Host Jeremy C. Park interviews Jerry Rosa, Operations Director for Nashville Diaper Connection, who discusses the organization's efforts and mission "to connect families with diapers because every baby deserves a healthy start." Jerry explains how Nashville Diaper Connection began in 2013 when founder Doug Adair identified diaper need as a critical unmet community requirement, growing from distributing 18,000 diapers in a garage to now providing 4.5 million diapers annually across 28 counties, serving approximately 7,000 babies monthly. The organization operates through three main programs: community partnerships with 50 organizations, health connections providing diapers as incentives for medical visits, and Diapers for Diploma offering 200 diapers monthly to 25 campus students. Jerry shares personal stories from deliveries demonstrating the significant impact of their work, including a scene where families waited over an hour for diaper distribution. The organization's core values focus on dignity, equity, and strong community partnerships, with volunteers contributing 9,000 hours annually to help package diapers for distribution. Nashville Diaper Connection Initiatives - Jerry provides information about Nashville Diaper Connection, including contact details (info@nashvillediaperconnection.org and nashvillediaperconnection.org) and current initiatives like the World's Largest Diaper Drive and a potential "Putts for Butts" putting competition in June. He mentions their potty training initiative aimed at reducing diaper costs for families, particularly those needing daycare services, as well. To support families during the holiday season, State Representative Ryan Spain is spearheading his annual Holiday Diaper Drive. Spain emphasizes the critical need for diapers, wipes, and diaper cream, items not covered by programs like WIC and SNAP. With nearly half of U.S. families struggling to afford diapers, the drive aims to alleviate some pressure from local food pantries, which often face shortages of these essential items. Community members can contribute to the drive by delivering donations to Spain's Peoria office or sending items through an Amazon wish list until December 11. This initiative provides much-needed relief to families, ensuring they too can enjoy the holiday cheer. Donations may be delivered in person or shipped directly to Rep. Spain's Peoria office. Donations may also be made using the Amazon wish list. www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2VE8NAZEOWJR7?ref_=wl_share.

Several organizations are organizing a statewide diaper drive to help families in Virginia that are struggling to buy diapers. Diaper banks, maternal health hubs, and diaper pantries across the state are combining on the effort in recognition of Diaper Need Awareness Week Sept. 23-29. A healthy change of diapers costs nearly 0 per month, or as much as six percent of a full-time minimum wage worker's salary. One in two Virginia mothers struggle to provide diapers for their babies, according to the Virginia Diaper Bank Network, and a lack of diapers can lead to health problems for infants and toddlers....Article LinkSupport the Show.

Chris Beach from the Father Foundation of Virginia joins Jeff to talk about this weekend's Diaper Drive for Dads!
If you've ever lost a child, you know the unimaginable pain and heartbreak that's hard to put into words. Drew Mariani visits with Elizabeth Simutis, who shares her heart-wrenching journey of healing after the stillbirth of her son, Edward Thomas Simutis. Twenty years ago, Elizabeth and her husband faced every parent's worst nightmare: the loss of their child, Edward, before he could take his first breath. Out of this profound sorrow emerged a mission of love—Ted's Diaper Drive. Elizabeth's initiative to collect diapers in memory of Edward and other babies lost too soon serves as a poignant reminder of the lives they were meant to live. This act of kindness has evolved into a movement, offering comfort to grieving families and encouraging open dialogue about loss, healing, and hope. Elizabeth's journey from despair to advocacy highlights the strength found in faith and the healing power of action. She emphasizes the importance of acknowledging the life and loss of unborn and stillborn children, advocating for a societal shift towards embracing and supporting families through their grief. Through her journey, including guidance from priests and the solace of the Eucharist, Elizabeth discovered the transformative power of giving back, turning her personal tragedy into a source of hope for others. The conversation also touches on the broader context of loss, including the pain experienced by women who have undergone abortions, echoing the universal need for compassion, understanding, and forgiveness. If you've also encountered this grief, you're encouraged to find your own path to healing, whether through creating, sharing, or simply being present to one another's pain. Elizabeth's message is clear: love and life are gifts to be cherished, honored, and remembered, no matter how brief their presence. Ted's Diaper Drive continues to be a testament to the enduring bond between a mother and her child, a symbol of hope that guides others through their darkest times towards a future where every life, no matter how small, is celebrated and mourned with dignity and love. It's a call to all of us to embrace our losses, support one another, and find meaningful ways to honor the lives that have touched ours, however briefly.
