The UN's human rights chief has demanded the US government withdraw sanctions it imposed on four judges at the International Criminal Court , the ICC. Volker Türk said in a statement that "attacks against judges" run directly counter to "respect for the rule of law and the equal protection of the law – values for which the US has long stood". US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the sanctions on Thursday, for what he described as the "illegitimate" targeting of Israel and the US. PM Netanyahu thanked Rubio and US President Donald Trump for the intervention, saying they had "stood up for the right of Israel". The sanctions are in response to the ICC issuing arrest warrants for top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and its investigation into alleged US war crimes in Afghanistan. The bodies of Gadi Haggai and Judy Weinstein-Haggai were recovered from Hamas captivity on Wednesday night in a military operation. They will be laid to rest today. Tzeela Gez from the West Bank settlement of Bruchin was buried in Jerusalem on Thursday evening. She was on her way to a hospital delivery ward on Wednesday night to give birth to her fourth child when a Palestinian terrorist opened fire. Israel and Germany celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations this week. President Isaac Herzog visits Germany on Monday for a one-day state visit at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Following the conclusion of the visit , the German President will return to Israel together with President Herzog for his own state visit, which will include, among other events, a visit to Kibbutz Be’eri – the Presidents’ second joint visit to the kibbutz since the outbreak of the war. The Presidents will also visit the National Library of Israel, and President Herzog will present the German President with the “Presidential Medal of Honor” at a state ceremony to be held in his honor at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem. Searches resumed Tuesday morning for a man believed to have been attacked by sharks yesterday off the coast of Hadera.The navy has joined the search effort and is using advanced technological equipment to that end. The man is a Petah Tikva resident in his 40s and a father of four. Beaches between Hadera and Netanya remain closed. The cabinet voted unanimously on Sunday in favor of a no-confidence motion against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, in a move designed by the government to hasten her dismissal from office.
