Episode 316 - “Why Advice Rarely Helps (Even When It's Good Advice)”Sometimes people give us genuinely good advice… and we still can't take it. Not because we're stubborn. Not because we don't understand it. But because insight and readiness are not always the same thing. In this episode, Michelle and Scott explore why advice often fails to create real change—even when it's thoughtful, accurate, and well-intentioned. They talk about timing, emotional readiness, nervous system resistance, and the difference between intellectually knowing something and being able to live it. This isn't about rejecting advice. It's about understanding why change is often more emotional than logical—and why people usually move when they're finally ready, not simply when they've been told what to do.Keeping Your Sh*t Together in a Stressed World is a podcast hosted by Michelle Post, MA, LMFT and Scott Grossberg, JD, CLC, CCH, NLP, and is 30 minutes of raw, irreverent, and results-oriented discussion with one purpose in mind . . . to help you cope, thrive, and survive the craziness that's going on in the world. As a reminder, our “Get Your Sh*t Together” Home Retreat can be found here:http://thinkingmagically.com/retreatReplays of prior episodes can be found at:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scott-grossbergYou can also join our Facebook group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/keepingystMichelle Post can be reached at michelle@postinternationalinc.com http://postinternationalinc.com

What if the advice holding you back sounds reasonable because it matches what you already want to believe? In this episode, Kevin and Alan challenge the way most people judge advice, especially when they are still unclear on their goals, values, standards, and current circumstances. Not all advice is useful. Some of it sounds smart, feels validating, and still moves you in the wrong direction. This conversation breaks down how to filter guidance through self-awareness, personal values, decision-making, work ethic, identity, and long-term success. You will hear why context matters, why easy answers can be dangerous, and why the right advice must match the person receiving it, not just the person giving it. If you want better outcomes, stop collecting opinions and start building the discernment to know which ones deserve your attention._______________________Book Alan's Business Breakthrough Session. If the gospel is truly good news, why does it matter so much what we believe? In this episode, we take a closer look at what the gospel actually is—and what it isn't. Many people assume Christianity is about improving behavior, following religious rules, or proving our loyalty through performance. But the gospel message is not about what we do for God—it's about what Christ has already done for us. We explore the difference between salvation and discipleship, what it means to obey the gospel by faith, and why belief is not the same thing as understanding everything. The Bible is honest about the human condition: none of us is naturally fit for God's family, and none of us can solve the problem of sin on our own. That's why God Himself provided the solution through Jesus. We also address a common question: if salvation is by faith alone, can someone walk away from it? Scripture offers both deep assurance and serious warning—reminding us that while salvation is secure in Christ, faith is more than a one-time decision. It is an ongoing trust and allegiance. The gospel is not advice. It's an announcement. And it changes everything.

Elon Musk Says Stop Saving for Retirement Because of A.I. (Good Advice?)

The Power Of Zero Show

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 18, 2026 11:47

David McKnight dissects Elon Musk's recent claims that, because of AI robotics and automation, the future will have such hyperabundance that ordinary people may no longer need to save for retirement.  In Musk's future, robots are going to do all the work, AI will create prosperity, and society will provide everything you need at a little or no – cost. While David likes Musk's vision for the future, he doesn't agree with him on this one. When examined through the lens of economics, government obligations, and retirement realities, Musk's idea of the future collapses. David identifies five specific reasons why that will happen. The first reason, and perhaps the biggest flaw in Musk's argument, is that AI productivity doesn't automatically translate into personal wealth.  David points out that, during major technological revolutions, productivity increases faster than wages, capital investors capture most of the gains, and wealth becomes more concentrated at the top. In the most optimistic AI scenarios, economists say that it takes decades for productivity gains to spread to the entire population; if they ever do. The second reason why Musk's predictions won't probably come true has to do with the fact that AI won't fix the U.S. national debt or entitlement crisis. The U.S. has $40 trillion in national debt, which is projected to grow $2 trillion per year over the next 10 years (with annual interest payments already over $1 trillion per year). Furthermore, the Social Security Trust Fund is forecasted to run out in 2033, while the Medicare Trust Fund in 2031, and 10,000 baby boomers retire every day. Yet, no rapid explosion of AI innovation will change any of this. The third pet peeve David has with Elon Musk's predictions is that AI has no built-in mechanism for sharing wealth.  "Musk's argument hinges on the idea that AI abundance will automatically be shared, but it won't. Here's how this will likely go down: the profits of AI companies will flow to shareholders, and governments will collect very little from that activity", says David. The fourth reason why David disagrees with Musk's views for the future is that universal basic income is NOT a retirement plan. The final reason why Musk is wrong about the need to save for retirement is that AI increases lifespans which, in turn, increases retirement costs. Any major economist studying debt trajectories seems to agree: tax rates in the future are likely to be much higher than they are today. The current status quo is where the power of your retirement strategy becomes indispensable.  Remember: if tax rates in the future are higher than they are today, then every dollar you withdraw from a taxable 401(k) or IRA is going to be worth a lot less than you ever thought possible. David's solution consists of, over time, repositioning your money into tax-free vehicles – primarily Roth IRAs and Roth 401(k)s.     Mentioned in this episode: David's new book, available now for pre-order: The Secret Order of Millionaires David's national bestselling book: The Guru Gap: How America's Financial Gurus Are Leading You Astray, and How to Get Back on Track Tax-Free Income for Life: A Step-by-Step Plan for a Secure Retirement by David McKnight DavidMcKnight.com DavidMcKnightBooks.com PowerOfZero.com (free video series) @mcknightandco on Twitter  @davidcmcknight on Instagram David McKnight on YouTube Get David's Tax-free Tool Kit at taxfreetoolkit.com

Welcome back to Drummers on Drumming, powered by Big Fat Snare Drum. This episode is a new installment of The Drum Panel, and it's Part One of Two diving into Chick Corea's Cheap But Good Advice For Playing Music in a Group. I'm joined by good friend of mine Rafa Vidal, who also plays with the band Almost Monday, who are currently killing it, and of course Eric Somers-Urrea is back on the panel. We start off reacting to a post from Tommy Igoe about drum education and who should really be setting the agenda in lessons. That opens the door to a bigger conversation about intention, listening, and what it actually means to function inside a band. From there, we break down the first six pieces of Chick's advice and what they look like in real life: Play only what you hear. If you don't hear anything, don't play anything. Don't let your fingers and limbs just wander—place them intentionally. Don't improvise endlessly—play something with intention, develop it or not, but then end off, take a break. Leave space—create space—intentionally create places where you don't play. Make your sound blend. Listen to your sound and adjust it to the rest of the band and the room. We also get into a Rafa's new endeavor called Touch Grooves. Check out more information on that HERE --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today

There's a meme that's been evolving since 2021, and in its current chaotic incarnation, it's become accidentally magical—even if the people using it don't realise it. In this episode, I'm unpacking "do it for the plot" as a practical framework for the year ahead. Not just as permission to take risks, but as a way of activating synchronicity and maintaining agency when things inevitably go sideways on the way to your goals. I'll walk you through how to use this alongside your existing magical toolkit—your amulets, your enchantments, your divination practice—and share the diagnostic story I keep coming back to for checking where I'm actually at versus where I think I am. I'm also introducing a new project I've been wrestling with: hospicing modernity's magic. Because the late twentieth century gave us some genuinely powerful techniques wrapped in a frame that insists magic isn't real. I want to find a way to respectfully retain the useful stuff and jettison the less-than-useful. There's practical advice here for interrogating your intentions for 2026, plus some thoughts on why the slacker-era re-enchantment is officially over and what needs to replace it. Happy new year, kids!

This episode on the HOZ Comedy Podcast with Joey, the HOZ Comedy Podcast welcomes Lissette, who quickly proves she's a whole vibe, complete with a mysterious alter ego and a hustle that stretches from community work to flipping houses. The crew dives into the madness of modern dating, unsolicited DMs, and the worst advice ever given, including a DUI story and a tragic CD collection incident. Things get wild as the conversation shifts to self-diagnosis trends, AI replacing doctors, and their favorite medical dramas from Scrubs to Charlie Sheen's meltdown era. They break down cat behavior, personal pet peeves, and the shady world of wellness scams before sharing their own catfishing experiences. From dog breed stereotypes to pet health myths, no topic is safe. The episode heats up with a debate on whether nurses are “still considered professionals,” followed by a candid talk about the possible THC ban and dealing with weed-related anxiety. They wrap up with difficult patient stories, questionable baby names, and shout-outs to the listeners who keep the show rolling. Tap in, laugh out loud, and share the madness.
