Send us Fan MailWe continue our discussion of the Roman Catholic Church's various doctrines that are not found in the New Testament. We begin by discussing Extreme Unction which is anointing a person who is about to die. We next discuss the use of instrumental music which was added in 666AD. We note 15 Catholic doctrines and when they were established. We close out this study by noting that the Catholic Church began after the first century as a result of the apostacy the apostles said would occur, and its organizational structure is foreign to the New Testament pattern. Consequently, it cannot be the Church Jesus built. We move on to the next denomination on our list, which is the Lutheran church. We note when it dates from and why this can be said. We talk about why what Martin Luther did is so important to understand. As a result of his studies, he came to the conclusion that the Catholic Church had many errors in what it did. Consequently, he nailed 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany in 1517. We close out this episode by mentioning his greatest objections to what the Catholic Church was doing. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.

Opponent Of Ennis Data Centre Claims Developer Is "Purchasing Indulgences To Wipe Away Sins"

One of the main opponents of a proposed data centre on the outskirts of Ennis has accused its backer of the equivalent of "purchasing indulgences to wipe away sins". The High Court has dismissed the leave to appeal application by objectors to the controversial development, thus clearing the way for the project. Outling his decision, Mr Justice Richard Humphreys said it was "inherently implausible" to condemn the plans as non-climate consistent when the developer has pledged to purchase renewable energy to offset the energy used by the project. Ennis-based physicist Colin Doyle doesn't believe the environment is being prioritised.

Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Get your Hosea Scripture Journal now. What happens when spiritual leaders stop looking different? Listen to our text today, Hosea 4:9-11: And it shall be like people, like priest; I will punish them for their ways and repay them for their deeds. They shall eat, but not be satisfied; they shall play the whore, but not multiply, because they have forsaken the Lord to cherish whoredom, wine, and new wine, which take away the understanding. — Hosea 4:9-11 The priests were meant to be set apart. They were called to teach truth, guard God's Word, and lead people back to him. Instead, they blended into the culture around them. They began to look, sound, and live like everyone else—and the people followed. Because when spiritual leaders stop leading, the culture consumes them. We see this same thing happening right now. Pastors who look more like executives than shepherds. Churches shaped more by strategy than Scripture. Messages that reflect cultural crazes more than biblical truth. Over time, the edge softens, conviction fades, and truth grows silent. And eventually, there is no meaningful difference between the church and the world around it. Thus God says: "Like people, like priest." God will not ignore this. He says he will punish and repay the spiritual leaders for their negligence. Leadership matters in God's church, but so does followership. Both are accountable for what they become. Then God describes the outcome of poor leadership and followership. Busyness without fulfillment — "They shall eat, but not be satisfied…" Indulgences without fruit — "They shall play the whore, but not multiply…" And why? "Because they have forsaken the LORD…" When God is replaced—even subtly—everything begins to hollow out. What takes his place promises satisfaction but never delivers. Instead, it slowly erodes spiritual clarity. It.. "…takes away the understanding." That is the cost. Poor spiritual leadership leads to the blurring of truth and the fading of discernment, and thus, people are lost. But this is not just for pastors. It is about you. Are you following leaders anchored in God—or leaders who merely reflect the culture around them? DO THIS: Evaluate one voice you regularly follow and ask whether it is shaping you toward God or toward culture. ASK THIS: Where do you see spiritual leaders blending into culture today? How has leadership shaped your beliefs and decisions? Are you pursuing truth or simply what feels comfortable? PRAY THIS: Father, give me discernment to recognize truth and courage to follow it. Keep me from drifting with the culture. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Christ Is Enough"

“How is the Mass Christ’s sacrifice?” This question leads to a discussion on how Catholics view the Mass as the re-presentation of Christ’s single sacrifice, despite the experience of imperfection after attending. Other topics include the validity of saying “My Lord and My God” during consecration, and how to address challenges to the authenticity of Scripture. Join the Catholic Answers Live Club Newsletter Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! Visit Catholicanswersspeakers.com Questions Covered: 05:35 – Catholics believe that the Mass is the re-presentation of the single sacrifice of Christ, which Hebrews 10:14 says makes us perfect. But Catholics attend Mass and leave not perfected. Therefore, the Mass must not be the single sacrifice of Christ. 16:02 – A couple weeks ago I heard someone on CA say that you shouldn't say “My Lord and My God” at the consecration. But my priest told me there is actually a partial indulgence for doing this. What's true? 23:52 – How do you navigate the constant bombardment of people who deny the authenticity of scripture? 33:52 – Was Jesus always there from the beginning with God? 43:46 – The Hail Mary and the Hail Holy Queen seem like idolatry to me. 50:20 – What do Catholics believe about predestination? Is every event meant to be?

Today’s Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Gospel – Luke 24:35-48 – The disciples of Jesus recounted what had taken place along the way, and how they had come to recognize Him in the breaking of bread. While they were still speaking about this, He stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at My Hands and My Feet, that it is I myself. Touch Me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” And as he said this, He showed them His Hands and His Feet. While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, He asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave Him a piece of baked fish; He took it and ate it in front of them. He said to them, “These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about Me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.” Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And He said to them, “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in His Name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.” Bishop Sheen quote of the day Terry explains Church Teaching on Indulgences regarding this Jubilee Year

On this Easter episode, we discuss Divine Mercy Sunday and the plenary indulgence that many Catholics pursue every year. We explain what a plenary indulgence actually does — and what it does not do — including common misunderstandings about complete forgiveness of temporal punishment, attachment to sin, and purgatory. Then we share why the traditional meaning of New Sunday (the Second Sunday of Easter in the Chaldean tradition) — the renewal of the human race through Christ's Resurrection — should remain central to Chaldean & Assyrian Catholics and not be prioritized over other "popular" devotions. The conversation covers: • Why devotions are like “dessert” while the Mass, Gospels, and sacraments are the “protein” of our spiritual life • How replacing authentic tradition with newer practices affects organic development in the Church • The real purpose of indulgences: purification rooted in love rather than settling a debt with God • Shifting from “how much can I get away with?” to building a genuine relationship with God • The actual conditions for a plenary indulgence on Divine Mercy Sunday and why total detachment from sin is essential Featuring: Fr. We connect First Fridays/Saturdays, rosaries, Scripture, adoration, and pilgrim practices to one aim: better spiritual health, i.e., a stronger, freer relationship of trusting love with God.Key IdeasIndulgence = relational help, not a magic pass: you “tap” the Church's treasury of merit (the saints' lived friendship with God) through concrete practices.Always personal: you still act (prayer, Scripture, adoration, works of mercy); grace perfects, doesn't replace, effort.Apply to self or the dead: love shares its credit—our bonds in Christ extend beyond death.Keep the frame human: think “street cred” or a trainer's plan—habits that restore and strengthen relationship, not accounting tricks.Sin harms relationships; practices heal: less “temporal punishment” math, more repair, trust, and re-ordering of love.Helpful ParallelsTrainer plan → spiritual plan:30 min Scripture reading (indulgenced)Rosary in common30 min Eucharistic adorationStations of the CrossPilgrimage/holy door (in jubilee years)Works of mercy + usual conditions (state of grace, confession, Eucharist, prayer for the Pope's intentions)Scripture touchpoints“Whatever you bind on earth…” (Mt 16:19; 18:18)“The communion of saints” (cf. Heb 12:1; Eph 2:19)Reconciliation and restoration (Jn 20:21–23; 2 Cor 5:18–20)One-week Spiritual Health Tune-up (simple, doable)Pick one indulgenced practice above and do it twice.Go to confession (once).Add one concrete act of mercy (call, visit, forgive, give).Close each day with a 2-minute examen (gratitude → review → ask help for tomorrow).CTAIf this clarified indulgences, share the episode and leave a written review—helps others find us.TagsFather and Joe, Joe Rockey, Father Boniface Hicks, indulgence, treasury of merit, communion of saints, First Friday, First Saturday, adoration, rosary, Scripture, pilgrimage, spiritual health, confession, temporal punishment, works of mercy, Catholic podcast, practical spirituality, relationship with God

Indulgences are understood poorly today, and many anti-Catholic polemicists falsely hold them up as licenses to sin the future or that absolution is contingent on paying the right amount of money. However, an indulgence is not the forgiveness of sin; it is rather the expiation of temporal punishment due to sin. The Church's teaching on indulgences is entirely Biblical. Yet it was Martin Luther in the 16th century who, after years of upholding the Catholic position, opted to take his his own private spiritual struggles and elevate them to the level of new doctrines that ultimately rejected indulgences and indeed the teaching that any work can assist in our salvation.

A Season of Mercy: Humble Prayer and the Gift of Indulgences Today's Homily reflects on what it means to pray in a way that God truly hears us. The readings remind us that God has no favorites, yet He shows special attention to the poor and humble because all human beings are, at our core, spiritually poor and in need of mercy. Jesus' parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector reveal the danger of self-righteousness: when we come before God convinced of our own goodness, we close ourselves off from grace. True prayer begins with humility, honesty, and recognition of our need for God's mercy . . . like the tax collector who simply prayed, “Have mercy on me, a sinner.” Have Mercy On Me The Homily then connects this lesson to the Church's November focus on praying for the dead. Sin not only offends God but causes harm that must be repaired . . . either in this life through penance or in purgatory. The Church, in her mercy, offers special indulgences in the first eight days of November to help souls in purgatory, especially through cemetery visits, prayer, sacramental confession, and Communion. The Shrine's annual Novena for the Faithful Departed is also highlighted as a powerful opportunity to assist loved ones. Ultimately, the message urges humility, repentance, and charitable prayer for the deceased, trusting in God's abundant mercy. ---------------------------------------------------------- Art Work All Souls Day: French Painter: Jules Bastien-Lepage: 1882 ---------------------------------------------------------- The Homily references a handout explaining plenary indulgences.
