Shonica Gooden (Hamilton Broadway's Woman 4) was born and raised in Atlanta, where she focused on what was supposed to be a thriving modern dance career. She had zero interest in musical theatre and didn't see herself as a triple threat. Luckily, her teachers at DanceMakers of Atlanta did see her as a triple threat and strongly encouraged Shonica to audition for Bring It On. This led to callbacks and work sessions with Alex Lacamoire and Andy Blankenbuehler, and it would prove to be the start of a beautiful friendship with The Cabinet. Shonica had the incredibly unique experience working with Andy Blankenbuehler in the pre-production phase of Hamilton, and she was one of the dancers Andy called to help him visualize what would end up being the choreography in the show. It was a shock to everyone (especially Andy) when Shonica turned down the opportunity to be a swing when Hamilton was transferring to Broadway. As Shonica explains, it was a terrifying decision that ended up being the right move. Plus, Shonica talks about being a mother on Broadway including not feeling guilty about having a child, what needs to change in the industry, refusing to make excuses, and teaching her son that being busy is normal because she's not giving up her career anytime soon. This week, help us help you show you the money, as we dive in to the world of sports agents and romance with a 90s rom-com classic starring a man who frankly completes us on this podcast. It's 1996's Jerry Maguire, written and directed by Cameron Crowe and starring Tom Cruise, Renée Zellweger, Cuba Gooding Jr., Kelly Preston, Bonnie Hunt, Jerry O'Connell, Jay Mohr, Todd Louiso and Jonathan Lipnicki. A throwback to an era when Crowe actually made great films (or any films at all), this one's got plenty of charming and funny performances and almost more plot than it's 2h20m runtime even knows what to do with, and we get into the nitty-gritty as to whether Rod Tidwell's NFL free agency arc even makes sense in reality. Plus: J Mo's got another theatrical field report fresh off of a Valentine's trip to see Heart Eyes! If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our conversation, Jerry Maguire is currently streaming on Crave, Starz, and free with ads on the CTV app in Canada at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include Captain America: Brave New World, Happy Death Day (2 U), Freaky, Werewolves Within, Thanksgiving, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Starman, Star Trek Beyond, Down With Love, Bring It On, Yes Man, Liar Liar, My Best Friend's Wedding, Men In Black, Starship Troopers, Say Anything..., Singles, Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, Mission: Impossible III, Elizabethtown, Gran Turismo, Magnolia, Tropic Thunder, Edge of Tomorrow, Anyone But You, and Fargo, among many more. We'll be back next week to wrap up Feb2ary Is For Lovers with our final-Friday-of-the-month canon consideration, as Hayley nominates 10 Things I Hate About You to enter the hallowed halls of the pod-canon this month. That film can currently be found streaming in Canada on Disney+, Crave, Starz and Hollywood Suite. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

While there's no shortage of external critics ready to judge us on any given day, none can match the relentless voice of our own inner critic. Always prepared with an arsenal of “evidence” to justify its stance, this inner voice excels at “keeping us in our place,” often at the expense of our confidence and growth. This poses a significant problem: countless human potential is squandered through self-diminishing inner dialogue. In this episode, Thom sheds light on the nature of the inner critic, revealing that it's far from a new phenomenon. He explains how it can be effectively overcome using a simple yet powerful technique—one that unlocks a wide range of transformative benefits.Episode Highlights[00:45] The Prosecutor and the Advocate[03:53] The Discriminating Force[06:02] Evolution of the Ego[09:37] Biased Intellect[12:41] Breaking the Cycle with Vedic Meditation[15:24] I Am Totality[18:41] A Schism Begins[20:58] The Prosecutorial Intellect Capitulates: Self-Doubt Disappears[23:48] It Takes a Thorn to Remove a Thorn[28:12] Bring It On!Useful Linksinfo@thomknoles.com https://thomknoles.com/https://www.instagram.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.facebook.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/thomknoleshttps://thomknoles.com/ask-thom-anything/
