The Minister for Agriculture insists all Clare farmers will receive their payments under the Suckler Cow Efficiency Programme before the end of the year. Under the scheme farmers can receive up to €150 for the first 22 cows in their herd and €120 on the remainder to improve environmental sustainability on farms. Clare currently has the fourth largest suckler herd in the country this year, with 4,012 cattle and the large uptake of the scheme had led to concerns due to application processing delays.
