In this episode of the Millionaire Mindcast, we have a spectacular guest, Chris Harder who shares experience, insights, and tips to make your dream lifestyle, financial literacy, building the budget and money management, the timeline for unlocking real ROI and success, the formula for any kind of come back, how to level up business revenue during these COVID-19 times and much more about wealth building! Chris Harder is an entrepreneur, executive life & career coach, philanthropist, entrepreneurial and public speaking coach, motivational speaker, investor, and host of the For The Love Of Money Podcast, a show that shares the secrets, tips, and incredible stories of how successful people have risen to the top, and what they've done to make this world a better place as a result of their success. During the last recession, Chris and his wife started over again. They stripped everything not just financially but everything that comes along with it. Why did it happen? He admits they didn't take care of their money and didn't take it seriously. It came to the point that everything they've put in their house ends in Craigslist and judged by their neighbors. It was the most humiliating point of his life from an ego and financial standpoint. But it turned out to be the best point of their life as he found their runaway, and invented a new income source. Chris believes that opportunity changes shape, therefore, he took advantage of it and recognizes where and how it is changing. Just like finding ways how to bring your business revenue to the next level during these COVID times, and not screwed like anyone else. But adapting the changes in people's behavior and innovating. Furthermore, patience, clarity, and making pivots in order to get the destination and outcome you've wanted. By living within your means and not being scared of the numbers. Figure out how much it does actually need to make to cover either today's budget or the dream budget. Don't let social media actually lose the touch of the actual value of a dollar or a hundred or a million. In addition, Chris emphasizes to start not giving in the dark but where people see it to start the positive chain reaction for others to be inspired with and do the same. However, it is fine to go through selfish motivation first in order to get to the unselfish motivation. You just have to enjoy the journey, enjoy the ride, get the things, create the income-producing machine, and when you finally get that calling of giving, then lean into it. As an advocate of multiple income sources, Chris suggests building a lifestyle as though if any one of your income sources went away today, you would have not to change your lifestyle tomorrow! Sandra Younger lost her home, 12 neighbors and nearly her own life in a catastrophic California wildfire. Her best-selling book about the disaster, The Fire Outside My Window, is praised by Amazon reviewers and studied by top-level emergency professionals. After the fire, Sandra discovered that personal resilience is both a natural strength and a skill set we can build like a muscle. Combining her own recovery experience with leading academic research, she developed The ComeBACK Formula™—a five-step system of powerful, commonsense practices proven to transform disaster into opportunity and loss into legacy. She teaches the approach in The ComeBACK Formula Guidebook. Sandra now shares her resilience-boosting message as an international speaker, workshop leader and media guest. She’s appeared on NBC’s Dateline, ABC, CBS, PBS, CBC, Fox, the CW and more than 20 podcasts. Key Points from the Episode with Sandra Younger: Sandra Younger and her husband moved into their dream home outside of San Diego in 2003. Then one night, they woke up in the middle of what was the biggest wild fire in California history at that point (and for 14 more years). The fire was set unintentionally by a hiker who was lost and set a signal fire to help himself get rescued. She and her husband grabbed all they could, including their large Newfoundland dogs and their bird, and jumped in their car. As they backed out of their driveway, they saw that their home was about to be engulfed in flames. They drove down the mountain they were on unable to see anything due to the smoke, with a bobcat suddenly appearing in front of their headlights, which acted as their guide down the mountain as it, too, tried to escape the blaze. Interestingly, she made a point of steering toward the darkness, since the road was the only thing not burning. It was very significant that she was steering into the dark. While she and her husband survived, their 12 neighbors did not. That got them the label of survivor, which she has actually never taken to as it labels you a victim and feels disempowering. Victim, to Sandra, is about not being overpowered rather than overcoming and triumphing. Instead, you can be a Survivor, who turn into Victors over time. She ended up writing a book about the experience and being triumphant over it, which is called The Fire Outside My Window. What she learned through writing it is that some people embraced the label “victim” and some did not. Those who did seemed to be looking for justice while those who did not use the label were trying to live their lives by moving forward. What was more interesting to her is that the ones who used the labels were not the ones who lost the most. Those who lost family, friends – including some who lost their children – who refused to use the label felt that the fire had already taken enough, and they would not let it take any more from their life. The one who held onto the label “victim” the most lost a detached garage and its content, but nothing else. That is so interesting to Sandra and what it says about our ability to see a path forward and the choice involved in that path. While we do not get to choose what happens to us, we get to choose our response, which Sandra calls, “Our story.” Sandra’s book is really about resilience, which she discovered through the research she did in writing her book. What she found is that we can build resilience like we do a physical muscle through purposeful practices. She boiled all the research down into five practices to change disaster into opportunity. She calls this The Come BACK Formula. It starts with the word “Come”, which means, “Come from a place of gratitude.” This seemed to be a difference between victims and survivors – the former focused on what they lost while the latter focused on what they have. B- be patient with the pain. No matter what the experience, there is a process to coming back, so you need to be patient through that. A- accept help when it’s offered, and be tough enough to ask for it when you need it. C- choose your story, your response. Man Search for Meaningby Viktor Franklis incredibly helpful in building this strength. K- keep moving forward. It isn’t about just persistence but also detaching from this past that is no longer happening so you are free to embrace the possibilities and opportunities of a new future. That includes forgiveness of anyone who you think has a hand in the tough experience, including yourself. She shared an example of someone who is a victor. Her friend Rena lost her son at a very young age. She decided to transform her disaster into an opportunity that has created a free screening program for other parents to check for the kind of abnormalities that took Rena’s son to try to help save lives going forward. You can choose not to be a victim but to be a survivor and victor no matter what the situation is, whether it’s something as serious as losing a child or as (seemingly) small as being offended by someone. We have that power no matter what. Most Influential Person Richard Rohr, Author Effect on Emotions I will say very briefly that for much of my life because of childhood influences, I was plagued by anxiety and even depression and mindfulness has enabled me to realize that most of that came from distorted thinking. That was not anything relevant to the moment that in the moment I was just fine and all of that other talk, self talk was really not even true. I didn't have to pay attention to that and that really has, has helped me be much more content and I'm secure, emotionally. Thoughts on Breathing Breathing is so easy and in fact, when I give keynotes and workshops on the ComeBACK formula, this is one of the practices that I recommend because it's easy and it's nonthreatening. There are all kinds of different ways as you know, that are projected to do this and recommended, but if you just focus very simply on taking a deep breath in and holding it for just a second and then letting it out, it does calm us down. It's a physiological as well as mental and emotional intervention and it's totally self guided and possible. So breathing slowly and consciously and mindfully is a great, great practice. Suggested Resources Book: Everything Belongs: The Gift of Contemplative Prayer by Richard Rohr App: Focus@Will also Headspace Bullying Story I have been very fortunate in my life not to have been the subject of bullying to a great extent. I already mentioned that there was that manager who was probably the closest that I came to bullying. She was out of control. The more I think about this in this mindful moment, the more I think that really was bullying. She was bullying the entire team, our entire office and eventually to the degree that she got bounced out of her position. But not before she did a lot of damage. And that was before the fire. It was before I was able to learn these deeper lessons and I didn't really handle it well. There was a time that I remember I was kind of toe to toe yelling. I mean, we were yelling back and forth. It was that bad. Well, how can I not say I've never been bullied when I'd forgotten about this? Okay. So you brought it back and if I had been more mindful, certainly in she had been more mindful that never would've happened. You know, I think mindfulness also leads us to compassion because if we're mindful of not just what's going on in the here and now with us, but with others around us, we can see the situation more from their perspective even if we don't agree with that perspective. And certainly there was not a lot of that. So had I been more mindful in those days, I probably would have let a lot more of that slide. I would not have been so personally offended and, and defending myself, which really didn't do any good. We are all constantly faced with challenges in our lives, both big and small. We constantly talk about how to move past challenges, but rarely talk about how to build up the skills that allow us to be resilient in the first place. Why is resilience necessary, and how do we build it up? How can you bounce back from challenges? On this episode, speaker, author and resilience mentor, Sandra Younger joins us to talk about surviving a traumatic fire, how that built up her resilience, and how we can build ours up too. “We can--on our own, by our own choice-- build our resilience.” -Sandra Younger 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Be proud of committing time to your kids 07:22 - 07:56 A lot of women who decide to stay at home and raise their children feel like they won’t be able to make up the time that could have been spent focusing on a career. You’re not going to get those years back in your career, but you’re not going to get them back with your kids either. Resilience practice starts with gratitude 13:37 - 14:45 When you want to practice resilience, the very first step is to have gratitude. It is the antidote to all of our negative emotions, and it’s a big part of the healing process. It also keeps us from being stuck in resentment and a general life of misery. The ComeBACK Formula 17:13 - 20:41 Be patient with the process and the pain, and believe that you can come back from it. Accept help-- don’t think it’s weak to do so. Ask when you need it. Choose your story. We don’t always get to choose what happens to us, but we can choose our response. Keep moving, forgive, and lose attachment to how things need to be. Life is not easy, and we have to overcome a lot of difficult things. Resilience is something we were born with, and it gives us the ability to overcome challenges. We can open ourselves up to possibilities and opportunities on the other side of adversity or disaster, but there are steps we have to take. Practice gratitude, be patient, ask for help, choose the story you attach to an occurrence, and then keep moving forward by forgiving. We can practice all of this and build it like a muscle.

She has best-selling book about the disaster called “The Fire Outside My Window,” Sandra teaches a five-step resilience-building system she developed that empowers others to transform crisis into possibility and even loss into legacy. Speaker, author, trainer, survivor. After rebuilding my home and my life in the wake of the 2003 Cedar Fire, I noticed that while most people affected by the fire considered themselves "survivors" on their way to overcoming a devastating setback, some seemed to embrace the "victim" label that the media and so many others attached to us. Even more fascinating, it didn't seem to matter how much or how little they'd lost in the fire. In fact, some of those who'd lost the least seemed the most bitter, while those who'd lost loved ones seemed determined to move on with positivity. That's when I realized: We may not always get to choose what happens to us, but we can always choose our response. This made me wonder what else we might be able to do to speed and strengthen our recovery from adversity, which led me to discover a rich vein of empirical research documenting ways we can build our innate resilience like a muscle. I boiled these findings down to five powerful, common-sense resilience-building practices I call The ComeBACK Formula almost anyone can use to overcome almost any adversity. Questions You'll Hear Today What does a disaster survivor's experience have to do with me and my business challenges? Is resilience innate or acquired? What are the five steps, summarized in The ComeBACKFormula, proven to build our innate resilience like a muscle? What easy, commonsense practices can help me apply these principles to my life and business?
