"Hey everyone, it's Winston here, and I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for an amazing year. This year has been a journey filled with incredible experiences and the support of some truly wonderful people. I'm especially grateful for my men's group from Buckhead Church. These guys are incredible. They recently went above and beyond by delivering meals to a family member in need for two whole weeks. It's a powerful reminder of the impact of community and the importance of supporting each other. Beyond my church group, I've had the privilege of being part of some amazing organizations this year. The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival and the Atlanta Dramatists have provided incredible opportunities for growth and inspiration. My "Modified by MS" men's group has also been a source of unwavering support and camaraderie. On a personal note, I've been deeply inspired by Tiago Forte's "PARA" method. It's revolutionized how I approach knowledge management and productivity. In the realm of entertainment, "Arcane" captivated me with its stunning visuals and compelling story, while "Dune: Part Two" delivered breathtaking visuals and a powerful exploration of destiny. As we move into the new year, I'm filled with hope and excitement for the future. I'm eager to continue learning, growing, and connecting with all of you. If you're enjoying this podcast, please consider subscribing and sharing it with your friends. Your support means the world to me. Thank you again for an incredible year. Here's to an even brighter future!" https://www.winstonawilson.com https://atlantabtf.org https://atlantadramatisits.org.
What needs to happen to change the current narrative of African Americans in the United States? How can we best celebrate their achievements? In this series on healthcare and social disparities, Dr. Jill Wener, a board-certified Internal Medicine specialist, anti-racism educator, meditation expert, and tapping practitioner, interviews experts and gives her own insights into multiple fields relating to social justice and anti-racism. In this episode, Jill interviews Toni Simmons Henson, executive director of The Southeastern Theatre Conference. They focused on the trauma of and challenges of communicating across lines of difference, the impact of making a political statement just by showing up in a room as oneself, and the importance of self-care for women and mothers who tend to give everything of themselves to their families and can forget to prioritize their own needs. Toni Simmons Henson has over 30 years of expertise in business development, marketing, theatre, and arts administration. She has successfully launched and operated several franchises and businesses throughout her career. One notable venture is Micah 6-8 Media, LLC, responsible for producing the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, ranked top festival to visit in the world and the Black Family Table Talk, a top ranking podcast. She is also a published poet, best-selling author, public speaker, and award-winning entrepreneur. Henson is an alumna of New York University, where she earned an MPA in Nonprofit Management, and Howard University, where she obtained her BBA in Business. How do you celebrate mother's day when your mother has passed? For me, mother's day is hard and has been something I hadn't really celebrated since 1994 when I lost my mother tragically. Some have asked about that, while others have living mother's who aren't...mothers. Every year, I allow myself to go to a "safe" mental place in my emotions. Everyone deal with the "motherless on Mother's Day" thing different. Just go through it! Listen in as I share private thoughts and take questions from the audience. Want the story behind the story?
