"Hey everyone, it's Winston here, and I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for an amazing year. This year has been a journey filled with incredible experiences and the support of some truly wonderful people. I'm especially grateful for my men's group from Buckhead Church. These guys are incredible. They recently went above and beyond by delivering meals to a family member in need for two whole weeks. It's a powerful reminder of the impact of community and the importance of supporting each other. Beyond my church group, I've had the privilege of being part of some amazing organizations this year. The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival and the Atlanta Dramatists have provided incredible opportunities for growth and inspiration. My "Modified by MS" men's group has also been a source of unwavering support and camaraderie. On a personal note, I've been deeply inspired by Tiago Forte's "PARA" method. It's revolutionized how I approach knowledge management and productivity. In the realm of entertainment, "Arcane" captivated me with its stunning visuals and compelling story, while "Dune: Part Two" delivered breathtaking visuals and a powerful exploration of destiny. As we move into the new year, I'm filled with hope and excitement for the future. I'm eager to continue learning, growing, and connecting with all of you. If you're enjoying this podcast, please consider subscribing and sharing it with your friends. Your support means the world to me. Thank you again for an incredible year. Host: Kenny Jahng, Editor-in-Chief of Church Tech Today Guest: Clay Scroggins, Author and Leadership Coach This episode features a compelling conversation between Kenny Jahng and Clay Scroggins, leadership expert, author, and former lead pastor at Buckhead Church under North Point Ministries. They explore the intersection of leadership, technology, and ministry, discussing practical ways pastors can embrace technology, tackle burnout, and leverage AI to enhance their effectiveness. Key Takeaways Modern Challenges in Pastoral Leadership Expanded Role Expectations: Pastors are expected to fulfill roles as theologians, communicators, organizational leaders, cultural commentators, and technology experts. Tech Complexity: The growing reliance on technology adds pressure to pastoral responsibilities. Insights from Pushpay's 2024 Report: 45% of pastors feel unconfident about adopting tech solutions. 55% of churches allocate less than 10% of their budget to tech. Budget constraints and confidence gaps are major barriers to tech adoption. Technology as a Ministry Tool Technology enables churches to extend engagement beyond the Sunday service. Practical Uses: Mobile apps for prayer requests and volunteer scheduling. Bible software like Logos for more efficient sermon preparation. Key Perspective: Technology is a neutral tool—its impact depends on how churches use it. Approaching AI in Ministry Adoption Trends: AI adoption is growing, with 87% of church leaders in favor of its use in ministry. Common Objections: Misconceptions that AI in sermon prep is "cheating." Kenny's Philosophy: AI should be seen as an intern—a tool to save time and enhance focus on pastoral care. Actionable Steps for Pastors Experiment with AI: Use tools like ChatGPT to assist with non-sermon tasks, such as planning difficult conversations or creating group materials. Leverage Congregational Talent: Seek advice from tech-savvy members of your church. Build Influence: Advocate for a tech-forward culture by presenting clear, actionable plans to leadership. Memorable Quotes from Clay "We're not competing against technology; we're using it to raise the sail and catch the wind." "Prepare more efficiently so you can pastor more effectively." "The answers to your problems aren't always in the boardroom; they're out in your congregation." Welcome to episode 197 of the Grow Your Law Firm podcast, hosted by Ken Hardison. In this episode, Ken sits down with Michael Moebes, founding attorney at Moebes Law, to discuss how Michael has mastered referral partnerships. Michael Moebes, Esq. is the eponymous founding attorney at Moebes Law, LLC: a law practice dedicated to representing injured individuals. Specifically, Moebes Law specializes in workers' compensation, veterans disability, and personal injury claims. Has an accident ruined your life? You should probably give Michael Moebes a call. Michael began his professional career as a client representative with IBM before resigning to attend law school at Georgia State University in Atlanta. He spent three years representing employers and insurers at the insurance defense law firm of Drew, Eckl & Farnham in midtown Atlanta before joining the legal team at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for two years. These five years taught him how insurers evaluate injury claims in terms of validity and financial exposure in addition to teaching him about the nuances of practicing injury law throughout the great state of Georgia. In 2009, Michael started Moebes Law, LLC and has passionately represented the injured ever since. In fact, he has recovered millions of dollars and won countless medical procedures in the course of his representation of injured workers and veterans since starting his firm. He is active in the National Organization for Veterans Advocates, the Workers Injury Law and Advocacy Group, and numerous local and national bar organizations. He's a registered neutral by the Georgia Supreme Court as well. Michael has been named a “Rising Star” (before he was over 40) and then a “Super Lawyer” by the Georgia “Super Lawyers” organization multiple times, an honor given to 2.5% of attorneys in their practice field as voted upon by their peers. He has also been named among the “Legal Elite” by GeorgiaTrend magazine. He has lectured at the Georgia Trial Lawyers annual convention, the “Fundamentals of Law Practice” course at Georgia State University College of Law, and the “National Return to Work Week” radio show. In 2013, he was interviewed for the companion guide of “Solo By Choice,” a guide to starting one's own law firm. When not practicing law, Lieutenant Colonel Moebes served as a Medical Service Corps officer with the U.S. Air Force Reserves for 23 years before retiring in 2020. He deployed three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom: twice to Balad Air Base, Iraq and once to Andrews AFB, Maryland. In the course of his decorated military service, he facilitated the aeromedical evacuation of thousands of wounded warriors, and he participated in the Jessica Lynch rescue mission in 2003. He was featured in cover story articles in the Daily Report newspaper after both Iraqi deployments. The three-part “Iraq Diary” article published in October 2003 won national recognition. When not serving his country or his clients, Michael enjoys traveling, writing, and time with his three young children, wife, and dog of questionable lineage. He and his family are active members at Buckhead Church and support several local charities, including Wellspring Living, the Sandy Springs Conservancy, and the Anti-Defamation League; he was selected to the Glass Leadership Institute for the ADL. He serves as Treasurer of the Board for Act 3 Theater in Sandy Springs and Secretary for the Sandy Springs Bar Association. He was chosen for Leadership Sandy Springs in 2013 (becoming an LSS Ambassador in 2014).     What you'll learn about in this episode: Discover Michael's journey to becoming a Lawyer Learn the importance of referral partnerships Tips for building your own referral relationships How Summits and CLE events can help you grow your network What it means to have Reciprocal Referrals The importance of following up after a case settles   Resources:  https://moelaw.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/callcolonelmoe/ https://www.facebook.com/CallColonelMoe/ https://twitter.com/CallColonelMoe https://www.tiktok.com/@callcolonelmoe https://www.instagram.com/callcolonelmoe/   Additional Resources:  https://www.pilmma.org/the-mastermind-effect https://www.pilmma.org/resources https://www.pilmma.org/mastermind

I’m Clay (short for Claytonious).I have the privilege of being the lead pastor of North Point Community Church (NPCC) in Alpharetta, GA, but I didn’t start in that role. Beginning as a facilities intern (a.k.a. Vice-President of Nothing), I worked my way through many organizational levels and learned all too well the challenge of authority deprivation. As the original and largest campus of North Point Ministries, which was ranked by Outreach Magazine in 2014 as the largest church in America, NPCC averages over 12,000 people weekly. Living in the shadow of Andy Stanley, one of the greatest leaders on the planet IMHO, I understand the tension of how to lead when you’re not in charge. But, truth be told, don’t we all?If you’re wondering what I do all day long, you’re not alone. As the campus pastor, I provide visionary and directional leadership for all of the local church staff and congregation in Alpharetta. With slight regret, because of the torturous amount of calculus and physics, I have an industrial engineering degree from Georgia Tech. More applicably, I have a master’s degree and a doctorate with an emphasis in online church from Dallas Theological Seminary. We all probably have different definitions of what high performance means, but we can probably all agree that we want our marriage to perform well. And there are even a few simple tactics than any couple can implement to make their marriage work even better. Meet out Guests For this discussion, we’ve brought in a high performance couple, Kate and Steve Dahlin. The Dahlins are marriage mentors at the Two-To-One marriage ministry through North Point Church in Atlanta. Kate is also a life coach, who writes her own blog called Creating Exceptional. If you read the MarriedPeople blog, you’ll likely read some of Kate and Steve’s posts on marriage. The Dahlins live in Alpharatta, Ga., with their two young children.  A reminder for our listeners - we have a new resource we’ve created called MarriedPeople Membership. It’s an online library for married couples just like you. And it only costs $8/month or $80/year to get access to all of our premium resources in one place. The Interview Tell us a little about yourselves. Steve: Kate and I have been married for 11 years. We met in college on the beach and got married the weekend after graduation. We honeymooned, got married, and got our first jobs all in the same month. God has blessed us with two great kids, ages five and three. Kate: I started in the dancing and arts world late in life. I was with a company in Alabama and went up to New York in the summer with this group who brought in kids to see what your life would look like if you did that. I learned that my heart was in the teaching world. How do you use your marriage to pour into other people? Steve: We both had separate ministries up until we got married. Kate was with women’s groups, teaching, and kids ministry. I have a music background, so mine was in music. We really wanted to do something together. When we started attending Buckhead Church, they made an announcement around the pre-marriage mentoring, and we both felt a prick in our heart. We were so passionate and they had such a need. Kate: At the same time, I was growing my lifestyle coaching business. When we got married, I went from dancing straight into being a mom and was comfortable there. I was playing it safe and felt God nudging me that there was more I needed to be doing. That turned into writing and lifestyle coaching, which dove tailed into the marriage mentoring. Did you guys grow up seeing healthy marriages in the home? Kate: Yes. My parents are married today, love each other to death. They have five kids and were a great role model. I think it was very rare because we both came to the table with that. Steve: My parents have been married for 40 years this year. They both grew up in a religious background, but found Jesus together around the time I was born. We both benefited a lot from the upbringing. It’s very rare nowadays. What did you guys see in their marriages that made them successful? Kate: They learned to grow together as a team. For our grandparents, there was just this level of consistency. They were going to stick it out, it’s what you did. There was no other option. They truly loved doing life together and being a team. Steve: For me, the spiritual foundation is crucial. My parents were not on the same page when they got married, and once the alignment came and they started building that platform on Christ, everything changed. We’ve had some family drama just like every other family, but you can see that spiritual foundation woven through. What have you guys seen in your parents that you wanted to do in your marriage? Kate: They were very open communicators. When I was younger, there was a little fear seeing them fight it out, but we learned how to work it out. Even as kids, they’d tell us they love each other, they just had to work it out. Steve: Respect is what stands out in my mind. The recognition of each party and what they bring to the table. That mutual respect is what I took away. How has your life coaching impacted your marriage? Kate: I was a stay-at-home mom and God laid it on my heart that it was time to do more. I started seeking him on what I’d done in my past that I could leverage for the future. Teaching someone really resonates with me and the business just evolved over time. It started out with fitness and personal training—ballet, health, and exercise. It was easy for me to do that as a side gig. As I started doing that with women, it began encompassing whole health. Once they started getting their fitness and health under control, I you could see that effect all areas of their life. So it grew from there. What’s the difference between an exceptional life and the perfect life? Kate: For us it’s about bucking the status quo. I’m a high achiever, Type A, oldest child. It’s not perfection, it’s about excellence. I had a mentor say, “It’s not about excess, it’s about excellence.” Steve: An exceptional lifestyle is not about performance—it’s about the outcome. When you think about people getting wrapped up in trying to perform, that’s not what this is about. It marriage, life, and career you’re going to have ups and downs and you can’t avoid those. But you can control how you’re going to respond to those. What do you mean by a ‘high-performance marriage’? Kate: The definition for high performance is that you’re producing superior results. It’s not about perfection, but you’re definitely not the norm or average. Steve: In my sales background, they pull the top sales rep up on stage and ask how they’re doing it. For us, that is going to be the outcome of a high performance marriage. People are going to see something in you that’s different. They’re going to want to know what your secret is. What’s the first characteristic of a high-performance marriage? Kate: The first characteristic is dreaming, which is about perspective. We like to take a positive spin on the relationship. No matter where you are, the dreaming aspect gets you out of the daily ground and answer the question, “where are we going?” One of the biggest things for us is an adventure you can go on together. The best advice we would give someone is to go and travel. To get away and pull back from the daily grind. We try to get away every single year. Sometimes it’s just a hotel down the road for one night just to sleep. We encourage couples to start this tradition of getting away every year. Steve: We’ve found when you do this, you can start dreaming about other areas of your life that matter. Your dating life, even your sex life. It’s a great opportunity to connect as a couple. What happens to you as parents when you spend time just as a couple? Kate: You’re recharged and you can dream. When you’re in the daily grind of work and schedules and school, and it can just get busy. When you get away and pull back, you can have rest and the opportunity to think bigger. Steve: I’m always drawn to the movers and shakers in life. A lot of them have to get up early to make space and function. You look at Jesus—how many times did he retreat and pull away so he could come back recharged? From a marriage perspective, if you’re not doing that you’re going to burn out. Do you have a system for dreaming together, or does it happen organically? Steve: For us, vacation is vacation. We make sure we’re going away just us. We’ve done a couple trips with other people or visiting aunts and uncles. But making sure it’s just the two of us is important. Even the kids are starting to understand that. There have been times there was a book or podcast we wanted to pull in and talk about. But most of the time it’s amazing what comes out in that dead time. I’m in sales, so I could talk forever. For some people it may be harder to start. We’ve tried to do some things around creating conversation and it’s amazing what happens. Kate: The things to consider are: date, place, position, goal. What’s a date you’ve never done before? Where’s a place you want to go? Position has to do with your sex life. For goal: pick something really big you want to accomplish as a team. The second characteristic is dating. How often do you go on dates? Kate: We do date night every single week. Twice a month we actually go out. We get a babysitter; it’s in our budget. The other dates are home dates. We’ll feed the kids chicken nuggets, we’ll cook, play games. Making it a priority helps make it happen. When you call it ‘date night,’ you treat it differently. We treat it like a business meeting—we minimize distractions. We try not to talk about the kids or vent about the week. And we silence our cell phones. Steve: Early on, I confused hanging out all the time with dating. Then, a mentor asked how much I spent every month on car payments. Without missing a beat, he then asked how much I was spending dating my life. It’s not about the dollar amount. My focus on dating completely changed. Kate: If you don’t have the finances for a babysitter, you can swap time with another couple with kids. Just make it a habit. Don’t allow the busyness to squeeze this out. The third characteristic is growing. How do you grow together? Steve: I love the verse in Ecclesiastes that says two is better than one. This talks about the couple, but also the network you begin to build around you as you grow as a couple. You’ve got to find people in your phase of life who can walk beside you. The next step is to find a couple a few steps around you who have already walked that road. For us, it’s creating that environment with peers and people ahead of you. Next, it’s looking to the next generation. You grow a lot as a couple when you start pulling up the next generation. Having that network around you is so crucial to growth. Your one simple thing this week Pick one of the three characteristics of a high-performance marriage and work on it together. Dream: Write down one goal that you want to accomplish in your marriage during the next 10 years. Grow: Pray together so you can grow deeper as a couple. Date: Do something you’ve never done before on a date night. Show Closing Thanks for joining us for the Married People Podcast. Well, I too get confronted with questions about my faith.  Listen in as I attempt to explain what may be at the root of the never-ending search for answers. This episode was inspired by a message presented by Andy Stanley of Buckhead Church in Atlanta GA. He started a series titled "Bystander". After attending the service and listening to his God inspired message, I received confirmation concerning a recent discussion I had with someone as well as an old conversation with a person who identified himself as an atheist. I am now convinced that I will run into these type of conversations more often then not. However, now I have a better understanding of how to respond.  I share this information with you in hopes that you will understand why you believe what you believe and decide for yourself what is true. I also want to invite you to read the book of John in the New Testament Bible.  For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son. That whosoever believe on Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. A new author wants your worship life to be the opposite of boring.John Hambrick is part of the leadership team at Buckhead Church, part of North Point Ministries in the Atlanta area. He’s also the author of the powerful new book “Move Toward the Mess: The Ultimate Fix for a Boring Christian Life” by David Cook publisher. The foreword is by Andy Stanley.Hambrick is speaking out against Christians getting stuck in a rut. It doesn’t matter if your pastor gives boring sermons. It doesn’t matter if the music is dull. Jesus was always in motion. Hambrick writes that if Jesus were boring, the Pharisees would not have killed Him.Hambrick said, in an interview, he coined the phrase “Move Toward the Mess” at his church. Most of the ministries there were already moving toward the mess. He decided he needed to write about the concept. Most Christians would rather stay in their comfort zone, he said. “We started to realize if you want to follow Jesus out into the world … that’s what you’ve got to do. There first mess that God starts to move toward is mine. I struggle with things. fMy life is sometimes messy, relationally and spiritually. I think there’s a side to all of us that would prefer to stay in our comfort places.”One of his favorite stories in the book follows the life of a couple named Leroy and Janelle, who are famous in Atlanta for “Hot Dogs and Prayer.”In December 2005 they moved to the Capitol View area of Atlanta. They hoped to flip a house. Then the economy tanked. The neighborhood got worse. The couple decided to do something for God’s Kingdom. They picked the worst area in the neighborhood — a corner with a brothel, crack house and halfway house — and set up a weekly ministry called “Hot Dogs and Prayer.” The couple offered to pray for people who accepted free hot dogs. The drug dealers, prostitutes and other locals laughed at them while accepting hot dogs. Then, slowly, some began to ask for a prayer. The stories that really broke the couple’s hearts, Hambrick said, were from the sex workers, who “without exception were mostly girls who had been molested” at age 6 or earlier.Today, Leroy and Janelle have a ministry called Serenity Steps for those sex workers.“They’re having a significant impact,” Hambrick said. You don’t have to move to the inner-city to make a difference. So Hambrick asks people, “What would it look like to move toward the mess in your context?“Move Toward the Mess” has discussion questions that would make it great for small groups or individual study. The book is available from major booksellers.
