The last year has seen the U.S. labor market enter a challenging position. Layoffs at major companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Verizon have put more people out of work while costs of living are rising. The fashion industry wasn't spared. Saks Global is laying off 16% of its workforce, and other major fashion brands, like H&M and Nike, have made staff cuts. For people just entering the fashion industry, it's a daunting proposition. On this week's Glossy Podcast, senior fashion reporter Danny Parisi spoke with Keith Fraley, a professor of fashion business management, about the challenges facing new graduates and others seeking entry-level roles in the fashion industry. One of the biggest changes Fraley has seen is that the training period for new employees is much shorter than it used to be. "The businesses are expecting immediate contribution from their new hires," Fraley said. "And before you can contribute, you need to show that you know what the job entails, that you understand how the business makes money, because they want to see people making an impact in their role relatively quickly after they're hired." Fraley has seen far more students who are interested in the creative side of the business, including design and product development, taking more business-oriented classes. That reflects a shift in the labor market, where more applicants are competing for fewer openings and need more ways to demonstrate their value and versatility. One of the most pressing concerns in fashion employment is AI. A recent Vogue Busines survey of 300 current and aspiring fashion workers found that only 32% of students feel positive about the role that AI will play in their careers. Most believe that AI will further reduce the number of available jobs. Fraley was more optimistic, while acknowledging the concern. "Repetitive tasks, basic analysis might be automated," Fraley said. "But that will just increase demand for strategic thinking and creative interpretation. I don't think AI will replace many fashion roles, but it will certainly reshape them."
“I found this perfect Porsche Cayenne diesel, white with red interior, low miles, great service history. I hit the lady up, we agreed on a price, everything was lining up… and then it all fell apart. She sold it to some random guy for a thousand dollars more. I was pissed. I was fighting it. But then this little Mercedes GLA shows up at work - cash, fixed it myself, gets way better gas mileage, and it's literally everything I wanted, just packaged differently. It doesn't always show up as you expect. I asked, you provided. God was like, ‘No dude, I got you, this is actually better.'” - TimTim Fraley - mechanic, musician, truth seeker, etcTim returns! Countdown to Pittsburgh and a live mock tonight Two days before the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, the Detroit Lions Podcast zeroed in on pick 17 and the moving board around it. The top of the draft is unsettled. Nobody can lock in picks two through five. That uncertainty bleeds straight into Detroit's lane. The crew set a live mock draft for tonight at 8:00 with Jeff Risdon, Chris, and Scott Bischoff running the room. It is a final stress test for scenarios the Lions could face when the NFL clock hits 17. Two SEC tackles lead the Lions' options Mock drafts clustering around Detroit point to two clear front-runners: Monroe Fraley and Colon Proctor. Both are SEC offensive tackles. Both bring first-round traits with very different profiles. The conversation centered on balancing their pluses and minuses against Detroit's current line and future contracts. If either is there at 17, the pick feels clean. If both are gone, the board gets messy. Predicting availability is the trick. With the top 10 fluid and several tackle-needy teams ahead of Detroit, the range for Fraley and Proctor stretches. The Lions are preparing for one to go early, one to drift, or a late surprise that knocks a different premium player into range. Injury variables that could shake the board Health flags dominated the swing-player talk. Jermad McCoy's knee has drawn “degenerative” chatter. Production included only one strong season at Tennessee. That mix could push him into the second round. If he slips to 50, the value becomes a debate, but chronic soft-tissue and long-term knee concerns temper enthusiasm. Francis Malinois surfaced as the other big wild card. He has a back issue described as similar to what Sam LaPorta is managing. Not a herniated disc. Potentially addressable with a minor procedure and roughly three months of rehab. Teams are weighing whether surgery is even required. That uncertainty could nudge him out of the top 10 to 12. Clubs like Arizona, Cleveland, and Kansas City were cited as spots where medical risk tolerance could change plans. Kansas City in particular may be hesitant after drafting an injured tackle last year. Reading the final mocks Final boards from major analysts are landing now and shaping consensus on Detroit. Proctor shows up as one of the most frequent Lions pairings at 17. The podcast plans to comb through recent years of last-minute mocks on Thursday morning to see who historically pegged Detroit's moves and where groupthink missed. With volatility up high, the Lions' best edge at 17 is preparedness for medical-driven slides and a clear stack between the two SEC tackles leading their lane. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #2026nfldraft #monroefreeling #mockdrafts #fanpicks #kadynproctor #blakemiller #jermodmccoy Learn more about your ad choices. One Week Out, the Mock Is On Seven days before the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, the Detroit Lions Podcast fired up a full seven-round mock. The simulator ran on the consensus board at normal speed. Every trade offer was rejected to keep the exercise clean, even though the host admitted he would take several of them in real life. Tennessee, Buffalo, and Philadelphia dangled packages with future second-round picks. Tempting, but declined. The board fell largely as expected into the teens. The goal was simple. Track how the Detroit Lions might act when real choices appear. Concrete roster needs. Scheme fits. Red flags. All in play. Round 1: OT Over CB Temptations The Lions sifted through a cluster that included Raymond McCoy, Dylan Spielman, Keldrick Falk, Caden Proctor, Akeem Mezzadore, and Caleb Lomu. McCoy brought one season of pristine outside-corner tape at Tennessee, but the knee history and whispers about a degenerative issue cooled enthusiasm. The Lions already live with that kind of concern at safety with Kirby Joseph. Pass. Edge was surveyed for a complement to Aidan Hutchinson. A prototype was on the board, but Mezzadore did not fit that vision. Avion Terrell offered coverage polish yet carried a lighter frame than ideal. Caleb Lomu drew praise for movement skills and zone-friendly run blocking, but the sense was Detroit would not value him as highly. Caden Proctor held appeal, just not as the apple of their eye. The pick landed where positional value and board scarcity intersected. Blake Miller, offensive tackle. Take the pillar now, develop the ceiling with Fraley, and avoid forcing an offensive need later when the board thins. After 17: Runs, Snipes, and Offers Once Miller was in, chips fell fast. McCoy came off the board. Proctor went to Houston. Gabe Vaki vanished. Then the sting. TJ Parker, a player with real Lions interest, disappeared just before 50. More trade calls arrived in the 50s with swaps that included moving down for extra Day 2 capital. Again, declined for the sake of the exercise. Round 2 Watch: Corner Takes the Lead The Lions scanned offense and saw little they liked. Eli Stowers at tight end did not move the needle, especially with contested-catch concerns. A running back like Jadarian Price was not in play. Defense answered. Chris Johnson, an outside corner, fit cleanly and immediately jumped to the top of the conversation. Malachi Lawrence offered intrigue. Kayla Banks carried a foot injury that complicated the calculus. The takeaway was clear. By grabbing an offensive tackle early, Detroit preserved flexibility while the second-round board tilted defense. Cornerback rose to the front, with outside traits that align with how the Lions want to play on the perimeter. Health flags matter. Scheme fit matters more. One week out, this mock framed both with clarity. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #nfl #blakemiller #chrisjohnson #mockdraft Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Tackle Takes the Lead at 17 The Detroit Lions Podcast zeroed in on the NFL Draft board. Episode 607 asked the question that matters: what should the Detroit Lions do at 17? The table leaned offensive tackle. A fresh sweep of recent mocks all pointed to a tackle at that spot. Names floated included Procter, Manu, Holmes, Fraley, and Venga. The reasoning was simple. At 17, need meets value. If the Lions stick at that pick, a tackle fits the board and the workload in front of them. The draft room math favors it. Edge Help and the 50 Pick Edge at 17 did not land the same conviction. The group questioned whether an edge would be worth that selection. The hope is that a pass rusher slides to 50. If not, trade flexibility stays on the table. Up for a target. Back for a pocket of value. The expectation laid out was clear: across picks 17 and 50, come away with an offensive tackle and a pass rusher. There was also talk that the front office is weighing defensive end as strongly as tackle. Either way, the path was set. Protect the quarterback. Hit the quarterback. Do both by the end of Day 2. Tight End Talk and a Big-Board Curveball First-round tight end? No. That was the blunt answer. The crew would be stunned if the Detroit Lions opened with a tight end. A twist came from the show's consensus big board. The 17th-ranked player there is a tight end. But that is a ranking, not a Lions projection. The board explains talent tiers. It does not predict Detroit's card. The Podcast kept circling back to need and value. In this NFL, tackle at 17 tracks with both. Roster Notes, Anzalone Chatter, and What's Next There was a sidebar on Alex Anzalone's recent comments. He discussed returning, with the head coach wanting that outcome, while ownership and the front office reportedly felt otherwise. Quarterback talk surfaced too. A first-round quarterback did not feel imminent. That room is heavy, and health for the young pieces matters before any verdicts. Late in the segment, a pair of names came up as unlikely options at 17, with the belief that one of them might be gone anyway. The show closed with a programming note. A bigger draft roundtable is planned for early next week, with a full mock on deck. The Detroit Lions Podcast will line up the scenarios and run them, pick by pick. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #nfldraft #offensivetackle #passrusher #pick17 #pick50 #tightendfirstround #alexanzalone #dancampbell #mockdraftroundtable #consensusbigboard #mattmiller #procter #manu #venga Learn more about your ad choices. Right Tackle Becomes the Mock Draft Bulls‑Eye The Detroit Lions keep showing up at No. 17 with an offensive tackle in new mock drafts. The trend is specific now. Right tackle is the target. In a sample of more than 20 mocks, two names dominate over half the projections: Monroe Fraley of Georgia and Blake Miller of Thompson. The NFL board is shifting, and the Detroit Lions Podcast zeroed in on why. The calculus starts with Detroit's line configuration. The Lions appear open to moving Penei Sewell to left tackle. That elevates right tackle to a priority. The board dynamics matter too. Colon Proctor is rising. He even appeared in a few mocks to Detroit at 17, but the expectation here is a top‑10 landing because size and movement like that rarely linger. Monroe Fraley: High-Ceiling Athlete, Light on Reps Fraley plays left tackle. He moves well. He flashes the traits teams covet in the middle of Round 1. But inexperience shows up. The tape has technique drift. The footwork gets loose. There is some leaning. The start count tells the story. Sixteen starts leaves a gap to bridge at NFL speed. That is the push and pull with Fraley in the 10-to-20 range. If he lands in Detroit, the upside is obvious. The concern is the learning curve. Daily work against Aidan Hutchinson would speed development, but that is a two-edged sword. There is a real example of how constant domination in practice can dent a young player's confidence. Cam Wimbley splashed as a rookie, then ran into Joe Thomas and hit a wall. That caution applies broadly. Jeff Okuda felt some of that pressure in Detroit practices too. Fraley can improve, and his athletic profile suggests he will, but the on-ramp needs managing. Blake Miller: Experienced Power, Plug-and-Play Path Miller is a right tackle by trade. He is athletic, though not as fluid as Fraley in space. He wins more with power. The experience stands out: 47 starts. The growth from 2024 to 2025 jumps off the film. He sealed the outside more consistently. He found and finished targets at the second level instead of just arriving late. That matters on Sundays. Because the Lions may slide Sewell to the left side, Miller's profile fits the immediate need. He can line up at right tackle and start. The floor feels higher, the timeline cleaner. Fraley could be gone before 17. He could also be there. Miller offers a steadier answer if the board breaks that way. Either would address the Detroit Lions' top offensive priority. The question at 17 is simple: chase Fraley's ceiling or bank Miller's readiness while the NFL board churns around Colon Proctor's rise. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #monroefraley #blakemiller #righttackle #lefttackle #detroitlionspick17 #nflmockdrafts #colonproctor #top10projection #peneisewell #aidanhutchinsonpractice #secondlevelblocking #sealingtheedge #footworkandtechnique #experiencegap16vs47starts #jeffokuda Learn more about your ad choices. This episode features Miranda Fraley Rhodes, Ph.D., assistant chief curator at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville. Miranda discusses how the museum's exhibitions and interpretive programming help Tennesseans connect with their shared history through inclusive storytelling and compelling artifacts. The conversation highlights the museum's new exhibition, "Tennessee Voices, American Stories," created as part of the statewide America 250 commemoration. The exhibit features three areas centered on key concepts from the preamble to the United States Constitution: “We the People,” “A More Perfect Union,” and “The Blessings of Liberty.” Each area includes artifacts and stories related to remarkable people who helped to build Tennessee and the United States. Spanning from the 18th century to the present, the exhibition brings together early statehood items and cultural artifacts tied to music, civil rights, public service and more, showing how both prominent figures and everyday people contribute to the ongoing American story. Rhodes gives listeners a richer appreciation for how museums use objects, research and storytelling to make history tangible, memorable, and meaningful for visitors of all ages. Coaching Staff Set: Titles, Roles, Continuity The Detroit Lions locked in their coaching staff on Monday, and the announcement landed with steadiness, not shock. Dan Campbell remains at the top. Drew Pessing is confirmed as offensive coordinator. Scotty Montgomery holds the associate head coach title. Safeties coach Jim O'Neil adds the assistant head coach role. Continuity is the headline. Caleb Collins is listed as a defensive assistant. Fraley is back as a running coordinator. Bruce Gradkowski, a former NFL quarterback, moves into the assistant wide receivers coach spot after a year as an offensive assistant. The Lions like his trajectory. Other teams do too. That momentum matters. One familiar name returns in a fresh lane. Dan Skipper is now an offensive assistant. The role is nonspecific by design. Expect Skipper to live in the film room, move between position groups, and serve as a trusted bridge between players and coaches. He just retired. He knows the locker room. That can pay off on long practice weeks. Defense: Why They're Running It Back The defensive staff remains intact aside from O'Neil's added title. That decision stirred reaction after uneven results. The context matters. Before the bye, with a healthy secondary, Detroit ranked as a top-eight defense in scoring and yards per game. The plan worked when the pieces were available. Then injuries hit. Results slid. Late in the year, Kelvin Sheppard mixed things up. Fronts changed. Coverage rules shifted. Blitz patterns evolved. The staff adjusted to the talent on hand and found gains in the final two games. That flexibility is part of why they are running it back. The defensive line is the pressure point. Kacy Rogers returns after a difficult first season. There were late signs of progress. Work with Tyleik Williams and Roy Lopez began to show. More technique wins. Better finish on plays. Year two needs to convert flashes into production. New and Notable: Passing Game and Specialist Roles David Shaw stays on as passing game specialist after previously serving as passing game coordinator. He arrived with John Morton, who is back in Denver at his old job. The shift from coordinator to specialist narrows his scope and clarifies lanes around the passing game build. Indianapolis Notes and Draft Buzz The Detroit Lions Podcast checked in from Indianapolis on a frigid morning with early draft rumors floating in the air. Most of the NFL arrives today. Brad and Dan are scheduled to speak this afternoon, with Pessing also set to meet with the media on Tuesday. Those sessions will shape how the finalized staff plans to deploy scheme tweaks, personnel development, and the next wave of additions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-v7HazlUBgM #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #detroitlionscoachingstaff #indianapolisdraftbuzz #2026nfldraft #lionscoaches #kelvinsheppard Learn more about your ad choices. Pre-Combine Focus on Pick 17 Jeff Risdon set the stage on the Detroit Lions Podcast with a clear mission. It is Friday, February 20, and the NFL Combine is next. He heads to Indianapolis early tomorrow. The focus is pick number 17 for the Detroit Lions. Interest around that slot is intense after Daniel Jeremiah's press conference. Based on current projections, five names stand out heading into the week. The board can change after testing and interviews. For now, these are the most likely targets. Keldrick Falk fits the Lions' blueprint Auburn edge Keldrick Falk leads the defensive options. He plays with power to speed and a crush-the-can style that pairs with Aidan Hutchinson. He is 20 years old. He owns exceptional football character. He was a team captain and a culture builder by reputation. Production has not matched traits yet. Auburn used him as an end in a three man front last season, not a four man front. That put him in the b gap and exposed him to extra blockers from guards and tackles. His get-off is not twitchy, but he showed late-season growth shedding outside blocks and finishing. He has workable pass rush moves. Athletically, he compares favorably to Levi Onwuzurike. If the Lions go defense at 17 and skip offensive tackle, Falk is the pick on this pre-combine board. He sits as No. 22 overall here, so it would be a slight reach. The combine could tighten that gap. Tackles on the board: Monroe Fraley, Blake Miller Georgia offensive tackle Monroe Fraley surged after Jeremiah's praise. He is a left tackle who has played some right tackle. He is long and balanced. His pass protection improved over the season. He stays square with shoulders, hips, and feet aligned to the rusher. That trait shows up in elite NFL tackles. Fraley's run blocking needs cleaner technique. He lunges more than he attacks at times. Still, the pass pro floor and size profile fit what the Detroit Lions value. Right tackle Blake Miller, from Jackson, is gaining momentum as the combine nears. His name rose alongside Fraley in recent conversations. If Detroit prioritizes tackle at 17, both belong in the discussion. TJ Parker's surge and Hatten Proctor's case Clemson edge TJ Parker used the Senior Bowl to recharge his stock. He looked more like the early-season version of himself and answered some questions. He slots into the edge mix behind Falk as a viable play at 17 if the board breaks right. Alabama's Hatten Proctor continues to land in mocks for Detroit. He remains a frequent projection even if the preference leans elsewhere. The buzz is steady enough that he cannot be ignored at 17. This is the pre-combine snapshot. Testing, medicals, and interviews in Indianapolis will move names up and down. For now, those are the five most likely paths for the Detroit Lions at pick number 17. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #picknumber17 #nflcombine #keldricfaulk #monroefreeling #blakemiller #tjparker #kadynproctor Learn more about your ad choices. In the second hour of Nuanez Now, Colter Nuanez sits down with Chris Cobb, assistant head coach of the Montana Grizzlies men's basketball, to break down the season so far and what it will take to make a strong push down the stretch. Cobb shares insight into the team's growth, key contributors, adjustments on both ends of the floor, and the mindset the Griz need as they gear up for the final stretch of the regular season.Later in the hour, Colter catches up with Doug Fraley, head coach of Montana track & field and cross country, to discuss an incredibly successful indoor season. The Grizzlies have already set 10 new program records the most in a single season in school history and Fraley breaks down the performances fueling the surge and what it means heading into championship season.
The Detroit Lions filled a key staff spot today. Steve Oliver moves from assistant offensive line coach to tight ends coach. The Detroit Lions Podcast breaks down what it means ahead of the NFL Combine at month's end. Steve Oliver to Tight Ends Coach The Lions stayed in house. Oliver earns the promotion after five seasons in Detroit, heading into a sixth. He played at the University of San Diego. Inside Allen Park, he is known for hands-on work with the tackles. That includes Penei Sewell, Giovanni Manu, and Colby Sorsdal when Sorsdal repped at tackle. Continuity matters for this offense. Oliver knows the room. He knows Hank Fraley and the standards on that line. The move keeps the language and teaching aligned for a position group that touches the run game and pass protection on every snap. Assistant OL Opening and Dan Skipper Buzz One vacancy remains: assistant offensive line coach. Dan Skipper is the name to watch. He coached tight ends and offensive line at the Shrine Bowl the day after retiring from the Lions. He knows the scheme and knows Fraley well. That fit tracks with how Detroit builds staff. The goal is a full staff in place before the combine at the end of the month. Programming note from today's update: there will be a daily show on Saturday, no show on Super Bowl Sunday, and then back on Monday. Stafford's MVP and the Detroit Lens Matthew Stafford won MVP in a very close vote. One ballot for Justin Herbert factored into the margin. At 37, Stafford is the oldest first-time MVP. The award strengthens an already robust career case. Detroit fans remain split on Stafford's legacy. Some still celebrate him. Others have moved on. Today's tone was simple: appreciate the validation and the years of production. His moment on the NFL stage, with family in view, underscored the journey. None of it changes where the Lions are now, but it reframes what he did then. Penei Sewell Misses Protector of the Year The NFL rolled out its inaugural Protector of the Year. Penei Sewell was a finalist. He did not win. The award went to a Bear, a result that stung given Sewell's dominance. By most views, he is the best run-blocking right tackle in football, and arguably the best run-blocking offensive lineman overall. Pass protection tilted the vote. There are tackles a tick better in pure pass pro, and that likely cost him. Sewell is steady about it. Use it as fuel or not, the standard remains high. Elsewhere, former Lions head coach Jim Schwartz resigned as the Browns defensive coordinator today. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #steveoliver #tightendscoach #assistantoffensivelinecoach #hankfraley #danskipper #shrinebowl #peneisewell #giovannimanu #colbysorsdal #matthewstafford #nflmvp #sammonson #justinherbert #protectoroftheyear #jimschwartz Learn more about your ad choices. Detroit Lions Podcast: Dan Campbell's F, OC Reset Campbell's Grade and What Comes Next Dan Campbell graded himself with an F. The Detroit Lions missed the NFL postseason. His end-of-year session landed early and it stung. He was blunt about accountability. He is the decision maker. The Detroit Lions Podcast drilled into what that means for the staff and the offense. Campbell would not detail what he wants to move away from. "I don't want to get into that right now," he said. He added that he needs a few days to think and "deep dive some areas" before making decisions. That restraint matters after a frustrating finish. Midseason Play Calling, Game Management, and Risk Campbell took over offensive play calling midseason. That is a different world than starting a season as the play caller. Delegation structures and weekly prep rhythms change. The offense often looked more coherent after the switch. The plans made more sense. Not always, but often. Some choices still need a governor. There were moments to take points. There were moments to dial back the impulse for gadget plays. One example loomed large: a trick look with David Montgomery trying to throw to Jared Goff on third and short in a must-win spot. The line between aggression and recklessness is thin. Closing that gap is part of the offseason brief. Staff Decisions, OC Path, and Line Lessons One conclusion was clear: bringing John Morton back as offensive coordinator cannot happen. If there is a way to soften that blow, a reassignment to tight ends was floated, but he is now at Iowa State after a one-and-done. Either way, the OC chair must be reset. Internal promotions seem unlikely. The staff did not make an in-season adjustment with Hank Fraley, Scottie Montgomery, Mark Brunell, or David Shaw to lighten Campbell's duties. If that was the plan, it would have happened to stabilize the offense and the sideline. The dual role of head coach and in-game play caller proved untenable over time. That reality fueled Campbell's harsh self-grade. The run game also drew scrutiny. Fraley remains a strong offensive line coach. As run game coordinator, though, this was not his best year. Too many assignments demanded blocks certain players could not physically execute. That is a coordination issue as much as a player issue. Some of that traces back to Morton. Some of it sits with the broader design. None of it means rash firings. It does mean recalibration. Campbell referenced lessons tied to Frank Ragnow and how they apply to Taylor Decker. Details were not disclosed, but the implication was thoughtful evaluation, not snap judgments. Decker is expected to speak with Brad Holmes soon. The message across Allen Park is consistent: think it through, fix the structure, and return with a cleaner plan for the next NFL season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kly7GrUmERU #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #dancampbell #nflpostseason #offensiveplaycalling #johnmorton #offensivecoordinatorsearch #hankfraley #scottiemontgomery #markbrunell #davidmontgomerytrickplay #jaredgoff #rungamecoordination #taylordecker #frankragnow #bradholmes Learn more about your ad choices. Hunters and anglers across the country may never set foot on Alaska's Dalton Highway—but what's unfolding there affects every American who cares about public land. In this episode, Hal Herring sits down with fisheries ecologist and writer Dr. Kevin Fraley to unpack a sweeping threat to some of the most accessible caribou and fishing country in the entire state. A new push in Congress aims to throw out the Central Yukon Resource Management Plan—a plan built over a decade with input from hunters, anglers and local stakeholders—and potentially reopen millions of acres around the Dalton to industrial leasing, restricted access and the kind of locked-up landscapes already seen on the North Slope. Fraley brings deep on-the-ground knowledge of the Brooks Range, the Dalton corridor and the fish and wildlife that depend on it, explaining in clear terms what's at stake and why this unprecedented use of the Congressional Review Act matters for anyone who values public access, wild fish and fair-chase hunting. Whether you've dreamed of a DIY caribou hunt, care about responsible management of America's lands or just want to understand the real story behind a fast-moving political fight, this episode lays out exactly why this moment demands attention.

Prison And The State Police, Bomb Squad In Arizona, Special Episode. When retired Arizona State Trooper Ken Emerson looks back on his career, few memories stand out more vividly than the prison hostage crisis that shook the state, and the nation. Emerson, who served on the Arizona Department of Public Safety Bomb Squad and the door-entry SWAT team, found himself on scene during the longest prison hostage crisis in U.S. history. Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. “It was unlike anything I'd ever experienced,” Emerson recalls in a special episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast. “We were trained for chaos, but nothing prepares you for a standoff that lasts fifteen days.” This special episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast is available for free on their website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and many other podcast platforms. The Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis hostage crisis unfolded in January 2004, when two inmates took control of a prison tower and held Correctional Officer Lois Fraley hostage. For fifteen harrowing days, law enforcement, negotiators, and tactical units worked tirelessly to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution. Look for supporting articles about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . From Military to Bomb Squad: A Natural Transition For Emerson, police work was a natural evolution after his military service. “Police work was the perfect transition for me after leaving the military,” he explains. “The structure, the mission, and the sense of purpose were all there. But on the Bomb Squad, you add a new layer of danger and precision.” Prison And The State Police, Bomb Squad In Arizona, Special Episode. As part of one of the busiest bomb squads in the country, Emerson and his team were on call around the clock, responding to suspicious packages, explosive devices, and hazardous materials. “We were constantly moving,” he says. “From dignitary protection details to potential IED threats, there was never a dull moment.” Inside the Life of a Bomb Squad Technician The Bomb Squad, officially known as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) or Hazardous Devices Unit, is often portrayed in movies as high-octane and glamorous. But Emerson says Hollywood gets most of it wrong. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. “Movies make it look like we're cutting red and blue wires under pressure every day,” he laughs. “In reality, it's a lot more technical. There's a ton of planning, teamwork, and calm decision-making involved.” Bomb technicians rely on an arsenal of tools and technology, bomb suits, remote-controlled robots, portable X-ray machines, and containment vessels all designed to protect life and minimize risk. “Our mission is simple,” Emerson says. “Make sure everyone goes home alive at the end of the day.” Prison And The State Police, Bomb Squad In Arizona, Special Episode. The Arizona Prison Hostage Crisis On January 18, 2004, chaos erupted at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis in Buckeye when two inmates overpowered guards and seized a watchtower. Inside, they held Correctional Officer Lois Fraley and Officer Jason Auch hostage at gunpoint. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. For fifteen days, the crisis gripped national headlines. Emerson and his team were called to the scene as part of the tactical response. “Our primary concern was the safety of everyone, the hostages, the officers, and even the inmates,” Emerson remembers. “Every move we made was calculated. We were dealing with explosives, firearms, and an unpredictable situation.” During the ordeal, Fraley endured unimaginable terror. “I said goodbye to everybody,” she told ABC News after her release. “I never thought I was going to make it out alive.” Miraculously, after two weeks of negotiations, the inmates surrendered. Fraley was safely rescued, ending what would become the longest-running prison hostage situation in U.S. history. The full podcast episode is streaming now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Lessons from the Crisis For Emerson, the experience reinforced the importance of preparation, patience, and teamwork in law enforcement. “When you're on scene at something like that, you realize just how interconnected every agency is, corrections, state police, SWAT, negotiators, everyone,” he says. “It's all about trust.” Prison And The State Police, Bomb Squad In Arizona, Special Episode. He also emphasizes the emotional toll that such events take on officers. “People don't see the aftermath, the sleepless nights, the what-ifs,” Emerson reflects. “You carry those images and moments with you forever.” Beyond the Badge Today, Ken Emerson channels his passion into helping law enforcement agencies recruit the best possible candidates, especially military veterans transitioning to civilian life. “Veterans bring discipline, leadership, and courage,” he says. “But they also need guidance and purpose after service. Law enforcement can offer that, if we do it right.” You can find the show on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn, as well as read companion articles and updates on Medium, Blogspot, YouTube, and even IMDB. Through his appearances on podcasts and social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X, Emerson hopes to shine a light on the realities of police work and inspire the next generation of officers. “This job isn't about heroics,” he insists. “It's about service, to your community, your partners, and your country.” Listen to the Full Story: Hear Ken Emerson's powerful firsthand account streaming for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, also available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major podcast platforms. In this cask-strength conversation with spirits judge, educator, and master blender Nancy Fraley, some of the topics we discuss include: Nancy's journey to spirits blending, from Harvard Divinity School, to maritime law, to her apprenticeship under the legendary brandy maker Germain Robin. The story of the first Cigar Blend Bourbon (developed, of course, by Nancy) and how she weaves together factors like fermentation style, maturation humidity, cask finishes, and more to achieve the elusive flavor note known as rancio. A crash course in blending theory, which draws on architectural and corporeal metaphors to describe how to build flavor profiles in barrel-aged spirits Why the terms “master distiller” and “master blender” have become watered down in recent decades, which underscores the importance of humble practice day after day, year after year, in the pursuit of world-class distillates. We also explore the tension between the intellect and the instinct in spirits blending, using Nancy's experiences to illustrate how and when to let the wisdom of the body triumph over the chaos of “monkey mind” and the dance of contingency. Along the way, we divulge the connection between French brandy and rotting pheasant, trace the story of an all-but-forgotten yeast strain, share how you can sign up to taste some of the rankest, most flawed distillates in Nancy's “Nosing for Faults” class, And much, much more. This episode was made possible with editing and sound design by Samantha Reed, whiskey blending insights and some delicious pours brought to you by Nancy Fraley, and support from The American Distilling Institute.
