This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.splitzoneduo.comExtra Points publisher Matt Brown joins Alex and Richard for this subscriber edition of the Sports Business Hour, starting with the Big 12's RedBird Capital deal and why a lot of schools that need money might still say no to expensive outside cash. From there, the group gets into what “revenue generation” can mean for a conference office, how Utah's private-equity idea differs from a loan, why winning alone is a shaky athletic department business plan, and what Duke's new Amazon arrangement does and does not reveal about the future of conference s media rights. The episode closes with Brendan Sorsby's unsettled gambling case, where NCAA enforcement, Texas Tech, the NFL, and some (actually) serious lawyers could all wind up in the same big story. In this subscriber episode:* 0:16: RedBird, private capital, and why many Big 12 schools may pass on the league's new borrowing option.* 5:00: Why the conference office, specifically, is taking the money* 15:02: The latest in “winning is not a business model,” with case studies from Indiana and South Carolina* 23:02: ACC meetings primer: Uneven schedules, tiebreakers, revenue-sharing stakes, and a looming (but still quiet) realignment problem* 30:35: Duke's Amazon games, ESPN's role, Big Ten objections, and why this is not a template for big football brands peeling off TV rights.* 49:36: New developments in the Brendan Sorsby caseThanks to Matt. Emerging markets have weathered a string of global shocks since 2019 with more resilience than in past cycles, supported by stronger policy frameworks, deeper local markets and larger buffers. We discuss why credit outcomes are increasingly uneven across EMs, how a more fragmented global economy is reshaping trade and financing, and why investors are focusing on country-by-country differentiation. Looking ahead, we explore what could test that resilience next, including high interest rates, debt-affordability pressures and the policy choices that will separate stronger credits from weaker ones. When public school districts offer options like magnet schools and dual-language programs, families who are richer, whiter, and higher-achieving are more likely to opt in. Meanwhile, students who would benefit most are least likely to apply. In this episode, Chicago Booth economist Chris Campos explains why the participation architecture of school choice matters as much as the quality of the schools themselves, and why information campaigns alone aren't enough to close the gap.

Things used to be simpler. Competition fueled innovation. When wars were fought, you could easily tell who the good guys were. Institutions could be trusted. A lens like this might feel right, but is it true? Richard Hames doesn't think so. Operating at the intersection of complex systems thinking, philosophy, foresight and organizational readiness for decades, Richard has observed the fracturing – and near collapse – of our societal and governing anchors. But this gradual transition, this disconnection from the ‘old world', while unsettling, is neither good nor bad. For this future, Richard says openness and curiosity will serve us better than the best preparation.---Learn more:Looking Outside podcast www.looking-outside.comConnect with host, Jo Lepore on LinkedIn & Substack & jolepore.comConnect with Richard on LinkedInTalk to AI Richard www.upgradethesystem.comMore at richardhames.com---⭐ Follow & rate the show - it makes a difference!---Looking Outside is a podcast exploring fresh perspectives of familiar topics. When an IVF cycle fails, the focus usually shifts to the next protocol. Different medications. Higher doses. Another retrieval. But an IVF cycle produces a huge amount of biological data that is rarely fully analyzed before repeating treatment. Ovarian response, egg maturity, embryo development, and the internal environment around transfer all provide important signals about what may be influencing the outcome. Yet many couples are encouraged to move forward with another cycle before those patterns are carefully reviewed. In this episode, we step back and walk through how to interpret a failed IVF cycle from a systems perspective so the next decision is based on biology, not momentum. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why a failed IVF cycle contains important biological clues that often go unexamined • What a true IVF cycle audit should include before repeating a protocol • The patterns in ovarian response, egg maturity, and embryo development that may reveal underlying imbalances • Why embryo development reflects whole body physiology, not just the laboratory environment • How to decide whether repeating a cycle makes sense or whether a different approach should be considered I'm Sarah Clark, founder of Fab Fertile and host of Get Pregnant Naturally. For over a decade, my team and I have reviewed hundreds of low AMH and failed IVF cases using functional testing alongside conventional fertility care. We specialize in helping couples identify the physiological patterns driving poor outcomes so decisions are grounded in interpretation, not guesswork. If you've been moving from cycle to cycle without a clear way to evaluate what's actually been addressed, I created a free resource called the Embryo Audit Checklist. It helps you organize past cycles and labs so you can see what's been looked at and what may not have been considered yet. Access it here.

How does listening to the Qur'an differ from reading it? What does it mean to approach the Qur'an not with your mind but with your whole existence? In this episode of Thinking Islam, Dr Abdolkarim Soroush proposes an existential encounter with the Qur'an, one that asks us to set aside our assumptions and approach it not as a book of law or philosophy but as maw'iẓa (admonition) that speaks to the whole being. This conversation explores the difference between reading and listening, why Rumi's Mathnawi is called the Persian Qur'an, and what it means to have a pure heart as a precondition for understanding the Qur'an. We delve into how kufr in the Qur'an is not about non-belief but about arrogance before truth, and why, as Dr Soroush tells us, the companion according to Sufis is everything.Dr Abdolkarim Soroush is a distinguished philosopher of religion and a leading voice in Islamic intellectual reform. A Visiting Scholar at the University of Maryland and former Professor at the University of Tehran, he has held visiting positions at Harvard, Princeton, and Yale Universities. If you're walking the autism recovery journey with your child, you've probably experienced moments that feel confusing—or even discouraging. Just when things seem to be improving, a behavior resurfaces. A new challenge shows up. Sleep shifts. Digestion changes. Emotions run higher. And the question creeps in: “Are we doing something wrong?” I want to gently reassure you today: Uneven progress is not only common—it's often a sign that healing is happening. Autism Recovery Is Not Linear One of the biggest misconceptions parents face is the idea that recovery should look like a straight line: Improvement → more improvement → no setbacks. But the body doesn't heal that way—especially when we're supporting neurological, immune, and detox pathways all at once. Healing tends to happen in layers and waves. You may see: A leap forward in communication, followed by emotional sensitivity Better sleep, paired with temporary digestive changes Increased awareness before behaviors settle down This doesn't mean you're going backward. It means the body is reorganizing and recalibrating. Why Behaviors Can Increase Before They Improve When the nervous system begins to regulate and the body starts clearing stored toxins or inflammation, it can temporarily feel uncomfortable. Children don't always have the words to express that internal shift—so it can come out as: Increased stimming Emotional outbursts Fatigue or restlessness Sensory sensitivity From a healing perspective, this often signals that the body is waking up, not shutting down. Signs Healing May Be Happening (Even If It Doesn't Look Like It Yet) Progress isn't always obvious at first, especially if we're only watching behaviors. Some early signs of healing include: Changes in sleep patterns (even if temporary) Digestive shifts or improved elimination Increased emotional expression or awareness More eye contact or curiosity Periods of fatigue followed by clarity or calm... Over half of Americans now live with neurological disorders, which significantly impact disability levels and quality of life. Tension headaches, migraines, stroke, and Alzheimer's are major contributors Neurological burden varies by region, with Southern states experiencing worse outcomes. Despite medical advances, mortality has decreased but long-term disability has increased due to longer lifespans Global brain-related disorders cost $1.7 trillion annually, with stroke and dementia the most expensive. High-income countries spend disproportionately more while lower-income nations face severe resource shortages Aging populations and rising care costs strain health systems, as inpatient and long-term care dominate expenses. Uneven access means outcomes depend heavily on geography, income, and health care infrastructure Improving neurological health requires targeting mitochondrial dysfunction through lowered linoleic acid intake, gradual gut repair, reducing electromagnetic field and plastic exposure
