Kareem Daniel Ryce is on the mic! Thanks to Miss Liz and her introduction, I lined up a call with Kareem, who's down in Trinidad and Tobago. With a simple question behind the podcast, isn't it great that I can cross paths with people like Kareem? Arguably living in different worlds, we met and he shared his experience coping with schizophrenia. Although thousands of kilometres and oceans apart, we could still meet halfway to discuss mental health and the stigma people face around these mental hardships. Oh. We also talked shop around rhymes, art, and moving the needle by verse and sharp lyrics. Thanks, Kareem. You're quite the inspiration. *For the full YouTube episode, click here: https://youtu.be/_8Xo1KsB0NI **** Learn more about Kareem Rice's work here: - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DanielRyceMusic - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kareem.ryce/ - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kareemdanielryce01/ **** More from Shooting it RAW: * Websites: Site: https://www.shooting-it-raw.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/shootingitraw Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/shootingitraw/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ran-elfassy/ - Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.ca/podcasts/a92caaa1-6f09-473f-bd00-9f2e9000b3fa/SHOOTING-IT-RAW-WITH-RAN-ELFASSY - Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/shooting-it-raw/id1495187250?ign-mpt=uo%3D4 - Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6p3NoR69bLG4lZ52FKE2dR - Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/RanElfassy - YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6sqti7YyKrSNUdgw3ONSFg/videos

This is what happens when you get three Lyrical dope mc's on a podcast . You get the amazing content that are about to experience. I have been following my cousins Dontel's career for quite some time and I knew it was only a matter of time that eventually we would have this sit down. This would not be a Wyldamerica interview if I didn't throw out a WYLDCARD and for this episode I found a hip hop artist on Instagram who's audio clips have been using in my videos so I reached out to him and believe or not he came on the podcast and just when you thought it was a Party DJ Que Eleven jumped on Fresh after receiving his plaque for getting over 23 millions streams for the song he did with Roddy Rich featuring LIL Durk (TWIN) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/imhere2argue/message
In this week's episode I get to finally speak with Anthony Torres AKA Lyrican. I've known of Anthony for a good part of 15 years from us involved in similar circles but we never formally met until now. Anthony is heavily influenced by music and the comic book culture. He shares his experience being Puerto-Rican but unable to speak the language and how that played out in an unforgiving environment. Being a Hip-Hop/Comic book head didn't come easy either and Lyrican details how he navigated his life to find his peace as a man, father and husband. Follow https://jmcpod.com/ for more. Shahid Mohammed, cut it with precision: this week Pop Screen is going back to the Daisy Age of hip-hop with Michael Rapaport's documentary Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest. Somewhat incredibly the first ever documentary about a hip-hop band, this warts-and-all look at Tribe's history annoyed Q-Tip by focusing on the tensions between him and the late Phife Dawg. But the film as a whole is fonder and more sensitive than Rapaport's career as a social media nuisance would have you believe. This week, My Favourite Film's Gav Smith joins us for the first time to discuss Tribe's vast musical legacy, as well as the golden age of semi-legal sampling, the film's evocative portrait of East Coast hip-hop back when it was an underground scene, and Graham's slightly delusional belief that The Love Movement isn't that bad. There's also room for digressions on The Source magazine's fall from grace, Manic Street Preachers song titles and Spike Jonze's Beastie Boys documentary. Podcasts to go: if you want more Pop Screen, our Patreon backers get a bonus episode every month. This month's launches tomorrow, and it's about Tom Hooper's Cats, so, y'know. You also get our other movie podcast Director's Lottery and Graham's twice-weekly classic Doctor Who reviews. Sends, suffers and sounds? In this episode we're embracing nostalgia with guest Devin Dabney. A climber, musician and all-around crusher, Dabney is also a self-described ‘setter, rapper, jedi knight, artist, storyteller', and new member of the Scarpa Athlete Mentorship program. Kris Hampton, aka the Dr. Dre of climbing, re-joins us. We're kicking it back all the way to our high-school days, reminiscing about the soundtracks that influenced how we grew up, where we came from and who we are now. As we trip through our favorite jams, we also raise some serious questions about art and critical consumption. Listen-in as we discuss how the music we listen to tracks with our changing conceptions of race, gender and identity, as well as what it reveals about the communities we inhabit. If you need music recommendations for your next convoy to the crag, and you want to check out some of the artists and songs we mentioned today, find them in the links below. In this episode, we're excited to have poet laureate Ryan T. Parker come on the show to talk about his personal journey in education, the "Happyvism" Project, the evolution of hip-hop culture in public education, and so much more! To learn more about Ryan's work, you can visit his website at ryanparkerthepoet.com or follow him on Instagram (@peaceloveparker). BIO: Ryan T. Parker is a Manchester, CT based poet, teacher of the year recipient & artivist. Raised by a strong, single mother in Norwich, Connecticut, he has been penning poems and preaching peace since the age of ten. After graduating from Norwich Free Academy, he went on to receive a degree in English at Eastern Connecticut State University and a Master's degree in teaching at Sacred Heart University. Influenced by the strength, wisdom and humor of his mom, love for hip hop and people, his practices with tutoring at ECSU, and his personal frustrations with his own educational experiences and education system as a whole (his 10th grade English teacher had a sign in her classroom which read, “Silence is Golden” –Ahhh! Freaky stuff!), Ryan developed a passion for teaching and promised himself he would break that golden silence and bring golden noise into education! For the last fourteen years, he has kept his promise teaching English in Manchester, CT public schools, coaching youth poets, and performing and presenting on hip hop poetics and the significance of empowering youth. In addition to teaching middle school students, Ryan also consults with educators running workshops and professional developments centered on The Open Mic Movement in Education and teaching educators strategies for establishing and maintaining effective classroom environments. Ryan has also presented at numerous educational conferences including LID, CONFRATUTE, NYCORE and COESBOC, NEAG, delivered a TEDx Talk titled 'Transforming Struggle into Strength', featured as a guest poet performer along with Pam Nomura in Hartford Connecticut's Riverwood Poetry Series, starred as the feature poet at Hartford's RealArtWay's' Inescapable Rhythms Poetry Series and is currently writing a Memoir and a guide to The Open Mic Movement in Education. Ryan also devotes time towards traveling to various school communities performing poems, giving motivational talks and training staff and students in igniting open mic movements. When he's not teaching or presenting, Ryan loves rapping, laughing, poeming, coaching youth poets, running, snowboarding, kayaking, hiking with his bloodhound, Otter, and eating chocolate chip cookies (preferably organic).
