While they aren't looking to find trouble, trouble soon finds them when they become targets of the ruthless Cowboy gang. Now, together with Wyatt's best friend, Doc Holliday, the brothers pick up their guns once more to restore order to a lawless land. The film is loosely inspired by real events. Today the pond – tomorrow the world! Author Mark Clark returns to the show to talk about the epic (?) animal attack film FROGS (1972). We discuss that genre as well as the ecological horror sub-genre that this movie falls into comfortably. The goal with this episode was to limit ourselves to a single movie as a way to control the conversation, but that did not happen. Listing other 1970's eco-horror movies leads to a slippery slope that has us spending a little too much time talking about GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER. There is no reining us in! We discuss the cast and crew as we examine the film's rather relaxed pace. Mark lays the blame for most of the film's faults at the feet of the director and I have a hard time disagreeing. I admit to being shocked at the naked upper lip of Sam Elliot and remain convinced his character's name is significant in describing his place in the narrative. I mean, when the rich family being besieged by frogs is named Crockett the writers were clearly playing with descriptive nomenclature. Or they were just having a laugh. But the most interesting part of the show has to be Mark's theory about why the movie is named Frogs instead of after any of the more deadly creatures that assault the humans in the story. He may have something there but it had never occurred to me before. If you have any thoughts on FROGS or any of the other ecological horror movies of the 1970's thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to send them. Thank you for listening!

It's Justin's turn to see something he's never seen before, and I'm not just talking about Patrick Swayze's ass. Jake decided it was time to cover Road House, and so they do, kind of. Tara, Adam and Dave road trip to 2 road houses to play nice, have drink and throwdown with Jake Gyllenhaal and Patrick Swayze!Jake Gyllenhaal plays Ex-UFC fighter Dalton who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys road house, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems. This updated Roadhouse is directed by Doug Limen and premiered on Amazon Prime. And even though it didn't premiere in theaters like the creators wanted, it did attract 50 million viewers in its first two weekends. Also starring in this barroom romp is Connor McGregor, Daniela Melchoir and Billy Magnussen Plus a movie that PEOPLE ALSO WATCHED – especially the creators of the 2024 Road House remake, because it's the original Road House! Patrick Swayze plays a renown(?) bouncer who takes a job as a bouncer at a Missouri road house only to discover that this small, southern town paradise is not all it seems! Road House was released in 1989 and with Patrick Swayze, stars Sam Elliot and Kelly Lynch. It made a little over 61 million. Before Gyllenhaal there was Swayze. A silly premise of a film about a bouncer that comes to town to help turn around an out of control bar. Not enticing enough? What if we tell you he does tai chi and kicks so much ass? This one has it all. An R rating, solid soundtrack and of course the mustachioed man Sam Elliot as our hero's mentor. Check out our review and let us know what you think of the 1989 original Roadhouse.
*** Sorry for this being released again, and out of order. The original got deleted somehow... sorry again*** Patrick Swayze's career hit its peak in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, cementing his status as a Hollywood hearthrob. In the span of five years from 1987 to 1991, he starred in megahits Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, and this 1989 movie about a bouncer hired to clean up a rowdy honkytonk. Co-starring Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliot, Ben Gazzara and Kevin Tighe, the film was an instant Eighties classic despite not lighting up the box office and earning mostly-negative reviews at time of release. Roger Ebert wrote, “This is not a good movie. But viewed in the right frame of mind, it is not a boring one, either.” While it only grossed about $60 million at the box office, estimates on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray sales and cable/streaming licenses total north of $200 million. The film also earned a remake this year - which we'll be talking about next week! We're pulling up to the bar - and breaking it - with Road House! This week on Fabulous Film & Friends we're leaping head first into the bone-cracking, tooth-spitting, throat-ripping and monster-trucking action of the Road House movies! Both of them! That's the original 1989 version directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliot, Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazzara, Kevin Tighe, Marshall Teague, Julie Michaels, Red West, Kathleen Wilhoite and blink and you'll miss him, Keith David. As compared to the 2024 remake directed by Doug Liman and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Post Malone, Arturo Castro & Joaquim de Almeida. My tougher n' leather crew today is made up of Roseanne Caputi, George Young, David Johnson DMD and although we had to beg him back, the bruiser himself, Gordon Alex Robertson! Before we bite into all that throat-ripping goodness, the synopses: Road House ‘89 is an epic tale of real estate fraud, malfeasance, racketeering and monster truck mayhem when zen, philosophizing Big City club bouncer Dalton is hired by Missouri bar owner Frank Tilgheman to clean up his honky tonk club The Double Deuce. Getting top dollar of 5k a week, Dalton packs up and moves to the town of Jasper to get things moving. After beating up a few goons and cutting the pork out of the Double D, Dalton runs afoul of a local business tycoon, the most Italian looking Brad Wesley you've ever seen. Wesley wants the Double Deuce for his own purposes and he also wants Dalton's new girlfriend, the beautiful and brainy Dr. Elizabeth “Doc” Clay as his own. So Wesley's plan: KILL DALTON! Dalton enlists the aid of his friend and mentor Wade Garrett to help in the ensuing ruckus, but Garrett's skills are no match for Wesley's evil. Wesley kills Wade in doing so unleashes the raging raw brute force of a one man army that is…DALTON! Road House 24' basically follows the same plot as the original except it moves the locale to Florida and makes Dalton an ex-MMA star and gives him the first name Elwood. And speed boats take the place of Monster Trucks. And that's about it. Who wins the smackdown? This week on Fabulous Film and Friends we're covering a trio of Neo Noir films set in the city of…where else? Los Angeles, as we discuss 1998's The Big Lewbowski, directed by Joel and Ethan Coen and starring the extraordinary Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, David Huddleston, John Tutturo, Ben Gazara, David Thewlis, Tara Reid, Peter Stormare, Leon Russom and Sam Elliot against 2014's Inherent Vice directed by Paul Thomas Anderson starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Benicio Del Toro, Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short, Jena Malone, Maya Rudolph Martin Donovan and Hong Chau, topped off with 2018's Under the Silver Lake directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough, Topher Grace, Grace Van Patten, Riki Lindhome, Wendy vanden Heuvel, Callie Hernandez, Jimmi Simpson, Zosia Mamet, Jeremy Bob, Rex Lynn, Patrick Fischler and Sydney Sweeney. My guests today are Roseanne Caputi and back by popular demand, Gordon Alex Robertson! Before contemplating the endless currents of depth and consciousness, man, the synopses: The Big Lebowski, follows a lot of ins-and-outs and what-have-you's of a very complicated case when two goons working for porn king Jackie Treehorn mistakenly burst into the apartment of Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski demanding money that his supposed wife Bunny owes Jackie. Realizing their mistake but still adding the flourish of urinating on the Dude's favorite rug, the pair leaves and gets the hang loose and tolerant Dude's dander up. Dude the sets off finding the wealthy Jeffrey Lebowski that the pair were looking for and asks him for compensation for his soiled rug. The Big Lebowski flat out refuses the request, calls the Dude a bum, and kicks him out of his house. Surprisingly, a few days later The Big Lebowski summons The Dude to his mansion and asks him to act as a courier to a group of nihilists who have abducted his wife Bunny and are demanding a million dollars in ransom. With his reactionary ‘Nam vet bowling buddy Walter Sobchak at his side, the Dude enters a web of deception, greed and pain as he tries to make sense of the convoluted and problematical condition that he finds himself in. Inherent Vice ups the ante with ex-cop and junkie P.I. Larry “Doc” Sportello who follows a trail of real estate fraud, heroin smuggling, corrupt federal agents and dentists when his ex-girlfriend Shasta Faye re-enters his life and gives him the tip that her current boyfriend, real estate tycoon Mickey Wolfman, has a wife who is trying to have him committed. With rival LA Police Lt. Detective Christian “Bigfoot” Bjornsen working alternately, with and against him, Doc plows into the labyrinthian case headfirst aided by only his wits and piles of weed and coke in the desperate quest for the truth. Under the Silver Lake follows a journey through endless hidden messages, conspiracies and millennial self-discovery as perennial slacker Sam tries to uncover the truth regarding the disappearance of his beautiful neighbor Sarah, who vanishes without a trace a day after billionaire industrialist Jefferson Sevence is killed a car crash. Which film best exemplifies the whole L.A. thing? Find out!
Ray Milland rears his ugly head once again as we attempt to dissect 1972's Frogs, a movie that's almost exclusively about alligators and snakes apparently. Reptiles reap revenge on rich relatives! Fuck this frog in particular fling at the festivities! Play playing cards correctly, collect piece of Poppy's pie! Grumpy Gramps gonna get group got! Director decides that doggy dies! Proud Elliot's jean jumpsuit penis-pants! It's practically picnic! Snake wiener sleeves! Man spraying! Amphibious antagonists? Toupee tomfoolery! Butterfly brutality! Sam Elliot's moose knuckle! Lack of corpse urgency! Lady Crockett wants Pickett's cocket in her lady pocket but Pickett don't dick it! More like Lake Flaccid, amiright?! What do you do when you're host to some of the most depraved, dangerous, and downright murderous hive of scum and villainy west of the Mississippi? What do you do when they've infested your rural Missouri night club? You hire the best, of course! Well, not the best. Wade Garrett is the best, but he's old. Instead, you get James DALTON! This month, the gang takes a shot of Swayze with a little Sam Elliot chaser in 1989's bouncer epic, ROAD HOUSE (road house!). Listen as Tim, Nick, David, and Dean philosophize on what it means to be nice, and signs that tell you it's time to not be nice (hint: it's shortly after someone pulls out a switchblade). Think you're well-versed in the world-famous, nut-punching, knives out world of night club bouncers? Well, think again!
Just another Friday nights CM Chuck joins Joe to breakdown 1989's Road House. This essentially 80s classic featuring Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliot. His name is Dalton and just like Joe and Chuck we thought he'd be bigger.

This week Brett tries to turn the podcast into an old west podcast-just an excuse to use his John Wayne impression. We're going back to the wild wild west to explore the historic town of Tombstone, Arizona. We'll tell you how the town got its unusual name and we'll tell you all about the nightlife of the miners and cowboys. There are bird cages that aren't actually bird cages, fires, gun fights, ghosts, tapestries, stiletto knives, dinosaurs?-it's a real mixed bag. On What We're Watching, of course we discuss the 1993 movie Tombstone starring Kurt Russell, Sam Elliot, and Val Kilmer. And on Layla and Coffee talk, we tell you how a single lick of hot sauce nearly ended in an ER trip for Brett at Christmas We are having our first giveaway of 2024! And can Sam Elliot's “Wade” be recreated by Paul London? Well, you'll find out when you listen to this episode! Jill, Ken, and Paul joined Dustin and Zak at 2023's L.A. About two years ago, Buzzn The Tower had the absolute honor of having Rebecca Tickell on the show. If you don't know who Rebecca is, let me refresh your memory. In 1989 there was a movie called Prancer. It's about a farm girl who nurses a wounded reindeer she believes is one of Santa's, hoping to bring it back to health in time for Christmas. Her holiday spirit inspires those around her, something her disheartened father is having trouble understanding. You might remember her father, Sam Elliot, from such movies as Road House. And as far as the little girl with shine in her eye and Christmas in her heart, that's none other than Rebecca Tickell playing the role of Jessica Riggs. Two years ago we were lucky enough to have Rebecca on the show and now we have our first Buzzn The Tower holiday tradition! Each year we will dust off our interview, and give you all the pure joy of hearing from Jessica Riggs herself! Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
