This one is special. Wem and I got to sit down with Dr Wendy Russell, independent play researcher, senior research fellow at the University of Gloucestershire, and 50 years into a career that started on an adventure playground apprenticeship in the 1970s. I came away from this conversation needing to go for a long walk and think about everything. The first half covers Wendy's work on spatial justice for children, the politics of public space, and what it would actually mean to have a statutory play sufficiency duty in England. We talk about what play sufficiency means in practice, why Wales has led the way, and why politicians keep defaulting to playgrounds when the picture is so much bigger than that. The second half goes deeper, into the relational capability approach to playing and being well that Wendy has developed with Mike Barkley and Ben Tawil of Ludicology. Drawing on Henri Lefebvre's production of space, Karen Barad's concept of intra-action, and the relational turn across academic disciplines, Wendy patiently walked Wem and me through a genuinely paradigm-shifting way of thinking about children, play, agency and wellbeing.By the end, the playwork principles themselves come under scrutiny. The idea of play as "freely chosen and personally directed" gets unpicked in a way that I'm still sitting with.Strap in. Press rewind as many times as you need. See you on the other side.In this episodeHow Wendy moved from adventure playground apprentice to academic researcher across 50 years in play and playworkThe politics of space and what spatial justice for children actually meansWhy falling road casualty statistics for children hide a much more troubling storyPlay sufficiency as a principle, what it is, what Wales has done with it, and why England feels like it's at a genuine policy moment right nowThe tension between play's intrinsic value and what funders and politicians actually want to measureWhy post-occupancy evaluation of housing developments almost never happens, and what Diana Bournat's research tells us when it doesHow repositioning a ball games area changes the way girls move across an entire spaceThe relational capability approach to playing and being well, resources, opportunities, and the conditions that allow children to playThe relational turn across academic disciplines and what it means to move away from the individual, atomised childKaren Barad's concept of intra-action and why "interaction" doesn't quite capture itWhat all of this means for forest school practice, the wind, the branch, the ants, and usFollowing an object across a play session as a practitioner reflective tool (I am absolutely trying this)Why "freely chosen and personally directed" is a useful definition and also, it turns out, a deeply adult-centric oneLinks and resourcesWendy Russell's publications, University of Gloucestershire research repository (search "Wendy Russell Gloucestershire") or via her LinkedIn profile [add link]Playing and Being Well, the Play Wales commissioned research review: playwales.org.ukPlay Wales: playwales.org.ukPlay England: playengland.org.ukLudicology, Mike Barkley and Ben Tawil: ludicology.comUNCRC General Comment 17 on Article 31, children's right to playHenri Lefebvre, The Production of SpaceKaren Barad, concept of intra-actionTim Gill, children's independent mobility and road space design: timgill.netComing up at Children of the ForestPedagogy Immersion Weekend, 15 and 16 August 2026, Devon. It looks at human beings as if they arrived in this world like a bunch of birds on the branches of a barren tree. They just got settled there, they don't belong, a sense of being strangers and pilgrims from another domain altogether. In this deeply moving and expansive conversation, I sit down with wellness advisor, fitness and nutrition expert, and co-creator of Shakeology, Isabelle Daikeler.Isabelle shares her extraordinary journey through what she beautifully calls the “boulders” of her life—moments that forced her to slow down, surrender, and ultimately reconnect with a deeper intelligence within. From a devastating car accident in her early twenties, to a mysterious illness, to a decade of chronic pain after the birth of her son, her story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit—and the wisdom of the body. What stood out most for me in this conversation is the simplicity of what she teaches. In a world that constantly pushes us to do more, Isabelle brings us back to something so beautifully basic: one breath. We explore:Why slowing down is essential for healing and spiritual awakeningThe difference between reacting and responding—and how one breath creates that spaceThe body's innate intelligence and the role of somatic release in healingWhat true surrender actually looks like (and why it's not something you have to force)A refreshing and grounded definition of authenticity: telling the truthThis conversation affirmed something I've been feeling deeply lately—that we don't need more complexity. We don't need to strive harder. What we truly need is the willingness to be present, to feel, and to trust. If you take anything from this episode, let it be this: You don't need hours of practice, special tools, or the perfect environment. You can begin right here, right now… with a single, intentional breath. As always, I'd love to hear what resonated with you. And if this conversation speaks to your heart, please share it with someone who might need it. About Isabelle DaikelerIsabelle Daikeler is a wellness advisor, fitness and nutrition expert, and co-creator of Shakeology and several BODi programs, known for helping people reduce stress and live more authentically through a grounded blend of mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and spiritual well-being. What Nobody Told You About Money in School (And Why That Has to Change) with Dr. Paris Woods | 102Dr. Paris Woods is back on the Extreme Personal Finance Show, and this time she's bringing the playbook she wrote specifically for the next generation. Her new book, "The Student's Guide to Financial Freedom," released in March 2026 and is already turning heads in schools, nonprofits, and the FIRE community. In this episode, Chris and Dr. Woods get real about why $1.7 trillion in student loan debt doesn't have to be the default, how schools that meet 100% of demonstrated financial need are hiding in plain sight, and why "retirement" is the worst word you can use when talking to a teenager about investing. They also dig into the Freedom Fund concept as a more compelling alternative to traditional retirement framing, the Make, Manage, Multiply framework from the book, what first-gen college students face when they're supporting family back home while trying to build wealth, and how LinkedIn, networking, and proximity can do more for a young person's career than almost anything else.Plus, a conversation about Mr. Beast entering the financial services space, why crowding out bad financial information matters, and what one single habit Dr. Woods hopes every reader takes away and actually keeps. In this episode:Is student loan debt actually unavoidable?Schools that meet 100% of financial need (and why no one talks about them)The Make, Manage, Multiply framework explainedWhy "retirement" doesn't land with Gen Z and what to say insteadThe Freedom Fund conceptFirst-gen students, family financial pressure, and learning to say noThe dollar game from the Bitches Get Riches podcastCollege ROI and what universities won't tell you about job placementLinkedIn as a wealth-building tool, even in high schoolMr. Beast and the financial services spaceThe first financial habit every student should buildContact Chris:https://heavymetal.moneyhttps://www.instagram.com/heavy_metal_money/https://www.youtube.com/@heavymetalmoneyhttps://www.facebook.com/chrislugeremail: chris at heavymetal.moneyConnect with Dr. Paris WoodsContact Chris:https://heavymetal.moneyhttps://www.instagram.com/heavy_metal_money/https://www.youtube.com/@heavymetalmoneyhttps://www.facebook.com/chrislugeremail: chris at heavymetal.money

In this heart-opening episode of the Money Lighthouse Podcast for Spiritual Entrepreneurs, Michel Ai Reavis invites listeners into a gentle yet powerful reframe: what if technology isn't something to resist—but something that's here to support, hold, and even amplify your sacred work? Through a compassionate and grounded lens, she explores how many spiritual entrepreneurs have unknowingly formed strained relationships with digital tools—and how healing that relationship can unlock more ease, clarity, and flow in their business.Listeners are guided through a new way of seeing technology as a neutral, energetic container—one that can hold intention, deliver care, and create structure that supports both the entrepreneur and their clients. With relatable examples and soothing encouragement, Michel shares how simple systems—like automated emails, booking links, and organized content hubs—can become extensions of your presence, allowing your energy and wisdom to continue working even when you're resting. This episode also goes deeper, exploring how our resistance to tech often mirrors deeper themes around trust, support, and receiving. As Michel gently reminds us, spiritual entrepreneurs are not meant to carry everything alone. Technology, when approached with intention and softness, can become a sacred ally—freeing up time, regulating the nervous system, and creating a business that truly feels like a sanctuary. This episode is both a mindset shift and a loving invitation into a more supported way of building your soul-led business. ✨Topics CoveredReframing technology as a spiritual ally rather than a burdenWhy many spiritual entrepreneurs struggle with tech (and it's not what you think)Viewing digital tools as energetic containers for your intention and carePractical examples of simple systems that create ease and flowHow tech can support nervous system regulation in your businessThe role of automation in holding and delivering your energyAddressing fears around losing authenticity when using tech or AIHow small inefficiencies quietly drain time, energy, and creative spaceThe connection between tech resistance and trust, control, and receiving supportCreating a peaceful, supportive digital business ecosystemIf you've ever felt overwhelmed, resistant, or quietly intimidated by the tech side of your business… this episode will feel like a deep exhale. The Silent Echoes of Mars: A Journey Through Time and SpaceThe story explores the themes of civilization, legacy, and the reasons behind the decline of great empires, emphasizing the importance of understanding history beyond superficial explanations. In the vast expanse of the cosmos, Mars stands as a silent witness to the passage of time. The story of the fourth expedition to Mars, as narrated in "And the Moon Be Still as Bright," unfolds a tale of discovery, loss, and reflection. As the crew lands on the red planet, they are greeted not by Martians, but by the echoes of a civilization long gone, wiped out by an Earthly disease. The Journey Begins: The expedition's journey is marked by the thrill of exploration and the sobering reality of their predecessors' fate. As they step onto Martian soil, the crew is enveloped by the cold, intoxicating air, a stark reminder of the planet's desolate beauty. The city they encounter is a testament to the Martians' architectural prowess, yet it stands empty, a ghostly relic of a once-thriving society.A Tragic Revelation: The crew's discovery of the Martians' demise due to chickenpox—a disease trivial to humans but deadly to Martians—serves as a poignant reminder of the unintended consequences of exploration. The narrative delves into the philosophical musings of Spender, a crew member who grapples with the moral implications of their presence on Mars. His internal conflict highlights the broader theme of humanity's impact on the universe.A Reflection on Humanity: As the story unfolds, the crew's actions mirror the historical patterns of colonization and cultural erasure. Spender's struggle with his crewmates' disregard for Martian heritage echoes the sentiments of indigenous peoples on Earth. His ultimate decision to stand against his own kind underscores the tension between progress and preservation."And the Moon Be Still as Bright" is more than a tale of space exploration; it is a reflection on humanity's place in the universe. As we reach for the stars, we must also look inward, acknowledging the footprints we leave behind. The story invites us to ponder the legacy we wish to create, both on Earth and beyond.Subscribe Now: Join us on this journey through time and space.
