How does listening to the Qur'an differ from reading it? What does it mean to approach the Qur'an not with your mind but with your whole existence? In this episode of Thinking Islam, Dr Abdolkarim Soroush proposes an existential encounter with the Qur'an, one that asks us to set aside our assumptions and approach it not as a book of law or philosophy but as maw'iẓa (admonition) that speaks to the whole being. This conversation explores the difference between reading and listening, why Rumi's Mathnawi is called the Persian Qur'an, and what it means to have a pure heart as a precondition for understanding the Qur'an. We delve into how kufr in the Qur'an is not about non-belief but about arrogance before truth, and why, as Dr Soroush tells us, the companion according to Sufis is everything.Dr Abdolkarim Soroush is a distinguished philosopher of religion and a leading voice in Islamic intellectual reform. A Visiting Scholar at the University of Maryland and former Professor at the University of Tehran, he has held visiting positions at Harvard, Princeton, and Yale Universities. Dr Soroush is renowned for his influential work on prophetic experience and his contributions to contemporary Islamic philosophy and Qur'anic hermeneutics.Audio Chapters:0:00 - Highlights01:30 - Relation between Qur'an & Its Reader07:20 - Uneven depth of the Qur'an13:09 - Reading vs Listening to Qur'an24:44 - Existential Reading of the Qur'an32:36 - Losing the Sense of Maw'iza in Translation39:33 - Rumi's Mathnawi: A Persian Qur'an44:50 - Pure Heart & Qur'an49:17 - Love & Companionship 55:19 - Is Qur'an not a Kitab?58:32 - Thinking Islam Question

If you're walking the autism recovery journey with your child, you've probably experienced moments that feel confusing—or even discouraging. Just when things seem to be improving, a behavior resurfaces. A new challenge shows up. Sleep shifts. Digestion changes. Emotions run higher. And the question creeps in: “Are we doing something wrong?” I want to gently reassure you today: Uneven progress is not only common—it's often a sign that healing is happening. Autism Recovery Is Not Linear One of the biggest misconceptions parents face is the idea that recovery should look like a straight line: Improvement → more improvement → no setbacks. But the body doesn't heal that way—especially when we're supporting neurological, immune, and detox pathways all at once. Healing tends to happen in layers and waves. You may see: A leap forward in communication, followed by emotional sensitivity Better sleep, paired with temporary digestive changes Increased awareness before behaviors settle down This doesn't mean you're going backward. It means the body is reorganizing and recalibrating. Why Behaviors Can Increase Before They Improve When the nervous system begins to regulate and the body starts clearing stored toxins or inflammation, it can temporarily feel uncomfortable. Children don't always have the words to express that internal shift—so it can come out as: Increased stimming Emotional outbursts Fatigue or restlessness Sensory sensitivity From a healing perspective, this often signals that the body is waking up, not shutting down. Signs Healing May Be Happening (Even If It Doesn't Look Like It Yet) Progress isn't always obvious at first, especially if we're only watching behaviors. Some early signs of healing include: Changes in sleep patterns (even if temporary) Digestive shifts or improved elimination Increased emotional expression or awareness More eye contact or curiosity Periods of fatigue followed by clarity or calm... Over half of Americans now live with neurological disorders, which significantly impact disability levels and quality of life. Tension headaches, migraines, stroke, and Alzheimer's are major contributors Neurological burden varies by region, with Southern states experiencing worse outcomes. Despite medical advances, mortality has decreased but long-term disability has increased due to longer lifespans Global brain-related disorders cost $1.7 trillion annually, with stroke and dementia the most expensive. High-income countries spend disproportionately more while lower-income nations face severe resource shortages Aging populations and rising care costs strain health systems, as inpatient and long-term care dominate expenses. Uneven access means outcomes depend heavily on geography, income, and health care infrastructure Improving neurological health requires targeting mitochondrial dysfunction through lowered linoleic acid intake, gradual gut repair, reducing electromagnetic field and plastic exposure

“Uneven” is for the person who loves deeply, consistently, and quietly, while realizing they are carrying the relationship alone. It's for anyone who has adjusted their needs, softened their voice, and stayed longer than they should have, hoping effort would eventually match emotion. This song speaks to the giver in a one-sided love, the one who reads between the lines, waits without asking, and finally understands that love without balance slowly turns into self-erasure. It's not about blaming the other person, it's about the moment you see the truth and feel the weight of loving more.
Silver Range Resources CEO Mike Power joined Steve Darling to discuss the current state of the junior mining financing market and how the company is positioning itself amid what he described as a slow but gradually improving environment. Power characterized the market as “a tale of two markets,” explaining that while overall financing activity has begun to trend upward, a significant portion of junior explorers continue to face severe capital constraints. He noted that more than 20% of junior mining companies are operating with less than $200,000 in funding, describing conditions at that level as “depression territory.” He said Silver Range closely tracks financing trends across the sector, particularly after a proposed deal with Altius stalled in 2023, reinforcing the importance of capital access. “Capital is the oxygen of the business,” Power emphasized, adding that while signs of recovery are emerging, the market is still far from fully healthy. He cautioned that the financing environment may not be “firing on all cylinders” until the second half of 2026. Turning to the company's project portfolio, Power highlighted the East Goldfield project, which is located adjacent to a development site owned by Centerra. He said the project represents a potential near-term exploration opportunity, with an estimated exploration target of between 55,000 and 70,000 ounces of gold based on results from 19 historical drill holes. Power noted that work at East Goldfield is expected to resume in the spring of 2026. Power also discussed the Alamo project, where soil sampling was completed in December and geophysical surveys are planned for the upcoming spring season. The project hosts historic high-grade production and exhibits strong surface mineralization, supporting its potential for future exploration success. Overall, Power said Silver Range remains focused on careful capital management and disciplined project advancement as the junior mining sector works through a prolonged but improving recovery cycle. #proactiveinvestors #silverrangeresources #tsxv #sng #mining #mikepower #nevada #eastgoldfield #JuniorMining #MiningFinance #ExplorationMarket #CapitalMarkets #GoldExploration #EastGoldfield #AlamoProject #PreciousMetals #MiningIndustry #ExplorationStrategy #CapitalDiscipline #MarketOutlook #ResourceDevelopment #ProactiveInvestors

Last month at the Future of TV Advertising Global event in London, three key brand marketers spoke about how they view the strengths of TV, particularly as they compare to other audio-visual platforms.Richard Brooke is the global media trading and operations director at Unilever. Sorin Patilinet is the global marketing effectiveness lead at PepsiCo. Alison Keith was until recently the head of global marketing effectiveness at Kraft Heinz and, before that, the VP of global media at Coty. The trio sat down with event producer and Media Leader contributor Justin Lebbon to discuss what brands want from the TV and where TV is now situated in their marketing strategies compared to other video platforms. Is TV still "cool"? Does it have a narrative problem with ad buyers? Is YouTube TV? Brooke, Patilinet and Keith unpacked a media channel in flux.Brooke also discussed why Unilever moved to increase its spend on social media platforms last year – a bold move that could well have heralded in a new era of confidence for the creator economy.Highlights:1:25: Reactions to TV consolidation3:40: TV is effective, but the creator economy is the shiny new thing8:21: The definition of “TV” is changing, but the standards of quality aren't the same15:19: Is ad investment consolidation in Big Tech platforms healthy?22:56: Less adspend is going through JICs. The conversation focused on the Pittsburgh Steelers' recent struggles and what lies ahead for the team. Much of the criticism centered on inconsistent play and a lack of reliable wide receivers, with DK Metcalf's suspension and stalled development of young talents like Calvin Austin and George Pickens drawing attention. While the Steelers' defense earned praise for its effort against the Browns, the offense continued to sputter. The upcoming matchup with the Ravens was debated, with expectations of a tight, low-scoring game. Broader concerns about player development and coaching strategies also shaped the discussion.#PittsburghSteelers #SteelersTalk #NFLDiscussion #NFLAnalysis #WideReceiverIssues #DKMetcalf #GeorgePickens #CalvinAustin #SteelersDefense #SteelersOffense #AFCNorth #RavensVsSteelers #CoachingTalk #PlayerDevelopment #FootballDebate #GridironTalk #NFLFans #ProFootball #SteelersNation #GamePreview

Send us a textSirens are blaring across Europe, but not all alarms sound like missiles. We unpack why NATO's call for urgency, defense spending, and a “wartime mindset” reveals more than geopolitics—it exposes a region wrestling with identity, fear, and the spiritual pressure of our age. As headlines fixate on Russia, we explore a deeper pattern: how rearmament, social fracture, and leadership fatigue can prime a culture to embrace a charismatic figure who promises order while delivering control.Drawing on Daniel's statue—the succession from gold to iron and clay—we connect today's map to an ancient blueprint. Uneven alliances, strong yet brittle, match the mood of a Europe that feels both powerful and fragile. We trace how passive leadership and widening distrust make big promises feel irresistible, and why a final coalition could emerge from the same geography that once housed empires. Along the way, we confront a hard truth: oppression is rising, hate is spreading, and spiritual warfare is not a metaphor. The answer is not panic but a steady walk with Jesus, anchored in Scripture, strengthened by prayer, and lived out in community. We also tackle tough questions about migration, national loyalty, and the willingness of a younger generation to fight—asking whether conscription-era assumptions still hold in a world of dual passports and frayed civic bonds. More importantly, we return to the hope that frames every warning: God watches over his word to perform it. History has a King. Our task is to stay awake, love well, and carry each other through the pressure with clear eyes and courageous hearts. If this conversation helped you see the times more clearly, subscribe, share the episode with a friend, and leave a review. When one partner grows faster, it doesn't mean the relationship is failing. Uneven healing is one of the most painful dynamics couples face. One partner finds language, boundaries, and insight. The other is still trying to feel safe. This episode isn't about who's “ahead.” It's about how healing actually unfolds, and how couples stay connected when growth isn't synchronized. Because growth isn't a competition, and pressure isn't intimacy. If this feels familiar, this episode is for you. Listen, reflect, and notice what lands.
The U.S. labor market is showing further signs of cooling, as the latest jobs report indicates that unemployment has risen to its highest level in four years. There was some good news as payrolls climbed by 64,000 new jobs last month. The delayed report was due to the six-week government shutdown. Geoff Bennett discussed the numbers with David Wessel of the Brookings Institution. PBS News is supported by - https://www.pbs.org/newshour/about/funders. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy
AP correspondent Marcela Sanchez reports on how consumers are coping with increased prices this holiday season.
The US economy has faced many challenges in 2025: the direct effects of a government shutdown and the associated uncertainty because of the unavailability of economic statistics; the imposition of high, and varying, tariffs; concerns about affordability; and plunging consumer confidence. But, as Mark Zandi points out in this episode of EconoFact Chats, the economic fortunes of people vary across income groups, with the top third of the distribution benefitting from the strong stock market, the middle third concerned about their jobs and the cost of living, and the bottom third facing painful price increases, cuts in government support, and stalled hiring. Much remains uncertain as we finish the year and look ahead to 2026, and Mark discusses what to look for and how things may play out. Mark is Chief Economist at Moody's Analytics. He serves on the board of directors of MGIC, the nation's largest private mortgage insurance company, and is the lead director of Reinvestment Fund, one of the nation's largest community development financial institutions.
Pete Turek — a TransUnion® SVP responsible for overseeing relationships with more than 120 of the nation's leading financial institutions — join Josh and Craig this month to unpack insights from the latest Consumer Industry Insights Report. The discussion highlights a “K-shaped” dynamic in lending, with strong growth at both ends of the credit spectrum, record personal loan originations and Gen Z's rising influence. The conversation also covers tighter credit lines, longer auto loan terms, delinquency trends across products and the impact of the recent government shutdown. Looking ahead, the group examines how tax season, student loan offsets and macroeconomic factors could shape consumer credit performance in early 2026. For lenders and risk professionals, this episode offers a clear, data-driven view of where consumer credit stands — and what's next. Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open the week by reviewing the Toronto Maple Leafs up-and-down weekend. The guys gauge the disappointment of Friday's loss to Washington against the satisfaction of Saturday's win, noting the unusual nature of a less dominant 7–2 victory over Pittsburgh. They highlight emerging positives, including Dennis Hildeby's strong play, the potential for giving Joseph Woll more rest, Max Domi's fit in the lineup, and effective defensive pairings despite injuries. After the break, they shift to the Toronto Raptors' losses to Charlotte and New York, evaluating what the results reveal about the team's status as an Eastern Conference contender, their scoring concerns when Brandon Ingram struggles, and how the group measures up to preseason expectations. They wrap up the hour with NFL talk, touching on perceptions of the 49ers, the boundaries of trash talk, the legitimacy of the Panthers, and Max Brosmer's rough performance. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

To explore these challenges, we're joined by Dr. Ralph Nyland, Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Silviculture at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
