Kenny Wayne Shepherd has a lot going on. between concerts, family, and getting high-powered muscle cars delivered to his house, his plate is full! I ran into Kenny a few weeks back in Nashville. I posted about that trip and a little about running into Kenny, here. Onto what Kenny has going on. He'll be playing at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit on May 17th. For tickets, click here. Kenny doesn't always hang out in Nashville, his home, but he did a few weeks back. I ran into him two nights in a row, at two comedy shows, so we talked about going to those shows. As far as his shows go, he's always playing somewhere. I asked him the longest he'd gone without playing, and the answer was pretty easy, during the pandemic. Kenny Wayne Shepherd Has Lots Of Music In The Can He told me he already has four albums in the can! He says he's ready for the record label to ask him for new music. "Thankfully because I have all this material kind of stocked up, I haven't been under the gun to write lately, and that's kind of the point." He went on to say that he felt like he was constantly under pressure to write, and now he's relieved of that with these albums ready to go. We talked about his monster hit "Blue On Black" and the latest cover of it from Five Finger Death Punch, Brian May, and Brantley Gilbert. He says he thinks a country artist could make a hit out of that song as well. Kenny Wayne On Jimi Hendrix He'll be heading out on the Hendrix Experience this fall with some great guitarists. He said the family of Jimi loves it. He's been a part of this since it became a thing in Seattle. "I've done a lot of Hendrix songs over the years and I feel that I do them justice." Now, onto cars. He's a huge car guy, as am I. When I saw him a few weeks back, he was waiting for the arrival of his latest muscle car. Well, it came, and it sounds insane! He got a Dodge Demon 170 1170HP. He did the "Jailbreak" program, with a one-of-kind paint job. He said there's a little more to it which we'll find out about soon. Always great to talk with Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho Grammy-nominated guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd has announced a batch of tour dates for winter 2024, which will support the release of his upcoming new album, Dirt on My Diamonds, Vol. 1. BIO: Kenny Wayne Shepherd's virtuosic guitar skills, rooted in a deep understanding of blues traditions, seamlessly blend classic elements with contemporary rock sensibilities, breathing new life into the blues-rock genre and captivating audiences worldwide. Through his electrifying performances and critically acclaimed albums, he has become a torchbearer for blues rock, inspiring a new generation of guitarists and leaving an indelible mark on the music landscape. Recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, 'Dirt On My Diamonds' showcases Shepherd's ever-evolving sound, blending modern urban influences with traditional blues undertones. “Every record I make is a moment in time. And this is a really special moment,” Kenny describes. Shepherd and his favorite co-writers threw out the rulebook, writing non-stop for three days. “Nothing was off-limits, we just let the good stuff rise to the top." At a time when life often feels bleak and bone-raw, Shephard was intentional about the subject matter he covered. “There's not a lot of incredibly heart-wrenching or difficult subject matter," he explains. "I didn't want this record to be dark or dreary. My goal is always to make music that makes people feel good.” And of course, you feel the history down there in Muscle Shoals. "You feel it in the air at a studio like FAME,” he adds. Say What Needs Saying: The Most Controversially Civil Conversation Podcast
In this episode of 'Say What Needs Saying', Two police officers are interviewed to share their perspectives concerning many of the current issues affecting the black community. Our hosts ask questions particular to events concerning police brutality and the experience in general with their jobs in these times. FOLLOW US ON YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC73tZwWASIBbHEQ8ALkhzJA/ Say What Needs Saying: Blue on Black, An Interview with 2 Black Police officers ❏ Introducing today's guests, 2 police officers, "Officer Ben' and Officer Delvon'. - [00:42] ❏ The officers share their opinions on the idea of Systemic Racism. Firstly, the training depends on the city, and it is pointed out that big cities offer better police training. This is because there is no national guideline for police training. To prove that an officer might be racist in their work, several statistics based on the officer's work record have to be combined and reviewed, and this is done by the FBI. Both officers agree that Systemic Racism does not exist in their opinion, however, Racism on an individual basis cannot be completely expelled. - [07:50] ❏ What part of police training should be carried out more on the federal level and what can be left to the state level? While there may not be much of a role for the federal government to play in terms of actual training, they can provide more funding for smaller states, and mandates or requirements for police officers from all states. - [17:00] ❏ Addressing the movement to defund the police and likely consequences, all first responders, as well as the community as a whole will suffer as they will be direct victims of this step. For example, the firefighters often request that the police first get to a scene and make sure it is safe, this combined with the usual police emergencies, means defunding will result in a severe shortage of officers to handle emergencies. Also, defunding will inevitably lead to a reduction in aspects of training that require the involvement of specialists in other fields, ultimately reducing the quality of the training as a whole. The issue with the reallocation of police funds is that whichever field these funds are sent to, ultimately cannot replace the police but are meant to be an adjunct to police intervention, and so reallocation of funds will still result in a police shortage even in the presence of the newly funded aspects. - [24:36] ❏ About the movements; 'Thin Blue Line', 'Back The Blue'. It firstly signifies respect to all those who have fallen in the line of duty. These organizations step in to assist the family in several ways after an officer is lost in action. A lot of officers also take it as pride in their work and in the service they provide. In a way, it serves as a retort in support of the police, to other movements that tend to attach a generalized negative label to cops. It is important to note, however, that while these negative labels seem predominant on social media, our officers point out that the reverse is the case in their day to day interactions with people where they get a lot of support. - [33:30] ❏ Semantic overload is a scenario that occurs when a word or phrase has more than one meaning, often leading to confusion. A typical case is the Black Lives Matter movement. - [47:35] ❏ What does being a police officer mean to you? Both officers share a sincere drive to help and to serve the community. It is important to take the effort to know your police officers and have conversations with them about these major issues. Officer Delvon introduces his podcast "Views from the Arch". Officer Ben encourages listeners to join the "Starfish assignment" that works with police officers to identify people who need help within the community. - [01:00:05] --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/say-what-needs-saying/support

What is the mood of Ivan Moody these days? Jeremy Spencer answers that question on episode 59 of the DOMKcast. Lunchbox and Promo Brady had a great chat with him a few weeks back after they wrapped up their tour with Shinedown. As their former record label mumps around about the new album release by Five Finger Death Punch "And Justice For None", Jeremy Spencer talks about how proud he and his band-mates are of the new music. Covers have been a strength of the band throughout their career with renditions of "Bad Company" and "Gone Away". On the new album they included a cover of "Blue On Black" originally done by Kenny Wayne Shepard Band. Jeremy discussed how they come up with these "outside the box" covers. The process just might involve Ivan Moody cranking out some vocals during karaoke night at a bar somewhere. Jeremy has dabbled in acting in the past. Hear if he has any projects on the horizon. New album "And Justice For None" out now. Enjoy the full conversation with Jeremy Spencer of Five Finger Death Punch on episode 59 of the DOMKcast.

Everyone who works in retail has heard that shopping malls are the dominant shopping force in the UAE. Well, if this past Black Friday was any indicator, things may be changing. While preliminary figures are still not available for the past weekend, anecdotal evidence suggests that defenders of brick and mortar stores may have to eat a little crow with their turkey this year. Malls, due largely to their communal nature, still did a brisk business this past weekend due to the emirate-wide Super Sale, but Black (and White!) Friday sales online were also booming, so much so that several retailers had to delay some deliveries due to a surge in demand. It ain’t over yet, either. Today is Cyber Monday, which means more online deals. It’s just time to face facts. E-Commerce, thanks largely to Souq.com and a few others, has arrived in the Middle East. The new question is: What will physical retailers do to adapt? Ed will be talking to retailers at the Middle East Retail Forum, which starts today.
A great session from Grand Boulevard during the 30A Songwriter Festival with local girl Kelsey Waters. Raised on 30A, Kelsey grew up in the music saturated orbit of a mother who loved to sing and a father who loved to listen. Kelsey moved to Nashville at twenty and quickly began making inroads on Music Row. She signed a publishing deal with Little Extra Music and now works with some of her songwriting idols, including Lori McKenna ("Girl Crush", "Humble & kind") & Tia Sillers ("I Hope You Dance", "There's Your Trouble", "Blue On Black”), building a growing catalog of songs that are both universal and reflective of her unique slant on life. Working on a new album, she debuted one of her songs entitled "Cool Cars" for us live in the 30A Radio airstream studios. Enjoy today's release of our latest SWF session with Kelsey Waters!
