Pro wrestling stables come in all shapes and sizes, but many of the most memorable groups are the ones with lots of people in them: nWo, Bullet Club, Planet Jarrett, Mad Blankey, The Alliance, etc. Similarly, there are plenty of bands that boast a large roster of people. On this episode, Andrew and returning guest Brady Trappett (Voices of Wrestling) play bands with at least five members in them at one time. Some of the picks have only five, but many others go well beyond that into double digits. Artists include Jurassic 5, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Earth, Wind & Fire, BROCKHAMPTON, INXS, Slipknot, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, and many more. There are so many people on this episode, it's a miracle they were all able to fit!Theme song: "Hemispheres" by Silent PartnerBluesky: @MusicoftheMat / @justandrew / @ydarbAll VOW podcasts, articles, previews, and reviews: VoicesofWrestling.comJoin the VOW Discord to discuss Music of the Mat and other shows/topics: VoicesofWrestling.com/DiscordDonate to Music of the Mat and other VOW podcasts: VoicesofWrestling.com/DonateAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

On Episode 108 of the Guest Speaker Series, we welcome an artist we've been a fan of since before the inception of the podcast: Burlington, Vermont's very own maari of 99 Neighbors! maari, formerly known as Sam Paulino, is one of the founders of the viral sensation that was 99 Neighbors, a collective of 10 creatives all from the Burlington area who became household names after their breakout album ‘Television' in 2019. maari talks in detail how ‘Television' changed the band's lives, including the song “Champion” being featured on ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians', to then moving to Chicago and being signed to Warner Records and Chance the Rapper's management team. They were drawing numerous comparisons to other hip-hop collectives of the era, such as Odd Future and BROCKHAMPTON. Alas, all good things must come to an end, as maari details the group's recent decision to not release music together anymore at the conclusion of their 2021 album ‘Wherever You're Going I Hope It's Great'. He explains the desire for all of 99's members to branch out and release solo music, which ultimately led to maari teaming up with fellow Vermont-based producer Es-K for his debut solo album ‘All Is Fair In Love & War', a 10 track masterpiece which also features frequent Drake collaborator, Quentin Miller. Mike and maari also discuss a variety of other topics, including the cultural importance of SoundCloud, their mutual admiration for Brockton, MA's Van Buren Records, which artists he thinks are blending genres in the most creative ways, the state of Vermont's music scene, the hilarious name of his first ever hip-hop group as a kid, the amazing moment he got to meet Tyler, the Creator, and so much more. As broadcast October 23, 2023 with a boatload of shiny new goods and cellophane scents. Tonight, as we are wont to do, it's time to unwrap what's been dropped from the audio multiverse and see what we liked, starting with our dear friend out of San Diego Scoobert Doobert, whose new album MOB just dropped on Friday. We also had new jawnies from Haley Johnsen, Kurt Vile, and BADBADNOTGOOD to take us through hour one in style. Part 3 the big new tunes out this week had some decent selections, with Sampha's new album Lahai being a notable new record (and the artist's first in years), just out days ago. For the final stanza we had more from the local Korean realms to finish things off with heart signs, big highlights being Say Sue Me's latest single (what a banner year they've had), along with Balming Tiger's new record that slapped down to earth on Friday. #feelthegravityNew Muses Monday10/23/2023Tracklist (st:rt)New Faves - Part 1 & 2Part 1 (00:00)Scoobert Doobert – Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)Pelicat – Still AroundQ – HelloKevin Abstract – What Should I Do?BADBADNOTGOOD feat Charlotte Day Wilson – SleeperBombay Bicycle Club feat Damon Albarn – Heaven Part 2 (31:30)Haley Johnsen – That Ain't LoveDallas Tamaira – LevelsJapan, Man – Why Do People ChangeBeabadoobee feat Laufey – A Night to RememberKurt Vile – Another good year for the rosesLEENALCHI – Ultimate Prescription Part 3 – Poppin' Off! As broadcast October 10, 2023 with plenty of friends in tow. Tonight we open with David Skimming, the mastermind behind the Lunar Isles project, which has made some of the best guitar-centric surf dreams in indie anywhere over the past few years, not just in Korea. His latest is a lovely upbeat affair that is the perfect way to get back into the mode after the Busking World Cup and a bevvy of holidays here in Korea. After that, we had plenty of friends to ride with tonight, as Broken Baby, Scoobert Doobert, and Otis Kane all had fresh cuts to feature in part one, and there was plenty more in store after that with notable joints just out from Masego, Meernaa, veronicavon, Kevin Abstract, and a slew of other worthies, including a great new album from Norwegian cinematic instrumental outfit Orion's Belte called Women, which is absolutely superb and full of surprises.#feelthegravityUTR 10/10/2023Under The RadarTracklist (st:rt)Part 1 (00:00)Lunar Isles – ArrivalScoobert Doobert – All I NeedWild Nothing – Dial ToneBroken Baby – Ugly Polo & Pan – ChamallowKraak & Smaak feat Otis Kane – Ready for YaIzyBeats w/ Masego & Toian – Tipsy Part 2 (33:04)Meernaa – Love Is GoodRobohands – DrivenHoly Hive & The Shacks – Middle of the NightMndsgn – MakeUsuper natural lime – The Boat Pelicat – Safe & Soundveronicavon - Dreamgirl Part 3 (61:13)Katie Ferrara – Loud and ProudHoneywhip – PolaroidKevin Abstract – Blanket bed bug guru – Tightrope Born Days – DreamsA Beacon School – Mantra Part 4 (91:16)Busty & The Bass feat Son Little – Give Me A SmileHala – Run to YouPrateek Kuhad – MulaqatLake Street Dive feat Madison Cunningham – Neighbor SongGeorgia Gets By – Fish Bird Baby BoyOrions Belte feat Oyvind Torvund – I Will Always Miss YouOrions Belte feat Louien – When You're Gone I'll Be Gone

Arlo Parks is one of the most compelling voices of her generation. Born in London, the 22-year-old snagged the Best New Artist trophy at the Brit Awards in 2021 in part because of her breakout single “Eugene,” about an unrequited crush. Arlo's songwriting is a vivid exploration of the euphoria and heartbreak that comes with being young and in love. This month, Arlo Parks will release her sophomore record, called “My Soft Machine.” She collaborated with producers who worked with Brockhampton, SZA and Frank Ocean. The album unpacks the anxiety of feeling lost in your 20s, and navigating the uncertainty of life with grace. On this week's episode, Justin Richmond talks with Arlo about how seeing Black creators pushing the boundaries of popular music inspires her. She also explains how taking long drives around LA shaped the sound of her new album, and how she first started writing songs at just seven years old. Plus, we'll hear Arlo play three of her singles live from the Village Studios in Los Angeles. You can hear a playlist of some of our favorite Arlo Parks songs HERE. We had the pleasure of interviewing Faith Marie Zoom video!Singer-Songwriter Faith Marie, has released her single “Alleyways,” today. Released in collaboration with the label UUin, “Alleyways” is the second single off her upcoming 3 song debut EP, More than I am. Written by Faith, “Alleyways” is about a pivotal point in one's transition into adulthood. She elaborates “I realized in order to grow, I had to let go of other people's ideas of me and explore the parts of myself I was afraid to address and take responsibility for my trauma and healing.” The moody, yet ethereal track serves as the perfect introduction to her attentive songwriting and delicate vocals. The synth and guitar heavy sounds, paired with ominous echoes of different musical elements and vocals, is meant to represent the drive needed to walk into the unknown while still facing the unease of what you'll find in the process.Hailing from Provo, Utah, Faith's foray into songwriting began at the age of 13, launching a successful YouTube channel that attracted over 121,000 subscribers over the next five years, in addition to over 80 million Spotify and Youtube streams combined. Inspired by the likes of My Chemical Romance, Paramore, and Brockhampton, Faith pushes herself creatively when it comes to genre-bending. In 2015, her love for artists that seamlessly cross genres led her to posting a cover of Bring Me The Horizon's “Drown,” which immediately went viral and is currently sitting at 5M views. “Bring Me The Horizon has always been the most inspiring to me because they don't care about upholding a genre or appeasing specific types of fans that listen to them, they do what inspires them” Faith states. The virality of this cover catapulted her into the release of her debut single “Antidote,” which Faith wrote and self-produced. Now, 7 years later, Faith has released multiple singles ranging from the orchestrally adorned “Little Girl” and the electronic-laced “Devil on My Shoulder,” each dealing with themes of struggle, anxiety and hope. Faith is constantly working to perfect her craft of songwriting with each release, and is also currently pursuing a bachelors in audio engineering. She elaborates “I'm on a lifelong mission to master as much of the music creation process as possible.”We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing DWLLRS over Zoom video! The indie-pop California-duo DWLLRS put out an emotional, beautifully written stripped-down new track called “End Of It All.On the track, the duo share: “'End Of It All'” is us not wanting to have any fundamental regrets when everything is said and done. We know what kind of life we want to experience, and this song is us aching to fulfill the hope we have for a life well lived. Things will always get in the way — but those things play into the duality of love, life, and purpose. This song is a step into our future — and a confident nod to life's impermanence.”If you're unfamiliar with DWLLRS, you may know their single “Blue Spirits” - it is currently trending Top 10 on TikTok's US Top Songs chart, with over 100K creates in less than a month. The sound is consistently producing around 10K creates weekly. About DWLLRS:Under the influence of Frank Ocean, Tame Impala, BROCKHAMPTON, and more, DWLLRS have carefully honed a signature sound reliant on their respective identities in 2021. Get ready for a heavy dose of fanboyism, because we're talking about Austin's favorite musical group today (Alex thinks they're pretty neat too) - we're ranking every album in Brockhamptom's discography from worst to best. This hip-hop collective/boyband features the artistic contributions from Kevin Abstract, Dom McLennon, Ameer Vaan, Merlyn Wood, Matt Champion, Bearface and Joba. This is a bonus episode, so as usual we're a little more liquored up than usual. We hope ya'll enjoy and enjoy the holidays!
