NDSU Offensive Coordinator Dan Larson joins BMZ in studio to discuss Bison singing day aquisitions and reflect on Zabel and Sundell's journey from playing for the Bison to playing in the super bowl with the Seahawks
Headlines and DAN LARSON (NDSU OC & Former O Line Coach) The Seahawks offensive line has improved greatly and two big factors in that improvement are NDSU alums Grey Zabel and Jalen Sundell, so we turned to their college coach to get some insight into these two key players. Coach gives us some insight into how Sundell and Zabel got here and the versatility of these two players. Have Coach and his fellow Bison become Seahawks fans? When did he know that Grey had what it took to become an NFL lineman? Has he talked to either of them since they clinched a spot in the Super Bowl? How mind blowing is it for Coach to think about watching two of his guys playing side-by-side in the Super Bowl? :30- A Series of Unfortunate Super Bowl Conversations… There's one big difference between this year's Seahawks team and the teams that went to back-to-back Super Bowls just over a decade ago… This team is VERY likeable, even by non-Seahawks fans, those teams? Not so much. :45- Bill Belichick being left out of the hall of fame this year still has a lot of people talking. Is it voter bias or a problem with the process?
Happy Thursday! Only 10 more sleeps til Super Bowl!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today we look at Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Directed by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, it's often described as the best Batman movie of all time and is definitely Sophia's favorite which is why we did back to back movie episodes. Listen as we dive deep into the underpinnings of what makes Bruce Wayne tick and why Hart Bochner plays such a great coke-head. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, Trent is left alone in the Toy Power Studio whilst Ben and Scot are in Melbourne for the wedding of Fresh and Jessie (Congrats!), and Frank is off to the airport to welcome back Ali from London and Paris (yes, he survived 2 weeks of solo parenting). And just when it was time to bust out the Soapbox monologues, Colin comes to the rescue. Its all things Kickstarter including the incredible upcoming books titled G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero Field Guides by 3DJOES, and the arrival of the Creature Commando's wave 1 (4 figures - large animal warriors inspired by Battle Beasts) and then its over to another instalment of the Vintage Toy line Retrospective as we delve into a long running construction toy originally created by Milton Bradley - 1984's Robotix. Its the modular, motorized robot construction toy that was ahead of its time, which got 15 six minute long episodes (with a plot twist no-one saw coming) and a single issue comic book! Dan Larson refers to it as an "oddity", and a toy that was too nerdy and educational for the cool kids! A couple of other bits and bobs in here too, a new Lego certified store opening in SA, as well as some tariff analysis and Colin's take on how Canadian's feel about becoming the 51st US state. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/3djoes/3djoes-field-guidesSupport the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

North Dakota State has had an offensive lineman selected in the NFL Draft each of the three years and potentially could have a fourth in a couple of weeks. That level of talent means that is extra attention that comes to that position group and its coach, Dan Larson. The Bison offensive line has some decisions to make over the coming months with three starters graduating, left tackle Jalen Sundell, right guard Jake Kubas and center Brandon Westberg. The Bison received some welcome news in late December when senior Grey Zabel announced he was going to return to NDSU and turn down significant NIL money to transfer. Zabel started the final ten games of 2023 at right tackle. He will be joined by Ada's Mason Miller, who also is a fifth-year senior that has started 26 career games. That experience will be huge for a group that beyond those two players has two career starts, each belonging to sixth-year player Jake Rock. Rock and fellow sixth-year lineman Hunter Poncius are in the mix to fill those open spots, according to Larson. Larson also has his eyes on some young players that could make an immediate impact. Redshirt freshmen Beau Johnson, Jack Liwienski and Griffin Empey all have earned rave reviews during spring football. Bison Media Zone airs each Wednesday at 10:30 on WDAY Xtra.

Dan Larson is the Vice President here at Wealthquest. He is an accountant. Prior to Wealthquest, he was a tax manager. He is the perfect person to talk about taxes, as we dive into five major tax opportunities that are often missed. We talk about data gathering and ways to get a jump start on the following year's taxes. He also shares a technique to avoid tax surprises and the dread associated with tax time. Dan talks about digital and paper hybrid record keeping, coordinating information with different advisors, and more. Episode Highlights: [03:56] A healthy way to think about taxes is to start preparing for the next year after you file. [04:21] Data gathering is a big headache. It can be made a lot easier if you have an organized system throughout the year. [05:21] A mid-year check-in can also be a great way to run a tax projection. Avoiding surprises is very helpful. [06:28] Statements are hybrid with digital and paper. It's important to have those records and keep copies for seven years. [09:00] Dan walks us through issues that can happen when working with an investment manager and a tax professional. At Wealthquest, we coordinate everything in house, so the client doesn't have to worry about communication between professionals. [13:05] The model of having all of the separate professionals under one roof and coordinating together is becoming more common. [14:16] Dan talks about how having wealth management and tax advice in-house is an advantage. [17:17] Coordinating financial planning and taxes is an advantage when it comes to building out financial expectations for life. Having a financial plan puts things in place well ahead of tax time. [20:08] A big part of estate planning is avoiding estate tax. Having coordinated advisors can help with legacy goals, charitable giving, and gifts to children. [22:32] Tax preparation is when you do your yearly taxes. Preparation is when you plan for your taxes in advance. Technical expertise is required to navigate the tax codes in both areas. [26:14] Dan shares his thoughts on TurboTax. [28:39] Missed tax planning opportunities include not planning at all and deferring taxes as long as possible. [30:37] Proactively managing gains and losses can also get missed. [31:44] Dan shares an example of efficient tax planning and portfolio rebalancing from a client perspective. Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.
