remember: if tax rates in the future are higher than they are today, then every dollar you withdraw from a taxable 401(k) or IRA is going to be worth a lot less than you ever thought possible. David's solution consists of, over time, repositioning your money into tax-free vehicles – primarily Roth IRAs and Roth 401(k)s.     Mentioned in this episode: David's new book, available now for pre-order: The Secret Order of Millionaires David's national bestselling book: The Guru Gap: How America's Financial Gurus Are Leading You Astray, and How to Get Back on Track Tax-Free Income for Life: A Step-by-Step Plan for a Secure Retirement by David McKnight DavidMcKnight.com DavidMcKnightBooks.com PowerOfZero.com (free video series) @mcknightandco on Twitter  @davidcmcknight on Instagram David McKnight on YouTube Get David's Tax-free Tool Kit at taxfreetoolkit.com

Welcome back to Drummers on Drumming, powered by Big Fat Snare Drum. This episode is a new installment of The Drum Panel, and it's Part One of Two diving into Chick Corea's Cheap But Good Advice For Playing Music in a Group. I'm joined by good friend of mine Rafa Vidal, who also plays with the band Almost Monday, who are currently killing it, and of course Eric Somers-Urrea is back on the panel. We start off reacting to a post from Tommy Igoe about drum education and who should really be setting the agenda in lessons. That opens the door to a bigger conversation about intention, listening, and what it actually means to function inside a band. From there, we break down the first six pieces of Chick's advice and what they look like in real life: Play only what you hear. If you don't hear anything, don't play anything. Don't let your fingers and limbs just wander—place them intentionally. Don't improvise endlessly—play something with intention, develop it or not, but then end off, take a break. Leave space—create space—intentionally create places where you don't play. Make your sound blend. Listen to your sound and adjust it to the rest of the band and the room. We also get into a Rafa's new endeavor called Touch Grooves. Check out more information on that HERE --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today

There's a meme that's been evolving since 2021, and in its current chaotic incarnation, it's become accidentally magical—even if the people using it don't realise it. In this episode, I'm unpacking "do it for the plot" as a practical framework for the year ahead. Not just as permission to take risks, but as a way of activating synchronicity and maintaining agency when things inevitably go sideways on the way to your goals. I'll walk you through how to use this alongside your existing magical toolkit—your amulets, your enchantments, your divination practice—and share the diagnostic story I keep coming back to for checking where I'm actually at versus where I think I am. I'm also introducing a new project I've been wrestling with: hospicing modernity's magic. Because the late twentieth century gave us some genuinely powerful techniques wrapped in a frame that insists magic isn't real. I want to find a way to respectfully retain the useful stuff and jettison the less-than-useful. There's practical advice here for interrogating your intentions for 2026, plus some thoughts on why the slacker-era re-enchantment is officially over and what needs to replace it. Happy new year, kids!

Send us a textWelcome to the Damn Dude Podcast, hosted by California Cal!This is Season 5, Episode 4!We've got a very very very special guest in the house today! In the midst of all the chaos in this country and world, we need a breath of fresh air and some wholesomeness! So we brought on my kiddo, 8 year old Fordie!!Ford has such a kind and pure heart and message, everybody needs to let this one in.While the country either mourned or mocked Charlie Kirk's passing, we were at home having to coordinate to put the dog down, and that was very personal and deep to the family, but especially to Ford. Experiencing death is never fun, but an absolutely essential part of life.I think we all grew as a family and a movement in the sense that we believe its not right to mock the dead or speak negatively on anybody, especially anybody who isn't there to defend themselves. We get into what it's like in the world of an 8 year old growing up in San Diego, California, moving through life the way it is right now. If you are one of those who believe the world is doomed and there's no hope, then you NEED to listen to this one. This is our hope, this is our future, Goodness exists and is actively alive in many of our families and private conversations.Fordie tells us what its like to have to put the family dog down, what 3rd grade life is like, how he thinks humans should be living life, and a very powerful message from his 8 year old self, to his adult self! Daily Devotions from Lutheran Hour Ministries

Luke 14:1, 7-11 - One Sabbath, when He [Jesus] went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching Him carefully. … Now He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him, and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this person,' and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Today on Karl and Crew, we discussed the importance of separating ourselves from bad influences. As followers of Christ, it’s crucial to surround ourselves with a community of fellow Christ-followers, as being surrounded by a worldly community can significantly influence our walk with Christ. We see this affirmed in 1 Kings 12, where we see how a young king, Rehboam, took the advice of bad influencers, and it led to destruction. We then turned to the phone lines to hear stories about good and bad influences from our listeners. Then we had Dr. Geoff and Cyd Holsclaws join us to talk about the intersection of faith, neuroscience, and spiritual formation. The Holsclaws are hosts of the podcast Attaching to God and wrote the book, “Landscapes of the Soul: How the Science and Spirituality of Attachment Can Move You into Confident Faith, Courage, and Connection.” Dr. Geoff has also authored several other books and is a visiting professor of theology at Western Theological Seminary. At the same time, Dr. Cyd is a Spiritual Director and a trauma-informed, Jesus-centered, professional certified coach with the International Coaching Federation. She is also a Certified NLP Master Practitioner and Master Coach. We also had Asheritah Ciuciu join us to talk about being sensitive to the presence of God in our lives and embracing it. Asheritah is a national speaker, bestselling author, and founder of One Thing Alone Ministries, an online ministry that helps overwhelmed women find joy in Jesus. She also has a YouTube Channel where she posts guided prayers, bible tips, and other resourceful videos. She has also authored several books, including “Delighting in Jesus-Rhythms to Restore Joy When You Feel Burdened, Broken, or Burned-Out.” You can hear the highlights of today's program on the Karl and Crew Showcast. Mike Matthews had an incredibly close relationship with his Grandma Eileen. So when one of his co-workers needed some support and a sounding board, he gave them her phone number and said, 'Give my grandma a call. Trust me.' And after this co-worker did call Grandma Eileen - and had a great experience - Mike came to the realization that he needed to share her with the world. That's how - and when - Grandma Stand first started. The concept is simple: A purple stand where a Grandma waits, take a seat, ask the jumping off question and the rest just flows naturally. This is a redefining of the phrase, 'generational wealth,' where both parties who participate in these conversations experience the riches of what each other has to offer. We've been focusing on community and what Mike and Grandma Stand are doing truly nails this. Who knows - maybe you have something you'll want to ask OR maybe you'll be the grandma with all (or some) of the answers. __________________ Steve is busy at work on the third book in his cozy mystery series, THE DOG WALKING DETECTIVES.
