One of my specialties is organizing. It's something I'm naturally good at, but also something I often promote because of the incredible benefits it can have on the brain. Having things neat and orderly is extremely important to me. My kids don't always love it though. I try to impress upon them the benefits of a clean room and a made up bed, but they just think I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I tried for years to get my oldest to make her bed each day and she'd always say, why, nobody is going to see it. I'd be so offended that she actually thought I wanted her to make her bed for OTHER people. I wanted her to make her bed for me, haha, but I was also hoping she'd experience the same sense of satisfaction I get when I walk by her room and see it all neat and tidy. It has everything to do with me, haha. I recognized early on in my life the positive affects a clean and organized space had on my brain so it's something that has always been a priority for me. There's nothing better than coming down to a clean kitchen first thing in the morning, or climbing into my neatly made up bed at night. I do it for my brain. I used to think it was just a personality thing. I know messes don't bother everyone, but I've come to learn that clutter and disorganization can have plenty of negative affects on all people, it's not just me. Some may not even realize the stress, overwhelm, and fatigue they often feel, could be directly related to chaos and clutter. It's not just a personality type thing, it's a human thing. Benefits of Being Organized Less stress Improved focus Increased productivity Saves time and money Last month we talked about creativity, and a few months back we talked about simplifying, and before that we talked about the All or Nothing Mentality. This month we are tying it all together with organization. Creativity needs focus, and your brain needs to be free of distractions in order to focus. Organization allows your brain to focus on what's necessary instead of being pulled in a million different directions. And working on your “all or nothing mentality” can allow you to make incremental progress over a long period of time.

HOW do you love yourself? This is a question I've been asking for years? I just can't seem to find that button I'd tell Sean. But I'm having this realization. My struggle to find that “self love button” all stems from CODEPENDENCY. A codependent person is someone lacking self worth and trust in themselves. They have fears of abandonment and an obsessive need for approval from others. Usually most magnified in their closest relationships. For me, that happens to be my relationship with Sean. Let me tell you a little story about my patterns in our relationship...

This time of year, although magical, can also be an extremely difficult time for many. For various reasons it can trigger unresolved childhood trauma, loneliness, and of course financial stress and overwhelm. So my intention for tonights call is to hold space for the loneliness, trauma, and stress, as we gently direct our focus towards healing, growth, and freedom from the past. About a month ago I broke out in this horrible rash. I was so discouraged because I'd like to believe that I'm pretty healthy and that I do what it takes to maintain optimal health. Many of us have seen tremendous results with our health and wellbeing thanks to the ER Shred protocol. But our diets can only take us so far. It can't cure our emotional wounds. It can be a stepping stone and create a HUGE breakthrough, but it's only a 3rd of the equation when we're talking about holistic health. As much as I teach that health is not just about what we eat, it's also about how well we're able to manage our minds and emotions, this piece to the puzzle just seemed to slip past my awareness when I broke out in a rash. My first response was to blame my diet, thinking, what am I doing wrong. What supplement do I need? What should I start eating or stop eating. I skipped right past the obvious, and my focus went directly to my diet instead of looking at my stress levels and emotional health. We must always be aware of the whole, body, mind, and soul. Sometimes we need a little nudge from the people who know us best. Thank you Sean for encouraging me to look deeper.

The amount of decisions we need to make each day has only continued to increase over the past couple centuries. Think of the amount of choices we are presented with each day. Instead of having to choose between 2 or 3 options, we now have hundreds of different options in every category imaginable. Food, entertainment, drinks, clothing, skincare, cars, phones, flavors, scents. I just walked through bath and body works the other day and wow, can you believe all the different SMELLS they offer? It's no wonder I'm always completely exhausted any time I have to go to the mall. Consumer culture is bogging us down and we don't even realize how much it is affecting our wellbeing. Many of us struggle to remedy this decision over load. But guess what, I think I can help guide you in the right direction.

ALL or NOTHING Mentality w/ Crystal Escobar

The ALL or NOTHING mentality is a cognitive distortion that results in depressions, anxiety, procrastination, binging, and completely sabotaging your progress. It's a black and white way of thinking, perfectionist syndrome, causing you to see reality in extremes. It's good or it's bad... Right or wrong... Success or complete failure... Where does this mentality stem from? I believe it's simply the natural evolution of the human experience. Just like new born babies are only able to see in black and white, but over time the begin to develop the ability to see shades of grey, and then even color. Historically speaking, we come from generations of black and white thinking. Religion and politics are great examples of how this mentality has perpetuated over centuries. Democrats and Republicans, heaven or hell, good vs. evil, true or false, worthy or unworthy. More often than not we find that one group believes they are right and everyone else is wrong. No disrespect intended towards religion or politics, I believe humanity has come a long way in this arena. The mentality has spilled over into a lot of parenting styles, then we wonder why we as adults struggle with this. Anyone come from a home where anything less than an A is unacceptable? Believing that punishment and shame will keep us from doing "bad things", using fear as a motivator... it may have worked in the short-term, but look at the long-term repercussions. Fear as a motivator is just not sustainable. It will never produce lasting results, it only keeps you stuck in unhealthy patterns.

Innocently many of us believe that our life circumstances are what make us feel good or bad, happy or sad, angry or peaceful. I used to believe that my happiness came from other people's love and appreciation for me, or when you make a lot of money, or when you reach your goal weight, are from being in a loving relationship. We grow up learning that happiness must come from within, but I never understood HOW to do that. Some things in life we perceive as GOOD and others we perceive as BAD. We live life, hoping, praying, and even begging for more "good" to come our way so that we can be happy. We fail to realize that what we classify as good and bad is all subjective. It's in our own minds. Everything in life starts out as NEUTRAL, but then our minds are what judge, label, and categorize things. It's our thoughts, beliefs, preferences, and opinions that separate them into the good and bad categories. When we clean up our minds, then is when we begin to take our power back. No longer are we at the affect of our circumstances, we are only at the effect of our beliefs about them. Finally I'm understanding what it means to find peace from within. It means working on our beliefs, not attempting to change what I can't control, but control what I CAN change... My BELIEFS. If you plan to join me tonight then be sure to print out this worksheet I put together. I'll explain on the call how to use it. http://www.wannabebalanced.com/.../Wannabe-Feel-Better...

Our theme this year is Discover YOU in 2022 and I believe the best way to self discovery is through our EMOTIONS. As we get to know our feelings and where they are coming from, we get to know ourselves. We are always saying things like… “I didn't like the vibe I got from that person… or… what a great vibe this place has… or… we just weren't vibing with one another. I never really knew there was some scientific validity to the whole VIBE term… Physicists tell us that inside every atom is mostly empty space and what's left is more like a vibrational frequency. Albert Einstein said, “Everything in life is vibration.” E+motion is Energy in motion. When it comes to our goals, whether it be health goals, relationship goals, business, lifestyle… the best way for us to approach these goals is to start with understanding our emotional state, or frequency we are vibrating at. Because that will determine whether or not we are in the right frequency to attract the things we want. This is what the law of attraction is all about. Many of you have mentioned that since doing ER Shred you feel super human, like you're floating, and some of you even say you are vibrating at a higher frequency which I just love to hear! Tonight I also have Susan Rothman, our Head of the Board member and Holistic Health practitioner. She's going to chime in a little later after I share my quick little master class on raising your vibration.

She started exploring her quest for balance in 2010 and now she helps other moms find purpose and balance. She now juggles her blog, podcast, business, and four kids, sharing her journey along the way. Episode Summary: This is Part 3 of our Results NOT Resolutions series. Today, I am joined by Crystal Escobar an author and entrepreneur who says, "we cannot live our life based on shoulds." Today's focus is on the space pillar which is all about setting up your life to support you. We talk about achieving balance and when to let things go. We talk about how it is okay to ask for help and how creating a list with 30-minute intervals can help get things done and about why it’s critical to let things go and not worry about the expectations of others. CLIFF NOTES Don't live your life based on “shoulds” and trying to manage the expectations of others. Harmony can be an upgrade to balance. It's okay to have your own goals and aspirations and try to achieve balance in your life. Sometimes you have to let expectations go and accept that having kids means that sometimes your house will be messy and unorganized. Be organized and set up your workspace, so that you can focus on what you're doing and not be distracted by clutter around you. Multitasking and trying to do more than one project at a time will actually cost you time in the long run. To be productive, create a 30-minute list. List things you need to get done and use a timer to work on each item. It’s okay to set time aside for yourself and your work and get help or outsource some of the household stuff. Quotes from the show: “Include your kids in what you're working on so they understand what's possible.” - Crystal Escobar“Balance to me is more about a state of mind. It's not about all the things I can get done in one day.” - Crystal Escobar“When you're trying to be creative you have to clear the clutter.” - Crystal Escobar“We're not as effective as we think we are when we're doing two or more things at once.” - Crystal EscobarUse a timer when you're organizing and then tell yourself "It's time to move on." - Crystal Escobar“Become okay with B- work in certain areas.” - Patrice Washington“When your space is in order it teaches others how to treat you.” - Patrice Washington“Maybe you can't have a balanced day, but you can plan for a balanced week.” - Crystal Escobar“Get rid of the "shoulds" in your life. Don't beat yourself up about what you think you should be doing.” - Crystal Escobar“We have to let go of the expectations we believe others may have of us, because we're only frustrating ourselves.” - Patrice Washington Crystal’s Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions Define Success: Being connected to your intuition and following what your intuition is telling you to do. In the season finale and final episode for 2018, Sunit interviews Crystal Escobar of the Wanna Be Balanced podcast and brand. Crystal shares how she and her husband became millionaires at the age of 27, retired by age 35, and now live a life with complete time freedom. Crystal gets really raw and deep about her path going from being a devout mormon to a spiritual seeker. They talk about her new book that is coming out in 2019, how she feels about the people who have turned on her for speaking her truth, and some of the biggest resources she has turned to, to help her on this journey. She also shares the "secrets" to her success online, which of course, really aren't secrets at all. We all know it takes hard work, longevity, and consistency to make anything a success. Crystal also shares her emotional journey through motherhood, wanting more children, and getting a tubal ligation reversal at one point, because she was so conflicted about what she really wanted. You do not have to be mormon, or even religious, to resonate with this episode. Crystal's story is one that every woman can relate to. Growing up being told how to think, feeling like you need to push your feelings down, having big dreams but not being able to dream them, not being sure you have what it takes to create financial freedom for yourself, feeling conflicted about motherhood...they talk about it ALL. Crystal took a little break from instagram at the time this episode was recorded, but she is back! Go follow her:   https://www.instagram.com/wannabebalanced/

This week I chatted with an amazing mother of 4, a wife, a blogger, an author and a fellow podcaster who is hosting a live event in Utah on June 23rd. Her name is Crystal Escobar. I loved talking with her, because she was totally open and willing to share with us her struggles and insecurities and how she overcame her fear of talking in front of people and doing live videos. You can now find her on YouTube and doing Facebook and Insta stories and even hosting a live event. She talks about how she has learned to deal with haters and keep on being awesome everyday. Her advice to anyone out there who wants to try something new is to pick one thing and get really good at it, then move on to the next thing. She's learning to balance all the many facets and roles in her life and teaching others to do the same. You can find her blog and more information about her live event at www.wannabebalanced.com. You can purchase tickets to the Wannabe Balanced Event through her website and don't forget to use the code: monica10 to get a 10% discount off of your tickets. If you haven't heard me say this before, it's quite a challenge for me to figure out how to NAME each podcast interview. We talk for nearly a full hour, about the span of their ENTIRE life thus far, and I have to pick one little part out of it that is a big ATTENTION GRABBING or unique, even though we may only touch on that part for a bit of the conversation.  Yes, it's true, she lived in a tent for a time as a child, and on a macadamia nut farm in Hawaii, how fascinating is that??? She shares about her blended family, her parents divorce, and her teenage years where she caused her mom maybe a little grief.  She then shares about her business with her husband and how they made their first million before age 30. But of course the majority of our chat was about parenting. The utter heart wrenching decision as to when to STOP having kids, one I can completely relate to, and how she isn't sure if she is "done" yet.  She speaks about co-sleeping, getting her tubes tied, relying on inspiration, and blaming herself for a birth defect of one of her kids.  I also LOVED the advice she gave wrapped around her favorite books.   I hope you will join me over on Instagram and share your favorite part, Crystal will be there reading along as well, it's always fun to hear what sticks out to others from the convo, give her some LOVE! As I've said before, that's the best way you can say "thank you" to myself and those I interview, is by just showing up over on social media to share you listened, so that others will want to come hear what it's all about! My instagram is: @capturingjoy.kristenduke where we will be chatting about this on the day it comes out! Search the #BeyondGoodIntentionsPodcast hashtag on instagram to find all of the episodes if you listen later.  I also wouldn't be SAD if you left a review on ITunes, it really helps this little podcast succeed.  I hope you were able to take some tidbits from my chat with Crystal and implement them into your life, and take your parenting Beyond just Good Intentions.  Wannabe Balanced Event Sat. June 23rd in Sandy, Utah If you are new to the Beyond Good Intentions parenting podcast, I encourage you to scroll through the titles and summaries of the other episode interviews, so many great conversations on parenting.
