Fleetwood Mac lore runs DEEP and today we're breaking it down from the beginning.Part 1: Peter Green creates a band, does some bad drugs, and quits the band. The guitarist does some bad drugs, quits the band and joins a cult. The rest of the band keeps touring and putting out albums every six months because apparently there were also good drugs at the time.Part 2: The new guy has an affair with Fleetwood's wife so the band breaks up and Fake Fleetwood Mac takes over. The OG Fleetwood Mac sues their manager for their name. They settle out of court and hire Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks and record an album titled "Fleetwood Mac" which does really well. Like, chart-topping well. They're facing increased pressure to create a follow up hit and all of their personal relationships start to fall apart. They decide to air their dirty laundry and create Rumours which does even better than their other smash hit. They got a grammy and charted for 30 Sources:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleetwood_Machttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Green_(musician)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Spencerhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_McViehttps://www.elle.com/culture/music/a42977664/fleetwood-mac-timeline/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=mgu_ga_elm_md_pmx_hybd_mix_us_20071786260&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20076302534&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtpLABhC7ARIsALBOCVp66ZaJM2lsCY1Twljnoj8GemOzPt-Vec6ZdLa0yVmv2MWffDuLgNwaAozqEALw_wcBDonate to Palestinian Children's Relief Fund::www.pcrf.netDonate to Mutual Aid Funds: https://www.folxhealth.com/library/mutual-aid-fundsGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. It opens in fact with a “cast of characters”, the 18 one-time members, as if dramatis personae in a play, a play that gets more outlandish and dumbfounding with every new discovery and much of it based on his interviews and meetings with most of them (including Peter Green). A few highlights here … … how Stevie Nicks arrived as the spare part of a package deal and rose to become indispensable. … the fake Fleetwood Mac and the Jeremy Spencer and Peter Green impersonators (which involves an egg and potato farmer from Essex). … why you should watch the Tusk video repeatedly (and its ruinous cost).  … Bill Clinton, Daisy Jones & the Six, the dancing pony, Guardians of the Galaxy and other key factors in the return of the Mac.    … from model to muse to psychotherapist, the story of the real life Black Magic Woman. … “Oh Lord, she's writing another song.” … internal romantic tangles that give their music a poignancy. … the horrors of Kiln House. … Lyndsey Buckingham's Armani/Clash episode. … Stevie's love affair with Derek Taylor who then had to promote a slow-selling album containing a secret song about it. … Mick Fleetwood, “old ham”, drag act, compulsive show-off, unsuitable band manager.   Order ‘Dreams: the Many Lives of Fleetwood Mac' here:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dreams-Many-Lives-Fleetwood-Mac/dp/1639367322Find out more about how to help us to keep the conversation going: https://www.patreon.com/wordinyourear Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. When Jesus Met The Hippies 2023).

Jonnie Larmore's story is as fascinating as it is traumatic.   Jonnie was born into a cult called ‘The Children of God' or ‘The Family International', as it later became known. While its origins in 1968 were relatively conservative, under evangelist David Berg's leadership it quickly grew into an authoritarian cult engaging in the physical and sexual abuse of its children. At one point, ‘The Family' had more than 30,000 followers across the world including the Phoenix family and Jeremy Spencer of Fleetwood Mac fame. Rates of drug addiction and suicide are well-known in children who grow up in cults.   Jonnie however, has been able to move past his early childhood trauma to make a success of his life.   Up until recently, he was an active member of the Special Emergency Response Team.  SERT is the highly secretive police team which protect the public against everything from terrorism threats to sieges and hostage situations. Having met Jonnie, I know we are in safe hands! Many thanks to my sponsor for this interview, Bennett and Co Financial.

The Love Prophet & The Children of God 1998).

Oops...we did it again? Yep, we tend to get lost in our passion sometimes, especially when we have an AMAZING Third Lad who's a subject matter expert at the topic at hand. So lace up your boots and join us in the mosh pit for an extended journey through the sounds, sights, and smells of the Southern California punk scene. With so many great songs, how do we narrow it down to five apiece?!? While the London and New York scenes understandably take up a lot of space in the punk rock annals, SoCal also had a vital and very distinctive brand of punk - often faster, more aggressive, and more violent than their peers. While Los Angeles was the epicentre, Orange County and San Diego both notably contributed plenty of classics of the genre. One of the first wave of San Diego punk bands to make a splash was The Executives, who released an impossibly rare EP in 1980 and played with just about every legendary band both in and out of the area. Our Third Lad this week is Executives' singer Michael Jenks, who gives us a thrilling first hand account of the rise of punk in Southern California, the chaotic San Diego scene, their recordings and their reformation. Plus: Michael and Brett share some "bro time!" Uncle Gregg whiffs with the ladies (and ruins everything)! Solid parenting advice! The downside of being a Britpop fan! Thanks to Executives' current guitarist Jeremy Spencer, who the O3L "street team" met at a Hoodoo Gurus show in May, ultimately leading to this enriching and entertaining couple of hours! Speaking of great SoCal punk, we have found it alive, well, and living in the Mojave Desert with Joshua Tree's Ingrates. Brett recently saw Ingrates open up for Terry Six (The Exploding Hearts) in Los Angeles, and was so impressed with their class of '77 punk energy-meets-power pop hooks that he reached out to the guys about thrusting them into the O3L Spotlight. This week, we play their latest single, the infectious "Don't Be A Stranger." You can find Ingrates music at: https://ingrates.bandcamp.com. Learn more about your ad choices. This is an episode about cults music. Music by and for cults, music of The Cult, and so on. But there is one thing I need to make clear. THIS IS NOT A SERIOUS LOOK AT CULTS! This is the exact opposite. And to prove it, I'm joined by Blinker The Star's Jordon Zadorozny and multimedia artist extraordinaire, Vic Malang. There's a ton of cult music out there. We talk about L. Ron Hubbard, Father Yod, Aum Shinrikyo, Charles Manson, Brotherhood Of The Spirit, and several others. Vic reveals his Manson obsession and Jordon has a weird, tangential connection to Jeremy Spencer and the Children of God cult. We also talk about Joseph Stalin, shoegaze pioneer. And we get an awkward story from Jordon about Ian Astbury & The Cult The show finishes with a bit of cult-y history of the Blinker The Star and Vic Malang and their collaborations. Jordan and Vic's music can be found on Bandcamp. Check them out on Instagram @blinkerthestar & @vicmalang. Check us out @PerformanceAnx. In this episode of Influenced, we take a look at the career of one of the most iconic bands in pop music history, Fleetwood Mac. Formed in late '60s London by Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer and most importantly the iconic rhythm section (and band namesakes)  Mick Fleetwood and John Mcvie. The group was initially formed as a hard rocking Blues group inspired by Hendrix and the Yardbirds. With the addition of Christine Mcvie on Vocals and Keyboards, the band began to inch toward a pop rock sound as they began a rotating list of band members (15 musicians have past through the banks ranks) after the departure of Green. In the early '70s the band struck gold with the addition of Lindsey Buckinham and Stevie Nicks to the band. They would begin a string of hit songs (Rhiannon, Landslide, The Chain, Don't Stop and Songbird to name a few) and quicckly rose to the top of the industry with the release of the Rumours album. Constantly plagued by inter-personal drama within the band, they defy the odds and continued to put out albums across the next decades even with continued  shuffling of the iconic lineup of the group. Hello! Jeremy and his wife, through their design-build Melbourne-based business, Positive Footprints, specialise in Carbon Zero homes. This is their term for a home that is not only Net Zero, but also low in embodied energy.  What's all that mean? Well, we'll be discussing this in more detail, but in short - it means you have a home that produces more energy than it uses AND is considerate of how much energy went into the creation of the products, materials, fixtures and finishes it is constructed from. Which is great for you and the planet. This is a fantastic conversation with super actionable information on how to consider energy efficiency, sustainability and your carbon footprint in your home design and build. And about how simple it can be to achieve a net zero home as well.  As well as being an educator and former GreenLiving lecturer in an earlier life, Jeremy is a founding member of Builders Declare, and currently sits on the Design Matters Board, the Sustainability Hub, and the NatHERS Stakeholder Consultative Group.  I know you'll find what Jeremy has to share super helpful. I've broken our conversation into two episodes, so let's dive into Part 1 now - and be sure to tune into the next podcast to hear part 2.  Just head to www.undercoverarchitect.com/232. Jason Hook was born and grew up in Canada. His mother enrolled him in piano lessons at 6 years old. It didn't take long until he knew the piano wasn't for him. So he asked his mother if he could take guitar lessons instead. His father bought him an imitation Les Paul from Sears and Jason started playing guitar. A neighbor was forced to part with a few Kiss records and gifted them to Jason. He would listen to them while looking at the covers and decided that he wanted to be Kiss. He asked his father to buy him a bass and a drum kit so he could start forming bands which he did throughout his school years. After graduating high school, he started sneaking into bars which led to the desire to start a bar band. It didn't take long before that band was formed and signed to Electra records. To his dismay, shortly after they were dropped by the label, leaving him to make a big decision. He would either have to get a “real” job or move to L.A. to give music another shot. With a couple hundred bucks, he dead-headed from Canada to L.A. where he had one friend. He crashed on his friend's couch and began playing guitar with everyone and anyone he could. It was with one of those bands where he met Jeremy Spencer. The two of them knew they wanted to be in a band together. But after several projects, decided to do their own things. Jason began playing with Alice Cooper and Vince Neil while Jeremy answered an ad and began writing songs with Zoltan Bathroy and formed Five Finger Death Punch. While 5 F.D.P. were about to record their second album, Jason joined them and the recorded the Platinum selling “War is the Answer”
