Host Radell Lewis breaks down Ohio's 2026 State Auditor race between Republican Frank LaRose, Democrat Annette Blackwell, and Libertarian write-in Aidan Jeffery, then runs through a wild week of Ohio political news on Purple Political Breakdown. This episode covers why the Auditor's office matters (hint: it's the only statewide office with the power to catch public officials misusing your tax dollars), how current Auditor Keith Faber's run for Attorney General is part of what reporters are calling a "musical chairs" pattern among term-limited Ohio Republicans, and whether LaRose's Secretary of State record (including the 2023 Issue 1 reversal, a Hatch Act complaint, and 1,200 alleged voter fraud cases referred to the DOJ in late 2025) matches the job description of Ohio's chief accountability officer. On the other side of the aisle, Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell pitches 16 years of accounting experience and a documented fiscal turnaround that won the Auditor's own Clean Audit Award three years running. In the news roundup: Ohio quietly adds "Trump Wildlife Area" as an official name through administrative rule, podcaster Myron Gaines performs a Sieg Heil salute on the steps of Ohio University's Memorial Auditorium in the first real test of Senate Bill 1, Columbus restaurant La Chatelaine cancels a Casey Putsch fundraiser over his comments about Hitler and Nazis, Governor Mike DeWine honors his late father's role liberating Dachau, a 2019 Bexley police report resurfaces on Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton, Signal Ohio reporter Jake Zuckerman exposes Ohio nursing homes dumping medically fragile patients at homeless shelters, and a DraftKings-linked super PAC places over $1.1 million in ads backing Ohio Republican legislative primary candidates. The best story of the weekend occurred at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia as President Trump decided to stay two matches longer than planned to see "the big guy" shock with world in one of the biggest upsets ever. The wrestler, Wyatt Hendrickson, is a Kansan in the Air Force wrestling for Oklahoma State and he and Trump seem to have quite a bond. You have to hear this story. Some are calling this the worst NCAA Tourney of all time as there are no Cinderellas an no buzzer beaters. That means all the attention is about the coaches and we've got three very different coaches stories for you. We lost the great Bob Davis on Friday, one week after his wife died. This is more than a story about a legendary broadcaster as we remember Davis for all he was. Tiger Woods says "love is in the air" as he announces he's officially with Vanessa Trump, Don Jr's ex. If you think Tiger has quite the dating history, wait until you hear about Vanessa's bingo card. It's just incredible. Bill Maher blasts Dems for getting simple things wrong, the mayor of Liberty, Missouri plays the KKK card on his opponent and Independence no longer has a single outdoor swimming pool.

It's News Day Tuesday! Sam breaks down the biggest headlines out of the long weekend and discuss all the big moments from Trump's inauguration. First, he runs through updates on Trump's expansive list of Day 1 executive orders hitting on seemingly everything from environmental and public health deregulation to major anti-immigrant and anti-trans federal actions, the passage of the Lincoln Riley Act, the confirmation of Marco Rubio, Biden's final actions, and Israel's continuing murder sprees in Gaza despite a supposed ceasefire, before parsing a little deeper through the exemplary performance of American fascism on display at the inauguration, and watching some distinct parallels between Elon Musk's heil and those of the Nazi regime. After expanding on Trump's inaugural speech and his economic and political agendas of personal and oligarchical enrichment, before walking a little deeper through some of the more harrowing executive orders issued by Trump during his first day in office, including removing the recognition of trans people from any federal program, drastically deregulating the fossil fuel industry, a full commitment to the death penalty, the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency, and an attempt to engage in mass deportations, criminalize of the undocumented status, and end birthright citizenship. And in the Fun Half: Sam unpacks Fox's coverage of Trump's January 6th pardons, parses through Trump's real-estate-first perspective on Gaza, and tackles Tim Pool's take on the TikTok turmoil. The DNC denounces fundraising from “bad” billionaires, Blake from Ohio explores the future of the fight for labor and democracy, and Rose from DC brings up the role of progressive media and organizing moving forward, plus, your calls and IMs!
