The Man who Does it all. The host for this show is Gwen Harris. The guest is Ryan LaValette. During this episode of The Hawaiian Smooth Jazz Connection we are talking with Ryan LaValette, from New Zealand, who is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger and engineer who started to play guitar, saxophone and the bass at an early age. Ryan was influenced by the music and style of guitar legend George Benson and he primarily considered himself a guitar player.A graduate of the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) Auckland, he was well aware that expanding outside New Zealand into America would be significant for his development. For his debut album Saturated Smooth (2018), he was able to win over guitarist Clay Benjamin and saxophonist Donald Hayes as guest musicians.Keyboardist and producer Greg Manning not only put him in touch with the Trippin 'N' Rhythm label, but also played a decisive role in his debut work for this label.Tune in to learn more about this amazing talented musician. The ThinkTech YouTube Playlist for this show is https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQpkwcNJny6mu08INpm2NDACAhtotdYSrPlease visit our ThinkTech website at https://thinktechhawaii.com and see our Think Tech Advisories at https://thinktechadvisories.blogspot.com.

WXVU was thrilled to have in-studio saxophonist Andrew Neu for a wide-ranging interview. WXVU's Nick Langan talked with Andrew about his internationally renown recording career, which includes time touring with Bobby Caldwell, Diane Schuur, Norman Brown and Smokey Robinson, the Philly Pops, and as an arranger with the Brian Pastor Big Band and the Dave Stahl Band. Andrew was born and raised in the Philadelphia area and still resides here today. He has released four Smooth Jazz CDs, and in 2018, released the album "Catwalk", a big-band jazz CD recorded at the famed Eastwest Studios in Los Angeles. Andrew began conducting the jazz ensemble at Swarthmore College in 2014, and he's conducted the jazz program at Lower Merion High School since 1999. His brother, Peter, conducts the jazz ensemble right here at Villanova! We had a blast discussing how he got into jazz, Andrew's instance on using live instruments in his recordings, to his latest single, produced by keyboardist Greg Manning, "Take It Home", which we are proud to be featuring prominently in our Smooth Jazz mix on WXVU. We hope to have Andrew back for another conversation very soon! Enjoy this WXV&U interview. For more information on Andrew, visit: https://www.andrewneu.com The intro song for the interview is "Night of the Mojito", off of Andrew's 2013 album, "Everything Happens For A Reason". The closing song is "Take It Home", Andrew's latest single.

Episode Highlights:01:42 I think every performer, no matter how long they've been performing, they still have a little bit of nervousness or apprehension before you get with the audience. But once you get out there and start communicating with them, you get in the zone. 04:57 One night I heard on the radio the song “Isn't She Lovely” and it just changed my life. I was so intrigued by everything by his voice, the composition, the instrument, the Fender Rhode piano. I've never been the same since. 08:04 I work for a company that's called Music that Heals and we play music for cancer patients, people in hospice and things like that. 09:02 I think music and art education is vital. 20:02 I think I'm like a sponge, anything can influence me.
