Understanding Authentic Branding with Julie Nemitz   Episode #155   Welcome back to The Creative Soulpreneur. In today's episode, we reconnect with an extraordinary guest, Julie Nimitz. Julie's journey from a theater kid in Michigan, mentored by influential figures and inspired by a vibrant local theater scene, has taken her through a compelling career in corporate marketing. She merged her love for theater and her expertise in marketing to help small theaters amplify their stories in innovative ways. Now, Julie's entrepreneurial spirit and fearless nature have led her to work with individual artists, guiding them to authentically market themselves and their creative endeavors. Join us as we explore Julie's inspiring path, her transformational pivot from corporate to self-driven success, and her passion for making a meaningful impact in the arts community. This episode is packed with insights on blending creativity with strategy to leave a lasting legacy in the world of arts and theater.   Takeaways: Embrace the Pivot: Julie transitioned from a career in theater to corporate marketing, eventually founding the Theater Marketing Lab and Broad Impact Network. Her journey emphasizes the importance of fearlessly trying new things and pivoting when necessary. Personal Branding Matters: Both Julie and Nick highlight the importance of personal branding for artists and entrepreneurs. Knowing and authentically presenting who you are can open doors and create meaningful connections. Building Community for Impact: Julie's vision for the Broad Impact Network focuses on empowering female artists and advocates to create together and drive social change. This initiative underscores the power of community in making a difference.   Julie Website For Women in the Arts: Broad Impact Network   Julie Nemitz is a marketing mastermind who's shaking things up in the world of the performing arts. She is the founder of Theatre Marketing Lab, a consultancy dedicated to helping thousands of theatre artists and organizations grow audiences and amplify their work in the digital space –with a big dose of content marketing magic and a whole lot ofinnovative brand strategy. Julie is passionate about working with theatremakers, coaching them to harness the power of the internet to build brands. Since 2019, over 2,800 theaters have benefitted from training with the Theatre Marketing Lab where theatermakers can take self-guided training, group coaching sessions or collaborate one-on-one with Julie. Her signature programs Sell The Show! and Merrily We Roll Out: The Season Reveal Launch Plan have impacted local theatre marketing strategies from Glasgow to Melbourne and everywhere in between. Julie's newest project, Broad Impact Network, will launch in 2025. The program is a membership-based platform and community for women passionate about entertainment and the creative arts. Whether they are active contributors to the industry or avid supporters, Broad Impact Network empowers its members to celebrate, support, and shape the future of the arts. Our mission is to build a robust and engaged community of women who actively support female-identifying artists, advocate for freedom of artistic expression, and provide funding for women-led film, television, music, and theatre projects. Through community-driven initiatives—such as the Broad Impact Grant Program, in-person events Broads Night Out and Broads Night In, and a gamified engagement system—members wield their collective influence to amplify and celebrate women in the arts. Prior to the launch of Theatre Marketing Lab in 2019, Julie had a nearly fifteen-year career in sales and marketing with some of the top publishers and media companies, including Playbill, People Magazine, Meredith Dash Dot/Parents.com, and ScholasticPublishers. As a Vice President of Partnership Marketing at Triad Retail Media, she led her team to develop award-winning e-commerce content for Walmart.com. Julie travels the country (and the internet) speaking about marketing and the theatre industry for organizations such as the American Association of Community Theatre and The National Presenters Association and on numerous podcasts. She is also adjunct faculty at Western Michigan University, teaching Theatre Arts Marketing to the next generation of artists. In her spare time, Julie produces theatrical productions centered on the female experience including co-creating the original theatrical work “Does Anybody Have A Map? Motherhood In Stories and Song” which premiered in 2020 and moved into a social media content success story during the pandemic.   Nick Demos is a Tony and Olivier Award winning Broadway producer, documentary filmmaker, conscious business coach and manifestation expert. We would jazz walk a mile or so to see this show. By Anna Ouyang Moench Directed by Les Waters Christmas, but not as you know it. Leave the little ones at home and gather ‘round for a very Playhouse take on Christmas. Your Local Theater Presents: A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, Again is a laugh-out-loud funny and heartfelt story for theatre lovers and holiday enthusiasts alike. Eddie is a young actor, fresh out of Juilliard and ready to make his mark on the American Theatre. His dreams are within reach… sort of. First he's just going to do this regional production of A Christmas Carol. As the years pass, Eddie finds himself back at the same local theatre, over and over and over again. Much remains the same: the play, the stage manager, the green room — though Eddie finds himself in different costumes as he ages through the male roles over the course of his career. Anna Ouyang Moench is not just an award-winning playwright. Her work as a screenwriter includes Apple TV+'s Severance and the second season of the multi-award-winning Netflix show, Beef. Her comedic and incisive style is on display in this moving new play; a love letter to actors, artists and dreamers of all professions who make sacrifices large and small in service of their work… and ultimately wonder whether it was worth it.

Danny emphasises self-awareness in acting and shares insights into the life of a community-focused actor. The conversation wraps up with Danny offering advice for others looking to start similar initiatives and his future plans for Reload Theatre.   In Danny's own words, “It's a really good challenge for actors specifically to learn a script so quick and get up on stage and do it. Some never want to do it again, but they're always happy they did it. They always say it was a good experience and they're happy they did it. Today's guests are Andrea de la Cruz and Nathaniel Williams, leaders in the area of educational courses and the youth movement at the Goetheanum, located in Dornach, Switzerland. The Goetheanum is a remarkable building, a masterpiece of modern architecture nestled in the green foothills near Basel. It is also an organization that lies at the heart of anthroposophy, the spiritual and cultural movement flowing from the life and work of Rudolf Steiner, founder of the Waldorf schools. As such, the Goetheanum is home to a variety of artistic, scholarly, and social activities, as well as educational programs for youth and adults of all ages. In this episode, Andrea and Nathaniel share their own stories and describe the remarkable international community that gathers in Dornach for these programs, as well as how the anthroposophical youth movement manifests elsewhere in Europe and around the world.Andrea de la Cruz -Born in 1989 in Madrid, Spain, Andrea has been working with young people and in adult education in international settings since 2011. She coordinates the Studies & Further Education Department of the General Anthroposophical Section at the Goetheanum, Switzerland, where she develops educational activities on basic Anthroposophy together with the faculty team. One Singular Sensation: "A Chorus Line" at Chanticleer Community Theatre at PACE!

We sat down with Director Todd Brooks,  Stage Manager Krista Freimuth, and Actor Adam Fulbright to talk about Chanticleer's upcoming production "A Chorus Line."  This is a cohesive cast who are working hard but having the time of their lives, which of course, is everything community theatre should be.  This is going to be a fun production, with a live orchestra, much dancing and singing with all the classic "A Chorus Line" tunes and dance moves! Though "A Chorus LIne" was also adapted into a popular movie in 1985, for most people the story is best told on stage. The original musical was written in 1975 by Marvin Hamlisch, with lyrics by Edward Kleban, and directed by Michael Bennett.  It won many Tony Awards, a Drama Desk Award, a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and in 1984 won a Tony for longest running musical on Broadway.  (It is currently the 7th longest running musical to date).  The "Book" (librettists of the spoken, non-sung dialogue, and storyline of a musical play) was written by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante. The story is based on true stories and is set on the stage of a Broadway theater, and centered on seventeen Broadway dancers auditioning for roles on a chorus line. "A Chorus Line" runs May 9-12th and 16-19th at Chanticleer Community Theatre at PACE.  This is a great opportunity to see this prize winning musical!  CHANTICLEER at PACE / CONTACT INFO:  Website:  https://www.paceartsiowa.org/theater/chanticleer-community-theater Ticket Link: https://www.showpass.com/a-chorus-line-4/ Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/chanticleertheater  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/paceartsia/?hl=en  Twitter: https://twitter.com/PACEartsiowa  Chanticleer Community Theatre / Pace Arts Iowa 1001 S 6th Street, Council Bluffs, IA HOW TO LISTEN TO THE PLATTE RIVER BARD PODCAST: Listen at https://platteriverbard.podbean.com or anywhere you get your podcasts. In this one, Cody talks to Matt Fernandez of Anchorage Community Theatre. Matt's association with ACT goes back to before he was even born. His mom was involved in ACT and was the Assistant Director of the play Bus Stop in 1968. He actually still has the playbill for that show. Fast-forward to 1989 and he's watching his first show. It's Oliver Twist, it's an ACT production and his brother is in it. Three years later, in 1992, Matt personally got involved with ACT. He's 12 and the Alaska theatre legend Bob Pond gives him a non-speaking role in A Christmas Carol. He got the non-speaking role because he stuttered throughout the entire audition, but Bob casted him anyway — Bob had a tendency to recognize when someone needed a role, either to be part of the theatre community or to boost their self-esteem. The next role Bob gave Matt was in Inherit the Wind. It was a speaking role and he had the opening monologue. To this day, Matt says it was the best speech therapy he's ever had.   The history of Anchorage Community Theatre is important to Matt, mostly because there's a lot there. It's been around since the 1950s, before Alaska was even a state. That's 70 years of local theatre and community. The longstanding tradition of military personnel involvement is a big part of its history. It goes back to 1953, during the Korean War, when ACT's founder Frank Brink was stationed in Kodiak. He was a naval officer and he was also running Anchorage Little Theatre, so he decided to see if the theater-writing team Rodgers and Hammerstein would allow him to do South Pacific, a musical about World War II. They did, and thus began a heritage of military involvement in ACT that continues to this day. To solidify his point about history, Matt talks about a photo taken after the 1964 Good Friday earthquake. In it, the streets of 4th Avenue are split and collapsed, shops are destroyed, and above it all is a banner advertising “Our Town,” an ACT play.
